Chapter 8

I didn't remember how I got back to the place where I should sleep. My brain felt like it was filled with dough, and I couldn't think of anything.

"Hey!" someone suddenly shouted near me. It was Cynelith. She was eating a big bowl of stew. "You don't look very good."

"I'm fine," I said, even though I wasn't fine. "I just feel a little bit tired."

"Eat some stew; it's delicious."

I looked into the bowl. My stomach began to twirl badly because the stew was light green. "No thanks," I said with my eyebrows furrowed.

"It's just some peas!" she said. But I had already run away before she spoke.

I lay on my bed. Now my stomach was twirling harder because I was hungry. Well, I thought to myself. I hate peas. If I eat the pea stew, maybe I will die.

Suddenly I saw something colorful in the corner of the room. It looked like the cover of a book. I walked to that corner. The colorful thing was in Cynelith's bag. I took it out. To my surprise, it was a copy of The Catcher in the Rye.

Whaaaaaaaaaat!

The dough in my brain was going to become bread in this heat! I was one-hundred percent sure that the people in The Lord of the Rings wouldn't read this book. It was popular in the 20th century. And also…

I rushed to my own bag. I dumped everything out crazily. With the dropping of pencils, books, and bread, I saw the same cover. I placed the two books together. They looked exactly the same!

How could she get this? I still remember how I got this book. Our school headmaster bought that book for all of us. He wished that we would have the same courage as the character in this book. Also, he asked us to put the book in our school bag every day.

A great thought began in my head. Maybe Cynelith was in the same school as me! But how?

"What are you doing?"

I looked up at her and showed her the book. "How did you get this?"

But to my surprise, she said, "I don't remember."
