"It appears I emerged victorious in the Scrabble match. Admirable effort from both of you," Logan remarks to Katie and James. "Your dedication is evident, and your skills are honed with each game we engage in together."
"Much appreciated, Logan," James acknowledges.
"You possess a remarkable sense of fair play," Katie remarks. "What activity shall we engage in next?"
"Although this celebration is in my honor, I am curious about your preferences," Logan inquires.
"We could partake in a round of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!" Carlos suggests.
"In what manner?" Logan queries.
"In the form of a video game, naturally," Carlos responds.
"Where do you propose we engage in this activity? I suspect Griffin lacks the necessary gaming equipment and may not be an avid gamer. He leads a busy life and likely does not have the luxury of immersing himself in a digital realm for extended periods, fixated on a screen, depleting valuable cognitive resources," Logan observes.
Laughs at his concern. "I cherish our friendship, but you're overly anxious. The gaming situation is under control. Griffin granted us permission to install our FunBox on his colossal plasma screen, ensuring an unparalleled viewing experience in pristine high definition," Kendall remarks.
"Are you certain he won't object?" Logan inquires, still uncertain.
"Absolutely. I assure you, we won't face any repercussions," Kendall reassures.
"You can even use the plasma controller, Logie," Carlos offers.
"What makes the plasma controller so unique?" Camille questions, only to be met with gasps from Carlos and James. "Did I say something wrong?" She asks, taken aback.
"Regrettably, yes," Kendall responds, sighing and shaking his head.
"My apologies?" Camille says, unsure if she offended him.
Attempts to explain Kendall's frustration. "Kendall's annoyance is not directed towards you, Cami. It stems from Carlos and James expressing their astonishment at your inquiry about the significance of the platinum controller. You see, there are four of us and four controllers, but the platinum controller holds a special place because of its cushion custom grip, larger size, and enhanced usability. Consequently, we often find ourselves engaging in time-consuming arguments over who gets to use it. By the time we resolve these disputes, I am too mentally drained to even enjoy the video game we initially intended to play," Logan explains, his exasperation evident.
"I comprehend your point, Logan. Although I may not be as passionate about gaming as you guys, I can empathize with the attachment to that controller. It's akin to when I audition for roles outside of my acting commitments in Witches of Rowdale Drive. Naturally, everyone gravitates towards auditioning for the lead role, as it offers the most screen time and dialogue. It's the pinnacle of the show, the favorite among fans. If someone were to secure the role I desired, I would undoubtedly feel upset, but I would also be happy for the individual who gets to fulfill their dream of becoming an actor," Camille responds.
"Your comparison is truly insightful, Cami," Logan acknowledges.
"Thank you, Logan," Camille expresses with a warm smile.
"It is time to select our avatars," Carlos declares. "Traditionally, I embody Donatello, the cherished Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle. However, in honor of your special celebration, Logie, I offer you the opportunity to assume his role if you wish."
"That is a significant gesture, Carlos. Your generosity knows no bounds," Logan acknowledges.
"I understand it is not obligatory, but it is my desire. You have faced numerous challenges recently, especially with your arm injury. Despite this, you continuously support me in various ways. From aiding me with schoolwork to taking on my responsibilities when I am unwell, and even daring to explore new skateboarding maneuvers with me. You are not only an exceptional friend but also the most remarkable brother I have ever known, Logie!" Carlos expresses, embracing him gently, mindful of the arm sling.
"Thank you, Carlos," Logan responds. "Your unwavering kindness towards me does not go unnoticed."
"Alright, everything is set up," James announces. "Carlos, since you're more experienced with this game, you'll have to guide us on what to expect and how to play."
"It's a mix of easy, fun, exciting, challenging, and mind-blowing," Carlos explains, striking a dramatic and confident pose. "Join me, my brothers, as we unite and defeat the Shredder!"
"I don't understand," Camille says, tilting her head in confusion.
"I've known Carlos for years, but I've never really understood him. However, he's always a blast to be around," Logan remarks.
"Alright, here are the rules: press A twice to jump, press B to duck, press Left and Right for a double cross kick, press Right to punch, press Left to use your weapon, press X to obliterate your opponents! Let's become the heroes of New York!" Carlos exclaims, followed by a maniacal laugh.
"Should we be worried about his obsession?" Camille asks, listening to his insane laughter.
"Nah, we gave up on that years ago. He's just really passionate about the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series, and there's no need to dampen his excitement," Logan reassures. "Come watch us play, please."
"Okay," Camille agrees, and they all head to the couch.
I can see that everyone has chosen their characters. Kendall, you picked Leonardo, who is the leader of the group, just like how you lead us as the captain of our hockey team. Logan chose Donatello, who is super smart and enjoys building gadgets. I'll be Michelangelo because he's a fun-loving dude. And James is Raphael because they're both strong and have a hot temper." Carlos says.
"Wait a minute, hot-tempered? Did you really just describe me like that?" James asks, feeling offended.
Ignoring his complaint, Carlos laughs and says, "Alright, time to start the game." He presses the start button on the game menu.
"I know you heard me talking to you, Carlos," James says, knowing that he was being ignored.
"Sorry, can't hear you. Too busy playing. Focus on dodging the bad guys," Carlos says, knowing that James is agitated and secretly enjoying himself.
"Carlos, stop dismissing him like that," Camille says.
"Relax, Cami. James won't stay mad for long. In about two seconds, both he and Carlos will be laughing as they enjoy the game. This is what we do as brothers - we get on each other's nerves, sometimes on purpose. I don't know why, but I try not to resist it," Logan says.
"Teenage boys are the weirdest species to live on this planet," Katie says.
"Well, that's just hurtful," Kendall says, rolling his eyes as he focuses on the game.
When the sun sets, the friends opt for alternative activities before nightfall.
"I'm famished. Luckily, we have pizza ready to devour! Just like the teenage mutant ninja turtles! Radical dudes! Cowabunga!" Carlos exclaims.
"I have an exciting day planned for us tomorrow. It's a super special surprise for you guys. Please try not to stay up too late. I'm specifically referring to you, Kendall," Logan states.
"Why are you singling me out?" Kendall inquires.
"Because even at home, you always stay up late watching hockey games and seem to forget that we share a room. What you hear is what I hear," Logan explains.
"It seems like you're not a very considerate roommate, Kendall," Camille remarks.
"I am considerate. I always inform Logan that I'll be staying up for a while watching hockey videos, and he always says, 'Okay, Kenny. Do your thing.' Now he's complaining," Kendall sighs.
"Kendall, it's common courtesy to eventually turn off your tablet because you share a bedroom with Logan," Camille advises.
"You're right, Cami. I'll make more of an effort. I apologize for being disruptive at times and cutting into your sleep, Logan. I don't intend to be a difficult roommate," Kendall admits.
"I know you don't. If I were truly upset, I wouldn't want to share a room with you anymore. Your annoying habits haven't driven me away yet," Logan reassures.
"Thanks, dude," Kendall says, fist-bumping him.
"Are you little ones not tired yet?" Ms. Knight inquires.
"Just one more SpongeBob episode, pretty please," Katie pleads.
"Haven't you two had your fill of SpongeBob? You've been glued to the screen for a solid three hours," Kendall remarks.
"You can never have enough SpongeBob," Carlos insists. "He's like family to us."
Kendall eyes Carlos warily, bemused by his devotion to a cartoon character. "He's not real. Time for bed. Goodnight," Kendall declares, already retreating to the bedroom area.
