Ch 14

Of all the terrible things I had ever done, nothing in my life could have prepared me for this. If there truly was a hell on earth it would be here, now in this moment….

Mr. Delfino, Artie, Tina, the kid and I were in the dining room in the east wing. Mr. Delfino had wanted all of us together for at least one dinner. And here we were, all gathered for the slaughter I knew was waiting to happen. The room was drenched with nothing but the clinging sounds of utensil scraping plates. I quickly gulped down my third scotch of the night as my eyes settled on Artie, who was sitting across from me. He was chewing obnoxiously loud, his mouth completely stuffed with food. A deep agitation started growing as my eyes zoomed in on him… The way he kept shoveling more and more food in…

Artie smacked his lips and began slurping his drink. He had always eaten like this as a kid. And it wasn't until this profound moment that I found it all to be absolutely repulsive. The way you could hear him churning the food around in his mouth…. Is that drool? I found myself about to explode.

Another glass of scotch appeared before me. I sucked it down for fear I was going to take my knife to Artie's throat. That would stop him from ever eating again!

"Ladies, I just wanted to say thank you for your patience with us. I know this disruption hasn't been easy and we've all had to make adjustments. It won't be that much longer until we have settled matters and we can get back to our normal lives." Mr. Delfino announced from his seat at the head of the table.

"Thank you for your hospitality, Mr. Delfino." Tina quickly responded from her spot next to Artie.

My eyes inadvertently traveled from Tina to Rachel who was sitting quietly beside me. She was silently eating, her eyes fixated on her plate.

Mr. Delfino let out a soft chuckle as his eyes went around the table. "Quinn, when am I going to see you here with a woman?"

Artie spat out his wine as he choked out a laugh.

"I think Artie is doing fine for the both of us." I commented as I took a bite of my steak. At that I could feel Rachel's gaze on me.

Mr. Delfino shook his head and took a sip of his wine. "I can't believe MY son has two women here. He's an idiot! You, you've got personality, smarts, beauty, CHARM… I don't understand- I'm pretty sure women throw themselves at you."

I could feel the heat rising to my face. All I could do was shrug.

"Tell us what you really think DAD!" Artie responded sarcastically.

"Don't worry Mr. Delfino, Quinn's got her whores. She's not lonely." Tina charmed in.

I glanced over at Tina eyeing her with a dark look. "Tina, have you met your replacement yet?" I threw back sharply.

Tina threw a look over at Rachel as if she were a bug. The older Asian woman threw her hair back, squaring her shoulders flatly. "I'm the one with the ring. I'm not going anywhere. She's only here because I have allowed it."

"Don't start Artie." Mr. Delfino huffed out.

"No really? We apparently know that I'm an idiot, what else?" Artie asked, agitation filling his voice.

"I'm not trying to replace you or get in your way." Rachel replied back to Tina.

"As if you could." Tina blared out.

The bickering started clouding the room like a heavy fog. The alcohol started working its way through my system. My mind started fizzling out as I looked around the table. Artie and Mr. Delfino were getting louder and louder with each second. Tina was firing shot after shot at the kid, who was getting red in the face as she attempted to defend herself. TOO LOUD! I couldn't take it anymore….

My fist slammed onto the table roughly, loudly. I stood up. All eyes traveled to me.

"That's enough!" I ordered.

The room quickly went quiet. I threw my napkin onto the table and looked around the room. "The war is out there, not in here." I pointed out. "Right now, we need each other. We need to be united not cutting each other's throats."

The silence continued. No one said a word. Once I had said my peace I walked out. I needed to clear my head. And what I really needed to do was get the image of Artie eating out of my thoughts. That fucking pig… I silently wandered back to the west wing and walked along the hallways mindlessly.

It wasn't long before I ran into the kid along the way. I remembered what she had told me earlier. I respected her wishes and left her alone. I didn't say another word and kept my distance. I went around the back and into the backyard by the pool. The moon was shining light into the darkness. I threw myself down beside the pool and fumbled for a cigarette. The end of the stick lit orange. A trail of white smoke drifted up as I inhaled deeply, thoughtfully. My eyes stared into the dark murky water.

"What's the matter with you?"

I closed my eyes instantly and dropped my head. Why couldn't I just get ONE moment? I threw a lazy glance behind me. The kid. I watched as she walked a little closer but still kept a distance. I turned back to the pool and started unconsciously chewing the end of my cig. What's with this kid? Can't she make up her mind?

"I don't know what you mean." I responded lazily.

"You've been acting strange."

"Haven't I always been strange?" I questioned.

No response.

"Listen kid," I started off, throwing the unfinished cigarette into the pool. I stood to my feet and turned to face her. Her eyes were studying me, waiting expectantly. "I just- I just wanted to say I'm sorry kiddo. I'm sorry about what I said to you that day. I was a real asshole. And you didn't deserve any of that." I whispered the confession.

She wasn't expecting it… You could tell by the way her face drew up tight with shock and some confusion. It was as if someone had dunked ice water over her. She was caught off guard and I could visibly see a shiver rattle down her body.

"And- I" I paused, taking in deep breath. I looked at her with what I hoped was sincerity. "Thank you for helping me, for taking care of me."

She let out a deep breath- Her head exploded

"That's all I wanted to say." I whispered quietly.

I left it at that and silently went back to my room for the night.

It was late at night and I couldn't sleep. The air in my room felt damp and heated. The alcohol was running the end of its course. My mind kept replaying that pool scene over again. Did she believe me? Would she accept my apology? Could she ever forgive me? The sheets felt hot and sticky against my skin. Water- I needed a glass of cold water...

I quietly wandered into the kitchen, finding my way around in the darkness. Once the cool water touched my lips I was rejuvenated. I felt another presence before I heard it. My body instantly went on alert. I stood still and waited. When the presence got closer, I was able to make out the frame of a small woman's body. I already knew it was her before the moonlight revealed. When she noticed me, she stopped. Her eyes were like a beacon, lighting up the dark.

She slowly approached me, quietly, stopping a few feet away from me. My eyes traveled down at the white night gown she was wearing. I could see the tips of her nipples barely popping through. I swallowed heavily as I took a small step closer to her. She didn't move away. I slowly closed the distance leaving no space between us. The air around us began growing warmer.

Her breath splashed across my face. Our eyes were locked in a daring way. Who was going to pull the trigger? I reached out and placed a single finger at the center of her chest. The kid took in a large quiet breath at the contact. I brushed my finger down toward her left breast. She bit her lower lip. My finger slowly and carefully circled around her nipple through the night gown. The nipple grew sharp like a knife. A whimper escaped her lips. Her eyes were growing darker with each circle.

My dick stirred as I boldly reached underneath her gown and fully rubbed her breast with my hand, rolling her nipple between my fingertips. Another soft noise spewed from her lips. I felt my body start shaking with fervor when her lips roughly claimed me, body and soul. She drew me closer. Our mouths ravenously explored each other with a long deep hunger. Her hands reached for my boxers and boldly pulled me out. I let out a huge groan as her hands started pumping me hard and fast.

The fire was burning me alive. I couldn't breathe. With each flick of her tongue, it drove me further into madness. I quickly lifted her up against the counter. Her legs wrapped around me. I lifted the edges of her night gown and greedily slipped my hand underneath. She wasn't wearing any underwear. My fingers slipped through her folds. She let out a loud moan as I swirled my fingers around, feeling how wet she was. A frenzy was taking over me as….

CRASHHH!

We both froze. My eyes immediately shifted to where the noise came from. A vase had broken. I was barely able to catch the shapes of several different forms. Something wasn't right and instinct kicked in. I quickly grabbed the kid from the countertop and threw us to the ground. A moment later the place lit up as bullets came flying around us. Cabinets cracked open and glass shattered into pieces around the kitchen.

I wrapped my arms around the kid as the bullets rained above us. When the bullets ran dry I yelled at the kid to run. I quickly grabbed a knife and marched out. A frame came into view dressed in all black. An arm reached out to strike me in the face. I dodged it with ease and forced the knife into their throat. A loud gurgling noise erupted as I twisted the knife and roughly slid it across their throat. Blood poured out of them as I roughly pulled the knife out. The body fell to the floor with a loud thud. My eyes quickly scanned the room and saw another body. I moved fast and quick towards it.

We both hit the floor roughly. A fist slammed across my face as I hovered above them. I smashed my head into them again and again. For a brief moment he lost his guard. I took advantage and plunged the knife into the center of his chest. I rapidly stabbed him in several different places around his chest. I needed to work fast before they reloaded. I didn't know how many were left. Another round of bullets sprayed out in my direction. I quickly grabbed the dead body and rolled him over using him as a shield. I tried to figure out the trajectory of where the shots were coming from.

Just as quickly as the firing started it ended abruptly. And all went quiet. I breathed out heavily and waited for a moment. Nothing but silence. I rolled out from underneath the dead guy and looked around. The lights turned on. Rachel stood by the counter with a gun in her hand. You could see the smoke trailing from the end of it, still hot to the touch. I looked around. There were five bodies on the other side of the room. I looked over at the kid in shock.

"You took them out?"

She looked at me sternly. She shook her head and carefully tossed the gun over to me. "No, you did." She corrected.

I looked at her with confusion. Footsteps came running down the hallway. Voices were shouting. I went on alert and was ready for round two.

"Clear!" came the call.

The other body guards came rushing in. I lowered the gun. Artie and Mr. Delfino came in after the guards. The guards rushed past us and went to clear the other rooms. The kid ran to Artie and threw herself into him. She started putting on the water works. I watched the interaction with odd curiosity.

"Thank god you're alright." Mr. Delfino announced as he rushed over and gave me a firm hug. "Good work here Quinn."

I glanced around the room. There were seven bodies all dressed in black and were wearing ski masks. Who the hell wears ski masks anymore? A majority of the bodies were carrying automatic rifles minus the one I could see who had a shotgun.

My eyes momentarily flicked back to the kid and then back to the bodies. Something didn't sit right with me. Something was off and I couldn't put a finger to it. Artie started pulling Rachel down the hallway into the east wing. When she looked back at me there wasn't any trace of tears.

"Clean this mess up." Mr. Delfino ordered as the guards came back in.

"Wait!" I ordered. "No one touches anything until I'm done."

Mr. Delfino nodded in approval. You could tell he was shaken up. He didn't show it but you could feel it coming off of him. He left wordlessly, some of the other guards following him.

I pulled a cigarette out and plopped it into my mouth. It's time to get to work.

My eyes scanned the room looking around at the bodies. I could clearly see the two men I killed. They were both drowning in a pool of blood. A small little smile crept onto my face, silently enjoying my work. A piece of chunky flesh was bulging out from one of the guy's throats. Not too shabby!

I walked over and pulled the masks off their face. Two males in their mid 30's. I didn't recognize them. More 'nobodies' who were just hired. I checked their pockets. Nothing. I huffed out a smoke and slowly made my way over to the other bodies. My eyes casually ran over them, thoughtfully. Odd… There's not much blood. Poor kid- Probably didn't know what she was doing or what she was aiming at. Just firing out rounds in hopes that she could hit them. I'm not even sure how she was able to hit anything. But she did! She was definitely lucky tonight.

I pulled the mask off the first guy. My eyes immediately spotted the plug in between his head. Huh? A headshot? A wave of disbelief hit me. "Lucky shot kid." I muttered.

He had nothing on him either. I suspected I probably wasn't going to find anything on them but I needed to be sure and thorough. When the second mask was pulled off my eyes fixated to the forehead. An eerie feeling started crawling through my skin at the sight. Another bullet to the head. My heart started racing with anticipation as I quickly removed the rest of their masks.

My mind went blank as I stared at all five bodies. One bullet to the head each. Nothing more. Nothing less. I stared at them in awe and disbelief. This work was done with precision and accuracy that was rare. My shooting wasn't all that good… But this? This was done by someone who had years of training and experience.

I shook my head and quickly inspected all the windows in the room. There was no trace of outside help. I could feel my hands shaking with a newfound nervousness as I pulled out the gun. I inspected it, my eyes growing larger by the second. I know every gun I owned by heart. This wasn't mine. In fact, you could tell this was specifically customized and modified for the owner. Based on the way the grip felt this was for someone who had small hands.

Where did the gun come from? She didn't have this on her…

I checked around the area where I last saw her standing. Sure enough I found the casings all grouped together. Only five, probably fired back-to-back. In the dark… she did it all in the dark…

A mixture of emotions ran through me, startling me. I couldn't help but feel- dare I say it? Admiration? Pride? Jealousy? Suspicion? Yessss Suspicion… It was crawling all over my skin.

This was the work of a professional. I started chewing on the end of my cig only to find it was gone. I quickly looked around the room and found it lifelessly on the floor. I stared down at it with another round of disbelief. I must have dropped it.

The kid… No, that's not right anymore. Rachel Berry… What is she?

Is she working for someone? If so, who? My mind started working- Her getting good with me and Artie. Getting herself planted here. It can't be a coincidence can it? Is she after someone? Mr. Delfino? Me? Is she trying to take ALL of us down? Is she working for Davenport?

I fired up another cig, my eyes glowing with something I had never felt before. My hands were covered in blood. So are hers…

Rachel Berry… Who are you?
