Sonic Comic Origins: Three Girls, Each One a Star

(Abigail's POV)

*It's been a few days since the Tournament. Today, me & the Freedom Fighters were having a training session in the Sky Patrol's training simulator.

Sonic: Sal, Abby! Get down!

*He saved us from a rain of lasses. We ducked behind a pile of rubble as a robot spider with Eggman's face on it went past us* Yo, Nicole! This exercise was supposed to be "challenging," not "mentally scarring!"

Sally: Uh-huh. Thanks for the save.

Abigail: We owe you one.

Sonic: No prob. We do this sort of thing all the time.

Sally: It certainly seems like it!

Abigail: Yeah . . . *I frowned as I let her words sink in**in her mind*

(Flashback)

*Lacey & I were born in a small village in Mercia just outside of Snottingham. We met when we were just babies because our Mom's were friends. My life was pretty much perfect. I had a good home, a loving family, and a great best friend. But all that changed the day Swat-Bots attacked our village. Lacey & I had gotten separated from our families in the confusion. The next thing we knew, we were surrounded by Swat-Bots. I was ready to accept our fate when suddenly, a hero appeared. They was our first encounter with Sonic the Hedgehog & the Freedom Fighters. That day my life was forever changed. I wanted to join the fight against Robotnik & save the world. So I began training really hard to become a great fighter. I aspired to join the Mercia Freedom Fighters & restore my homeland. But I never got the chance. It was my 13th birthday. The day had started like any other birthday. A party, all my friends there, cake, & presents. Then my Mom gave me a pendant that has been passed down thru her family for generations. But the happiness ended when our village was suddenly attacked. It was Mordred & his men. I don't know why they attacked us, but I really didn't care. All I knew was that I this was my chance to protect my home & my family. I fought them back with all my might, but it wasn't enough. In the end I was captured & brought before Mordred. He told that he had seen my skills & was impressed. He said he wanted me to join his Egg Army branch. When I refused, he took my family & Lacey, along with her family, hostage. He threatened to have them if I didn't do as he said. I worked for him for two years. During that time, I secretly sent information that could help the Mercia Freedom Fighters to them. Eventually, I was discovered & escaped. I made to the Kingdom of Acorn, where I met my longtime heroes, the Freedom Fighters. They helped me save my family. And since our village was destroyed in the invasion, me, my family, & Lacey's were offered a place to stay in Knothole. I was also asked to join the Freedom Fighters and of I said yes. During my time, I've fought many battles, faced many villains, & met many amazing people. It became my new life. One that I loved. One that is knew would end someday . . .

*I sat on the couch in Freedom HQ, deep in thought. Huck sat next to me, looking worried about the sad expression on my face. That's when Sonic & Sally came in. They noticed the look on my face & came up to me. Sally next to me & Sonic stood in front of me*

Sonic: Hey, Abby. What's with the face?

Abigail: What face?

Sonic: That face.

Abigail: There's no face. This is my face, that's all.

Sally: Come on, Abby. You know we know you better than that. What's wrong?

Abigail:*sigh* It's just . . . Do you guys ever wonder when this'll ever truly be over?

Sally: Well, sure. I mean, there are times when we're tired of fighting all the time and just want it to end. But then, we remember why we keep fighting. To protect the people we love and there are so many people out there who look to us for hope. They trust us to protect them and make the world a better place.

Abigail: And even if it ever does, what do we do do then?

Sonic: Well, that's the good part, I guess. We get to go out and find a new meaning to our lives.

(Present Time)

Abigail:*in her mind* Hmm . . . Thinking about it, their right. All the constant fighting does get a little tiring sometimes. But in the end, it's always worth it. Seeing the smiles of the people we've saved always makes it worth while. And gives me the strength to keep going.

Sonic: Yo, Sal! You gonna coordinate the team, or what? And, Abby, get your head in the game.

*Sally activated her Ring Blades & I got out my Hook Swords*

Sally: Since when did you ever wait for me to have a plan?

Sonic: Since when did you ever take so long to come up with one?

Abigail: Quit dodging questions and start dodging attacks!

Sally: I need to cover me and Abby while we link up with Antoine, Bunnie, and Lacey!

Sonic: Can do. On your mark!

Sally: MARK!

*The three of us ran in different directions*

Sonic: Time to squash that giant bug!

Abigail:*in her mind* I know that someday, the fighting will end. But until then, I'm happy fighting alongside my friends. The Freedom Fighters!

*Sally caught up with Antoine, who looked lost on thought.

Sally: Antoine!

*Antoine jumped*

Antoine: Gyeep!

Abigail: Twan, relax. It's just us.

Sally: Sorry.

Antoine: Ahem! There is no need to apologize. If you were ze Badniks, I would've tricked you into . . . Ze false confidence?

Sally: Sure. Where's Bunnie?

Antoine: Scouting ze other side.

Abigail: Then let's link up with her and end this!

Antoine: Lead ze way, ladies!

*We ran towards Bunnie's location*

(Lacey's POV)

*I watched from my position in the training simulator, as the Spider Robot with Eggman's face on it exploded courtesy of a laser gun Rotor & Tails had built. Sonic ran away from it with a taunting smirk*

Sonic:*laughing* Say g'night, Gruesome!

Lacey:*in her mind*

(Flashback)

Though the two of us were very different, Abby & I were like peas in a pod. From an early age, I was always into fashion, while Abby was into martial arts & sports. Most of the people who first meet us can't believe that the two of us are best friends. But we never cared. I had hoped our lives would never change. But they did. One day, our village was attacked by Swat-Bots. That was also the same day we met the Freedom Fighters after they saved us. After that day, Abby became obsessed with joining the fight against Eggman. She began spending most of her time training with her Dad. Even though she did manage to make time for me, I felt like I was losing my best friend. On the day Mordred & his men attacked our village, me, my family, & Abby's family were taken hostage to force her to work for him. For two long years, we were locked in the dungeon of Snottingham castle. Those were the worst days of my life. When Abby came to save us, I was so happy. But then, we got captured again & she was almost killed. Then we were rescued again by the Freedom Fighters. Since our village was destroyed in the invasion, we were given a home in the village of Knothole. I was happy continuing my peaceful life, even if Abby wasn't in it most of the time anymore. She had achieved her dream of joining the Freedom Fighters. I was seeing her even less. Every time the city was attacked, Abby always had to rush to help the Freedom Fighters save the say, while I stood on the sidelines & watched. When Sally was roboticized, the Freedom Fighters had to temporarily spilt up, & Rotor started recruiting new members, I immediately jumped at the chance. At first, I thought it was an opportunity to join the fight. But one day, a thought crossed my mind . . .

*I was sitting under a tree in the park in New Mobotropolis, lost in thought. Just then, Mighty came up to me*

Mighty: Hey, Lacey. What's wrong?

*I was quiet for a minute & then I sighed*

Lacey: Mighty. Do you think I'm being a bad friend to Abby?

Mighty: Huh? What gave you that crazy idea?

Lacey: It's just . . . I'm happy I decided to joined the fight against Eggman, but I'm starting to wonder if the only reason I joined was to spend time with Abby.

*He sat down next to me*

Mighty: What do you mean?

Lacey: After Abby joined the Freedom Fighters, we started seeing less and less of each other. I even started feeling jealous of Sonic and the others for spending more time with her. But now that I'm helping her fight, I don't know how I can really contribute to the fight. The only things I pretty know how to do is design, make clothes, and kick things. How's that going to help win a fight?

*I felt like crying. That's when Mighty wrapped his arm around my shoulders*

Mighty: Hey, I may have known you less than I year, but I think I know you pretty well. I also know that you can do more than just make clothes and kick people.

Lacey: Like what?

Mighty: Well, remember when you entered your school science fair with that spray that can change the color of your outfit?

Lacey: Yeah. That's the project that won me first place.

Mighty: Yep. And remember the shocked looks on everyone's faces when you won?

*I laughed*

Lacey: Yeah. The members of the science club thought I had entered the fair as a joke. They didn't think a fashionista would never win first prize.

Mighty: Exactly. You can do more than just make outfits and kick things. You're good at chemistry and you're always interested in finding ways it can helpful in fashion.

Lacey: Yeah . . . It is pretty fun.

Mighty: See. There's more to you than just fashion and kicking. If I know you, you'll find a way make to your skills work with helping the Freedom Fighters.

*I smiled at him*

Lacey: Thanks, Mighty. You're the best.

*I hugged him*

(Present Time)

Lacey:*in her mind* Thinking about it now, Mighty was right. This isn't about me. It never was. It's about fighting to make sure that we all have a bright future together, and - *suddenly, I saw a flash* Oh! That's the signal!

*The flash came from Antoine's sword. I picked up one of my pink sticky string bombs, a new weapon I had just created, & threw it at the machines while Bunnie blasted them with her hand laser. The combination bomb & laser destroyed some of the machines & Sally, Abby, & Antoine sliced up the rest. That's when Sonic made the scene*

Sonic: Aww! You wrapped it up before I could have some fun!

Sally: Then you should've spent less time high-fiving Rotor and Tails.

Abigail: C'mon. If we hurry, we can help Team Rose!

Lacey: Right behind you, girlfriend! *we ran towards Team Rose's location**in her mind*

(Third-Person POV)

*In another part of the training simulator, Amy, Cream, Cheese, Big, & Froggy were getting in position for their part of the training session*

Amy: Alright, Team Rose! We made it far and Team Freedom and Team Fighters are counting on us!

Big: Okay.

Cream: R - Right behind you, Amy!

*They stood in front of a device that was holding Flickeys & zapping them*

Amy: That said, Nicole! Did you have to make our training exercise this intense!?

*Nicole's face appeared on the big screen above them*

(Nicole's POV)

Nicole: You'd scold me for going easy on you, wouldn't you? Now stop making me break character. As far as you're supposed to know, my handheld is plugged in elsewhere while I "hack into the system" from within, remember?

*I was watching my friends from my place in the Digital World of the Sky Patrol's systems*

Nicole*in her mind* Maybe I am pushing my friends a little bit, but I know they can handle it. And I know they trust me to push them without going too far. It certainly took some time to build that trust. Then again, it took some time for me to be . . . Well, me. For the longest time, I was just a voice inside a handheld computer. The most advanced artificial intelligence in the world, limited by my form . . .

*I began to remember my life before I created my body*

(Flashback)

*Sitting in between Sonic & Tails as they watched the sunset*

Nicole:*off-screen* It was hard. Living amongst them, but not with them.

*Seeing Sally & Amy's surprised faces when Sally activated her Ring Blades for the first time*

Nicole:*off-screen* Unable to share their wonder . . .

*Listening to Tails laughing at Rotor's impression of Eggman*

Nicole:*off-screen* . . . Their laughter . . .

*Bunnie & Antoine's tears the day Antone's Father died*

Nicole:*off-screen* . . . Their tears.

*I thought about everything I've done with my friends since coming out of the computer. Making music with Sonic. Helping Tails making T-Pup. Cooking with Antoine. Playing chess with Sally. Trying out hairstyles with Bunnie. Taking care of Rotor after a long day's work. Having a tea party with Cream & Cheese. Designing fashion with Lacey & Amy. And helping Abby give Huck a bath*

Nicole:*off-screen* They inspired me to seek out a way to be more than just a computer. And when I found a way to live among them, everything changed for me . . .

*Then I saw Team Rose taking apart the machine. Amy smashing with her hammer & Big using his fishing rod to pull it apart*

Cream: Cheese! Now!

*He flew inside the machine, clogging it & causing it to explode. Then the rest of the Freedom Fighters arrived*

Sonic: Aw - Nice! You didn't need us after all!

*That's when I decided to come out & join the celebration*

Nicole: The scenario is complete! "Eggman's" facility has been completely disabled and damaged beyond repair. Well done, everyone!

*All my friends celebrated. Rotor & Tails high-fived, Sally kissed Sonic's cheek. Bunnie did the same to Antoine. Team Rose cheered. And Abby & Lacey hugged each other*

Sonic: Of course! We're the Freedom Fighters. We're awesome!

Nicole: Yes, you are. My inspirations. My friends.
