Chapter Two

Journey into Terror

After returning to TARDIS, Dr Who had set the ship to fly through the vortex. Everybody was delighted that they'd seemingly outsmarted the Daleks once again.

"Well, it's a shame our holiday's ruined." lamented Susan.

"Cheer up, Susan, there'll be other chances for holidays," assured Barbara, "Besides, I'm relieved that we've managed to escape the clutches of those awful Daleks."

"Me too." agreed Ian, though he was secretly disappointed that his proposal plans had been dashed.

Suddenly, an alarm started up; wailing loudly and causing everybody except Dr Who to cover their ears. The elderly scientist walked over to a control pannel and fiddled with some buttons and switches. The alarm suddenly stopped.

"What on Earth was that awful noise?" asked Barbara as she and the others took their hands away from their ears.

"It's the TARDIS alert system," informed Dr Who apologetically, "It warns us when a hostile force is following TARDIS or if the ship is in any danger."

"So something is following us?" asked a concerned Ian.

"Yes, I'm afraid so," replied Dr Who gravely, "It seems that the Daleks are determined to hunt us down and are following us in their own time machine."

Inside the Dalek time machine, the Supreme Dalek rolled into the main control room and towards three Daleks. "Is the time machine still locked on to the enemy time machine!" it asked.

"Yes!" replied the first Dalek, "We can follow the enemy time travellers wherever they may land!"

"Excellent!" replied the Supreme Dalek, "Once you have landed in their next destination, seek, locate and exterminate them!"

"We obey!" replied the Daleks.

Back inside TARDIS, various lights were flashing and the machine made a light whining noise as it began to land.

"So, what's the plan, Grandfather?" asked Susan curiously.

"Well, I'm not entirely sure, Susan dear," answered her grandfather earnestly, "I'm hoping that we can find a way to fight the Daleks should they arrive; I can't seem to shake them off."

"Don't worry, I'm sure you'll do it." assured Susan in an optimistic manner.

Dr Who stepped out of TARDIS, followed closely by Susan, Ian and Barbara. They were inside a large entrance hall. Flashes of lightning occasionally lit up the area and thunder could be heard rumbling.

"This place reminds me of one of those Hammer Horror movies!" remarked Barbara in a frightened manner.

"Hopefully, we can find some way to fight the Daleks," said Dr Who, "Let's split up and have a look around: me and Ian will search upstairs; Susan, you and Barbara search downstairs."

Everybody else nodded in understanding. Dr Who and Ian headed towards the stairs, while Susan and Barbara began looking around the downstairs area; Susan keeping a hold of her sister's hand.

Susan and Barbara entered a dimly lit living room. Susan looked over at the fireplace and gasped in shock as she saw a pair of eyes that were attached to the mantlepiece.

"Those eyes look so real." remarked Barbara nervously as she noticed the eyes.

The two girls slowly edged closer to the fireplace. Suddenly, several hanging skeletons dropped down from the celling; accompanied by creepy laughter and flashing, red eyes. Susan and Barbara yelped in alarm at this Barbara wrapped her arms around Susan in a protective manner.

"W-what sort of place is this!" asked Susan in a voice quivering with fear.

"It's alright, Susan," assured Barbara as she hugged her sister, "I think I know exactly where we are."

"You do?" said a surprised Susan.

"Yes," replied the blonde, "We've landed inside a haunted house at an amusement park.

"What!" cried Susan in surprise as she calmed down and let go of Barbara.

"Well, basically they make a fake haunted house and put scary stuff in it," explained Barbara before walking up to one of the skeletons and giving it a light whack, causing it to swing back and forth, "See: these skeletons are plastic."

"Oh," sighed Susan in relief before turning around, "I see what you mean."

Barbara whirled around to see what Susan was staring at. What appeared to be Count Dracula was walking towards them. "I am Count Dracula." he said before doing a corny sounding laugh.

"It's an animatronic!" chuckled Barbara in surprised delight.

Susan and Barbara laughed as they walked by the animatronic.

Upstairs, Dr Who and Ian walked into a laboratory. As the two approached a slab, what appeared to be Frankenstein rose up from the slab and did a corny moan.

Dr Who and Ian raced out of the lab in fear.

"Where do you think we've landed, Doctor?" asked Ian as he tried to catch his breath.

"I think we've slipped sideways in time," speculated Dr Who, "We're in some sort of pocket dimension where fiction is reality."

"There's a more simple explanation," stated Susan as she and Barbara came upstairs, "We're in one of those haunted house attractions at an amusement park."

"How do you know, Susie dear?" asked her grandfather curiously.

"We found some plastic skeletons and a Count Dracula animatronic," answered the young girl, "It was actually Barbara that figured it out."

"Well done, Barbara," said Ian, "Your grandfather thought we might have landed in some sort of pocket dimension."

"Well, I will admit that Frankenstein looked very realistic.

In a kitchen area, the Dalek time machine suddenly appeared. The door slid open and three Daleks rolled out.

The TARDIS team were laughing when they suddenly stopped at the sound of familiar voices. "Seek! Locate! Exterminate!" came the voices of three Daleks.

"We need to get out of here now!" hissed the elderly scientist in a worried whisper.

The trio ran downstairs and made a beeline for TARDIS when a Dalek suddenly rolled through a doorway. "Halt!" cried the Dalek, "Stay where you are; do not move!"

"I am Count Dracula." said the Count Dracula animatronic as it entered the entrance hall, causing the Dalek to whirl round.

Seizing their chance, Dr Who, Ian and Barbara raced through TARDIS's doors. Susan was about to follow when two more Daleks suddenly rolled through the same doorway, causing her to freeze in fear. Unfortunately, TARDIS vanished.

"No, wait, don't leave me here!" cried the blonde in fear.

Thankfully for Susan, the Daleks were distracted by the Count Dracula animatronic, allowing her to run through the door the Daleks had come through.

Susan eyed the Daleks' time machine and had an idea. If she could get inside, she could hide and just wait until the Daleks arrived to whenever TARDIS landed, then she could reunite with the others. Susan ran up to the time machine and was relieved when the door slid open, the young girl then dashed inside.

A few seconds later, the trio of Daleks rolled into the kitchen and entered the time machine. After a few moments, the time machine vanished.

Inside TARDIS, Dr Who, Ian and Barbara were catching their breath; hoping that they could land somewhere and fight the Daleks.

"That was close, wasn't it, Susan?" chuckled Barbara before noticing that there was no answer, "Susan? Susan?"

The trio suddenly noticed that Susan wasn't in the ship with them.

"Oh my!" cried Dr Who in a panicky voice, "I've accidentally left Susan behind with those Daleks! I should've checked to make sure she was aboard"

"Please, don't beat yourself up, Doctor; we all should have checked." lamented Ian.

"Can't we go back for her?" asked Barbara.

"I'm afraid not, Barbara," sighed Dr Who in a distraught voice, "The Daleks have likely started following us again, so even if we did go back now, they would just follow us and would likely kill us quicker if we tried getting to her."

In the main control room of the Daleks time machine, the Supreme Dalek rolled up to three other Daleks.

"Give your report!" ordered the Supreme Dalek.

"The time travellers are heading for the planet Mechanus!" informed the first Dalek.

"I will contact Skaro and update the emperor!" stated the Supreme Dalek, "How is progress on the reproducer advancing!"

"It is nearly complete!" answered the second Dalek, "Soon, we will have reproduced the leader of the time travellers!"

"Excellent!" exclaimed the Supreme Dalek.

Susan had hidden herself under a control console and had heard everything. "Reproduced," she muttered to herself in a worried manner, "I wonder what they mean?"

The four Daleks exited the room.

Susan soon followed, but made sure not to be seen. The young girl followed the Daleks into a laboratory. In the centre of the room was a large glass chamber. Susan's eyes widened in shock as she saw what was inside: it was an exact replica of her grandfather.

Back inside TARDIS, Dr Who was pacing up and down; a worried look on his face. "I've got an idea!" he stated as he suddenly stopped, "If I know Susan, it's just possible that she's managed to sneak on board the Daleks time machine before it took off."

"But wouldn't the Daleks catch her?" asked a confused Ian.

"Susan's pretty good at hiding," explained Barbara before turning to her grandfather, "I think I know what you're getting at: when we arrive at our next destination, there's a chance that Susan might find her way out and reunite with us."

"Exactly!" exclaimed Dr Who hopefully as he walked over to Barbara and put his hands on her shoulders, "But it's just a hope; she might not be there, but we must hold on to that hope. This will be our last stop. We need to end this chase once and for all."

Back in the laboratory of the time machine, the four Daleks surrounded the time machine.

"Activate the reproducer!" ordered the Supreme Dalek.

The third Dalek rolled over to a control panel and pressed a button with its sucker arm.

The control and the chamber lit up with white lights as a low humming started up. The Dr Who duplicate suddenly opened his eyes. The glass slid up and the clone stepped out.

"Do you have your instructions!" asked the Supreme Dalek.

"Yes, I do indeed," replied the robot Dr Who in a cold manner, "I am to infiltrate and kill, infiltrate and kill."
