there she was in a guest room, to the king of another world. My guide Zefan showed me to my room, after meeting the king.
This was quite a weird dream if it was just a dream. But she highly doubted that all this was all made up. The sights and the smells were way too vivid to be a dream or made up.
Heck, now that she thought about it properly she was about to die before she was summoned to this world... Wait maybe she didn't get lucky. Maybe she died due to that truck and this was all fake.
"No, this is way too real for anything my mind could make up. If there were any gods in her world, then this could be a paradise for me." She said talking to herself trying to rationalize the events of today. "No, that would be arrogant of me to assume."
She laid down on the orange sofa or couch it felt nice and soft, as well as smooth.
"Well, it doesn't matter at this point, I might as well read my help menu." She spoke to herself.
Bleep!
The same menu as before opened before her eyes once again.
The most interesting thing that drew her eyes was the entry about the dragon hourglass. they had another purpose to them aside from showing when the waves would occur. They also allowed for any hero that is registered with them to teleport to the wave location, in addition to any people that are party with the hero.
That would be useful for later, she could already imagine bringing people with her.
A couple of hours passed as she continued to read through the menu. Her reading time was interrupted by a knock on the door, and the sound of said door creaking open.
"Lady hero, the banquet is ready for you. I also have a message for you. It would appear that the two companions that you arrived with needed to attend to other matters at the moment." The servant said as she bowed "If you kindly would follow me to the dining hall."
..
..
The Severent that was in front of her arrived in front of another intricately designed door, with ridges and groves that spiraled and twirled, dancing over the door.
As the Severent approached the door, he would proceed to knock and then wait for the door to open.
When the door opened she could hear all kinds of conversations, as well as an aroma of a variety of smells.
When she entered the dining room, she saw a long finely made wooden table, with fancy and decor to adorn the table. The room itself was adorned with animal pets hung and strewn across the wall.
before she could further study the room, the sounds of talking and chatting died down as she approached the table, with a notable and familiar figure approaching her.
"Ahh, lady Hiyori it's an honor that you graced us with your presence, I'm truly sorry about your companions having to leave," Alfalin spoke with concern and grace, as he put his hand on her shoulder.
She looked down on the ground nodding her head, with her entire body filling with a tense sensation. "Thank you for the kind words," I spoke while picking up her head. "As, much as I wanted them to stay, I could understand why they left."
Alfalin lifted his hand from her shoulder "Why you are wise for your years. Truely you are." he spoke with grace and reassurance. "Though word of advice from me to you, when the time comes and you are strong I'd advise heading to the lodges in the Strum Nations to the south of the continent. Although you didn't hear that from me." He said as he gave a hearty chuckle at the end.
"So, if I may ask what's the deal going on with the lodge and Feyojerin? It seems from my observation that it both acts as an independent organization, but still obeys your rule?" I asked with intrigue, tilting her head up towards the roof, while she placed a finger underneath her chin.
"Yes, that old iron walker," Alfalin said with a low hum.
He pulled out a chair from the table "Here you go lady Hiyori." He said with a smile on his face.
she took the seat and sat down, with the king about to sit next to her, until I looked around the room and saw the people looking at the two.
"It seems that I forgot to give you a proper introduction, forgive it will merely take a moment," Alfalin said as he stood tall and proud.
"My people of the court, I would like to cordially welcome Hiyori Miyazaki the holy boomerang hero, savior of the world, and, to our great country of Feyojerin." Alfalin said as he made a grand gesture, "To give her a warm welcome properly I am holding this feast as a celebration of a new and better future for us all." He said as he threw his arms outwards.
After that display, the people erupted in cheer, as the music began to play, with food beginning to enter the hallway.
He would begin to sit down. "Well then, I was saying," he said as he stroked his beard.
"You were talking about the Lodge, your Majesty," I spoke softly while rubbing the finely made table.
"That rights, the lodge, but you may call me Alfalin no need for the formalities while it's just me and you." He said as his hazel eyes softened, with his smile.
"If you say so Alfalin," I smiled back.
"The Hunters Lodge and the kingdom have a complicated history, that goes far back as its founding. While the lodge is pretty much independent it still has to obey the rules and laws, while it's in the country. I can assume the same applies for countries that the lodge is present in," he said as he let the server place down his plate, and what looked like some meat, with a creamy kind of soup, as well as some bread.
"Hmm I guess that makes sense, medieval banks worked on similar principles," I thought, while she broke apart the bread and ate it. The bread was nice and warm like it was freshly baked, the outside had a crunchy texture, and the taste was sublime.
"All though the kingdom treats the lodge as a sovereign organization, the monarchy has sponsored it, and used it as a way to quail the monster population in the kingdom, they used the funds and expanded their influence in other nations," he said as a began to eat his meal.
"How many nations does the Hunters Lodge operate in?" I asked curiously, with one of her eyebrows raising slightly.
"If my information is up to date, then roughly 11 countries, although they're most prominent in our vassal states." He said calmly as moved his finger, like he was drawing on the table. "But that's beside the point, as much as I don't like sending kids to die, you or we don't have much of a choice," Alfalin said as he looked at her with pity in her eyes.
"Wait, I'm not a kid I am 16 years old." I exclaimed while pointing her thumb towards herself.
He gave out a little chuckle, "Whatever you say, kid." Alfalin said as he gave small chuckles before he spoke again, "Besides even if you were, it's not like we're going to let some kid go off into the arid wildlands, tomorrow I'll provide you the castle's best Magic tutors, and trainers, as well as some funds when you go into town."
"Hey, if I may ask how does throwing magic work? My two companions mention that the city's Coolers use throwing magic." I said remembering the magic being mentioned while she was walking up toward the castle.
he sat there, while he took a sip of the soup, "While I'm not the best of explainers, I can show you the basics of it if you wish to learn?" he said as cleaned the soup that was on the side off his lips with a silk cloth.
Hiyori sat there registering what Alfalin said, and then the edges of her lips curled up, and her eyes began to glow with excitement. "Iwouldlovetoo!" I said in a high-pitched squeal.
"Very well then, lady Hiyori if you would kindly follow me," He said as he got up from his chair then helped her up from her's
..
..
Both she and Alfalin left the dining hall, walking down the same corridors that she walked when she entered the castle. Expect they were different this time, instead of the welcoming chill that was on her skin, it was replaced with soothing and comforting warmth, the hallways were light not with the sun, but with a mystifying glow from insects in glass jars, similar to when she would go out firefly catching when she was at her grandparents house out in the countryside.
"Hey, Alfalin what are those bugs inside those jars?" I asked pointing at the jars curiously.
"Oh those little things they're called Shimmer bugs, the name speaks for itself." he said as while he smiled
"You know we have something similar in my world. they're called fireflies and the scenery was so beautiful when you got to see thousands of them flying in a field," Hiyori said as she began to reminisce.
"Huh looks like people, no matter the world will come up with simple names," Alfalin said as he walked the halls, which led to a small wooden door, filled with engraving that gave off a faint light.
Alfalin would push the door open, walk through, and greet the soldiers guarding the door and I would follow suit, that's where I saw a large open garden, illuminated by small flowers that looked like blue irises that gave the garden an ethereal feel.
"All right, so you wanted to see Throwing Magic right?" Alfalin asked as he looked at her.
"Yep, that's what asked for, but more like how it works," I said while getting excited to see how it worked.
"All right then," Alfalin said as he took a neutral stance standing straight. "So from my understanding, throwing magic isn't exactly as the name says. While yes you can use magic without needing to throw something. as you can see," he said as he interlocked his fingers resting them below his stomach, before taking a deep breath, in one motion he untwined his fingers, then raised one hand above his head before rapidly flinging it in front of him.
then vermillion-colored energy quickly pooled in front of his hand before shooting from his hand transforming into a bright flame and then dissipating immediately and transforming back into the essence which faded into the air.
"WHOOOOA, That was disappointing, to say the least." I thought thinking back to when Afshin used the Blazing Rose. This seemed like an unfair comparison.
"As you can see, it's not practical to use throwing magic without throwing something." He said as he reached towards a small pouch and pulled out a wooden needle. "Now, if you were to throw something," he said as he got back into his stance, and performed his throw and the needle flew from his hands, the same vermilion-colored energy as before pooled into the needle and transformed into a blazing flame. The flaming needle went far before transforming into the essence and dissipating in the air again.
I screamed mentally "WOOW! Now that's what I call magic, that was on par with the Blazing Rose" Her eyes went wide as if they had seen something magnificent which she did. "Whoa, what was the difference between the two? What caused that one to last longer than the previous one?" Thoughts raced in her mind trying to come up with answers
"the best way that I can explain this, try to imagine that the mana, is like water, and put it into poorly made waterskin. The water will leak from the waterskin. Now try putting water in a good-quality waterskin, the water will not leak. The mana needs a vessel to function properly." Alfalin said as he moved his hands around in a wave-like manner
"I guess that makes sense. Hold on my companion said that mastering a form takes ages to master, but what you did didn't look that complicated to do." I asked confusedly.
Alfalin looked up at the stars for a few moments before answering her "You're companions would be right in that assessment, I'll give them that much. Like you said any could wave their arms and move their body around, But it takes skill and practice to understand and move mana through their body during the movement. If you would like you could try and follow me, I may not know how to teach people about the magic part of it, but the physical part, that I can do." Alfalin said confidently, his mouth spread wide with a smile.
Alfalin moved slowly enough for me to understand what he was doing. "I get the feeling that if he was in my world, he would be like an older brother to others. I guess it makes sense given he's king." She thought to herself.
After a while of him teaching me the physical element of throwing magic. I decided to start to walk around the garden, intending to look at the iris-looking plants.
Alfalin would soon catch up to me, walking beside me. "So Lady Hiyori if I may ask you about your world, what's it like? The royal archives have some personal accounts from previous heroes all of them describe their world as with all of telling of a more advanced than our own," he asked sounding innocently
She walked in silence for a few moments, with nothing but the occasional soft gust of wind to fill the silence. "Well you're accounts are right, my world is far more advanced than your country, if I were to put where your country is at with my world history, then my world is about 2,100 years more advanced technology-wise, give or take another 100 to 200 years because you guys have magic.
Alfalin quit walking and stood still "You mean to say that you and the previous heroes are more than 2,100 years more advanced than we are; you must tell me more about your world what kind of technological marvels do you have that we do not have." he exclaimed in shock
I don't blame him. If someone should up to me back in my world and said they were more advanced by 2,100 than us I would be too, it would be like showing uncontacted people any modern electronics, they would be astonished by it, or call it witchcraft claiming it to be the work of evil spirits.
"Umm, sure if you say so," Hiyori said as she proceeded to tell King Alfalin the wonders and marvels of modern science.
..
..
"So King Alfalin, what is this?" She said while sitting in front of the blue iris that was faintly glowing.
"Please, lady Hiyori I told you that you may call me just by my name," Alfalin said as he crouched down to the glowing plant. " This little plant is called a gleaming iris, it is mostly known for its soft light that it gives. We use them during ceremonies due to the light they give, it reminds us that everyone has a light inside of us that can be used to light up this dark world." He said as he moved his hand around it causing the iris to gleam with light, before quickly letting his hand move away.
Hiyori out of fascination would soon replace his hands with her own around the gleaming iris, but before she got close she noticed that the purple gem began to glow when she brought it close to the blue flower.
"Hey, Alfalin would it be okay with you if I picked the flower? She asked wanting to see what would happen when she put the flower close to the purple gem.
"Indeed it would be fine, it's not like we don't have a bunch of these flowers growing around the palace," Alfalin said calmly, eyes filled with intrigue.
So she plucked the flower from the base and brought it closer to the gem, with it growing brighter and brighter as it got closer.
Until the shining stopped and the flower disappeared, with a beeping sound filling the silence.
[Weapon condition met]
Gleaming Throwing Stick
Abilities locked equip effect: Magical defense +1
Unique Equip effect: [Gleaming Throw]
After she finished reading the words, she promptly switched to the new weapon. Her boomerang or throwing stick? She didn't know which one it should be called, She wasn't a weapons nerd, she knew some weapons but that would be stuff like swords, polearms, and bows which was to be expected considering her passion for history, not weapons from native and aboriginal tribes.
The one feature that stayed the same was the purple gem on the weapon aside from that the original wooden boomerang had changed completely, with the shape roughly being the same, the wood was replaced with a green stem growing out from the gemstone, with the gleaming irisis sprouting from the stem.
"Whoa, this is so cool I have in my hands a magical transforming weapon!" She said excitedly.
"Such rare and potent power is embedded in this legendary weapon," Alfalin said as he moved closer to Hiyori while reaching his hand toward the boomerang.
When his hand was close to the weapon, it fired a zap of lightning at Alfalin's hand.
"oh my I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to do that. Well, that wasn't me but I'm sorry that it zapped you," She quickly blurted out in panic, worried that she hurt him.
He gave out a small laugh "As if it could hurt me. It may be a legendary weapon, but the wielder is still level one, while I'm level 89" Alfalin said confidently while looking at the boomerang, as if to challenge it. "So, what can this new form do?"
She sat there for a few moments before getting up off the ground. "From the looks of it, it has a unique effect when it is equipped, called [Gleaming Throw]," she said while thinking about what it could do. well, there's only one to find out what it can do.
she prepared herself, took a deep breath in, and threw the throwing stick. It went quite a distance before she yelled"[Gleaming Throw]"
The Throwing stick began to gleam with light as the Irisies began to shine. If it were any closer to them, then it would have blinded them for sure. After the light died down, and the throwing landed on the ground, it instantly teleported to her hands.
She would need to do some hunting tomorrow when she woke.
"Okay Your Majesty, I am feeling oh so tired and require rest, if you would kindly excuse me I'm heading to my room to catch some rest." She said in a sarcastic formal way.
Alfalin bemused by her antics decided to join in. "Oh please, let me escort you to your chambers personally. What would people think if I let people roam the palace cluelessly."

[Database Entry three "Gleaming iris"]
{Gleaming irises are a magical flower that produces faint light by themselves, but when aided by people, they shine brightly. Like many magical flowers, these are scarce within the Jerin Arid Zone due to the lack of moisture and water required to grow.
The Gleaming Irises are commonly known as Gleaming hopes due to their association with their use in religious ceremonies, with their light often being used as a metaphor for the light that is present inside everyone being able to shine brightly with the aid of everyone.}
