Keneely instead of going to see Mai and Isis, he went to see Yugi first. He just stepped out of the portal right into Yugi's office.
Yugi jumped, "Who are you? What do you want?"
"My name is Keneely Makena, I am officially King Kaiba's assistant. Unfortunately I don't get recognized because the king prefers Master Atemu's assistant Jasper Mazaki."
"But, but you opened a portal."
Keneely sighed, "I wasn't careful enough and Mazaki caught me opening one last year. I assumed he'd told the king. The king finally asked me to do something, as Mazaki was overwhelmed with the ball."
"What did he need?"
"He wanted to get his girlfriend a dress, then let her get her hair and nails done."
"So, why are you here?"
"I didn't know Mazaki didn't tell the king about my magic and I accidentally outed myself."
"Did the king kick you out?"
"Surprisingly no. He asked me to keep it a secret. But when I was talking to Grażyna to get money I had to tell him I was going to take her to Paire. But due to the king asking me to keep my magic secret I just told him a magic user was helping me. He mentioned you. So I'm here to ask for help. I need you to come and open up the portal for me to take them."
"How do you know magic?"
Keneely told him the same thing he told Seto about his past. "Will you help me?"
"I would but I don't know if my magic is strong enough to get past the barrier and all the way to Parie and back through the portal, to here."
"If you open it I can strengthen it without anyone knowing. That way we can get there and back no problem. After New Years I'm sure I'll go back to being invisible again. If you want I've still got some old magic books I learned from at home I can loan you. I've never taught anyone magic before but if you want and you bare with me I can help you improve or teach you whatever you want. If I know it that is. I'm no expert but I keep learning in my spare time, which is a lot. I sometimes pop over to the kingdom of Arethousa. I'll buy a few magic books from them. They actually are more advanced than the Star Kingdom. They are happy to sell magic books. The Star Kingdom not so much."
"Arethousa, I've never heard of it."
"If you like I'll see about translating a few books and copying them to a few empty spell books."
"Translate?"
"Yes, they only speak Achaikos."
"How many languages do you speak?"
"Twelve. I've tried but a couple of them are too much for me."
"Are you sure you want to teach me?"
Keneely nodded, "I finally know of a way to feel useful. I don't have to hide near the king hoping against hope he'll want me to help. That is if you don't mind me hanging out here?"
Yugi was ecstatic. He didn't mind Dartz, but he was so far away and he didn't like being in that hot volcano. He, like Yami, was given a magic ring. But for unknown reasons it didn't work as well as it did for Yami. Where Yami never felt the heat, Yugi, while he didn't feel the blistering heat one would feel without the ring, was always hot. Joey never felt the heat either.
Which is why he didn't stay to train for very long. He also didn't care for his teaching style. Yugi didn't feel like he learned a whole lot. He learned some new things but at the same time felt he had learned more from books than he did from Dartz actually. So having someone more advanced and living in the castle willing to teach him was a win.
"Of course you can hang with me. I hope we can work together."
"No offense but this office is kinda small. Don't get me wrong it's a lot of space but with all your stuff it's too small to practice. Are there any lower levels? I rarely left the king's side to explore."
"Yes, there is a lower level, Why?"
"Well we'll need somewhere to practice. We also want to keep it private. Seeing as not many people know me, the king wants this kept on the down low and I'm a private person. It's best to do this away from anyone who might think I'm a threat. Anywhere above there's a slight chance someone might hear something or someone might find a way to get past a locked door. If it wasn't the middle of winter and snowing I know plenty of out of the way places to set up an invisibility barrier in which to practice in peace."
"Really that sounds great. I'll look for a room for us to set up in."
"It's getting late, I should go now. I'm sorry I bothered you."
"Wait, I thought you wanted my help?"
"You said you couldn't do it."
"But you said you could help, right?"
"Well I did and I can. I guess we got off topic. I just assumed you weren't interested in helping."
"Don't be silly. Of course I'll help." Yugi would have felt incredibly guilty if Keneely had come back and started to help him with his magic and he had refused to help with the only thing asked for.
