Sesshomaru wasn't an inu who participated in the act of misrepresentation, especially when it came to himself. No matter the situation, it is best to tackle your problems with the facts. That was one of his creeds in life. An unpleasant truth is far better to know than a comforting falsehood. Therefore, he refused to lie to himself.
The Miko interested him. How deep that interest ran, he was still unsure. So it was with great reluctance that he began analyzing these feelings.
Initially, the Miko had drawn his attention by pulling his father's fang free, a feat neither he nor Inuyasha could manage. Then, she survived a direct attack from his dokkasō. Literally, no other being could claim to have accomplished that.
Not long after that, she dared to shoot her arrow at him, not once, but twice! One of those times, she even managed to cause him some damage. Her bravery, for he refused to call it anything less, continued to shine when she rushed toward a wild Inuyasha in the hopes of bringing him back to his senses.
Never had he seen her back down in a fight. Never had she shown fear in the face of an adversary. She was loyal to a fault, nurturing, dedicated, and determined. She, as the only one with the ability to sense jewel shards, was also the true leader of her small pack.
Then there were her origins. To have been born half a melinia in the future... to have the abundance of knowledge available to her as she did. And even though the luxuries of his time were considered common staples in hers, she still chose to return.
That showed her honor and dedication. Something most ningen lacked. She always seemed to put her duty first, letting her personal desires fall by the wayside.
Another thing was her instincts, which were uncannily similar to a yokai. She took to Rin and the fox kit like a duck to water. Those were her children as far as she was concerned, and she honestly did a damn good job at it.
Both children were well fed, educated, disciplined, unspoiled, and most of all... happy and loved.
The Miko, "Kagome," he allowed himself to think privately, was an all-consuming being. He realized he wanted to know more about her. No. Not just more… He wanted to know everything!
But how to go about it? It's not like he could just strike up a conversation with the girl.
Contrary to what many people thought, Sesshomaru was highly inept when it came to the fairer sex. Having never been with a woman, he had absolutely no idea how to talk to one without sounding condescending. He also didn't exude carisma like the Miko, and he was fairly boring when he thought about it.
It was absolutely pathetic. Here he was, nearly 900 years old, and this was his first time being interested in another being, let alone a female! How humiliating. The Great and Terrible Lord of the West was at a loss for how to strike up conversation with a human onna.
Glancing subtly in the direction of the woman currently occupying his thoughts, Sesshomaru gave an internal sigh. He was the Killing Perfection, the Aristocratic Assassin. Beings, human and yokai alike, cowered in fear of him. Yet he was helpless in the ways of womanly wills.
