In the multiverse of Sonic the Hedgehog, there are many variations of the single blue hedgehog many know as Sonic. Variations where the world he is in are different from others, either ruled completely by the tyrannical Dr. Robotnik or freed with seldom attacks from the silly Dr. Eggman. Sometimes, these worlds include a Sonic that is different from one another in some way - some wear costumes, some are bad guys, some… where he never existed… In one universe out of the possible billions of others lies one universe where a single change occurs…

What If Sonic was a Girl?

Planet Mobius, a world known for its precious greenery and blue oceans, is currently in the midst of a war. For many years, two species had long co-existed together in relative harmony until recently; the Overlanders, descendants of humans who retained their general shape, and the Mobians, a species of animal that evolved beyond who they were many ages ago. During this war, a woman hedgehog, Bernadette Hedgehog, had given birth to a young, healthy baby girl. Even in times of war, there are still reasons to smile. However, during one tragic day, her husband, Jules Hedgehog, had been critically injured by Overlander forces, resulting in his near death. Sir Charles Hedgehog, a royal scientist and Jules' brother, constructed a tool for medicine in hopes of saving Jules' life. It worked… too well… Despite his intentions, Charles' experiment resulted in a mindless robot, shaped like his former brother. And worse yet, Bernadette would soon disappear, leading to their newly born daughter being an orphan. Shame and regret would follow as Charles leaves his life as a scientist behind…

Voice: "Yo, Uncle Chuck!"

Charles, now a few years older with a graying mustache, is startled awake by the sound of a young girl's voice. This voice belonged to his niece, Sonic the Hedgehog; a small blue hedgehog who took a lot of Bernadette's looks, but with Jules as well, with the tuft of blue quills on her forehead going down like bangs. Her outfit could be described as simple - a pair of red short track shorts, a varsity jacket that Charles gave to her during one birthday as a hand-me-down, and a white tank top underneath covering her chest. Charles blinked and smiled at the lass.

Charles: "Sorry, my girl. The heat sometimes is a bit much for an old man like me."

Sonic: "Pfft. You're not that old, Uncle Chuck. I'm just hungry for your chili dogs!"

Charles: "Oh right! Sorry. Must've slipped my mind."

Charles starts getting to work on making his chili dogs, a favorite of Sonic's that the youngling has eaten since her teeth first grew in. As the hedgehog waited, a couple of Mobians walk up. One was an older lady woodchuck with blue hair and noticeable buckteeth; she wore a simple green dress with a matching green sleeveless jacket over it, with equally matching sandals over her feet. With her was a chipmunk girl with long red hair tied by golden rings, wearing a golden tiara with a ruby in the center. She also wore a bright green top and pants, the top being held together by the straps connected to a gold button. Right from the getgo, Sonic could tell the girl was of someone of notable presence just by the way she dressed.

Woodchuck: "Excuse me. I'm sorry if I'm bothering you, sir. But are you Sir Charles?"

Charles paused briefly, but he looked away. Of course some of his closer friends from the Great War could easily guess he was Sir Charles, with even the King knowing what he looked like. But he was never too close to the princess or those with her; he typically kept things strictly business with the royal family. As he was going to answer, Sonic piped up.

Sonic: "He's my Uncle Chuck! And he makes a mean chili dog!"

Woodchuck: "Oh? Is that so, young lady? And what's your name?"

Sonic: "I'm Sonic! Sonic the Hedgehog!"

Woodchuck: "A pleasure to meet you. I am Rosie Woodchuck. And this is her highness, Sally Acorn."

Sonic hopped off her seat, approaching Sally a bit with a look of curiosity.

Sally: "Ahem… Hi. I'm Sally. It's not often I'm approached by-"

Sonic: "Boop."

Sonic boops Sally on the nose, causing her to pause and process what happened. Once she realizes, she blinks.

Sally: "Hey! What was that for?"

Sonic: "What? I thought you had a boop-able nose. You were all stiff and stuff that I thought a boop would break ya."

Sally: "What logic does that-"

Sonic boops her nose again. This time Sally got a bit annoyed… until she booped, then flicked Sonic's nose.

Sally: "How's that for stiff?"

Rosie: "Sally. Don't be rude. And young lady, don't-"

Sonic: "Hah! That was great, but I bet you can't do that again!"

Sally: "Watch me!"

Sonic starts running off, kicking up a bit of dust from how fast she ran. Sally was shocked by the speed in which Sonic ran, but this only seemed to excite her more. She gave chase to the speedy hedgehog, Rosie is taken aback by the display of rebelliousness from Sonic… but Charles simply laughed.

Charles: "Don't mind her. She's been like that since as long as I've known her."

Rosie: "But that was awfully… Oh, I guess kids will be kids…"

Rosie walks up and sits down, being ever the polite woman.

Rosie: "So is that your daughter or…?"

Charles: "Niece… My brother's daughter… He…"

Charles put the hot dog in a bun before putting some chili on it. But even as he did so, a look of sorrow formed.

Charles: "I know Sonic may not seem like much… Maybe even less than what you probably expected… But she is a good young lass. Of that, I can promise you."

Rosie: "...Considering who raised her, I can believe it. And I will be the first to admit, it isn't too often I see the princess smile and laugh like that…"

Rosie says, looking over with Charles as they see Sonic avoiding Sally, but Sally finding some way to outsmart her, showing a budding friendship between the two.

A year would pass after this first meeting. During this time, Sonic would come to meet Rotor Walrus and Antoine D'Coolette, the latter being the son of one Armand D'Coolette. Though they met under different circumstances, they all bonded together as a rebellious bunch. Antoine though… He was a stickler towards Sonic, finding her to be a ruffian with no tact. However, a fifth member of their friend circle would be born - Miles "Tails" Prower. As Sonic held him, she had a good feeling that they would get along, with the blue hedgehog promising to be a good older sister to the newborn.

But all good times are never meant to last…

On the same day as Tails' birth, at night… A sudden explosion suddenly wakes Sonic up from her sleep, waking Charles as well.

Sonic: "What was that!?"

Sonic ran to the window as she looked out, seeing Castle Acorn with smoking coming out of it. A swarm of strange looking robots filled the streets of Mobotropolis with many of its citizens in absolute panic. Intermixed with the humanoid robots were robots that resembled Mobians, but made of metal. Charles soon came into Sonic's room, rushing to her side.

Sonic: "Uncle Chuck! What's going on!?"

Charles: "I don't know, my girl… But we need to evacuate now!"

Sonic: "But I can't leave without my friends!"

Charles sees Sonic leap out of the window and dash through the streets, becoming a blur in an instant.

Charles: "Sonic! Wait! Urgh… Darn it, lass…"

As Charles ran out of his home, Rosemary Prower ran by, holding a crying baby Tails in her arms. She is seen panting, having ran in a mad panic to reach the Hedgehog estate.

Rosemary: "Charles! Please, I must find my husband! Please take Miles out of here!"

Charles: "But… Sonic…"

Charles stared up at Castle Acorn, a worried look on his face before he looked down at the baby Tails. He accepted responsibility, gently taking Tails off Rosemary's hands. The female fox thanks Charles before running off to find her husband. Though he hated doing so, he had no choice but to leave without Sonic, hoping she would be okay…

Charles: "It's okay, little one… Sonic will be okay… We'll all be…"

He was saying this more to himself than anyone else.

Within Castle Acorn, King Acorn was captured by two of the strange robots that had suddenly invaded his kingdom. Gritting his teeth, he sees as the culprit of this attack reveals himself - a large rotund bald man with a length orange red mustache wearing an outfit split into four segments by yellow outlines, the top half being red while the bottom half was black. The king glared at the man as he shouted at him.

King Acorn: "Warlord Julian!? What is the meaning of this outrage!? Are these robots your doing!?"

"Julian": "An astute observation, my liege. Indeed, what you are witnessing is a product of my genius. As of today, Mobius is under new management!"

King Acorn: "Why, Julian!? After years of peace, why now do you betray the ones who brought you in!?"

"Julian" smiled as he looked the king in the eyes, his black and red eyes giving a very devilish look.

"Julian": "Allow me to correct you, your majesty. I no longer answer to "Julian". I am now Doctor Ivo Robotnik! The ruler of Mobius!"

Robotnik starts to laugh, his voice echoing into the chambers as he activates a portal to the Zone of Silence, tossing the king into it. As the evil soon-to-be ruler of Mobius stared at his evil work, his assistant Snively, a long nose, much shorter Overlander, approached.

Snively: "What of the king's daughter, sir? Surely she will make for a fine addition to your forces."

Robotnik: "An excellent idea, Snively! I'm glad I thought of it. Swatbots! Execute Order 88! The complete conversion of Mobotropolis into Robotropolis!"

Unaware of their presence just higher above, Sally Acorn with her nanny Rosie had both witnessed King Acorn's banishment and Robotnik's betrayal. Sally had her hands over mouth as she began to cry. Rosie, however, had to stay strong for the sake of the only remaining lineage of the royal family.

Rosie: "Come along, Sally. We shall meet with Julayla and leave as quickly as we can…"

Sally: "B-But what about Daddy…?"

Rosie couldn't answer. She simply gripped Sally's hand tightly as she quickly and quietly moved out of the chambers before Robotnik noticed them. As they made it to the halls, the robots were seen fighting with the royal guards of Mobotropolis, the latter trying to fend them off the best they could. As a soldier was pinned down and about to be blasted, a rock hits the robot's visor. Julayla stood from a distance, having thrown the rock.

Julayla: "Soldiers of Mobotropolis! Defend the royal family as best as you can! Make sure they make it out of the city in one piece!"

She then notices Rosie and Sally, but no King Acorn, as the two ran up to her.

Julayla: "Cousin! Princess! Wh-Where is King Acorn?"

Rosie: "There is no time to explain… But he's gone. We need to leave while we still have a chance!"

Julayla looked at Sally, nodding to Rosie as they quickly ran down the halls. But as they ran, Sally soon heard something…

Scared Child's Voice: "AAAAIIIEEEEE!"

Sally: "A-Antoine!?"

Sally quickly split off from Rosie and Julayla, much to their horror, as she ran down a different hall than the one they intended. In the corner of this hall, Antoine stood with a cutlass drawn, his legs shaking as he was surrounded by the invading robots.

Antoine: "S-Stay back, y-you fiendz… I-I can be very z-zcary if I n-need to!"

Sally soon spots this scene, quickly looking around for whatever she could to help Antoine with. She finds a Mobian knight's helmet from a hallway display on the floor and lifts it up. The weight was certainly more than she expected, but with a heave, the helmet flies to bang one of the robots in the head.

Sally: "Hey! Leave my friend alone!"

The robots turn their attention to the princess as a few started to open fire on her. She dodges the lasers until one struck the ground next to her, exploding that ground and knocking Sally off her feet. As the robots walked up to finish the job, in a quick flash, the robot exploded into parts as a blue blur appeared. Sally and Antoine's eyes widen as the other robots were soon given a similar treatment - trashed and dismantled into scrap metal. Their savior soon lands, offering a hand to Sally.

Sonic: "Sorry I'm late; traffic outside is awful."

Sally: "...Thank you, Sonic. Truly."

Sally accepts Sonic's hand as Rosie and Julayla round the corner, surprised by what they saw - the robots were destroyed. But by the young hedgehog? Rosie was finding that hard to believe, but Julayla had a different perspective.

Sonic: "Yo, Twan! Are you okay?"

Antoine: "Z-Ze legs… Zey c-cannot move…"

Sally: "We can't leave him, Sonic…"

Sonic: "Wasn't planning on it."

Julayla approached and quickly lifted Antoine into her arms.

Julayla: "We mustn't delay, children. We must head to Knothole Village right away."

Sonic: "Knothole?"

Sally: "It's a secure part of the Great Forest. A hideaway during war times. Once we're there, we can sort out the situation."

Sonic: "Say no more! Let's make like a root and beet it!"

Sonic led the charge out of the castle, with Sally, Rosie, and Julayla holding Antoine following her as quickly as they could. Thanks to Sonic's speed, the robots couldn't catch the hedgehog as she tore through any that stood in their way. Before long, the group managed to escape from Mobotropolis and into the dense forest nearby with several others from the city joining them.

There was an air of calm as Charles sat with Rotor, whom had escaped with him when the attack on Mobotropolis wasn't as treacherous, as the young baby Tails slept in the old man's arms. Charles kept very calm, but he was internally cursing himself for leaving Sonic. But his patience would soon be rewarded; several other civilians were beginning to enter the village, among them being Sonic, Sally, Rosie, Julayla, and Antoine.

Sonic: "Uncle Chuck! We made it!"

Charles: "Sonic! You're alive!"

Sonic: "Of course! I ain't ready to kick the bucket - except for a bucket o' bolts!"

But then a horrifying realization washed over Charles as he looked at those that joined Sonic. Where was Amadeus and Rosemary…? Unfortunately, they - among many others that were still in the city - would be lost in one way or another. A dark overcast covered the skies above the morning sun slowly began to rise in the horizon…

A few years would pass as Sonic and her friends, now slightly older kids, would help the people of Mobotropolis rebuild after the crisis that had occurred. To them, it seemed like a bad dream as they found reason to smile, especially with Tails, now five years old, growing to be a healthy young boy. Charles opted to live outside the village rather than in it, though would run a chili dog stand within the village for those needing a good snack. Time in Knothole Village was rather uplifting and peaceful, though all of them knew that such things could not last. Not as long Robotnik was ruling their former home with a literal iron fist. On one particular day though, fortune would smile upon Sonic and her friends…

Sonic: "Are you sure he went this way, Rotor?"

Rotor: "With my calculations, I have no doubts, Sonic."

Antoine: "Remind me again why eet was a good idea to think Tails would fly?"

Sonic: "Hey, it was to help the little guy feel more involved! I was just trying to help!"

Sally: "I get the gesture, Sonic. But remember that Tails is much younger than us."

Rotor: "Let's see… He should be right around… here?"

The group find a strange stump quite a ways from Knothole Village. The stump had an opening on top and a voice coming out. It was Tails!

Sonic: "Tails! Hey, bud! Are you in there?"

They hear a very faint voice emanate from the stump. Everyone looked at each other with confusion until they suddenly felt the ground shift. A collective 'uh oh' was uttered before they fell through. They landed in a sort of cave under the stump, with Tails brushing himself off.

Sally: "Tails! Are you okay?"

Tails: "Y-Yeah… I'm still a bit dizzy though… I tried to control myself in the air - and I eventually got a handle on it - but I got tired and landed on the stump… But then I fell through…"

Antoine: "Quite un spacious place… I 'ope no bears live down here…"

Rotor: "I don't think anything's lived here in a long time… Maybe we can use this place as a clubhouse."

As Sally checks out the place, a different idea dawns on her. Looking at the stump above, almost like a spotlight shining on her.

Sally: "No. Not a clubhouse - a secret hideout."

Rotor: "Uh?"

Sally: "This might sound crazy guys, but… I'm tired of hiding away in Knothole, expecting the threat of Robotnik to just pass. We all know he'll eventually find us. And then what? I say… While we have the element of surprise, we work to take back our home from him. Who's in?"

Sally looked at her friends expectedly, but no one spoke up… at first. Who else would rise to the occasion than Sonic herself?

Sonic: "Stick it to the man? Oh yeah, you bet I'm in!"

Antoine: "You've got to be crazy! You're fighting een a loseeng fight!"

Tails: "Nuh uh! I'm with Sonic! Together, if we work hard enough, we can beat back that mean ol' Robotnik!"

Antoine and Rotor stared at each other, then back at their friends. Rotor then just shrugs.

Rotor: "I'll offer whatever I have. Come what may, I'm in till the end."

Everyone looked at Antoine, hoping he'd join. He just lets out a sigh…

Antoine: "Fine… I'm een too… But just zo we're clear, this plan eez crazy…"

Sally: "It'll be fine, Antoine. Together, we stand… Not just as childhood friends… But as Freedom Fighters."

Sonic: "Hehe. I like it! You better look out, Robotnik!"

The five friends raise their fists into the sky, signing an unspoken oath - to fight for freedom and the downfall of Robotnik! To fight for Mobius!

Present day, as Robotnik leads an army of Badniks on an attack against the Great Forest…

Robotnik: "Go, my metallic minions! Go and find Knothole Village! I want that place torn down and all its citizens captured!"

…his Egg Mobile is attacked by a speeding hedgehog, who bounces off the floating vehicle as she lands. Having long ditched her jacket after the attack on Mobotropolis, Sonic stood a fit, lean, and older hedgehog, smiling as she pointed a finger out at the mad doctor.

Sonic: "Sorry, tubby! But your invasion's canceled!"

Robotnik: "Sonic the Hedgehog! Hah! Try as you might, even you aren't strong enough to handle this army of my finest alone!"

Sally: "And that's where you underestimate us!"

A series of explosions occur on the Badniks, causing Robotnik to panic as Sally runs in, standing beside Sonic with her slingshot on hand. Rotor waddles his way to his friends as Tails swoops in and delivers a punching fly-by to Robotnik.

Rotor: "Ugh… I need to work out more… I am not used to running out this far…"

Tails: "You could always try flying."

Rotor: "That's a 'you' thing, buddy…"

Antoine soon joins them, holding his cutlass out at the robots.

Antoine: "Sacre bleu, Sonic… Do you know zee definition of 'not rushing een'?"

Sonic: "Oh I know it, Twan. I just never cared for it."

Antoine just rolls his eyes as Sonic looks to Sally with a smile.

Sonic: "So you want to do the honors, princess?"

Sally: "Sooo lady-like… Freedom Fighters! Charge!"

With that signal, the group charge forward, Sonic taking the lead as she jumps towards the doctor. And thus the battle for Mobius… begins.

Sonic the Hedgehog (Real Name: Olivia Aleev Hedgehog)

One of the founding members of the Freedom Fighters with her friends, Sonic is the brave, sometimes hotheaded, leader. A foil to Sally, Sonic is typically one to charge into a fight, relying on her skill and luck on the battlefield to get things done. But she isn't without some wit of her own as well. She enjoys attention at times, but she has a strong disliking to flirting. Her trademark favorite food (a staple of any Sonic!) is chili dogs of course!

Princess Sally Alicia Acorn
Age: 15
Rank: Co-Leader with Sonic

The default leader of the Freedom Fighters, Sally fights against Robotnik's tyranny for more personal reasons than Sonic. But never one to let emotions dictate her decisions, she approaches most situations that can't be solved with brute strength with logic and a sound mind. She sees Sonic as a very close and dear friend as Sonic's casual nature despite her royalty status helped her open up a little bit. They are just friends though.

Miles "Tails" Prower
Age: 10
Rank: Youngest Freedom Fighter

A high spirited young fox kit, Miles Prower, or Tails as his friends call him on account of his two tails, is the youngest of the Freedom Fighters. Despite being a kid, he wants to be treated the same as his older peers. His relationship with Sonic is probably the strongest beyond a doubt, with the hedgehog there to support her younger bro. Tails does state he has a small crush on Sonic, but tries to keep his boundaries. What a good boy!

Rotor Walrus
Age: 16
Rank: Technicians Expert

Rarely one for the field, but a great help at any time, Rotor acts as the ever reliable "techy guy" of the group. A very chill and down to earth guy, Rotor's knowledge on machinery has led him to rival even Robotnik in terms of brilliance. But like any great genius, some of his inventions do have a tendency to backfire somehow.

Antoine D'Coolette
Age: 18
Rank: Field Officer

The oldest member of the Freedom Fighters, Antoine is the cowardly soldier of the group. Well meaning at times, Antoine is a lad who aspired to be a soldier like his father was before him. Carrying his cutlass and uniform as a reminder of his father, he fights with his friends against Robotnik. He has a certain disdain for Sonic, but it's not made clear why that is.
