Seto went and hoped Raina was still in the office. He knocked and waited.
Raina opened the door. She and Zariah were fixing the room up. "King Kaiba, what do I owe the honor?"
"I've talked with Samantha and how would you feel about tutoring Maura instead?"
Raina slumped and said, "If that's what you wish I won't argue."
"You don't sound pleased. You've never met either of them have you?"
"No sir I haven't. But I was looking forward to a challenge."
"You don't think Maura will be a challenge?"
"Only if she had one of those weird teachers."
"Weird?" Seto questioned.
"Yes, to impress the royal parents they start out by teaching the children correctly. Then they slowly start teaching things they should be teaching them when they're a lot older. Then when the kids have a basic understanding they show off and are highly praised for it. They now believe their child is a certified genius."
"Things like chemistry and biology?"
"Yes… how did you know?"
"Before Samantha, the current teacher. We had hired one that did nothing but keep him all day and apparently yell at him for his stuttering. Then she gave him tests on those subjects just to see if he could do it."
Raina frowned, "Just from what I've heard from Zariah about the boy. He can't be more than preschool, maybe early kindergarten level and the idiot thought he could somehow know these subjects?"
"What?! I was told 1st or 2nd grade. That he'd be on track to get to the grade he should be by this time next year."
Raina raised an eyebrow, "Grade level I won't debate until after I've tested him. I'm only going by what Zariah has told me. But there's no way he'll be at his grade level by next year."
"But I was told…"
"What you wanted to hear."
"I wanted the truth. He won't be at his level this time next year? You're sure?"
"If I gave you a book with a thousand years of history on any kingdom of your choosing, even this one. Then you only get to study it for a few hours a day. I want you to have it finished by this time next year."
Seto frowned, "A thousand years! That's impossible?"
"That's basically what you're asking from him. To cram over 5 years worth of knowledge into a single year."
"I hadn't thought of it like that."
"All I've ever taught has been royal children. Some good, some spoiled rotten. The spoiled rotten ones are the worst. You can't say anything to them. Not even get to work or do you want help, without being reprimanded. Their angels never learn anything because you're not allowed to do more than hand them a book and hope they want to learn and ask you for help. Then when the royal parents learn their kid has learned nothing I get the blame. I do my best to encourage them sometimes gently, sometimes it escalates to a little more forcefully. If Maura is one of the ones with advanced and not a lot of normal level stuff then maybe she'd be a challenge. But if Maura was taught correctly she's probably either at her level or one or two levels ahead. So no big deal. Just straight forward teaching. I can do it, no big deal. But honestly I…I've never taught a child with so little schooling before. I was really looking forward to a new challenge."
Seto smiled at both the honesty and the willingness to take either kid but preferred Mokuba unlike Samantha who was eager to teach Maura. "Samantha said she wanted to teach Maura. You will be teaching Mokuba."
"What? But you just said…"
"I wanted to test you. After hiring and trusting two different teachers and the one I hired personally and trusted turned against what she was hired for. I wanted to see your response to being told to take Maura. Your willingness to teach both but preferring Mokuba assured me that you're the right fit."
Raina was shocked she'd never been tested before but then smiled, "Thank you King Kaiba. I've never been tested before. I look forward to teaching Mokuba." She had never been tested before and was happy to have passed. Teaching Maura wouldn't have been challenging if she was taught normally.

Ryo meanwhile was determined to help heal Mokuba. He'd asked Seto after Yami left if he knew where they had done their tour. Seto wasn't certain but told him where he thought they went.
Mokuba wondered why Ryo was bringing him here; he'd already explored the area with Yami.
Ryo took him and they walked in. Ryo was in awe. He'd never had taken the opportunity to actually explore the castle before. It was so big and massive compared to his room. He hadn't yet moved to the barracks. He knew since he gave up Mokuba that he should, but was a bit reluctant to leave the boy.
