On June 6, 1944, in the height of World War II, took place the bloodiest day in the war on the north coast of France in Normandy.

D-Day.

Thousands of American soldiers launched in an attack on the Nazi-occupied France in the Invasion of Normandy which lead to the largest invasion fleet in human history. Over 156,000 American, British, and Canadian soldiers stormed 50 miles of fiercely defended shoreline.

D-Day was also proven to be the bloodiest moment in World War II, as 2,501 American soldiers lost their lives, as they were among a total of 4,414 allied troops. More than 5,000 were wounded, in ensuing Battle of Normandy, 73,000 allied forces were killed and 153,000 were wounded.
