Imagine the world of the avatars, specifically avatar Aang. Do you ever wonder what would've happened if the 12 year old avatar never ran away from the Southern Air Temple? Well here's a story on what could have happened.
It was a tragic day for Aang, yesterday he heard the elders speaking of him. They wish to send him off to a different air temple to complete his airbending training and pursue his duty as avatar, Aang had thought on running away with Appa but thought of the family of monks he'd be leaving behind forever. It was but an hour later his master and friend Monk Gyatso entered his room to inform Aang on the fact that he would try his best to not allow the elders to send him off to another air temple. At this news Aang was relieved by the fortunate news of hope that he may not need to leave after all.
And so Aang resumed his training with Monk Gyatso for the day continuing his airbending forms. It was while he was practicing these forms that Aang noticed the sky turned orange, but surely it couldn't be sunset already? He was correct, it was 2 o'clock in the afternoon...something was wrong. Other air nomads began to notice the sudden change in the sky. Murmurs rang across the temple, confused, worried and seeking of help he set off to find his master. As the frequent chatters of the airbenders added a worried tone to their voices Aang searched more and more frantically for Gyatso but to no prevail.
Just then a large explosion shattered the tense air and screamed rang across the temple, children bawled wanting the comfort of their parents, both women and men looked around petrified by the sound of the blasting fire of firebenders.
Chapter two: Allies to Enemies
Soon after the explosion, even more appeared left, right and centre in a firey blaze destroying everyone and everything in its path. Airbenders lay wounded and dead on the ground their body charred black and burning. Nomads screamed in pain and fear as loved ones burned to a torturous death. It was then Aang spotted a friend of his named Cody cornered by two firebenders, their stances showing they were ready to kill him like countless others, Aang swiftly sped towards the firebenders ready to save his friend from meeting a burning end...it was too late. The firebenders sent a flurry of attacks at Cody as Aang heard the ear-splitting screams of pain come from Cody's mouth...he was lying on the ground writhing in excruciating pain as the fire ate away at his body...finally killing Cody. Aang felt boiling rage fill take control of his mind as he sent a series of airbending attacks to one of the firebenders injuring the soldier critically, he faced eye to eye with Cody's killer feeling rage and the urge to avenge his fallen friend. The firebender tried to defend themselves from the enraged nomad with a chord of misjudged attacks, the deft air nomad dodged them with ease. Aang feeling the rage of 100 men he formed a vacuum round the firebenders head depriving the soldier of his breath. They fell to their knees clawing at the air as if they were able to grab it and bring it to their mouth, seconds go by and the attempts to get oxygen were becoming more hasty. As the longer they went without oxygen their movements become feeble and weak as at last...they fell to the ground and didn't move. Aang stood there the anger evident in his eyes as he stood triumphantly at the corpse.
Aang hesitated, what had he done...air nomads are meant to be pacifists not killers. They're meant to be kind not destructive and evil. Feeling a newfound remorse Aang set off to try and find his sky bison Appa, Aang was going to escape the temple...and never look back. As Aang dashed towards the sky bison imploring that Appa was ok...just like Cody, Appa was gone. But where he did not know as where he last left Appa there was a sign of a large struggle, but no dead bison. Either way Aangs only mean of escape was gone. Aang tapped his staff on the ground, the staff became the form of a glider. Aang set off confused what to do, he soared through the sky looking down on the chaos and death unfolding before his eyes and how defenceless his people were. Tears welled up in his eyes at the sight of corpses and debris lying on the ground while the firebenders massacred the nomads down below. It was then that Aang began to drop to the ground rapidly due to the fact his glider had been blasted by a bolt of...lightning? As Aang plummeted toward the ground he mustered up all his strength to successfully slow him down in the air providing him a safe landing, there his eyes met with the face of an evil and madness...the face of fire Lord Ozai. The Firelord sent a flurry of powerful attacks on Aang of which the avatar found a challenge to dodge, the firebenders seemed more powerful than usual. The battle went on both getting weaker and weaker as they went on. It was then that the Firelord sent a large blast of fire at Aang of which he couldn't dodge due to the scale of the attack. Aang mustered up all his power and sent his own blast at the blaze preventing him from burning right there and then. Both attacks went on for what seemed hours while Aang struggled against the power and heat of the fire, it was when Aang felt his strength growing feeble that he felt a great spark of power form in the boy as his eyes and tattoos began to glow white, the avatar state took over and Aang felt his power triple and he began to escape his firey end. As the blast of fire broke Aang sent a chorus of attacks at the Firelord who was launched into the air with a great gust of wind. However the Firelord countered and sent a bolt of lightning at Aang of which he narrowly missed and he felt the power as it cracked just past his head. The same happened for what seemed hours, a gust of air then a crackle of lightning. Aang who was burned in several places felt himself becoming weaker as his attacks grew more and more feeble, then it happened. What felt like a thousand hot knives stabbing all over Aangs body a blast of great lightning hit Aang straight in the stomach, Aang fell to the ground critically injured and writhing in pain. The Firelord sent more of the same attacks on Aang as the boy became more and more close to death, his writhes of pain and suffering becoming more and more feeble by the minute. At last, avatar Aang gave up...the Firelord had won, the air nomads were wiped out. Aang stared out into the orange sky as a comet came soaring past. Tears welled up in Aangs eyes, he had failed not only his people but he had failed the world. The Firelord could take control of the world with ease now the avatar was about to die. Aang knew that he wouldn't be reborn as he was going to die in the avatar state killing Rava with him...it was that same second that Aang closed his eyes for the last time and passed.
Epilogue: The aftermath
With the avatar gone Firelord Sozin took over the world, though taking many years Sozin finally ruled the world. A world where any other element other than fire was harshly discriminated on, the benders we speak of were sent off as slaves to serve the fire nation therefore resulting in the death of the water and earth benders. The world was consumed in fire and failure.
