Elliot was sitting in the living room with a book in hand, while Lizzie and Dickie insisted on talking about dinner. "Daddy, can we have sushi tonight?" Dickie asked, his voice full of hope.
Lizzie agreed, with a radiant smile. "Please, Daddy! We love sushi, and Livie does too, right?"
Elliot frowned and closed the book. "You know I'm not a fan of sushi," he said, looking from one to the other. "Besides, raw fish isn't very safe for you guys."
Olivia, who was passing by the room, heard the conversation and smiled at the children. "I like sushi too, Elliot. Maybe we can go to a sushi restaurant tonight. It's a fun experience for them."
Elliot sighed, realizing he was in the minority. "Okay," he agreed reluctantly. "But I'll keep an eye on what you eat."
At the restaurant, the kids were excited, pointing to different sushi dishes on the menu. Olivia smiled as she watched them, but she rolled her eyes at Elliot's disgusted faces. She ate everything she wanted.
After dinner, they returned home satisfied. The kids went to bed without trouble, which was a win. However, during the night, Olivia began to feel unwell. She woke up feeling nauseous and ran to the bathroom. Elliot got up worried and followed her.
"Olivia, are you okay?" he asked, a look of concern in his eyes.
"I don't feel well," she replied, holding her stomach.
Elliot helped her lie down again, while he tried to figure out what could have caused her discomfort. "Was it the sushi? Or something else?"
Olivia nodded, but something seemed different. "Maybe it was the sushi... But that's weird, I don't usually feel like this." She snuggled up closer to him, trying to seek some kind of confort. He ran his hand into her hair until she fell into an uneasy sleep.
Olivia woke up the morning after her sushi dinner feeling even worse. She felt dizzy and persistently nauseous and knew something was very wrong. Even though she was reluctant, she decided that it would be best to go to the doctor to find out why she was feeling unwell.
"Benson?" the nurse called. She slowly got up and made her way to the room.
She made sure to tell the doctor all her symptoms and explained that she thought it was food poisoning. The doctor recommended a series of tests to find out the cause of the symptoms. She took a lot more time than she expected. Olivia sat in the waiting room of the doctor's office, nervous and anxious as she waited for her test results. She couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong, even if she couldn't quite put her finger on it.
Finally, the nurse called her back. The doctor entered right after, holding a folder with the test results. He had a serious expression on his face, which only increased Olivia's anxiety.
"Olivia, I have your test results," the doctor said, sitting across from her. "There has been a surprising discovery."
Olivia held her breath, preparing herself for the worst. "What was found?" she asked, her voice shaking.
The doctor sighed before answering. "Olivia, the results show that you are pregnant."
The news hit Olivia like a punch in the stomach. She was stunned, unable to fully process what she had just heard. Pregnant? That couldn't be true. She took her contraceptive religiously, following all the doctor's instructions.
"This can't be right," Olivia muttered, her mind spinning with confusion. "I take my birth control every day. How did this happen?"
The doctor nodded understandingly. "I understand your confusion, Olivia. But unfortunately, contraceptive methods are not 100% effective. If you are having unprotected sex, it's a possibility. There are rare cases where pregnancy can occur despite correct contraceptive use."
Olivia felt a mixture of emotions pass through her. She was shocked, confused and, most of all, scared about what this meant for her life.
"What do I do now?" she asked, looking to the doctor for guidance.
The doctor explained her options, mentioning the possibility of terminating the pregnancy or considering other alternatives. But Olivia knew immediately what she wanted to do.
"There's only one option for me," she said, her voice steady despite the turmoil of her emotions. "I want to have this baby."
The doctor nodded, understanding Olivia's decision. "I understand, Olivia. I'll be here to support you every step of the way."
As she left the doctor's office, Olivia felt a mixture of fear and determination. She didn't want this to happen yet and remembered the conversation she had with Elliot a little over a year ago. She knew their lives were about to change in ways she couldn't even begin to comprehend, but she also felt a deep sense of gratitude and love for the little miracle that was growing inside her. She just hoped Elliot felt that way too.
She opened the door automatically. Elliot greeted her, but she didn't respond. Elliot immediately noticed that something was troubling Olivia. He walked towards her with concern in his eyes. "Liv, are you okay? You look like you've seen a ghost," he asked, taking her hand in his.
Olivia tried to smile, but she was visibly shaken. "Elliot, you know I went to the doctor today to find out why I'm feeling unwell," she said, trying to find the right words.
"Is something wrong?" He asked, scared.
"I'm pregnant, Elliot." She blurted out.
Elliot's eyes opened in surprise. "Pregnant? Are you pregnant even though you're on birth control? How is that possible?"
Olivia nodded, fighting back the tears that threatened to spill. "The doctor explained that sometimes birth control isn't 100% effective. He mentioned a few possible reasons for this, but it's still a shock to me."
Elliot pulled her into a comforting hug, feeling her tension. "I know it's a surprise, but this is a blessing. We'll deal with this together, Olivia. You're already an amazing mother to Dickie and Lizzie, I'm sure you'll be a wonderful mother to our baby too."
Olivia finally allowed herself to cry, bursting into tears while in Elliot's arms. Her worries about her ability to be a mother again slowly dissipated with Elliot's reassuring words.
"I just want you to know that I'm with you in this, and we will find a way to deal with this. You already take such good care of Dickie and Lizzie, that I know you will be a great mother to our baby. I'm so happy with this news," Elliot said, his voice full of emotion. She nodded into his chest.
He looked at her. "Oh my God!"
"What?" she asked, cleaning the tears from her cheeks. He beamed at her.
"We made a baby!" He exclaimed, exuberantly.
"We did," she smiled too. "You and your damn super sperm."
"Nothing stops the swimmers, babe."
