Earth. Our planet. A world in which life has thrived for hundreds and millions of years, giving birth to all kinds of creatures, including the most famous creatures of all: Dinosaurs. These prehistoric reptiles have lived from the Mid Triassic Period 230 million years ago to their unfortunate demise in the Late Cretaceous Period 65 million years ago, and their existence have captured the fascination of people around the entire world. The only traces to the existence of Dinosaurs lay in fossil evidence such as their bones, or their footprints, preserved for millions of years within the ground beneath our feet. Paleontologists have found records of these creatures all over the planet, and it left many to wonder what life was back then.
Since their discovery, dinosaurs have only lived in the imagination of people's minds. However, one man had a dream, a dream that turned into an idea. What if dinosaurs could live again? What if there was a way to bring them back from extinction? What if there was a way for people to truly experience dinosaurs up close? This was John Hammond's dream, and he was determined to see it become a reality. As the CEO of InGen (International Genetics Incorporated), a bioengineering company dedicated to research in resurrecting extinct animals, he found a way to bring dinosaurs back to life and began development of a zoological tourist attraction on a remote island acquired from the government of Costa Rica, intended for people around the world to witness these living, breathing prehistoric reptiles up close.
In addition to six guests visiting this dinosaur theme park, there is another special visitor joining them for this incredible island adventure: Devon, a young hero on his journey to become the Legendary Keyblade Master for the Mark of Mastery in an epic battle of Light vs. Darkness. His duty: to keep the worlds and its inhabitants safe from danger.
However, in his excitement for the worldwide attraction, John Hammond could not foresee that his dream, as wonderful as it sounds, would have disastrous consequences. What happens when the dinosaurs break free of control? And what happens when a tour at an amazing theme park turns deadly?
(Jurassic World)
Isla Nublar
120 miles west of Costa Rica
Our story begins on a dark night in the jungles of Isla Nublar, an island owned by InGen for use as a theme park. A group of InGen employees stood around in a clearing near the jungle entrance, staring out into the trees as if they were expecting something to come out. Each of these men wore dark blue jumpsuits and an orange hardhat. On the front of their hats and embroidered on the left-shoulder of their uniforms was a logo: a black t-rex skeleton silhouette with its body from left to right, towering over a jungle silhouette inside a yellow circle. There was also a black rectangular bar at the bottom, circular border, and white tribal letters with red inner lines written with two words: "JURASSIC PARK". Most of these workers were armed with electric prongs, while some were equipped with M16 rifles fitted with underbarrel flashlights, equipment used when dealing with dangerous animals.
Also with the InGen employees was the person in charge: Robert Muldoon, Jurassic Park's game warden and a skilled hunter. Grim-faced, fortyish and British, he was a cautious man with short brown hair and pale blue eyes, wearing a tan stetson felt cowboy hat, a tan safari vest with a white short-sleeved shirt underneath, a black watch on his left-wrist, light gray cargo shorts, high white socks, and dark brown safari boots, which made him stick out amongst the workers. In his hands was his preferred weapon of choice: the SPAS-12 shotgun.
Suddenly, there's some rustling in the fern-like trees of the jungle, which grew louder and louder by the second, indicating that something very, very large was approaching. It's a forklift, plowing through the trees and into the clearing, bringing forth a large metal crate. The workers shout orders to the driver of the forklift and to each other in both English and Spanish.
"Everybody, heads up! Heads up! Keep it clear!" Man #1 shouts
"Ándale! Si! Vamonos! (Hurry up! That's it! Let's go!)" Man #2 shouts in Spanish
The crate was being transported to an impressive, reinforced paddock in the clearing, a holding pen designed for containment of one specific type of dinosaur: Velociraptors. There was a staff viewing area, a long walkway on both sides of the concrete structure, a guard tower at the rear of the pen, and an electric, five-bar fencing that surrounded the cage. The entire area of the paddock was illuminated by floodlights from the guard tower and multiple lamps set around the perimeter. Two workers guided the driver of the forklift to the Raptor Pen through hand signals. One stood at the front of the pen, waving both hands, while the other stood off to the right, waving his right-hand.
"That's good, stay! Slow it down!" Man #1 shouts
"Cuidado! A ver, tráiganla, tráiganla! (Careful! Come on, bring her in, bring her in!)" Man #2 shouts in Spanish
Slowly, the metal crate was lowered into place over a track that led to the entrance of the paddock. From its point of view, the Velociraptor observes Muldoon and his team through the slats of its cage, purring and snorting.
"Okay, pushing team, move in there." Muldoon says turning to a group of men behind him on his right and pointing back to the cage with his left thumb
"Empujen! Cuidado. Vamos, vamos! (Push! Careful. Go, Go!) Man #2 says
Eight workers approach the crate and take their positions with four men on both sides of the container.
"I want tasers on full charge!" Muldoon says
Just as the loading team grab the cage, a loud, terrifying shriek from the Velociraptor frightens the workers, forcing them to step away, and the crate shakes for a bit.
"Steady! Go on. Step back in." Muldoon says
"Move it!" Man # 1 shouts
"Adelante, empujen! Empujen! (Let's go, push! Push!) Man #2 shouts in Spanish
Overcoming their fears, the workers step back to the cage and grab its sides.
"And push!" Muldoon says
Slowly, the men push the crate toward the paddock entrance. Along both sides of the entrance were three individual lights, which worked in correspondence with the position of the cage. The first light on the right was red, but as the metal container neared closer to the entrance, the light changes from red to yellow on the left. After six seconds of pushing, the workers manage to bring the crate up to the paddock entrance as it thuds up against the opening. An electronic beep buzzes and the yellow light changes to green on the left, showing that contact has been made.
"We're locked. Loading team, step away." Muldoon says
The eight men move away from the cage and Muldoon calls forward another worker.
"Gatekeeper!" Muldoon calls
A dark-skinned man named Jophrey Brown approaches the crate and climbs up on top using the ladder built onto the side of the container. The Velociraptor gazes up at the InGen employee and snarls.
"Jophrey, raise the gate." Muldoon says
Jophrey squats down, grabbing the gate of the cage with his hands, and slowly pulls it upward. As soon as the gate was raised, the raptor charged with a howling shriek and slammed itself against the back of the cage. The violent movement causes the cage to few meters along the track, knocking down two other workers that were behind it. The gate slams hard into Jophrey, flipping him over to the right and knocking him clear off the container. He falls to the ground, landing flat on his stomach near the opening of the enclosure. Alarm klaxons blare loudly in the area, alerting everyone to the immediate danger. Before Jophrey could recover, the creature grabs him by his ankles and began dragging him into the cage. The man screams and paws the dirt as he's rapidly dragged along the ground, but manages to grab the corner of the container, stopping himself from being pulled in completely. Muldoon rushes to save Jophrey, while the rest of the workers move to subdue the ferocious animal.
"Block the opening! Don't let her get out!" Muldoon shouts
Muldoon grabs Jophrey as he groaned in agonizing pain from the raptor's bite, holding onto the cage with his arms for dear life. The worker grabs onto the built-in ladder with his right-hand to gain more leverage, while the game warden tries to pull him free from the dinosaur's grip. Feeling resistance from the two humans, the Velociraptor pulls on Jophrey even more. Jophrey is dragged even further into the cage, knocking Muldoon down in the process, and is instantly lifted seven feet above the ground, now holding on by his hands. Muldoon quickly gets back up on his feet and grabs onto Jophrey, wrapping his arms around his body.
"Somebody help him!" Man # 3 shouts
"Work her back!" Muldoon shouts
Wild arcs of currents from the electric prongs flash and crack all around the paddock entrance, illuminating the inside of the cage. The security guards and the workers tried desperately to tase the animal into submission with their tools, but their efforts seemed to have barely any effect on the dinosaur. During the struggle, the yellow, reptilian eyes of the Velociraptor and Muldoon's pale blue eyes locked onto each other in an intense staredown. Now Muldoon was down on the ground with his left-arm wrapped around Jophrey's head and his extended right-arm. He was losing the battle against the Velociraptor.
"Help! Aaaah!" Jophrey screams
"Shoot her!" Muldoon shouts
The worker's left-arm slowly began to slip through Muldoon's grip, moving inch by inch as the dinosaur pulled him in.
"Shooot her!" Muldoon shouts
Jophrey's arm continued to slip down to his hand, then his fingers until finally he is pulled from Muldoon's grip completely and dragged into the cage, where he meets his unfortunate demise at the teeth and claws of the Velociraptor.
Mano de Dios Amber Mine
Dominican Republic
Shortly after the raptor attack on Isla Nublar, the family of Jophrey Brown filed a lawsuit against InGen for the death of their beloved family member, which did not bode well for the company. The accident raised some major concerns among investors and insurance underwriters regarding safety in John Hammond's dinosaur theme park. So, in response, a lawyer named Donald Gennaro was sent to undertake an on-site investigation of Isla Nublar to determine the stability of the island.
Gennaro was a lawyer who represented the investors of John Hammond's Jurassic Park, and also the general counsel for InGen. He was a very anxious man in his forties with tan skin, dark brown eyes, and a hundred-dollar haircut of short black hair, wearing a light gray suit, a white undershirt, a red tie, and tan shoes.
Currently, he was out of place. Gennaro was balancing his weight on a raft, being pulled towards an amber mine on a mountainside across a gentle river in the tropical forests of the Dominican Republic. Waiting for him on land were four men. One was a dark-skinned man pulling Gennaro's raft with a long rope, two other men were waiting to catch his raft with a long wooden board for the lawyer to walk across when he lands, and also the proprietor of the mine, who Gennaro was heading over to meet: Juanito Rostagno, a Costa Rican man in his thirties with short black hair, dark brown eyes, and a black mustache, wearing a tan fedora, a tan work shirt, gray work pants, and tan work boots. Juanito sat in a squatting position, holding his hat in his hands and smiling in humor as he watched the lawyer balancing himself on the raft.
"Apuesto mil pesos que se cae. (I bet a thousand pesos that he falls.)" Juanito says in Spanish
Eventually, Gennaro's raft reaches the other side of the river, and he greets his friend with a smile.
"Hola, Juanito!" Gennaro greets extending his left-hand
"Hola, bienvenido. (Hello, welcome.)" Juanito greets in Spanish
The mine proprietor grabs the lawyer's hand and helps across onto ground, then they proceeded to walk toward the mine, where dozens of men claw and scrape at the mountain. The work was all done by hand, pick and shovel.
"What's this I hear at the airport? Hammond's not even here?" Gennaro asks
"He sends his apologies." Juanito says
"We are facing a 20-million-dollar lawsuit by the family of that worker, and you're telling me that Hammond can't even be bothered to see me?" Gennaro says
"He had to leave early. He wants to be with his daughter. She's getting a divorce." Juanito says
"I understand that, but we've been advised to deal with the situation now. The insurance company-" Gennaro says
Gennaro's left-foot slips on the ground and he stumbles forward. Juanito helps him back up.
"You okay?" Juanito says
The two men resumed their walk as Gennaro continued with their conversation.
"The underwriters feel that the accident has raised some very serious questions about the park. That makes the investors very, very anxious. I had to promise to conduct a very thorough on-site inspection." Gennaro says
Juanito stopped and turned back on his left to face Gennaro, a bit disgruntled by the news.
"Hammond hates inspections. They slow everything down." Juanito says shaking his head
"Juanito, they'll pull the funding. That'll slow him down even more." Gennaro says
"¡Jefe, jefe! (Boss, boss!)" A voice calls
Juanito and Gennaro turn to a miner as he came running over with good news for his boss.
"Encontramos otro mosquito." (We've found another mosquito.)" The miner says in Spanish
"Estás seguro? (Are you sure?)" Juanito asks in Spanish
"Si, venga. (Yes, come on.)" The miner says in Spanish nodding his head
"A ver, muéstrame. (Go on, show me.)" Juanito says in Spanish gesturing his right-hand to the miner
Juanito and Gennaro follow the miner into a dark mine, where a few men were picking away at the rock walls with their pickaxes, and the lawyer bangs his head against a low setting wooden beam at the entrance.
"Ooh! Aaah!" Gennaro exclaims
"Watch your head." Juanito says
"If two experts sign off on the island, the insurance guys will back off. I've already got Ian Malcolm, but they think he's too trendy. They want Alan Grant." Gennaro says
The two men walk over to a miner polishing a chunk of fossilized amber and Juanito gestures for the shiny rock with his right-hand.
"Grant? You'll never get him out of Montana." Juanito says glancing over at Gennaro on his left
The miner hands his boss the amber and Juanito's eyes widen in astonishment.
"Luz. Más luz." (Light. More light.)" Juanito says
"Why not?" Gennaro asks
Juanito walks back towards a nearby worker's bench and calls out to the rest of the miners.
"Muchachos, échenme luz! (Guys, give me some light!)" Juanito says
"Why not?" Gennaro asks
Juanito kneels down with Gennaro and holds up the yellow-orange-brown gemstone in his hand as the miners gathered around them, shining their helmet lights down on the amber.
"Because Grant's like me. He's a digger." Juanito says
With light pouring through it, the amber was translucent. And upon a much closer inspection, there was something inside the amber. It was a small insect, a tiny mosquito, long dead for millions of years, perfectly preserved within the gemstone. Juanito chuckles and smiles at the discovery.
"Qué lindo eres." (You're a pretty one.)" Juanito says in Spanish
Badlands
Near Snakewater, Montana
Over in the United States, in the dry, western terrains of Montana, an expedition was underway. The ground was checkered with excavations everywhere. Exposed outcroppings of crumbling limestone stretched out for miles in every direction with not a tree or bush in sight. At the dig site was a base camp with five or six teepees, a flapping mess tent, a few cards, a flatbed truck with wrapped fossils loaded on it, and a mobile home. Dozens of volunteers of all ages worked in various places around the dig from all walks of life, dinosaur buffs. Three or four of them had children with them, and the kids ran around, like in a giant sandbox. Here, a group of diggers was carefully brushing away the sand off the bones of a Velociraptor, one of a four complete skeletons found at the site using camel hairbrushes and their own hands. One of the volunteers, a man, walks up to a nearby hill and calls out to the two people in charge of the dig site, standing at the very top.
"Dr. Grant, Dr. Sattler, we're ready to try again." Man #1 says
Dr. Alan Grant was a world-renowned Paleontologist, a ragged-looking, Caucasian man in his mid-thirties with intense concentration, dedicating his life to digging up dinosaur fossils and studying them. He was 6'0" in height, with blue eyes, and short brown hair, wearing aviator sunglasses, a black and red checkered buttoned shirt, khaki pants with a brown belt, brown boots, and a palm leaf straw hat.
Dr. Ellen "Ellie" Sattler was a Paleobotanist as well as Alan's partner and girlfriend, a feisty, adventurous, loyal and independent Caucasian woman with a kind heart and a sense of humor, standing 5'10" in her twenties, athletic-looking with grey eyes and light blonde hair cut ending at her shoulders, wearing a denim shirt, jeans, and brown leather boots.
"I hate computers." Alan groans
"The feeling's mutual." Ellie says as she gently tied a red bandana around her partner's neck
Ellie and Grant descend down to the dig site and join their volunteers as they stood clustered near one of the small tents. Two volunteers load a lead bullet into a machine called a Thumper, which looked like a floor buffer. One stands on the machine for weight, while the other operates the equipment. Throwing a switch, the thumper hops up a few inches into the air as it blasts the bullet into the earth with tremendous force. A dull thud echoes around the area, and the earth seemed to vibrate.
"You'll get a reading out of that. Take a look." Man #2 says
"Did it work?" Woman #1 asks
All eyes turn to a computer terminal set up on a small table in the tent, its flaps lashed open. Alan takes off his hat and his sunglasses as he and Ellie approached the computer.
"How long does this usually take?" Ellie asks
"It should bring an immediate return. You shoot the radar into the ground, and the bone bounces the image back." Man #3 says
The screen suddenly comes alive with white contour lines tracing down vertically in three waves, pulling up an x-ray image of a fifth complete Velociraptor skeleton.
"This new program's incredible. A few more years' development, and we won't even have to dig anymore." Man #3 says
"Where's the fun in that?" Alan asks feeling positively wounded
"It's a little distorted, but I don't think it's the computer." Man #3 says
"Hmm. Postmortem contraction of the posterior neck ligaments. Velociraptor?" Ellie says pointing to the screen with her left index finger
"Yes. Good shape too. It's five... six feet high. I'm guessing nine feet long. Look at the extraordinary-" Alan says
Alan touches the computer screen with his right index finger, and it flickers.
"What'd you do?" Alan asks
"He touched it." Ellie says smiling in humor
Alan touches the top hood of the computer experimentally and the screen flickers again.
"Dr. Grant's not machine compatible." Ellie laughs
"Hell, they've got it in for me." Alan mutters
The dinosaur skeleton returns back onto the screen and Alan notices something intriguing about fossilized creature.
"Look at the half-moon shaped bones in the wrists. It's no wonder these guys learned how to fly." Alan says pointing to the Velociraptor's claws with his right index finger
The group of volunteers laughed.
"No, seriously. Well, maybe dinosaurs have more in common with present-day birds than they do with reptiles." Alan says turning right to the group behind him
Going back to the image of the Velociraptor on the computer, Alan points his finger to specific areas on the dinosaur's skeleton.
"Look at the pubic bone, turned backward, just like a bird. Look at the vertebrae, full of air sacs and hollows, just like a bird. And even the word 'raptor' means 'bird of prey'." Alan says pointing to the rear and neck of the skeletal Velociraptor
"That doesn't look scary." A small voice says
Everyone turns around and steps aside, looking down at the source of the voice, a young boy named Eddie, who had short brown hair and brown eyes, wearing a black cap, a grey, white, and red-striped shirt, dark grey pants, and white shoes.
"More like a six-foot turkey." Eddie says
The group of volunteers laughs again.
"A turkey, huh?" Alan says grinning
"Oh, no. Here we go..." Ellie says under her breath
Walking towards the bratty child, Alan places his fingers along the sides of his temple, picturing an imaginative scenario.
"Okay. Try to imagine yourself in the Cretaceous Period. You get your first look at this 'six-foot turkey' as you enter a clearing. He moves like a bird, lightly bobbing his head. And you keep still because you think that maybe his visual acuity is based on movement, like T-rex, and he'll lose you if you don't move. But no, not Velociraptor. You stare at him, and he just stares right back. And that's when the attack comes. Not from the front, but from the side." Alan says
Alan holds up his index fingers out to the sides and closes them in on Eddie as though they were actually Velociraptors attacking, making an air swishing sound.
"From the other two raptors you didn't even know were there." Alan says
Continuing with his explanation, Alan walks around the left-side of the young boy to the right.
"Because Velociraptor's a pack hunter, you see. He uses coordinated attack patterns, and he is out in force today. And he slashes at you with this..." Alan says
The paleontologist takes out a raptor claw from his pocket and holds it up between his right index and middle finger. Eddie's eyes grow wide in shock.
"...a six-inch retractable claw, like a razor, on the middle toe. He doesn't bother to bite your jugular like a lion, say. No, no. He slashes at you here." Alan says walking around to the front of Eddie
Alan pretends to slash the boy's mid-torso with the raptor claw diagonally from the lower right to the upper left, then moves downward.
"Or here." Alan says pretending to slash Eddie's groin from right to left
"Oh, Alan." Ellie says disapprovingly
"Or maybe across the belly, spilling your intestines." Alan says moving the raptor claw from right to left across Eddie's waist
Finally, Alan bends down to the boy's level, resting his hands on his knees as he finishes his tale.
"The point is, you are alive when they start to eat you. So you know, try to show a little respect." Alan says
"Okay." Eddie says nodding his head
After having cleared that up with the small boy, Alan walks back across the camp. Ellie hurries to catch up with him, while Eddie turns to rest of the volunteers all glassy-eyed.
"Hey, Alan, if you wanted to scare the kid, you could've pulled a gun on him, you know." Ellie says
"Yeah, I know. Kids. You want one of those?" Alan sighs pointing back to Eddie with his right-thumb
"I don't want that kid. But a breed of a child, Dr. Grant, could be intriguing! I mean, what's so wrong with kids?" Ellie chuckles gesturing back to the volunteers with her left-hand
"Oh, Ellie, look. They're noisy, they're messy, they're expensive." Alan says
"Cheap, cheap." Ellie says
"They smell." Alan says
Ellie gasps.
"They do not smell." Ellie laughs
"Some of them smell. Babies smell." Alan says pointing to Ellie with his left index finger
"Oh, give me a break." Ellie says
Suddenly, a strange wind whips up around the area. Alan and Ellie look around, confused. The winds get stronger, blowing dust and sand everywhere, threatening to bury the Velociraptor skeletons that were already dug out. Then, a roaring sound fills the air, and that's when they see it: an InGen helicopter descending from the sky. The sound of the rotors was deafening. Alan and Ellie rush back down the hill and shout orders to the volunteers.
"Cover the site!" Ellie shouts
"Cover the dig!" Alan shouts
Ellie and the volunteers rush to cover up the dinosaur fossils with protective canvases.
"Cover it all up! Pull it over!" Ellie shouts
Alan runs over to the helicopter as it lands in the camp, shouting loudly at the pilot and gesturing wildly with his hands to shut down the aircraft's engines.
"Cut it out! Shut it down!" Alan shouts
As he looks into the cockpit, Alan could see that the pilot was trying to tell him something as he kept pointing off to the side but was having a hard time understanding him.
"What?" Alan says
The pilot points timidly to the side with his right index finger, directing the paleontologist's attention toward his mobile home. Alan runs over toward the trailer, punching away a pair of jeans hanging from a clothesline as he heads for the door.
The trailer served as the dig site's office. Inside were several long wooden tables set up, every inch covered with bone specimens that are neatly laid out, tagged, and labeled. Farther along were ceramic dishes and crocks, soaking other bones in acid and vinegar. There was old dusty furniture at one end of the trailer, and a small refrigerator. The door to the mobile home slams open as Alan storms in, and he stared incredulously at a man, who was bent down with his back to him, rummaging through the fridge without so much as an invitation.
"What the hell do you think you're doing in here?" Alan asks
The man rises up and turns around to his left to face the paleontologist. This was John Hammond, a kind, jovial, charismatic Scottish capitalist in his seventies. He had short white hair with a matching full beard and shining blue eyes, wearing silver round eyeglasses, a white buttoned shirt, white pants, brown shoes, and a straw hat with a white strap around its base. In his hands was a green bottle of champagne, and he pops the cork like at a celebration with his thumbs. Alan quickly ducks down to avoid the flying cork.
"Hey, we were saving that." Alan says pointing to the bottle with his right index finger
"For today. I guarantee it." Hammond says with a smile and a Scottish brogue accent
"Who in God's name do you think you are?" Alan asks pointing to the man with the same finger
"John Hammond, and I'm delighted to meet you finally in person, Dr. Grant." Hammond greets grabbing Alan's finger with his right-hand and shaking it
Alan stood silent and shocked, staring dumbfoundedly at the old man. Hammond blows a cloud of sand and dust off his hand and looks around the trailer approvingly, seeing the enormous amount of work the bones represent.
"Mr. Hammond... Hammond..." Alan says shocked, under his breath
"Well, I can see that my, uh, 50,000 a year has been well spent." Hammond says
The door to the trailer slams open again as Ellie barges in, looking equally pissed off as her partner was.
"Okay, who's the jerk?" Ellie asks
"Uh, this is our Paleobotanist, Dr.-" Alan says
"Sattler." Ellie says
"Dr. Sattler. Ellie, this is, uh, Mr. Hammond." Alan says
Hammond chuckles and shakes Ellie's hand in greeting.
"I'm sorry for our dramatic entrance, Dr. Sattler, but we're in a wee bit of a hurry." Hammond apologizes
"Did I say 'jerk'?" Ellie says inhaling sharply with a smile
"Will you have a drink? We don't want it to get warm. Come along, sit down, sit down." Hammond says
Hammond begins to walk into the kitchen, making himself right at home. As he moves, Hammond walks with a slight limp. Ellie follows him and tries to help, while Grant settles behind the table.
"I'll just get a glass or two. It's a-" Hammond says
"Here, let me-" Ellie says
"No, no, no, no, no, no, no, I can manage this. I know my way around the kitchen." Hammond says putting his right-hand around Ellie's back and gently moving her around him
Ellie goes around to join Alan's side, while Hammond sets the champagne bottle down onto the kitchen counter and grabs a small glass from the sink, rinsing it out with water and wiping it dry with a white washcloth.
"Now, I'll get right to the point. Ahm, I like ya, both of ya. I can tell instantly about people. It's a gift." Hammond says
After drying the glass in his hand, Hammond leans back against the counter, changing the subject of the conversation.
"I own an island off the coast of Costa Rica. I've leased it from the government, and I've spent the last five years setting up a kind of biological preserve. Really spectacular, spared no expense. Makes the one I got down in Kenya look like a petting zoo. And there's no doubt, our attractions will drive kids out of their minds." Hammond says
"And what are those?" Alan asks
"Small versions of adults, honey." Ellie says leaning closer to her partner on his right-side
Alan gives Ellie a dirty look.
"And not just kids, everyone." Hammond says
Hammond turns around to his left and grabs the champagne bottle with his right-hand, holding the glass cup in his other hand, then turns back to face the paleontologists.
"We're going to open next year. That is, if the lawyers don't kill me first. I don't care for lawyers. Do you?" Hammond says
"Oh, uh, we..." Ellie says
"I..." Alan says
"...don't really know any." Alan and Ellie say in unison
"Well, I do, I'm afraid. There's a particular pebble in my shoe who represents my investors. Says that they insist on outside opinions." Hammond says
"What kind of opinions?" Ellie asks
"Well, your kind not to put too fine a point on it. I mean, let's face it. In your particular field, you're the top minds. And if I could just persuade you to sign off on the park, you know, give it your endorsement, maybe even pen a wee testimonial, I could get back on 'schedual', uh, schedule." Hammond says gesturing to Alan and Ellie with the champagne bottle before pouring the drink into two glass cups
"Why would they care what we think?" Ellie asks
"What kind of park is this?" Alan asks
Hammond offers one of the glasses to Alan.
"It's right up your alley." Hammond says smiling
Alan takes the drink, staring at Hammond with a surprised expression.
"I'll tell you what. Why don't you come down, just the pair of you for the weekend? I'd love to have an opinion of a paleobotanist as well. I've got a jet standing by at Choteau." Hammond says handing Ellie the second drink before jumping up and sitting on the counter
"Look, I'm sorry. This is impossible. We just dug up a new skeleton." Alan says as he and Ellie rise up from their seats
"I could compensate you by fully funding your dig." Hammond says pouring himself a drink
"And this is a very unusual time." Alan says
"The timing is-" Ellie says
"...for a further three years." Hammond says
The two paleontologists were taken aback by the offer, but they soon clink their glasses, agreeing to Hammond's proposal.
"Well, uh, where's the plane?" Ellie asks
"Yeah, okay." Alan says nodding his head and clinking his glass with Hammond's
"Cheers." Hammond says raising his glass
Actually feeling excited for the trip, Alan and Ellie laughed and hugged each other giddily. Suddenly, just as they were starting to celebrate, one of the male volunteers quickly barges into the trailer, looking distressed.
"Dr. Grant, Dr. Sattler, we have a situation!" Man #4 exclaims
"What is it? What's wrong?" Ellie asks looking concerned
"The camp's under attack!" Man #4 exclaims
"Under attack? By what?" Alan asks
"You better see for yourself!" Man #4 says
After saying that, the volunteer rushes back outside. Alan and Ellie quickly put down their drinks and run out of the trailer to investigate with John Hammond following close behind, looking quite concerned himself.
Once Alan, Ellie, and Hammond made it outside the trailer, they were shocked by what they saw happening. All around the camp were monsters that looked like animals. They were Dream Eaters, specifically Keeba Tigers, Halbirds, Hebby Repps, and Staggerceps. The volunteers and their children screamed and fled for safety wherever it was. Most of the diggers managed to get away, but there was some still being chased around the site, and some who were trapped near a collection of rocks. Three men, two women, Eddie and four other kids found themselves cornered by the dark creatures. A Staggerceps drops down infront of the volunteer group, kicking up a cloud of dust, and lets out a loud roar.
Not far from the dig site, Devon arrives in the badlands after his adventure in Kingdom of Pharaohs with Rick 'O Connell, Evelyn and Jonathan Carnahan. He walks across the sandy, dusty terrain as the ground crunches beneath his feet until he stops and glanced around his surroundings. Everywhere he looked there was sandy hills, steep slopes, buttes, hoodoos, and gullies of heavily eroded rock.
"Hmm... Nothing but sand and rock. I always seem to end up in the middle of nowhere. Still, you can't help but admire the natural scenery." Devon says placing his hands at his waist
Suddenly, a loud roar catches the Keyblade Wielder's attention. Spinning around to the right, he traces the sound to a nearby hill. Eager to investigate, Devon races up the sandy incline for a better view. Once he reaches the top, he gasped in shocked by what he saw. Dream Eaters were attacking a dig site, chasing people around and destroying a few tents that was in their camp. Straight ahead, Devon saw five Halbirds terrorizing the pilot of a helicopter, scratching the glass window of the cockpit with their talons, while the man sat cowering inside his aircraft. Slightly down to his left, he saw a group of people trapped near some rocks by a group of Dream Eaters, specifically three Hebby Repps, four Halbirds, five Keeba Tigers, and a Staggerceps. And slightly to his right, the young teen saw Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler, and John Hammond standing by their trailer. Devon decided to focus on the group trapped by the Dream Eaters first as they were the more likely in danger, then he would take care of the rest.
"What kind of creatures are those?" Ellie asks
"I don't know, Ellie, but if we don't do something, those people are going to get hurt." Alan says
"What can we do? We're not equipped to deal with this. We don't have any firearms." Ellie says
Down in the camp, the group of volunteers huddled together and cowered in fear as the group of Dream Eaters started to close in on them. At the front, the Staggerceps began charging up for an attack with a dark purple and red electric orb appearing in its chest-mounted cannon.
"Oh, God!" Man #5 gasps
The orb slowly grew bigger and more powerful with the lightning bolts cracking loudly and becoming more sporadic, while the group of men, women, and children huddled even closer together, bracing themselves for the worst.
But just as the Staggerceps was about to fire its cannon, a large fireball flies in out of nowhere from above and blasts the Dream Eater into oblivion, leaving everyone confused. Then, in that moment, Devon drops down and lands crouched infront of the dig volunteers with his left-leg extended to the side, his right-leg bent, his left-hand to catch himself, and his glowing crystal Keyblade: Soul Calibur, held behind his back. The young hero lifts up his head with a calm, yet serious expression on his face and rises up straight, standing tall and ready to fight the Nightmares. Alan, Ellie, Hammond, and the volunteers were completely surprised by the sudden appearance of the Keyblade Wielder. Ellie gasped in amazement.
"Where the heck did he come from?" Alan asks
Hammond carefully observed Devon and he sensed that there was something very special about him. And then he saw it. The crystal Keyblade in his right-hand. His eyes widened in astonishment.
"It can't be!" Hammond gasps
Alan and Ellie glanced over at Hammond on their left for a moment, hearing his words, then looked back down at Devon as he twists his body to the right, pulling Soul Calibur back and holding it up alongside him one-handed in his right-hand, and his leading left-hand out.
"Go! Get to cover! I'll handle this!" Devon says glancing back at the dig volunteers over his left-shoulder
Heeding the words of the Keyblade Wielder, the men, women, and children ran for safety, heading over to the trailer where the rest of the volunteers had gathered, near where Alan, Ellie, and Hammond stood. Devon watched them go for a moment before turning back to face the Dream Eaters as they their attention toward him.
One of the Keeba Tigers lowers down with a dark aura enveloping its body and leaps forward in an aggressive lunge, its claws extended, but the young hero swiftly leaps backwards, dodging the attack. Bouncing off the rocks behind him, Devon propels himself forward and cuts down the saber-toothed Nightmare with a lunging outward slash. The other Keeba Tigers all charge forward and attack together, running toward the Keyblade Wielder with fast speed. Devon slams his Keyblade down on the first Keeba Tiger with a downward strike, kicks away the second tiger with a wheel kick using his left-foot, and hits the third tiger with a spinning left uppercut slash. The last Keeba Tiger leaps forward and swipes its claws at the young teen, but he quickly jumps away to the right. As he dodges the attack, Devon grabs onto the tiger's tail with both hands, spins around once to the right, and throws the dark creature at the rocks, then hurls a blue electric blast through his crystal Keyblade. The Keeba Tiger smashes into the rocks and is vaporized by the electric blast shortly after.
After dealing with the Keeba Tigers, Devon turns right to face the Halbirds and Hebby Repps as they approach him and attack together. The eagle-like creatures shoot dark purple feathers with a flap of their wings, while the snake lizards shoot their black needles with a flick of their tails. Putting up a defensive stance, Devon holds Soul Calibur horizontally infront of him in his right-hand and surrounds himself in a blue-white hexagonal spherical barrier of light. The dark feathers and black needles bounce off the barrier harmlessly in all directions. Once the barrier disappears, the young teen dashes forward at the Dream Eaters with incredible speed, initiating his attack. Pulling his crystal Keyblade across his body, Devon cuts through the first Hebby Repp with an outward slash, then strikes down the other two with a left uppercut slash and a reverse roundhouse slash. Then, he leaps up to the four Halbirds and slices through the dark creatures with a rapid aerial spin attack, spinning outward to the right and leaving a bright blue trail of light in his wake.
Alan, Ellie, Hammond, and the volunteers all watched Devon in amazement as he fought bravely against the Dream Eaters. Some of the volunteers went and grabbed their video cameras that happened to be sitting on a picnic table near the trailer and actually began recording Devon as he moved to deal with the rest of the Dream Eaters.
In the camp, two men and two women volunteers ran from three Halbirds and two Keeba Tigers that chased them until Devon jumped in and blocked their path. The young teen pulled Soul Calibur back and raised his crystal Keyblade to the sky, summoning a cascade of lightning bolts out of thin air, which strike down and vaporize the Nightmares into oblivion. Next, he turns his attention to a woman and a man with their young daughter in his arms being chased by four Hebby Repps rolling towards them like the tires of a car. Devon slides into the path of the snake lizards, pulls Soul Calibur across his body, and swings it outward with a wide slash, unleashing a burst of ice in a wide arc, freezing the dark creatures in their tracks. The couple stopped and looked back at their savior for a moment, then went to join the other volunteers. Nearby, two women and three young children, two boys and one girl, stood trapped by three Staggerceps as they approached, snapping their pincers. But before the Nightmares could attack, Devon lands in-between them, pulls Soul Calibur back and thrusts it skyward, emitting a bright burst of magical light from the tip of his Keyblade and himself, which sends the large stag beetle creatures flying. With the monsters gone, the women and children run to join the rest of their group near Alan and Ellie's trailer.
As the volunteers ran to safety, Devon turns to the group of Halbirds attacking the pilot of the InGen helicopter, the eagle-like creatures screeching loudly as they continued scratching up the cockpit with their talons. Targeting the Dream Eaters, the young teen pulls his crystal Keyblade over his right-shoulder and hurls forward with a strong vertical throw. Soul Calibur flies through the air like a buzzsaw, leaving a sparkling trail blue-white light in its wake as it homes in on the dark creatures. Soon, it cuts slices through two of the Halbirds infront of the helicopter's cockpit, then it loops around to the right and cuts down the other three. After destroying the dark creatures, Soul Calibur returns to Devon like a boomerang and the Keyblade Wielder runs and leaps up high into the air, catching his weapon in his right-hand with his body in the light of the sun.
By this point, all of the dig volunteers were now safe, and the Staggerceps, Keeba Tigers, Halbirds, and Hebby Repps began to focus their attention on the Keyblade Wielder as they closed in around him. Devon glanced around at the Dream Eaters, but he was ready for them, holding Soul Calibur infront of him with both hands, the crystal Keyblade shining with a light blue gleam.
The Dream Eaters made their move first. A Keeba Tiger charges at Devon from behind, but he leaps up into the air with five backward somersaults, dodging the attack, then the young hero dives down and stabs the saber-toothed creature with his Keyblade. Four more tigers attempt to attack Devon from all directions, but he sends them away with three left spinning light-infused split kicks, his legs extended outwards and a blue light shining on both his feet.
The Hebby Repps attack next, whipping their tails at the Keyblade Wielder. Devon leans his body left and right, evading the long tails of the snake lizards until he grabs one with his left-hand. Pulling back on the Dream Eater's tail, Devon spins the reptilian creature above his head like a lasso and actually uses it like a whip, hitting one Hebby Repp infront of him, then another, and another, and another until all the Hebby Repps were defeated. Then, he throws the one in his hand above him and finishes it off with an overhead arcing slash.
Third came the Halbirds with one swooping down and swiping it's talons at Devon. The Keyblade Wielder ducks down, avoiding creature's talons, then dispatches the Nightmare with a backflip slash. Landing on his feet, the young teen looks up at the other Halbirds and raises his Keyblade at them, summoning a silver whirlwind that sucks up the eagle-like creatures, sending them spinning in a vortex for a couple of seconds before sending the Dream Eaters away in all directions.
Finally, there was the Staggerceps, four of them, which were the last few remaining Dream Eaters. One of the stag beetle creatures shoots a dark purple blast through it's large pincers at the young hero, but he dodges the attack, leaping upwards with a somersault. Performing an inverted flip in the air, Devon lands on the head of another Staggerceps behind it. Turning around to its left, the Staggerceps shoots another pincer blast at the Keyblade Wielder, accidentally hitting its twin, while he jumps back into the air. As he leapt upwards, Devon pulls Soul Calibur back and throws it down at the Nightmare, defeating the dark creature with one hit. The third Staggerceps charges at the young teen as he lands, but he leaps over and handflips off its head, then whirls around and strikes the dark creature across the back into oblivion with a left diagonal slash. Devon turns to face the fourth and final Staggerceps, and he ducks down just in time to dodge its large pincers as it lunges to bite him. The dig volunteers gasped as they watched this. Again and again, the Staggerceps lunges at Devon, snapping at him with its pincers, while he kept ducking down to avoid its attacks. Eventually, after the fifth lunge, he strikes back at the Dream Eater with a backflip kick, knocking it away. Dashing toward the Nightmare, Devon attacks with an outward slash, a high jump kick with his left-foot, and a right wheel kick. Then, he attacks the Staggerceps from all directions with seven dashing strikes, his glowing Keyblade in hand, warping in and out with blinding speed between each thrust before reappearing at the front and smashing into the stag beetle creature with one last lunging strike, sending the Nightmare back some distance away. For his final move, Devon pulls Soul Calibur behind his back and began charging up with pure energy, his entire body glowing with light.
"Haaaaaaaaah!" Devon yells
Once he was fully charged after six seconds, the young teen leaps forward, spinning three to the left before delivering the final strike.
"Yaaaaaah!" Devon yells
Devon slams Soul Calibur down on the Staggerceps, creating a large rippling shockwave of light as he destroys the dark creature, finishing the fight.
With all the Dream Eaters defeated, the dig site is restored to its calm and quiet setting, save for the gentle breeze of the wind and the loud cry of a red-tailed hawk. Alan, Ellie, Hammond, and all the dig volunteers stared in astonishment with widened eyes and a few open mouths. Devon was bent down on his right-knee with Soul Calibur glowing in his hands, panting for breath, but he soon stands up straight and dismisses his Keyblade.
"Huh... That's the last of them." Devon sighs wiping the sweat off his brow with his left-arm
Suddenly, the Keyblade Wielder heard clapping and cheering off to the side. Turning around to his left, he saw that it came from the group of volunteers as they praised him for his heroics. Devon smiled and looked towards Alan, Ellie, and Hammond as they smiled. He assumed they were the ones in charge of the dig site and walked over towards the trailer to meet them.
"That was... amazing! You were incredible!" Ellie says smiling gesturing to Devon with her right-hand
Ellie turns to her partner on her left.
"Don't you think, Alan?" Ellie says
Alan still wasn't quite sure about what he had just witnessed, but he was grateful to this strange young man for saving their dig site, and thus simply nodded his head.
"Uh... yeah, it was... definitely something." Alan says
"Well, uh, thank you for saving our camp and our people." Ellie says
The young teen nodded his head and gave a thumbs-up with his left thumb.
"Happy I could help." Devon says smiling
The young teen extends his right-hand out and introduces himself.
"I'm Devon."
Ellie was the first to shake Devon's hand, instantly taking a liking to him.
"I'm Ellen Sattler. But you can call me Ellie."
Although he was a bit hesitant, Alan shook his hand next. Despite all the weird things he had seen from him, the paleontologist could tell that Devon was someone to definitely be trusted.
"Alan Grant."
"Is anyone hurt?" Devon asks looking around
As soon as the question was brought up, a man and woman came forward, moving their way past the other volunteers. It was the same couple that Devon had saved during the Dream Eater attack. Their names were Alex and Lydia Fields.
Alex was a Caucasian man of average build in his late-twenties, 5' 11" in height with short brown hair and green eyes, wearing a tan vest, a gray short-sleeved shirt underneath, a silver watch on his left-wrist, light blue jeans, and dark brown work boots.
Lydia was a Caucasian woman of a slender build in her mid-twenties, 5' 6" in height with long dark brown hair and blue eyes, wearing a short-sleeved, buttoned denim shirt, khaki cargo shorts and tan shoes.
In Alex' arms was their seven-year-old daughter, Lily Fields, who had lightly tan skin, dark brown chin-length hair, and aquamarine eyes, wearing a pink and white striped top, a blue, pink, and pearl beaded bracelet on her right wrist, a plaid sky blue and white pleated skirt, gray shorts underneath, and white sneakers.
"Our daughter, Lily. She tripped and scrapped her leg while we were running from those monsters." Alex says setting his child down as gently as he could
Devon kneels down to the young girl as she sat down on a flat rock and indeed, he saw a red scrape wound on her left-leg. Looking up, he could see that she was in pain, whimpering with tears streaming down her face. Speaking with a soft, gentle voice, the Keyblade Wielder introduced himself.
"Hey. My name's Devon. What's yours?"
The young girl hissed a bit from her injury before saying her name with a whimpering voice.
"Lily."
Feeling sympathy for the poor girl, Devon places his right-hand on her face and wipes away her tears with his thumb.
"Don't worry, Lily. I'm gonna fix you right up." Devon says
Looking down at Lily's wound, the Keyblade Wielder holds her leg under with his left-hand and held out his right-hand over the wound as he concentrated on calling forth his healing powers. The Celestial Ring on Devon's right middle finger and the crystal Kingdom Hearts sigil on his chain necklace began to glow with their blue light, and the same light emits from his open palm, glowing brightly with pure life energy. Lily gasped and stared in wonder, as did her parents. Maintaining his focus, Devon slowly closed his eyes, entering some kind of trance as he transfers his energy into the child. Soon, the wound on Lily's leg started to glow with the same light as healing waves washed over it, along with sparkles of light that slowly blinked in and out. Then, everyone watched in stunned amazement at what happened next.
"Oh, my God..." Alex gasps
"Look!" Woman #2 gasps
The young girl's leg began to heal with her skin mending together to seal up the wound. The red, bloody scrape grew smaller and smaller until it was completely gone as if it never happened. The entire healing process lasted for twelve seconds before the light on Devon's hand fades away. Once the task was done, the Keyblade Wielder opened his eyes, lowered his hand, and gently set Lily's leg down, letting out a sigh.
"There you go. All better." Devon says
Slowly, Lily rose up onto her feet and the dig volunteers all gasped and murmured in astonishment.
"Wow!" Eddie says
"Look at her leg." Man #5 gasps
The young girl looked down at her leg and was surprised to see that her wound had vanished. But more importantly, the pain in her leg was gone. A happy smile quickly formed on Lily's face.
"My leg! Mommy! Daddy! Look! He fixed my leg!" Lilly exclaims happily
Lily turned to Devon and gave her hero a big hug, wrapping her arms around his neck.
"Thank you, Devon." Lily says
The Keyblade Wielder looks down at her and smiled, placing his left-hand around Lily's back, returned the hug. The dig volunteers awed and chuckled at the moment, each with a smile on their faces. Eventually, Devon and Lily pull away from their hug, and the young girl returns to her parents, while the teenage boy pushes himself up on his feet. Curious to learn more about Devon, Alan walks over to him with Ellie and asks him the obvious question.
"Uh, Devon? If you don't mind me asking... What exactly are you?" Alan asks
"I know the answer to that, Dr. Grant. Our friend here... is a Keyblade Wielder." Hammond says stepping forward
Everyone was confused by the term. Nobody knew what a Keyblade Wielder was.
"Keyblade Wielder?" Ellie says confused
"What's a... Keyblade Wielder?" Alan asks
"Only the most remarkable beings ever to exist in our Universe. They are very special people who can wield mysterious weapons called Keyblades, hence it's the reason why they are called Keyblade Wielders. With it, they are granted many special abilities and could wield all kinds of magic. There was once many Keyblade Wielders like our friend here all across the Universe that traveled from world to world, keeping people and all innocent creatures safe from evil. That was... until they all mysteriously vanished." Hammond says
Everyone looked over at Devon, who simply nodded his head.
"It's true. Only those who are pure of heart, chosen by the Keyblades themselves could use them." Devon says
"The Keyblade Wielders were heroes, peacekeepers, the Guardians of Light, and I've come to respect them a great deal." Hammond says
Alan and Ellie turned and looked at Hammond, surprised by how much he knew about the Keyblade and its wielders.
"How is it you know so much?" Alan asks
"I've heard tales about Keyblade and its wielders ever since I was a wee lad. Very few people know of their existence, and I happen to be one of them. In all my years, I never thought I'd live to see one myself." Hammond says
With a bright smile, Hammond shakes hands with Devon, introducing himself to the young hero.
"John Hammond. I'm so delighted to finally meet one of the Keyblade's chosen in person."
"Nice to meet you, John." Devon says nodding his head
"You know, Devon. I like you. I really do. I can tell that you are a very respectable young man, someone who is very special. It's a gift I have. Now, onto the point. I'd like to extend you a very special invitation." Hammond says
"An invitation? To what?" Devon asks
"An island, off the coast of Costa Rica. Isla Nublar. It's where I've built a zoological preserve, a theme park that I intend to share with the entire world. It's scheduled to open next year, but I require a few endorsements for the park to get some pesky lawyers off my back. Dr. Grant and Dr. Sattler have already agreed to visit the island, and I'd be very delighted if you could come along with us. Think of it like, uh... an island vacation for all your hard work as a Keyblade Wielder." Hammond says
Devon places his hands at his waist and glanced down to the right as he pondered for a moment. The Keyblade Wielder was currently on his quest to unlock the Sleeping Keyholes as part of his Mark of Mastery exam in order to become a Keyblade Master, but perhaps he could do with a little vacation time. And now that he thought about it, he was actually curious about Isla Nublar and this amazing theme park that John Hammond had built there. Perhaps it was part of his exam, and it seemed to be the likely reason why he was brought here into this world. And so, after thinking it over, Devon looks back up at the old man and nods his head, accepting his invitation to the island.
"Alright. Count me in." Devon says pointing to himself with his left thumb
A big smile formed on Hammond's face.
"Excellent! Now, we've no time to waste! Let's get going!" Hammond says
Excited for their trip, Hammond goes to check on his helicopter with Devon following him, while Alan and Ellie arranged for some people to watch over the dig site while they're gone.
Elsewhere, down south in Central America, near San Jose, Costa Rica, a man exits out of a taxi cab near an oceanside restaurant, along the country's east coast, leaving the back passenger door open visible to the annoyance of the driver, who gets out and goes around to shut the car door, showing an impolite attitude and lackadaisical behavior. This was Lewis Dodgson, a man in his fifties with short light brown hair and dark brown eyes who worked for Biosyn, a rival genetics company of InGen. He was trying to remain inconspicuous as an American tourist, wearing a Panama straw hat, black shade sunglasses, a red polo shirt, khaki pants, and brown leather shoes. In his right-hand was a brown leather attaché case full of American dollars, money for a job, and slung over his left-shoulder was a tan backpack.
Lively ranchera music plays in the outdoor restaurant with a Spanish man singing on a radio. Also in the area was a fruit and poultry market filled with baskets of green coconuts, green bananas, grapefruit, melons, pineapples, mangos, and apples, and wire cages of clucking chickens and crowing roosters. Dodgson walks through the market past the patrons and shopkeepers, clutching his attaché case and scanning the restaurant furtively. He was on his way to meet a contact who was willing to help him, and his company get ahead of the competition.
Nearby in an outdoor food court was Dodgson's contact, Dennis Nedry, a large man in his late thirties with short dark brown hair and gray eyes, wearing black rectangular eyeglasses, a silver rectangular digital watch on his left-wrist, a black floral shirt that had white lotus flowers, pink hibiscus flowers, and forest green leaves, pale blue jeans, black shoes, and a smile that was either laughing with you or at you. Nedry was a computer programmer who worked at Jurassic Park for John Hammond, a greedy, thickheaded, entitled individual, eager to sell other people out for money. Due to financial problems and a low paid salary, Nedry accepted a bribe offered to him by Biosyn to conduct some industrial espionage against InGen. He was sitting at a round table, enjoying some cuisine when he saw Dodgson strolling through the market. Recognizing the person who hired him, Nedry shouts out to him.
"Yo, Dodgson!" Nedry calls waving his left-hand high in the air
Dodgson looks over at Nedry on his left and walks over to his table, sitting down next to him.
"You shouldn't use my name." Dodgson says
Nedry found this to be amusing, then started shouting Dodgson's name loudly and repeatedly.
"Dodgson! Dodgson! We've got Dodgson here!" Nedry says glancing back over his left-shoulder and pointing to his employer with his right index finger
No one notices with the exception of a couple of restaurant patrons who glance over at Nedry, seemingly annoyed that he is making a spectacle of himself. Amused at the lack of response, Nedry turns back to Dodgson.
"See? Nobody cares. Nice hat. What're you tryin' to look like, a secret agent?" Nedry says shrugging his shoulders before pulling off Dodgson's hat
Dodgson ignores him and takes his hat from Nedry, setting it down on the table.
"Well?" Nedry says
Getting down to business, Dodgson picks up his case from the ground on his right and hands Nedry his payment.
"750. On delivery, 50,000 more for each viable embryo. That's 1.5 million, if you get all 15 species off the island." Dodgson says
Nedry smiles and greedily clutches the money case in his arms, kicking his legs and laughing with glee.
"Oh, I'll get 'em all." Nedry says
"Remember, viable embryos. They're no use to us if they don't survive." Dodgson says
"How am I supposed to transport them?" Nedry asks looking back at his employer
Going down to his backpack, Dodgson pulls out a seemingly ordinary can of Barbasol shaving cream and holds it in his hands, showing it to Nedry.
"The bottom screws open." Dodgson says
Dodgson screws the Barbasol can counterclockwise with his left-hand and lifts up the cover to reveal a cylinder compartment built into the faux bottom of the can. It was a cryogenic containment unit specifically designed to store the dinosaur embryos that Nedry was going to be stealing from Hammond and InGen. Nedry grins and laughs, impressed by the design of the modified can.
"That's great. Oh, my God." Nedry laughs
Dodgson twists the middle shaft of the device clockwise and the locking mechanism springs upward, making Nedry squeal excitedly.
"It's cooled and compartmentalized inside." Dodgson says
"Oh, that's great!" Nedry laughs
Finished with his demonstration, Dodgson pushes the containment unit back down, twists the shaft counterclockwise, locking it, then screws it back into the can.
"Customs can even check it if they want to." Dodgson says
"Let me see." Nedry says
"Go on." Dodgson says smiling
Nedry presses down on the can's dispenser with his left index finger, and it functions like a genuine can of shaving cream, dispensing a handful of the white cream into the palm of Nedry's right-hand.
"Ohohoho! No menthol?" Nedry laughs
While Dodgson continues talking, Nedry wipes the shaving cream off his hand onto a slice of pie on the table next to him on his right.
"There's enough coolant inside for 36 hours. The embryos have to be back here in San Jose by then." Dodgson says
"That's up to your guy on the boat. 7:00 tomorrow night on the east dock. Make sure he gets it right." Nedry says looking back at Dodgson, putting the Barbasol can down on the table
"How are you planning to beat security?" Dodgson asks
"Oh, I've got an 18-minute window. Eighteen minutes and your company catches up on ten years of research." Nedry says wiping his hands off with a napkin
A waiter arrives and places the check for Nedry's food down on the table, between them.
"Gracias, señor." The waiter says before leaving
Nedry looks down at the check pointedly, then up at Dodgson.
"Don't get cheap on me, Dodgson. That was Hammond's mistake." Nedry says shaking his head slightly as a warning
Dodgson awkwardly picks up the check with his left-hand and takes out his wallet to pay for Nedry's meal, having received his full cooperation.
