Notes:

I plan on making some major changes to the earlier chapters before continuing further through the story. I'm probably 10% or so through the story. A lot more to come. Hope you enjoy it, if you have recommendations or critiques I'd love to hear them!

His Lady of the Moon:

Prologue:

Artemis POV:

"Let go of me!" the Sea Spawn screamed, his eyes afire with frantic panic. Normally she would have punished such insolence, but this time she would be merciful. Part of her reasoning was his father. Poseidon loved his children dearly and would do much and more to protect and avenge them, and this one she thought to herself wasn't just an ordinary son of Poseidon. She knew he was her uncle's favorite child, even among his trueborn immortal children, Percy was held more dearly to the Earthshaker. She would never admit to being afraid, but she knew Poseidon was of a similar strength to her father, there had always been whispers that he was stronger than her father, but restraint and humility had always held him back from exercising his power. They had almost had their curiosity sated a few years ago when war had nearly broken out. She wondered why Perseus had become so beloved by his father, perhaps it was because he looked so much like her uncle, or perhaps it was how many gifts Perseus had inherited from him. Or maybe just maybe, it was because of the care he bore Perseus's mother, and the Hero this young man had grown into. Not hero as her kin would define, but rather a more modern kind of Hero. She had heard the whispers of how he differed from other demigods and how different he was from the rest of his divine side of the family. From what she could tell these claims weren't without merit. Many of the other Olympians scoffed at his antics, believing it was unbecoming of their family's heritage. She knew that many talks were had about him. Ares wanted him dead, Apollo and Hermes had grown quite fond of him. While Aphrodite was obsessed, which she noted didn't bear well for the young hero. Hades was uncharacteristically quiet on the matter, given how angry he was at both his brothers breaking their oaths, she had expected more attempts on the young Jackson's life by the king of the dead. She hadn't an opinion. Though given many of her 'Allies' on the council seemed to be enamored by the young hero perhaps she should at least give him a chance.

Artemis prided herself on successfully navigating the treacherous politics of her overly dramatic family. She valued her independence and rarely took sides in their squabbles.

Zoe had almost killed Percy for his ill-advised discourtesy, but Artemis cowed her companion with a look before looking Percy straight in the eyes.

"I sense no disrespect Zoe, he is simply distraught at losing his companion, he does not understand, and I won't punish his ignorance…. This time," she added coldly

She stared the young boy down, with the look she had given tens of thousands of males before him. A look that had cowed gods and monsters, she simply told him who she was.

"I am Artemis, daughter of Leto and Goddess of the Hunt."

"Um…. ok," he said, a rather underwhelming reply. While she lacked her father's obsession with dramatics, she had intended her statement to have more of an effect on the demigod. She didn't know if she should be amused or furious.

The satyr gasped and fell to one knee, "Thank you lady Artemis, you are so, so, wow." he said exasperated.

She had expected as much, Satyrs had a particular obsession with her, due to her connection the the wilds. She allowed it, so long as they remained respectful. It was always wise to foster allies in the divine role she occupied as an Olympian.

Percy cleared his throat, and the Goddess returned her attention to him, slightly annoyed and disappointed, thinking he was merely trying to recapture her attention for vain reasons.

"What about my friend," he had asked, absolutely distraught.

She reevaluated her quick judgment and gave the young man a quick nod.

"She is already gone. You could dive below into your father's domain. Leaving your friends behind would achieve nothing, except to satisfy your need to feel like you are doing something." she paused before continuing. "Or you can remain here and do what you had set out to accomplish and bring these demigods to camp half-blood."

"I can't leave her," he looked devastated, he looked to the children, Nico and Bianca, and then back to the Goddess. "I can't leave them behind," he said with a sad determination. It was the last thing he wanted to do at the moment, but he would do it anyway. "But how can I find her after?" he asked. "Please help me." he looked at her, directly into her silver eyes and she felt a tug in her very being, the same feeling she had as her domain pulled upon her uncle's domain. Thus creating the tides from the meeting of two immense powers.

She felt uncomfortable at the intensity of his stare. He achieved on her what she had attempted on him, she was impressed and slightly worried. He wasn't an ordinary demigod. Even at such a young age, he held power that rivaled minor gods in raw output, if not in direction and control. He could be very useful for Olympus or very dangerous, it just depends on who he grows into. She knew then, that the prophesy spoke of him, perhaps she had tapped into her brother's domain, possibly as they were twins, or maybe the fates had shown the Silver lady a glimpse at the cards they held and the future they protect. She wondered then what he'd become if he managed to escape childhood alive. What strength and power he could achieve?

She answered the boy, "I will search for her myself, I will not allow such a brave maiden to suffer such a fate." She looked to Zoe, "I hunt alone this time. Apollo will take you to camp. You are to remain there until I return"

"But,"

Artemis looked to her oldest companion, She hoped her eyes did not betray her. If she was right, she didn't want any of her girls anywhere near this hunt, especially Zoe.

"Where I go you cannot. I will hear no arguments. Escort Perseus and his friends back to camp. Apollo will help. Before I go, I must speak with Bianca."

She sent the boy away with the Satyr and spoke with Bianca, Percy despite pointed stares from Zoe remained. It was obvious he felt responsible for the two children. She offered Bianca to join her Hunt, Perseus stiffened at this. He didn't like the idea of Bianca abandoning her little brother. It seemed this demigod had a thing for Loyalty. She noted that before moving on. Bianca accepted and gained Lady Artemis's blessing.

She called for her brother, and like always he came immediately. He was annoying, but she knew she could always count on him. Like always he called her little sis, much to her annoyance, and then he flirted with Huntresses, she wished he'd grow up, but she didn't think it was possible.

Thalia was enamored by him, disappointing, she still hoped to gain her sister as a Huntress. Percy looked slightly impressed by the Car. She rolled her eyes internally. Men she thought. They all boarded only after it was pointed out the car wouldn't fit them all and Apollo morphed it into a bus. She watched as they left her. Standing in the Snow her thoughts drifted to the upcoming war. Her family was willfully ignorant. Preferring to pretend the Titans couldn't return. Of the Council only she and Poseidon had taken it seriously, Poseidon was handcuffed though. He couldn't mobilize without her father's say-so. If he did, Zeus's paranoia would get the better of him, he would believe Poseidon was preparing to seize his throne. She missed how her father used to be. The man who stood alone against Typhon, The man who rallied all the Olympians to his side and slew and imprisoned the monster. He had allowed complacency and debauchery to cloud his mind. His brothers had grown while he had shrunk, though she would never say it aloud, for she knew her father's temper was like to raging storm, always ready to burst through.
She began her hunt.

Moon in chains:

She found the daughter of Athena….. No, it couldn't be, she was holding up the sky, then where was Atlas? She rushed to the girls side, taking the burden, she knew it was a trap, but what other choice did she have?

Sea and Stars:

She felt their approach, She was both mortified and relieved. Atlas was the Titan of endurance and strength. He was made to hold up the sky. Her strength while great was not endless. She did not know what would happen if she failed and she prayed to the fates never to find out.

She saw him first. Her breath caught, she didn't know why, the exhaustion, the surprise that he a male had managed to survive the company of her girls, especially Zoe. but as their eyes met, silver meeting sea green a seed was planted within her one that would grow as time passed and would only be realized many years later.

He and Zoe drew their weapons, the foolish boy she thought. You stand no chance against Atlas. Though her pride would not allow her to even think it, she wasn't keen on her chances against the titan. The pain of the thought that she would be forced to watch Atlas kill her closest friend while she sat there helplessly was almost too much to bear. Perseus drew his sword, her rage flared at his arrogance, to think he stood a chance. It seemed he hesitated, or like he couldn't hold his sword upright. Was he hurt? Having doubts? She couldn't tell, but now she felt fear greater than she had felt before, it was over. Her sweet Zoe couldn't defeat Atlas alone, and the boy was all but useless. but then, he turned to her, their eyes meeting once more, and she felt strength flood her, as if calling upon the sea and moon's connections. As if her uncle himself was here, she knew then that the demigod had decided something monumental, she feared he had turned. Fear and rage boiled with her heart, but then she was proven wrong again. He rushed to her and spoke.

"My lady, only you can win here, we stand no chance without you." he said with such urgency.

She groaned at the weight she bore, it was almost to much.

"I can't" she whimpered, feeling defeat for the first time in her life.

Percy frowned and raised his sword, she thought he was about to strike her down, she closed her eyes, for the first time in her life completely helpless, completely vulnerable. She felt the sword glide past her face striking the chains that held the moon.
"Give me the sky, my lady." he said firmly, he sounded nothing like a 14 year old boy, he reminded her so much of her uncle, but kinder, calmer.

"You can't hold it." she whispered.

"Annabeth did," he said definitely.

"She barely survived, and she was a maiden with the strength of a huntress."

"I only need to hold it long enough for you to put Atlas in his place, I just need to wait for you to stick him back under here. I have faith in you, please have faith in me." he said, his eyes sparkling as he said it.

"Very well" I said, handing the son of the sea the sky, and I engaged Atlas.

The battle was fierce. My speed and skill vs his cunning and strength. He had almost gotten me but Zoe had distracted him…. No Zoe. He had struck her, bellowing with pride at killing his own daughter. I felt rage like I've never felt before. Reingageing him with the fury only a goddess could muster. I forced him through my careful maneuvering back under the sky, using his own strength against him. He pushed Percy out of the way as he hurtled back into his prison. He screamed in anguish as he was forced once more to bear his eternal burden. I immediately turned to Zoe, nothing else mattered not the battle still raging or the monsters on the march up the mountain. Jackson had already begun crawling to her, they both got to her at the same time. She looked over her wounds and whispered, "Poisoned."

"Atlas poisoned her?" Percy was heartbroken, the grief washing off him almost tangible, she wondered how he had befriended her closest friend, she who hated men more than her, Artemis the Maiden goddess.

"No" she whispered, pointing to Zoe's leg. He understood immediately.

"I can't see the stars, my lady," Zoe whispered, death clinging to every syllable.

Artemis's heart broke, she couldn't bear the sight.

"We're leaving," she said.

Just then Thalia had kicked Luke off the cliff, and an Airplane had engaged the monsters marching up the mountain. "Dad!" Annabeth said confused. Artemis thought of her sister Annabeth's mother picked well this time. Brains and heart. Usually, she would only go after the brains.

She summoned her chariot. Percy was struck dumb by it.

"It's beautiful" he muttered." Just like Santa's sleigh.

Moments before she thought she'd never smile again, but Percy's goofy description of her chariot and his appreciation for its beauty had touched her, most preferred a flashy beauty. Like that of the sun gods ride, ignoring the more subtle beauty in the world. Like that of the Moon goddess. For some reason, she was glad Percy didn't fall into this camp.

"Where do you think the myths come from?" she asked

"Oh," was all he could say, a dumbfounded look on his face.

She laughed then, fates help, with tears in her eyes, she laughed.

She watched as he helped everyone else into her chariot, even after suffering the curse of Atlas, his resilience and care for others impressing her.

They left the mountain behind, once they got to a safe distance they landed and Artemis began healing Zoe.

"Will she be alright, you can heal her right, you are a goddess?" Percy asked, his faith in her and the Olympians astounding, despite the fact they had discussed killing him many times already and even once having tried to pin the blame for the theft of the master bolt on him.

She shook her head, "all I can do is try."

She looked Zoe in the eyes, she saw then the truth. Her oldest friend and closest companion was ready, she was ready to move on.

"Have I served thee well my Lady?" Zoe asked her Mistress.

"With the greatest of honor, my dearest friend." she said

Zoe looked to Thalia, "I'm sorry we argued, we could have been sisters."

"It was my fault," Thalia chocked on her words as she spoke. "You were right about Luke, about Heroes, about Men about….. everything."

"Perhaps not all men," she said, looking to the one boy she had ever befriended. "Do you still have my sword Percy?" She asked.

He brought the sword out handing it to Zoe, she held it in her hands, looking at it, contemplating something. "You spoke the truth young Perseus, you are nothing like Hercules, I am honored that you carry this sword." She smiled and then looked into his deep sea-green eyes. After a fleeting few moments, she shuddered and looked upwards towards the sky. "Stars," she whispered "I can see the stars again my lady."

A tear finally rolled down Artemis's cheek. "Yes my dear brave friend, they are beautiful."

"Stars" she spoke once again and then said no more.

Artemis bent over her companion and kissed her cheek, a light seemed to leave Zoe's eyes and Artemis reached out, tenderly taking hold of the light. She performed a ritual she had done to many times before, releasing Zoe's essence, her soul into the sky, into the stars. "Let the world honor you, my Huntress," she said. "Live forever in the Stars."

They all looked up and saw a new constellation form, Thalia smiled then, "It's beautiful" she whispered.

Percy just stared, saying nothing his eyes lingering long after the others looked away. Artemis watched him, she wondered if this was his first true loss, she knew many more would come. All who lived long enough learned well that bitterest of tastes.

Whatever comes she would see Perseus safe. He had brought Zoe peace, something Artemis had never been able to do, in a short two weeks he had healed wounds that stretched over millennia. She did not know what Zoe felt for the son of Poseidon but she was content in the knowledge that he helped her find peace at last.

She placed a hand on Annabeth, "You have done well daughter of Athena, you are brave and strong beyond measure" She then spoke to all the others, "I must go to Olympus, I can not accompany you there myself but I will send some help." She looked at Thalia who looked away, unable to meet the Goddess's gaze. When she finally met her eyes, she saw the desire she'd seen in countless girls through history, to join her Hunt.

She turned to Percy "You've done well, for a man of course." He smiled then, for the first time since reaching Mount Tamalpais. Not arrogance, she thought to herself. What then is his fatal flaw? She wondered to herself.

Politics, and Family Drama:

She flashed to Olympus, they were all waiting for her. They'd have to act now, only a fool would delay action at this point. She looked around, her brother smiled at her, her father bore a very serious look, and Poseidon smiled at her as well, not the ordinary response she got from him as a daughter of Zeus. She took up her seat on the council.

An hour or so later a decision was made, happily, it was the right one. Olympus prepares for war. The sea creature known as the Ophiotauras was to be destroyed, Grover tried to argue against it but he was cowed by one look from Zeus.

The heroes arrived later, riding Pegasi, there was a big show by Zeus and Poseidon, each complimenting their kid's endeavors. Then the real business started. She watched as the Satyr hurried to Percy and began speaking conspiratorially. She wondered what the Satyr thought Perseus could do to help. He could do nothing, she thought to herself, just wasted breath by the poor foolish Satyr. It was going well until that pig of a war god opened his mouth. "I'm just going to say the obvious here, those two are dangerous," he said pointing at Perseus and Thalia. Poseidon turned his head to Ares at the same time Zeus did. Artemis could feel the power radiating through the room. She shuddered and remembered the stories about the Big Three's younger years. When they were closer, and now she realized they were woefully understating the power of the Sea and Sky United in purpose. She wondered then how it would feel to be Ares and she smirked, not having to wonder, as the War God squirmed under her Father and Uncle's gaze. "He's right father." she heard Athena say, Artemis frowned, concerned that her sister would side with that brute. Does she truly hate Poseidon so much as to stoop to this level?

"They pose a great threat if left unchecked," Athena said. Artemis heard Annabeth gasp, "Mother!" she said with incredulity. Athena gave her daughter one look, silencing the poor girl.

"What do you intend sister?" I asked exasperated. "We slay those who fight for us? Who would ever join us if this is to be their reward? I would see them rewarded not punished."

Poseidon moved his eyes from Ares to me, I felt both my Uncle and Father's eyes upon me, both grateful, my father's eyes lingered as if trying to ask me for something, but Poseidon turned his attention to his long-time rival.

"Leave my son out of our rivalry," his eyes pulsed with power. Athena to her credit did not even flinch.

"That has nothing to do with my reasoning, please put your pride aside and realize that not everything is about you." Athena had the air of an Aristocrat's daughter talking to a foreign dignitary who she knew could not harm her without starting a war.

Poseidon did not take the bait, all he said was "Leave my son alone." the calmness of the statement was like the calm before a storm, how the water receded before the Tsunami hit. Zeus finally turned his attention from Artemis looking to Athena and his Brother.

"Peace." Zeus rumbled, some of his ancient wisdom coming back to him, now that his father's return was imminent.

Artemis looked to her sister and then her father. "If this is Olympian justice then I will have none of it! I will have them rewarded not punished, are we no better than the Titans!? To slay the children of Olympus out of fear of losing our power?"

Zeus's face flashed with anger at the comparison and Artemis had thought she went to far. Millenniums of neutrality thrown away for a girl who rejected her and…. And a boy.

A boy who earned Zoe's admiration and brought her peace when you could not, a little voice purred in her head.

Zeus's face softened and he smiled, "She's right, he looked at his brother, I will see no harm come to my daughter."

Poseidon looked at Zeus, "Nor any to my son."

They both looked out to the others assembled and spoke in unison the palace shook, "Who would stand against this decision?"

And so the vote was cast, and not one Olympian dared to defy the sea and sky. Artemis smiled, 12-0 the heroes have it.

Somehow Perseus even convinced her Father to spare the Ophiotauras, much to Grover's relief.

She was stunned at her Father's behaviour but she began to wonder if there was more to this than meets the eye. Perhaps Athena was in on it. Her agreement with Ares would draw the Ire of Poseidon. While allowing Zeus to agree with his big Brother without looking weak, due to it being within his interest to disagree with Athena due to Thalia. He'd be able to garner favor with Atlantis while maintaining the appearance of being the unapproachable king of the Gods. Poseidon wouldn't care so long as his son was safe and may even be thankful to his little brother. It sounds like something Athena would cook up. Or maybe her Father was truly changing due to her Grandfather's return. Either way, she was satisfied. She looked to her Father, ready to play her part. Zeus wanted something from her and there was only one thing that she could offer him. "I wish to offer Thalia Grace a place as my new Lieutenant in the Hunt." She spoke sincerely as well, she's wanted Thalia for as long as the girl has been alive. "Thalia stepped forward, I accept. I won't be the child of the Prophesy." She turned and gave Percy an apologetic smile.

"Very well," her Father said imperiously.

"I also extend the same offer to Annabeth Chase" Artemis spoke again.

Percy went rigid, he looked at Annabeth who was staring at the Goddess, but he said not a word. Silently accepting whatever her decision was. Artemis was both impressed and annoyed, She was impressed at his selflessness, and not allowing his feelings to hold Annabeth back. Her annoyance, she wasn't sure, but for some reason, it wasn't aimed at Percy but rather at Annabeth.

Interesting, the small voice said. She tried to ignore the nagging feeling and looked down at the daughter of Athena.

"I can't" she whispered, and Artemis knew exactly why, as Annabeth turned and smiled at Percy, and he smiled back, his Sea Green eyes shining with a beautiful light.

The War ends and a New God?:

She had been the first in, even before her father. Her fear drove her onwards, not fear for her home or her throne, not fear for herself, but fear for him. She knew ever since she met him he would be the Hero of the Prophesy. At first, she only cared if he'd stay loyal. She wondered who he was and who he'd become, but then the unexpected happened, he had become her friend. A goddess and a mortal, an impossible friendship, one that was always going to be distant even if he was a demigod and a powerful one at that. So as she ran threw the streets of Olympus her mind raced, she prayed to the fates that she wasn't too late. She prayed that he lived still. When they entered the throne room and beheld the outcome of the Great Prophesy her heart fluttered. Before she could say anything To Perseus the other Olympians came storming in after her. Poseidon immediately went to his son, concern was etched all over his face. As Athena rushed to Annabeth to check on her unconscious daughter.

"Son, what happened?" the sea god inquired.

"The kid killed your old man is what it looks like to me," Ares stated, with a little awe.

Hermes paled as he beheld his son's lifeless body, "Oh Luke." he whispered

Artemis scowled at Ares and his tone-death statement.

"No!" Percy's voice was strong and fervent. His eyes met Hermes, it was as if no one else existed but them. "Luke won the day, he was the hero. He destroyed Kronos, he took control of his body back from Kronos, He asked me for Annabeth's dagger, the cursed blade. That was my choice, to choose to do it myself, to be the 'Hero' " Contempt in his voice. "Or to trust Luke, to give him the dagger so he could stab himself. I chose to trust him, he was my friend once. He saved us." Percy finished, not breaking eye contact with Hermes.

Artemis was stunned, Perseus had sacrificed all glory and triumph, and he chose instead to comfort a grieving father. He saved Olympus through trust. Through his faith, he trusted his heart, when all else told him to kill, to destroy, he chose restraint instead. Could she have done that? Could any of her kin?

Poseidon strode to his son and hugged him tight, and in that moment, when Perseus finally let his tears fall she saw the boy that had held up the sky for her. A boy that just kept losing and losing and yet never once had he given up what made him who he was, his heart.

The next few hours went by in a blur. Finally, it was time to reward the demigods who remained. Grover the Satyr was given a seat on the council of cloven elders and named Pan's successor. Annabeth was given the coveted job of Olympus's Architect. Her eyes lit up at that, clearly elated. Well deserved Artemis thought to herself. To Thalia, Zeus promised to rebuild the Hunters of Artemis, as much a reward to her as her Lieutenant. Tyson was given the command of Olympus's armies. Finally came Percy, and all grew silent.

"Does anyone dispute my son as worthy?" Poseidon asked

Not one word, even Zeus looked content.

Poseidon smiled as Zeus offered Percy immortality, she had expected his eyes to light up like Annabeth's, she expected him to have expected the offer, but instead he looked thunderstruck,… and scared, like he was when Annabeth was offered to join the Hunt, two years prior. He looked at Annabeth before shaking his head. Artemis was stunned, and she felt an unfamiliar feeling, one she had never felt. "Jelousy" that small voice spoke. She scowled and blushed slightly

"No." He said, stunning the twelve most powerful beings in existence. "No?" Poseidon asked, as stunned as the rest.

"I'm honored and all, but I made a promise," Percy spoke, his voice gaining confidence.

"What promise?" Zeus asked sternly.

"No more Ethans, no more Lukes. I want all demigods to be claimed once they reach camp, I also want the big three to end their oaths about not having children, it didn't work anyway, and trying to control prophesy never works. Also, no more minor gods being ignored, he looked to Hades, and no more family being ignored.

"Are you calling me a minor God, boy?" Hades rumbled.

"No uncle," Percy stated, truly gaining steam. "Nico deserves a home at Camp, and you deserve a throne on Olympus, same with Lady Hestia.

Zeus looked flushed, golden cheeks creeping up from his neck. "Is that all?" he asked.

"One last thing," Percy said.

Zeus sighed, he looked to Poseidon, "This is what it's like dealing with you brother, I hope you realize that."

Poseidon chuckled "Good," he said.

Zeus sighed even deeper, "Fine go ahead young Jackson."

"I want the peaceful Titans freed, Calypso and Leto for example."

Apollo looked to Artemis, they couldn't believe their ears, she looked at Percy, who met her eyes, and she smiled at him, he returned the smile.

"Very well" Zeus declared

"Swear it on the Styx," Percy added.

"What do you not trust us?" asked Hephestus offended.

"A wise god once told me always to have it in writing," Percy responded.

Hades bellowed with laughter. "Guilty," he said, still chuckling

All the gods present swore it on the Styx, and the lighting boomed

She didn't get a chance to see Percy right after the meeting. When she found him his clothes were smoking. Artemis smelt parchment, Athena she thought. She couldn't help being annoyed at her sister for being crass. He'd just forfeited Godhood for the sake of Olympus and its children. And she also thought, for the sake of her daughter.

"Are you alright Percy?" she found herself asking.

He looked at her and nodded, sadness written upon his features.

"I just wanted to thank you for freeing my Mother. Apollo and I are heading to collect her immediately. I think even Father appreciates her freedom, Hera less so."

Percy smiled, "I'm glad to hear it. She deserves a better life than the one that she got."

Apollo appeared, he looked at Artemis curiously before getting a mischievous glint in his eyes. "Hey Percy, how would you like to join us? We're heading to Greece to grab our mother, before bringing her to her new home in Florida, it shouldn't take longer than a couple of hours. I'm sure my mother would love to meet you!"

Artemis glared at Apollo, what was he up to? But before she could tell her brother off, Percy surprised her.

"That sounds wonderful, I'd be honored."

Then they flashed away and Percy caught the scent of something he hadn't smelled in years, he'd forgotten how much he loved it. He smelt juniper and Pine, the forest after rain and he could almost feel a cool mountain breeze caressing his face, he smiled to himself…. content.
