Hatori, Artemis, and Yamato were all at the scene where the battle had happened. As much as Yamato had joked to embarrass Mamoru, the truth was he said he had sent him home because he had a test to study for. This was why no one was surprised Yamato arrived alone from the morgue. Now they were there in their official capacity investigating the scene of the crime.
Reports were already coming in regarding the drug levels in those that had been rescued at the scene. This meant that for precaution, everyone who went inside of the building had to be wearing a hazmat suit. Fentanyl could be on any surface and end up killing them.
Therefore Hatori and Artemis rushed suiting up to get inside to ensure there wasn't anything incriminating for the wrong people at the scene.
(NOTE: The one's at the shrine are - Rei, Jadeite, Grandpa Hino, Makoto, Nephrite, Minako, Kunzite, Ami, Zoisite, Naru, Sapphire, Usagi, Mamoru, Luna, and Artemis. Anyone else who comes in I will mention)
Motoki walked up the long shrine steps with Reika. He hoped he was making the right decision in bringing her along after Mamoru had texted him what happened to Jadeite. Reika noticed his nerves and said, "It won't hurt my feelings if you tell me not to come along."
He shook his head. "No, I want you to come. Just… it's going to be overwhelming."
"More overwhelming than fighting a 600-year-old spirit that has possessed your body and wants to take you on a massive killing streak that starts with your family?"
That got him to laugh out loud. "Point taken. I'm just trying to warn you that it is going to be intense."
They crested the stairs, and that was when he could hear the screaming. "You fucking stupid moron! Yeah, I can't have children, but if you were dead, I couldn't have either!"
Jadeite's response wasn't intelligible to them, but they could guess it based on Rei's loud response. "So you want me to have someone else's child!? I could still do that —dipshit! Keep pissing me off, and maybe I will! If it bothers you so damn much, I can go out right now and find someone to impregnate me!"
That apparently had pissed Jadeite off. He yelled, "Don't you dare! I'll kill any man you fuck!"
"I don't want any other man! It's why I don't give a shit that you can't have children! I almost lost you today! How was I supposed to continue on if that happened!?"
"Or," Motoki whispered to Reika. "It's going to be like watching a bad reality TV show."
"They're my guilty pleasure," she whispered back.
As they rounded the corner, he noticed the Jadeite's head was hanging low as Rei glared at him. Still, as they approached, everyone turned to look at them.
"I didn't know Reika was coming," Mamoru said, feeling responsible for her appearance since he had texted Motoki.
"Don't worry," Rei replied, waving her hand in dismissal. "She's bonded with him. We might as well start letting her in on our secrets now."
Motoki flushed with pride and delight. He was right in his interpretation of how Rei had looked at them the other day. Reika was his love that Rei had seen and mentioned earlier.
"Bonded?" Reika asked, not following along.
"You would call it a soulmate. Witch," she said unnecessarily, pointing at herself. "I see things like that."
"Oh," Reika replied. She then looked at Motoki and acknowledged, "You were right. It's overwhelming."
Rei scoffed, "I don't mean to sound rude, but if that's a lot, it's time for you to leave."
"I have a soulmate," Reika repeated. "How is that not shocking?"
"We all handled it," Rei replied. "And I don't mean to be harsh, but I really am right now because I'm pissed at this guy." She pointed at Jadeite. "He kicked down a boobie-traped door that exploded in his face fileting open his chest and exposing his heart to the open air. And the only reason I'm not weeping over a dead body right now is because he became a vampire. And he's focusing on the fact that we can't have a child now. Moron," she said, glaring at him. "A dead man can't get me pregnant either."
Reika said, "At the risk of pissing off a powerful witch. It sounds like that's his dream too. You aren't the only one who lost something. I'm sure he doesn't want to be dead, but that doesn't stop him from grieving."
"Oooh, I like her," Luna whispered. "She's bold and smart."
Artemis wrapped his arm around Luna and kissed her temple. "Yes. But that's not really why our Rei is yelling. She's scared, and when that happens, she yells at things."
Motoki whispered to Reika, "They are Rei's reincarnated great-great-grandparents."
"You must have been silently laughing your butt off when I said it wouldn't be overwhelming."
"Probably," Makoto chimed in. "I'm Makoto, by the way. And if you're anything like me, it's easier to get used to the idea of a bonded love when he's sexy." She then slapped Nephrite's butt.
Reika looked at Motoki and smiled. "Good point there." Looking at the heat in her eyes, all Motoki could focus on was the fact that she lived alone.
Rei was annoyed over how accurate Artrmis' comment was about why she was yelling. She stepped closer to Jadeite and let her pinky finger brush against his hand. He was cold now, and it was unsettling. She had watched his heart stop. Yes, he had Vampire blood in him when it did, but it still had horrified her. She hadn't been able to keep from looking at her watch. Rei knew the exact time he would have died. And every minute that passed could have been a minute she lived without him.
Stepping away from him, she said, "I'm off to talk to Mars. I figure this time I better listen to how to use the Golden Crystal appropriately."
"I thought he told you," Jadeite said.
"He did." She quickly agreed. "But it's different now that it's acclimated to a hybrid body. It will mean that the magic is done differently."
"Coming," Zoisite said, walking toward the Great Fire.
Rei met him at the door and walked in when he held it open for her.
When she was standing in front of Mars, she whispered, "I want to slap you."
"I tried to warn you," he said gently.
"I could see his heart! I watched it stop beating." She shuddered in horror. "When that bomb went off, I forgot you told me it would be okay. For a second, I was sure he was dead."
"Focus, Rei," he pressed. "You have a job to do now. He needs to become a hybrid."
"Seriously? You want me to get over it!"
Looking at her kindly, he asked, "What choice do you have, my child?"
She physically and mentally shook herself. "You're right. I need to concentrate on the task ahead. How do I make him a hybrid without exhausting myself again?"
Rei walked away from the Great Fire with Zoisite trailing her this time. When she woke up and looked at him, she said, "It might be time to die." That had left him massively conflicted and confused over what was about to happen.
When Rei stood in front of everyone, she said, "Jadeite has forty-three minutes and counting before he collapses, and I collapse too. It doesn't leave much time. I'm sorry. Apparently, this spell is easier if I do it on all four werewolves together. Mars explained that you're all linked as packmates, and that link will resist one of you changing. I'm not saying you all have to. I can still do this safely, one at a time."
"What does that mean?" Reika asked, confused.
Motoki replied, "That they have about twenty minutes to decide to die and become hybrids too. Becoming a vampire isn't an instant thing."
With wide eyes, Reika said, "Wait, what's happening here? You said a friend got hurt, but he was turned into a vampire. Now you're saying he's a werewolf too? That will kill him! Hybrids can't exist. I'm sorry, Rei, but it's not possible."
Minako spoke up, "Motoki, explain to Reika how awesome Rei is. The three of us have boyfriends to kill."
"You've decided?" Rei asked. "All of you?"
Kunzite said, "The only reason we didn't ask about transitioning to hybrids together was because we thought it would hurt you. He's our packmate; where he goes, we go. We want to do this together too."
"Damn," Nephrite grumbled. "I wanted to be sexed to death like Mamoru apparently was." Everyone laughed at that, and Mamoru would have blushed if he could.
Ami went around handing out blood tablets for the guys figuring the girls might not have brought them along. Had they been injured, they would have needed human blood anyway. She got to Rei and furrowed her brow. "I forgot to give you this for Jadeite after he transitioned."
"He drank my blood," Rei replied. "It wasn't necessary."
"Sorry?" Ami asked, now confused over the happy look on Rei's face. "I know it can be sensual, but… that's not the reason you're smiling."
"Witch blood was the first blood he had after transitioning," Rei replied.
"Oh! I forgot!" Usagi yelled. "But even I thought that was a rumor."
"No," Rei said, looking into Jadeite's eyes. "Mars also told me that you, drinking my blood, makes you a conductor for spells. He went on to tell me that witches tried to keep it a secret since the truth was causing them to be taken, prisoner. Vampires did it to make themselves more powerful. What they had to do first was to drink witch blood immediately after transition, and then feeding on them and each time enabling them to be a conduit. What that means for us is that Jadeite will help my spell along."
He caressed her cheek. "You mean this will be easier on you because of your blood being in my system?"
"Yes."
"That is a relief to me."
Reika watched in fascination as the remaining three werewolves drank vampire blood, and then the woman who loved them drained them dry. When they roused ten minutes later, the three stood next to Jadeite and drank synthetic blood.
"Well, I think it's time, Rei," Zoisite said. He then added, "Maybe watching you talk to Mars will feel different now?"
She shrugged. "Maybe it will be worse," she sassed back.
Mamoru moved over toward Rei. "What do you need me to do? It's about time."
"Come here," she prompted. "First, I need you to listen for a humming in your body." Rei raised her hands, and a white milky light began to flow like a ribbon from her palms. It then made contact with Mamoru's chest, and that spot began glowing bright gold.
"Feel that?" She asked. He nodded, concentrating hard.
"Focus on that feeling and memorize it." She paused and waited a bit and then added, "Do you have it?"
"Yes."
She dropped her hands, and his chest stopped glowing. "Okay. That was to show you how to call on the crystal. Stand there and summon that feeling again. Once you have it, just nod. Just know that it won't glow in your chest again. That was just to help you locate it."
"Okay."
With Mamoru concentrating intently before her, she raised one hand and touched his temple, and kept contact there. She then closed her eyes and said, "He promised this wouldn't exhaust me." Then a bright flash of golden light pulsed out, and her hand glowed softly. Once she took a deep, steadying breath, she pulled her still-glowing hand from his temple.
"Jadeite, come to me." He was there as soon as she beckoned to him. She then touched his forehead, and the golden light pulsed again, and some seeped into his head. He then shone softly as if lit from within, and then the light in him died away. Then she did the same thing to Kunzite, then Zoisite, and finally Nephrite. Once she was finished, she flicked her wrist, and her hand stopped glowing.
"How do you feel?" Jadeite asked Rei tentatively.
"Energized," she replied. "When I stabilized your hybrid form, I could feel energy rush into me."
Reika looked on with shock rolling through her body. She just witnessed four of the five hybrids ever to exist being created. Motoki was right. She was exceedingly overwhelmed.
