Chapter 1: A Gift from the Stars and Heaven
He still remembers the day they were born. The Phantomhive twins. His precious grandbabies, little Sirius and Ciel. They felt like his little gifts from the heavens and stars. He remembers when Ciel came into the world unlike her brother we came into the world loud and full of energy, she came to the world silent and still. He felt her soul was at the cusp of life and death. After Vincent and Rachel held her both fearing the worst to come for the new life they helped create with their love, Angelina placed the quiet newborn in his hands. Cedric looked at the newborn and he smiled as he saw her sneeze. She opened her eyes and looked at him with curiosity. He brought the baby close to his face. Holding her with both hands so she could get a better look at him. Ciel giggled. It was a precious sound. With that little sound he vowed to hold it close to his heart. While words could not truly describe that precious sound, the closest thing to her little laugh was like windchimes gently ringing in the air. He was so absorbed in her laughter he failed to notice that Ciel had grabbed his silver locks with her tiny hands and tugged. Cedric winced, clearly the girl was already taking after her grandmother. Rachel patted the bed and the Phanomitve family gathered around. He handed the baby girl back to her mother. The twins were like a mirror image of the other. With their blue hair and eyes. Cedric felt his heart warm at the sight. His son, though a Phantomive had clearly found his happiness. Maybe at last the Phantomive family could just be. Even if it is just for a little while.
As the twins grew, it was clear as to which parent took after the other. Though not by physical appearance, but in health. Sirius was a healthy boy, constantly full of energy, running all about like his father before him. Ciel the other hand was sickly like her mother. Stuck inside all day with nothing but books to keep her company most of the time maybe a game of chess with her Aunt and brother so she would not feel alone. Cedric felt his heart break as he watched as Ciel look sadly through her window as she watched Sirius and Elizebeth play outside. Ciel looked away, angry tears threatening to spill. She didn't know why she felt so angry. Her mind and soul were too young to put into words so she did what any child did when they couldn't understand unfair circumstances. She cried. It truly wasn't fair. Why was she stuck inside all day while they got to play? Why could they run and jump with ease when when she tried her lungs felt like they would explode? Why did Sires get to play with Lizzie while she was stuck in her room? It felt unjust. Vincent came to her room, hearing his daughter's cries. He wished there was something he could do, but he could do nothing but hold her. Knowing that the reason she was hurting was due to tragic circumstances. Like her brother, Ciel wanted nothing more than to play but her body simply wouldn't allow it.
Ciel still remembers the day Lizzie ran to her room dragging her brother in tow. Excitement buzzed off of her. "Ciel!" She screamed as she tackled the weaker child in a hug. The bluenette flinched, but she welcomed Lizzie's affection. Once the blonde pulled away she took Ciel's hands in her own. "Oh Ciel, you'll never guess the wonderful news!" Ciel only cocked her head to the side in curiosity. Lizzie jumped up and down with joy. "We're going to be sisters! That means I can visit more and we can all play together as a family!" Ciel beamed at the news. She looked at her bother with excitement in her eyes, hoping this wasn't some prank and her heart soared when Sirus told her it was true. him and Elizabeth were now betrothed at the age of five. The three children were excited. They were going to be a family tied by not just blood but also in bond. Nothing could separate them.
A year later Ciel was told the news of her own engagement. It had been one of the few days she felt healthy and could run about with her brother and future sister. The three of them along with her Auntie and mother were playing London Bridge. As her mother's and Aunts arms trapped her in their arms. Vincent had received a letter from the queen. Sirius watched as his father read it and let out a sigh of relief. He walked up to his sister and picked her up once she was released from the "fallen bridge" Vincent showed his daughter the letter, letting her read it. Confusion knitted on her face. "I don't get it?'" She mumbled. Vincent chuckled. Sitting on the grass with his daughter in his lap. Sirius and Lizzie joined his side. Peaking at the letter. "The queen wanted to make sure you also had a friend with you like how Sirus and Elizabeth have each other.." Ciel looked at the the two mentioned and looked back at their father. "She wants me to have another sibling?" She asked. Vincent let out a laugh similar to that of her grandfather. "No, sweetheart. This boy is more like how your mother and I are. He'll always be by your side. In sickness and health, for better or worse. You will be able to count on him when you meet. No matter what."
Ciel looked at the letter again, grabbing it with her chubby hands and read it again. "So he'll be my friend forever?"
"Yes, sweetheart, he'll be your friend forever."
A few days later Ciel asked when she would get to meet him as her mother helped her get ready for bed. His heart sank when she was told the boy lived far away, telling her that she would get to meet him on her and her brother's tenth birthday. Ciel pouted. Four years. She wouldn't get to meet her forever friend for four more years. She tried not to let her disappointment show but her mother spotted it instantly as she laid her daughter to bed, running her hands through her daughter's hair. "You know they say good things happen to those who wait ." Ciel giggled before a coughing fit interrupted her. Rachel coaxed her daughter through it. Once settled Ciel curled up letting sleep take over. Her mother was right. She could wait a little longer to make a new friend.
Sadly that day never came. The manor had been engulfed in flames. Cedric will forever remember that day. He spotted a red reaper in the distance reviewing records of the souls she had reaped. That was where he found Vincent and Rachel. Their bodies burned beyond recognition. But he never did find the twins. His little gifts from the heaven and stars. He hears Madam Red's cries of anguish at the ruined manor. Another carriage had stopped in the distance. A boy no older than fourteen with skin that had been touched by the sun and plum-colored hair was forced to look away from the destruction just a few miles ahead of him. It was supposed to be a happy day for the Phantomhinves. All he wanted was for his son to have his joy and his family. But it seemed the Queens Watch Dogs were never permitted to have that joy for too long. After all, what could you expect from a family born and bred to take control of England's underworld?
