I was curious, and looking into it, I discovered that as of the last chapter, this is officially the longest story I have written (so far, who knows what will happen in the future). Of course, that doesn't include Finding Love, which is a compilation of one-shots for Usagi x Mamoru. Thank you so much for sticking with me on this story. I have enjoyed the time I've been writing it and look forward to finishing it so that you all have a completed book to read. I really hope you're having fun reading this. Thank you to you all! Cloaked and sitting on the dias in the meeting place for The Order, Satoru sighed and worked to keep from shaking his head.
"They released those zombie things again to trick us into trusting them! We need to get drones downtown to track them," one of the members said.
Satoru refrained from calling him a complete idiot for the sake of diplomacy and subversion. He reminded himself he was a double agent and replied, "Or we can be smarter and follow the leads we do have." He singled out his best computer forensics analyst. "Those things seemed to have been stored in that warehouse. Can you look into who owns the place and get me their names?"
"Yes, president," the man answered quickly.
"Good," Satoru replied. "Now, once we discover who owns the place, we will need you," he said, indicating one of the members who was a private investigator. "Track them and find out who they associate with."
It was the initial idiot who objected. "We need to track the vampires, werewolves, and witches!" He couldn't tell how many there were of each with the glamor, and that inserted him even more.
Satoru said, "And tracking the owners and finding out who they work with would reveal that. Assuming you're right, and they're all in it together."
"I am!" The man objected strongly.
Smiling wide, forcing the annoyance off his face and out of his voice, Satoru said, "One, you don't speak to me like that, and two, then tracking whoever is associated with that place will lead us right to them."
He looked over at the man who was now his Vice President and said, "Please speak to him and remind him of his manners after the meeting." Turning back to the room at large, he said, "Maybe you all haven't realized that our former leader's actions have brought us under police scrutiny as a whole. Drones are illegal to use in Tokyo, and doing so would draw further attention to us that would be detrimental to our cause. Acting on your own in any way that brings police interference will get you quickly expelled; that order comes down from the head office in Romania."
He watched as many shifted in their seats nervously over that bit of news. It was his Vice President's interruption that pleased him. Technically the man was also out of order, but it just cemented his lie, so he appreciated it. "I saw the email, and they're pissed!"
Luna had worked wonders and made it look like the head office had sent an official communication to convey that message, and he had shown it to his second in command.
Really from Luna's research, the main office was scrambling. They had used very secure and airtight connections to ensure that the former President's crimes hadn't come to light. And yet now, for the first time in history, their secrets had been aired, and the murder charges were known.
They hadn't contacted the Kanto region chapter at all because they were afraid of the leak. One they were sure originated in the government connections they had.
When the meeting was done, Satoru was pleased. He had several people in the group effectively assisting Luna in her research. People who could, hopefully, make mistakes and be tracked, exposing the group more and more. He wanted The Order disbanded in the region and eventually all of Japan.
Raye entered the penthouse where Usagi was alone right now. Mamoru was at work with Yamato, and she came while he was gone on purpose.
Usage smiled, took her hand, clasped it, and said, "You said this was important. What's wrong?"
"Nothing new," Raye said, sighing. "It's just private." She then handed over what looked to Usagi like a rune.
"What's this?"
"It's kinda what you're thinking. I know you've heard of these." Usage nodded, and Raye continued. "And I assume you can read that," she then quickly added, pointing at the symbol on the rock, "Don't say it until you're ready!"
"What does it do?"
"I put a spell in it that you can activate. If Mamoru's memories of his parents are hidden with magic, this will bring them back. I could have done it myself, but I'm sure you'd rather it was just the two of you there when he gets his memories back."
Usagi took the rune carefully in her hands and clasped it tightly. "All your life, so many people have missed your worth. That breaks my heart for you. But know this though, as amazing as this spell is, it's your thoughtfulness at this moment that illustrates why I love you."
Raye frowned, got a far-off look, and said, "Not having any friends was so hard, and it really hurt. I used to walk around at lunchtime at school acting like I had somewhere to go so no one would see that I didn't have anyone to eat with." She then smiled and looked at Usagi. "That's over now. The past hurts, but it's now completely in my past. Please don't feel bad for me when my present and my future are so amazing. I wish I could go back to past me and tell her what was waiting for her is better than she could imagine."
Mayumi was waiting at home for Satoru. The moment he walked in the door, he winked at her, and she threw her arms around him and hugged him.
Wrapping his arms around her waist, he kissed her temple and said, "Everything went according to plan, my love."
"Of course it did. You're brilliant," she praised.
"And I was blind until you pointed out the truth to me. I adore you."
Mamoru sat in Yamato's small office in the morgue with the door shut. He didn't bother locking it since he knew he would be given complete privacy.
The phone rang three times before Dracula answered. "Hello?" He heard over the phone.
"Do you have a few minutes for a question?" Mamoru asked.
"Sure."
He sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. "It's getting hard to stay away from Usagi again."
"How hard?" Dracula asked, obviously intrigued.
"I really want to leave work just to get to her side. I don't know why it came on all of a sudden."
"Sorry to pry, but is it lust? I normally wouldn't ask, but you're right to call. It means something."
Mamoru shook his head despite being on the phone. "No. Lust isn't involved. It's actually what finally convinced me to do something and call. This feels completely different than before."
"Close your eyes," Dracula insisted. "Closed?"
"Yes."
"Now, search out the link the two of you have. What do you feel? But keep in mind it's a long distance and early on in your relationship to be feeling something, but I won't underestimate you. Just know if you can't, that's fine."
Taking a deep breath, he didn't need to; Mamoru concentrated on what he could feel coming from his connection to her. "Something big is up. It's not related to Beryl, but it's worrying her."
Dracula chuckled. "And yet, despite what I said, you still astound me. Is it an emergency?"
"No, not the way you mean. But she's upset, so to me, it is."
"Then go home. Yamato would let you leave, and actually, I'd be surprised if he didn't tell you to go already."
"He did. We compromised –I called you."
"Ha! Go. You're a vampire now… Well, a hybrid that's bonded. Despite all your self-control, you won't be able to concentrate anyway. And let's be honest. She's old and not prone to hysterics. Something is up."
Mamoru rubbed his face and then nodded again. "You're right. Thanks for being available to help me out. I'm still learning."
"As I said, I'm happy to be your teacher." And brilliantly, that was how Dracula had phrased it when he told Mamoru to call him. He knew the man wouldn't be able to ask anyone for help, but he would be able to ask for advice from a teacher. Mamoru was the perfect student and always interacted with his professors. It was the only way to get him to come to him, and it was working beautifully.
"I appreciate this," Mamoru replied. "Tell the girls I say hi."
"Will do. I hope everything turns out well."
"I'm sure you'll hear about it," Mamoru said noncommittally. "Bye"
"Bye."
