Disclaimer: I don't own Spyro.

"Na na na na na!"

Spyro stopped in his tracks, his ears perking up from the voice which had suddenly jeered at him from nearby. An irritated look crossed the little purple dragon's face. He recognised that annoying voice only too well.

"It's a Dragon Egg Thief!" he called to Sparx, looking around urgently for his target.

Sure enough, Spyro spotted one of the most common enemies he dealt with standing nearby. There stood a thief, dressed in a blue hat and robes. The only parts of his facial features which were visible were his narrowed eyes and wicked grin. He was cackling and chanting mockingly at the dragon - with an egg clutched in his hands.

Not wasting a second, Spyro charged towards the thief with Sparx flying alongside him.

The thief stopped laughing. He let out a panicked cry upon seeing the dragon coming after him before starting to race away with the egg.

"C'mere you!" Spyro called. "I'll torch ya!"

The thief ran as fast as he could from his purple pursuer. He firmed his tight hold on his prize. There was no way a crafty crook like himself was going to let anyone take this precious egg from him. Especially not such a small dragon.

Spyro was sprinting with every bit of speed he had in his little body. For a little dragon, he happened to be very fast. He was just about able to keep up with his moving target, yet the thief managed to stay ahead of his horns. Charging at him to rescue the egg was not going to be another option.

Realising there was going to be only one way to stop this pest, Spyro took a deep breath, then let out a shower of golden flames straight at the thief.

"YOUCH!"

The thief howled in pain from being scorched intensely by the little dragon. He stopped running and let go of the egg to fall onto his back. A groan of defeat escaped him before his body completely vanished from sight.

"You did it, Spyro!" Sparx buzzed elatedly.

Spyro grinned proudly. He knew there was no thief in all the Dragon Worlds that could outrun him. He peered towards the Dragon Egg he had saved. Now free from the thief's clutches, it was hovering in the air, floating down towards his face.

It was at that moment when Spyro's face fell as he took a close look at the egg. His broad smile disappeared as a look of shock filled his scaly features.

"This isn't a dragon egg!" he exclaimed. "It's a chocolate egg!"

"A chocolate egg?" Sparx buzzed disbelievingly.

Spyro raised his front paws to hold the egg before him. His widened eyes took in how it was made of chocolate while his nose picked up the sweet smell coming from it. There was no way an egg like this had come from any dragon.

"What am we gonna do with this?"

No sooner had Spyro asked himself the question than a smile returned to his face. He gazed up at Sparx. He could tell from the golden dragonfly's bright expression that he was thinking the same idea as he was.

"Well…" Spyro said, splitting the egg into two halves. "We did stop that thief from getting away with this egg. We may as well treat ourselves with it, pal…"

Sparx nodded agreeably. A chocolate egg would make a nice change to eat than butterflies. Maybe getting a sugar rush would make him even stronger to protect his buddy.

Spyro was just offering one half to Sparx and about to bite into the other - when both pieces suddenly melted in his paws. The heat of the dragon's fiery breath when he had toasted the thief had been too much for the chocolate egg. Both halves turned into a sloppy mess, leaving the two friends with nothing to enjoy together.

Dismay filled Spyro and Sparx's faces. They stared at the dragons paws which were stained with chocolate. It was all that left of the egg they'd recovered from the thief - only to lose it anyway.

"Well, Sparx…" Spyro shrugged with a sheepish grin. "That sure was un-egg-spected!"

"Oh, Spyro…" Sparx sighed, not amused in the slightest as he shook his tiny head. "You purple putz…"
