(Due to the constant issue with e-mail notifications not working on the site, this note is a confirmation that this chapter was released as planned on Friday 3rd November 2023)
Hello there everyone, and welcome back to the next chapter of the Nazarick Triumvirate where the Lizardmen arc is coming to an end as Fengxian prepares to engage their mightiest warriors in battle. I hope you are all doing well and are still enjoying this story of ours. On behalf of myself and my co-author, we want to thank you for continuing to stick with this humble story of ours as it does mean the world to us. We're coming up to 200 followers and 175 favourites, and every single one of those along with every review and read is greatly appreciated.
(daniel: Hi guys! As my partner said it's great to see you again and thanks for all the support! This anime season has been incredible! This arc is one of the best and it has been a truly great ride! Now let's finish it with a bang!)
How's everyone enjoying this season of anime? Cannot lie it's been a banger so far. The Rising of the Shield Hero is back to its peak that it hit in Season 1, which is whetting my appetite for the third instalment of my True Shield Hero saga, whilst Dr Stone, Spy x Family, the Eminence in Shadow and Shangri-La Frontier are continuing to hit it out of the park every week. Unfortunately, I had to drop Ragna Crimson because I couldn't get invested in it, but that has been replaced by the riot that is The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You (all hail the new harem king!). Rom-coms aren't my usual thing, but as proven by Toradora I can enjoy a good one when it comes around!
And of course, we cannot forget the big one. The Attack on Titan anime will end tomorrow, and I am simultaneously anticipating and dreading it since I am not ready for, in my opinion, the GOAT of all anime to end for good. AoT made me fall in love with anime and will always be near and dear to my heart as a result, and I plan to enjoy every last minute of what is sure to be an epic finale.
Enough waffling, let's get into the chapter, shall we? As always, the usual disclaimer that neither I nor daniel own Overlord or any of its characters, locations, events or anything else related to the anime, manga or Light Novels. The only things we own are our OCs, Henry and Fengxian. ENJOY!
Chapter 16 – The God of War
None of the assembled Lizardmen could bring themselves to say a word after what they had just witnessed. Even from a distance, they had watched in both awe and fear as these so-called 'Great Ones' had conducted their quick business with their leader and strongest warrior, and even just the sight of them had made even the hardiest among them tremble at the thought of what they could unleash.
The one on the largest throne, the robed skeletal-like figure with the golden staff…even those with low magical aptitude had felt the almost unbelievable amount of power he gave off with just his aura and presence alone. In addition, he bore the air of someone who didn't just expect to be obeyed…no, it was as if his very existence demanded that all those who laid upon him bowed in his very presence and listened to his orders without question. And if that hadn't been enough…the fear and dread that hung about both him and those alongside him, who the Lizardmen had assumed to be his servants and retainers given how deferential they had been to him, could have choked the air around and sucked the life out of them if it had been their wish.
As for the other…he too had given off an aura of power and might. But unlike his leader, he had radiated majesty and an air of tempered compassion and had spoken to them in much kinder tones, though still with as much firmness as his fellow. And those with magical aptitude had gleaned off of him a hidden depth that simmered beneath his human exterior…an ancient power that could tremble and trample everything about it should it be unleashed. This was a being who was altogether kind and magnanimous but, should he ever be pushed beyond the limits of his tolerance, would burn down all those who stood before him until nothing but ash remained.
Those two had been awe-inspiring and terrifying enough, but then they had spoken of a third, who they called their 'Grand Marshal' and strongest warrior and would fight their chosen warriors in the next few hours. If they were as strong if not stronger than the two who had spoken to them…what chance did they have of even hoping to turn back the invaders? Still, even if their submission was inevitable, the beings had made a good point when they had turned down Shasuryu's offer to surrender: Better to prove their worth and usefulness to their future masters in a defiant show of strength rather than meekly submitting to avoid death and proving themselves cowards and thus raising the ire of their future leaders.
At least one good thing was coming out of this whole grim affair: Nobody else would be dying. Even if they hadn't said it outright, it was obvious the 'Great Ones' had no interest in ending the lives of those who would become their future subjects. As the thought of this spread around the Razor Tail village, the hearts of the tribes lifted a little. Should things go as most thought it would, they would be vassals instead of their own people, but at least they would have their lives.
As for the chieftains and Zaryusu, both the leader and his brother had remained grimly silent upon returning to the rest of their people. In fact, none of the chieftains said a word until they had retreated to a private gathering of their own to discuss what came next.
"Well, I guess that's it then," Zenberu sighed as he and the others sat down in a small circle before turning to Shasuryu. "What's our next move?"
Shasuryu exhaled slightly before answering. Even if his people were looking up to him for hope and guidance, there wasn't much he could provide. Having been closer than anyone to the presence of the 'Great Ones', he knew better than anyone the futility of what came next. Still, they were Lizardmen…they would show their warrior spirit even in the face of the inevitable. "We'll gather up all of the warrior-class Lizardmen and assemble at the appointed time," he replied. "Should we be defeated, we'll at least go down showing the honour and courage of our people. And maybe, just maybe….with all of us gathered, we may stand a chance."
"I don't think that's going to happen, brother," Zaryusu pointed out resignedly. "They may not have said it outright, but I got the impression that they have already decided on this 'Grand Marshal's' opponents, which means they have already observed our warriors' capabilities and now just want to test the rest of us…those who they haven't seen fight yet."
"You think they were observing us, Zaryusu?" Sukyu asked.
"I'm sure of it. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if they've been observing us from the very start, right after their first messenger came," came the weary reply.
Though obscured by his bony helmet, it was hard to miss the look of realisation on Kyuku's face. "If that were true, then that means…"
"…everything that's happened…the gathering of the tribes, the opening battle, the procession we witnessed just now….it's all been by their design," Shasuryu finished, he and the others coming to the same conclusion. "I wouldn't be surprised if that loss yesterday was part of the plan just to gather information on and test our powers and might."
"Then why give us this last opportunity to fight? If this has all been their orchestration, why did they not just sweep right in and conquer us?" Crusch spoke up. "Judging by the strength of his magic, I imagine that undead could sweep us all aside easily with a wave of his hand, so why would they go through all this trouble?"
"Because we've earned their attention and respect through our efforts yesterday, which is why they are gracing us with their strongest warrior," Zaryusu answered before getting back on topic. "As I said, it will no doubt be the five of us, that being myself, my brother, Zenberu, Kyuku and Sukyu who will be selected to fight, which is good because that means even if we fall, there'll still be one leader who can represent our tribes after we die." All eyes turned to the albino chieftain among them as Zaryusu said this.
"Works for me…better I go out swinging rather than cowering away in the background," Zenberu said while pounding his fist into his open palm whilst the other chieftains nodded silently in agreement
"Hey hold on a second…if this is the future of our race then I want to fight too!" Crusch declared angrily before turning her wrath on Zaryusu. "Zaryusu, why are you willing to be a martyr now after everything our people have gone through?"
"Because our people have been given a chance to live in peace and prosperity should we lose and we fall, and you have the heart and spirit to look out for their best interests should the worse come to pass," Zaryusu told her sternly. Crusch didn't look happy about it as the other chieftains left the two lovebirds alone together, but though she continued to argue against it Zaryusu was unyielding, not wanting the woman he loved to sacrifice herself for his sake. This caused the albino female to hug Zaryusu desperately as they both despaired over the grim reality of their situation whilst thanking their ancestors and the spirits around them for giving them a chance to meet and find love with one another. And it was during this moment of passion and sorrow that Crusch spoke the last two words that Zaryusu ever thought he would hear come from her:
"Impregnate me!"
~TNT~
Once their audience with the two Lizardmen leaders was concluded, Ainz and Henry, along with Narberal, Ninya and the Guardians who had accompanied them passed through the Gate and arrived back in the dummy Nazarick that Aura and Mare were currently in charge of constructing. As the Gate fizzled out behind them, Victim floated forward until they were hovering in front of the two Supreme Beings.
"If that is all you wish of me, Lord Ainz and Crown Prince Edward, I will take my leave and return to my duties in the Great Tomb," they spoke up, politely inclining in their head.
"Yes, your part in this campaign is now over. You did well, Victim. Make sure to keep the first floor of Nazarick safe, and inform Pandora's Actor of your return," Ainz ordered.
"I will do so with my life if needed," the small pink brain replied happily.
"Let us hope it does not come to that," Henry told them gently as he reached forward and patted the small creature's head, causing them to let out a sigh of delight from being praised in such a manner. "Thank you for all you have done for us, Victim. Luci Fer would've been proud. Take care of yourself until we next send for you, okay?"
"Your great heart moves me, Lord Edward. I am just so proud and thankful that I can be of service to the Master and Crown Prince," Victim spoke. "I return now to Nazarick. Please, give Grand Marshal Fengxian my regards when you next see him." Once they had finished speaking, they conjured a small version of Gate before passing through it, leaving behind a bunch of awed and proud Guardians who couldn't help but be moved at the show of care from the Crown Prince to Victim.
"Whilst he may show a special type of love to myself, Solution, Narberal and Lupusregina, my beloved has such a great heart that extends to all in the Great Tomb…and it is that love he shows that drives us all on to do our utmost to serve and please him, alongside Father and the Grand Marshal…" Albedo thought to herself dreamily as she and the others, with the exception of Aura at the front, trailed behind the two Supreme Beings as the elder dark-elf twin escorted them deeper into the structure.
"My deepest apologies that this place is a shambles, Lord Ainz and Lord Trajan," Aura babbled with repeated bows of her head. "If I knew you would be coming personally, I would have prepared this place properly…unfortunately it's been a bit of a rush job trying to get it ready for its intended purpose so it's all a bit of a mess. You merely have to give the word and Mare and I and the others will clean it up straight away so that it is more proper to house your eminent selves…"
"There's no need to apologise Aura…it will do as is," Ainz interrupted with a raised hand that ceased her babbling on the spot.
"Besides, you, your brother and the others built this place for my Father and me out of love and devotion," Henry told her gently. "In our eyes, that makes it a dwelling that is on par with Nazarick, so don't beat yourself up any further about it, okay?"
"Oh, thank you, my Lord and my Crown Prince…I am truly honoured to hear you say such about this worthless creation of mine. I am glad it can be of use to your mighty selves," Aura replied, a relieved expression passing over her and Mare's faces.
"That being said…I have to ask…" The group had reached the main room of the structure that was going to serve as the dummy throne room. As of this moment, it was completely unfurnished…all except for two small throne-like chairs that were placed in its centre. "What on earth are those?!" The Overlord asked almost dumbfoundedly as he indicated the two chairs with his staff. They were made completely out of bones with two skulls at the end of each armrest, what looked like a perfectly sculpted hip and waist piece that not only served as the area where the occupant's rear would be located, covered by an ornate blue seating cushion, but also was the base for the back part of the seat which was a fully intact rib cage crowned by what looked to be a perfectly preserved skull that looked as though it was from a bird-like creature. Growing out of the hips were two curving horn-like pieces that arced upwards towards the head, the tips of whom were clutched in tiny hands, and from the shoulders were what looked to be the bone structure of a small pair of wings.
If it wasn't for the fact that the chairs were completely made out of the bones of creatures, they'd be hailed as marvellous pieces of craftsmanship. Instead, these chairs caused the same thought to run through the minds of Ainz and Henry. "Surely whoever made these doesn't expect us to sit on them?!"
"I commissioned these myself, my Lords. After all, it would not do for such mighty beings such as yourselves to be seated on anything less than the most fitting of thrones, plain though they may be" Demiurge admitted with pride.
"Right…and about the bones, where did you get them from?" Ainz asked even though he feared the answer
"The craftsmen and I assembled the best parts of various animals…gryphons, wyverns and the like. I hope it is to your and Lord Henry's satisfaction," Demiurge answered with a deep bow.
"That's not what Father…never mind…" Henry said with gritted teeth as he tried his best not to let his disgust show. (Suzi…I don't care what you say or even if you order me to do so…I will not sit on those!) He yelled for only his friend to hear. (For Kami's sake…those are human skulls! I'm not putting my hands on those in a million years!)
(You think I don't feel the same way Ise?!) Ainz shouted back. (I'm just trying to think of a way we can get out of this without upsetting Demiurge! You could hear it in his voice just how proud he is of them!)
"Damn you to hell, Ulbert! Why'd you make it so your sadistic creation enjoys crafting things so much?!" Henry raged internally as he cursed the name of his most hated compatriot in Ainz Ooal Gown. "But damnit if Suki isn't right…Demiurge isn't Ulbert, and he's loyal to us. The last thing I want to do is shit on his work and the time he spent making it out of my hate for his creator and upset him in the process!" Even though he didn't agree with and couldn't comprehend the magnitude of Demiurge's sadism, he was still a creation of Nazarick and a member of the close-knit family that he, Suzi and Ki were part of here and as such was still very dear to him, even with the hatred Henry had for his creator. "Come on Suzi, think of something…I really don't want to sit on that monstrosity of a chair or offend Demiurge…"
(Hang on…I've just thought of something that might be a compromise) Ainz suddenly told him. Was it Henry's imagination, or did his friend's words sound very reluctant just now? (But promise me you won't laugh or tease me for what I'm about to do, alright?)
"Oh thank Kami…" Henry thought to himself with relief. (I'll do my best but…what did you have in mind?)
(Watch) Ainz suddenly clapped his hands before turning to face the rest of the Guardians, his piercing red eyes focused on one in particular. "Shalltear Bloodfallen," his voice rang out, causing the named Guardian to jump about a foot in the air before quickly striding forward and kneeling before her Overlord.
"How may I be of service, Lord Ainz?" She asked, head bowed low.
"I seem to recall that a short while ago, you swore to submit yourself to whatever punishment I saw fit to inflict upon you as recompense for your near-failure during your assignment with Grand Marshal Fengxian," Ainz said as the rest of the Guardians and Henry all turned their gaze upon the cowed vampire who very visibly flinched at the reminder of her blunder by her eternal beloved. "And whilst you have begun to learn from your mistakes due to the Grand Marshal's tutelage, you have yet to be properly punished for them. I intend to rectify that right now." Ainz pointed to the area of the floor in front of him. "Get down on your hands and knees…NOW!
"A-as you wish, Lord Ainz," Shalltear acceded in a tone that was a mix of submission and excitement as she quickly moved to obey. Once she was in place Ainz, to a mix of shock and awe from everyone else present, sat upon the Guardian's back, causing the petite vampire to start breathing heavily in a mix of ecstasy and joy as she revelled in both the kinkiness of the act, taking great joy in the thought of her beloved using her as nothing more than a common piece of furniture, and the pleasure of having her beloved Lord's glorious frame resting upon her unworthy frame.
"Brilliant, my Lord…I am in awe!" Demiurge exclaimed delightedly. In the background, Aura wasn't sure whether to be amused at seeing Shalltear degraded in such a manner or disturbed at how much she seemed to be enjoying it, whilst Ninya wrenched her gaze away with an embarrassed squeak as she tried to clear her mind of the disturbing sight she'd just borne witness to. The young undead's only comfort was that Mare seemed just as mortified and uneasy about what they were seeing. As for Albedo…she neither looked angry nor pleased at what she was seeing, instead wearing a blank expression as her calculating mind started whirring.
"I thought it was just me and Peroroncino who were into the kinky stuff!" Henry thought to himself as he did his best not to laugh out loud at both his friend's actions and the sheer enjoyment Shalltear was deriving from it. "Never thought I'd see the day where Suzi would indulge in such things himself. One thing is for certain, Shalltear will be even more enamoured with him and may even make the first move after this! I wonder though…if Suzi saw how much Shalltear was loving it, would he carry on?"
"I'm sorry Demiurge…the throne you made for me will have to go to waste for now," Ainz apologised, only for the demonic Guardian to shake his head.
"It could never compare to this, my Lord!" He replied gleefully with a sadistic grin. "Using a Guardian as your throne?! Truly a prestige that could only be claimed by a Supreme One such as yourself! Such an inspired choice…I would never have thought of it!"
"I-is that…so? Well…if it pleases you, I'm glad..." Ainz replied somewhat abashedly as the sounds of Shalltear's moans and heavy breathing continued to ring out across the room.
Demiurge's words caused Albedo to get a sudden brainwave, her eyes glazing over with anticipation as she turned to face her beloved, her expression a mix of calculation and lust. And as she spoke up, it was hard to miss the obvious jealousy and desire behind her words. "My lord Henry, you told me not long ago that I needed to be punished for my transgressions. I believe now is the perfect time for you to administer that to me." To the shock of everyone in the room, she too got on her hands and knees alongside and in the exact same manner as Shalltear before turning her gaze back to her gobsmacked and disbelieving Crown Prince, her golden eyes alight with longing. "I beg of you, my lord…please feel free to use me as your chair as well. I deserve it for my transgressions against your glorious self!"
For a moment Henry's mind went blank as he struggled to comprehend both her words and what he should do in response. "I'm so glad Ki isn't here right now…he'd be having a field day with this…" He doubted Suzi would be of any help since he was most likely feeling doubly as embarrassed at the moment. As for the Guardians and Ninya, they were all, with the exception of Demiurge, looking just as shocked or ill-at-ease at Albedo's proclamation. "Albedo and I have gotten up to some weird and wonderful shit in the bedroom, all of which I've really enjoyed…but this is a level of kinkiness I never expected from her! Still…between her back and Demiurge's bone chair…there's only one choice…" "I-if you think this is a suitable punishment, my dear, then so be it," he said slowly and clearly, deciding to play along whilst doing his best to hide his sudden discomfort as proceeded to sit down on Albedo's back, causing the lustful succubus to start adding her own heavy breathing and moans of pleasure to Shalltear's which only served to add to the uncomfortableness in the room.
"Incredible! How utterly inspiring to witness!" Demiurge gushed. Aside from the moaning pair of Guardians, he was one of two currently present who wore an expression of joy on their face. The only other in the room currently enjoying the show was Narberal as she couldn't help but watch, her heavy breathing and dilated pupils giving away both just how hot she found this and how much she wished it could be her in Albedo's place. "As to be expected, our glorious Heir surpasses our expectations time and time again. Only he could have ever humbled our Guardian Overseer enough to voluntarily offer herself to him in such a manner!"
"Demiurge, you are not helping…" Both Supreme Beings moaned to themselves as they looked down at their respective chairs and noticed with alarm and worry that both girls seemed to be panting heavily at their exertions, their muscles straining.
"Shalltear, is this too hard for you?" Ainz asked with concern
"Are you feeling alright, dear?" Henry inquired at the same time, causing both women to look up at their respective beloveds. Their pupils were utterly dilated, their faces the deepest shade of crimson and saliva dripping from their chins which only served to deepen the embarrassment felt by both Supreme Beings.
"This isn't a burden at all! On the contrary, I consider this to be the greatest of rewards!" Shalltear exclaimed.
"Only our nights of passion could make me feel as good as I am right now, darling!" Albedo pretty much purred through her panting.
Ainz and Henry found themselves once more thanking Kami that their fellow Supreme Being wasn't here to witness this, since they were pretty sure that despite the coldness already seeping into his heart he'd be getting the biggest kick out of seeing his friends in such a state with their respective women. Deciding that their punishment had been sufficient both of them started to get to their feet, to the displeasure of their women, only to stop and reconsider.
"No, this is the punishment we gave them and we have to see it through. As their leaders, we must share the blame for their failure," they thought as they sat back down, much to the delight of both women as the pitch and intensity of their moans only intensified. "But come on, Peroroncino/Tabula…just how kinky did you configure her to be?!"
"N-now that that's out of the way, it's time to get down to business," Ainz spoke up again as he tried to get the meeting back on track, a tough accomplishment given the lust-fuelled moans of both of the prostrate Guardians whilst the others took a knee before them. "If anyone has any thoughts on our earlier negotiations with those two Lizardmen, please speak your minds."
"Given your power over them, my Lord, I must admit I was very surprised that they managed to keep themselves from bowing or falling prostrate before the glorious presence of yourself and Lord Henry," Demiurge gushed. "I also must admit that I am curious as to why you did not have either myself or one of the others force them to their knees before you as befitting an inferior species such as them."
"The idea was tempting, true, but I did not want to give our adversaries any reason to fear or despise us when we bring them under our rule," Ainz clarified. "If the subjects in question had gone out of their way to provoke us or shown total disrespect to myself and my son, then yes they would have deserved the heavy-handed treatment you described Demiurge. But these Lizardmen did no such thing…they were polite and respectful, and whilst they may have not shown us the proper decorum initially, they did not protest when corrected and acceded when they didn't have to. That, along with their display of prowess yesterday, has shown us that they are at the very least to be respected, not brow-beaten into submission like those dogs at the Theocracy will when their time comes."
"Our approach showed when their leader offered to surrender instantly instead of facing the Grand Marshal and Cocytus. A more defiant and intolerable enemy would have scoffed at the offer we'd presented and claimed that some unseen force or 'higher power' would see them through against us," Henry explained. "Their attempt to surrender showed their respect and awe of our power and a desire for no one else to die a meaningless death, traits which we can foster and harness when they are under our rule. In that way, we will have willing vassals who will treat us with respect and admiration, especially once they bear witness to Fengxian's might since we showed them the same courtesy in return. Does that make sense, Demiurge?"
"Your wisdom and foresight are truly unrivalled, my lords," Demiurge replied as the rest of the Guardians, Ninya and Narberal looked up at them with awe and wonder. "And I can truly see now the benefits of having grateful and respectful servants rather than rebellious ones. It is the same approach Lord Fengxian took with Miss Jemima which made her incredibly devoted to our cause, and I am sure it will work here with these Lizardmen." Demiurge's eyes were practically gleaming behind his spectacles. "And I look forward to seeing the future results of your efforts to bring the nations of this world under your mighty banner."
"You were so awesome up there, combining fear and power with respect and courtesy! It scared and awed me at the same time!" Aura exclaimed.
"Their faces were roiled with delicious fear at the very notion of my beloved and Crown Prince's wrath…" Shalltear panted.
"…at the same time, I saw the relief behind their eyes at both my father's and beloved's words of compassion, knowing that even in their inevitable defeat their lives would be spared and be more prosperous than ever under the glorious rule of Nazarick…" Albedo proclaimed through her panting. "Combined with the respect they showed us and the prowess they have already displayed and will no doubt showcase against our Grand Marshal, I have every confidence they will be worthy additions to Lord Ainz's glorious empire!"
"I couldn't have said it better myself, Lady Albedo," Narberal couldn't agree more with her harem sister. "A heavy hand is sometimes needed but a firm but fair approach can pay dividends."
"I-it as they say, my lords," Ninya added nervously. "N-not only will they be grateful for the mercy they will show you, but I believe there is much we can learn from their way of life. And the unique magic they possess…I would be eager to study it for myself should the opportunity arrive."
These statements caused Ainz and Henry to look at each other with satisfaction as the Overlord chuckled. "Very well said, all of you…I see that you all understand the many benefits of having the Lizardmen as willing vassals under our banner," he said. "This pleases both of us to the point where we can consider Grand Marshal Fengxian and Cocytus' tests against them a success, which in turn allows us to set the stage for what comes next." He then lifted a bony hand towards the copy of the Mirror of Remote Viewing that had also been set up in the room. "Now then…let us see how these Lizardmen are spending their time…"
With a wave of Ainz's hand, the blank face of the mirror was replaced by an overhead shot of the Lizardmen's camp where they all observed the tribes preparing their weapons and communing with their ancestors in preparation for what was to come. After carefully watching how they went about these practices, Ainz's hand swiped to his right causing the next scene to play out in front of them, showing the rest of the chieftains conversing with one another and readying their weapons and arms for their showdown with Fengxian and Cocytus. "Good…at least they are preparing with the utmost diligence and concentration. They will need it when they go up against Ki…but where is the white one and the leader's brother? I don't see them among them…"
"That's odd…shouldn't the one with the magic weapon…Zaryusu, if I remember correctly…also be among them planning for their fight with the Grand Marshal?" Henry asked, voicing Ainz's thoughts aloud.
"Maybe he's inside of the houses, resting up?" Aura suggested.
"A fair suggestion Aura…normally the Mirror of Remote Viewing can't see what's going on within buildings. However, with the right application of magic, I can create a sensory organ, and then by combining that with the Mirror's powers we can overcome that minor inconvenience and see what he's up to…" As he spoke, Ainz picked up a scroll from his Inventory system and proceeded to do just that, but as the magic did its thing and they all saw what Zaryusu was getting up to, Ainz instantly regretted his curiosity as his and the others' startled eyes all widened at the sight of Zaryusu and the albino chieftain, Crusch…for lack of a better phrase, getting it on.
"Eek-!" Ainz gasped as he swiped his hand rapidly, causing the image to fade. However, the damage had already been done as everyone had borne witness to it and were wearing expressions of disgust (in Demiurge and Narberal's case), confusion (which was the case for Ninya and Mare), curiosity (Aura's current expression), a mix of disbelief and embarrassment (which were warring on Henry's face) or, and perhaps most concerning of all, arousal and expectation that only served to heighten the pleasures that Shalltear and Albedo were currently continuing to indulge in below their respected beloveds' posteriors, with the former fantasizing about her eternal beloved finally calling her to his bed and using his unrivalled magical power, knowledge and expertise to make love to her and give Lord Augustus siblings, while the latter pictured all the precious heirs she and her harem sisters would give her beloved, her heart nearly bursting in happiness at the thought.
'Of all the things I expected to see in this New World… Two lizard people doing it was NOT on the list' Henry thought in sheer disbelief as he tried his best to clean the image from his mind, but his efforts were interrupted by Aura.
"Um…Lord Ainz…forgive the inappropriateness of my question but…what were those two Lizardmen doing?" Aura asked innocently, leaving Ainz completely flummoxed as both Mare and Ninya's gazes also turned his way in expectation.
"NO WAY AM I ANSWERING THAT! Bukubukuchagama would find a way to kill me even from the other side of the universe if I corrupted the innocence of her creations! Must…find a way to…deflect…WAIT, I got it! Let's hope Ise forgives me for this…" "I-I believe my son, the Crown Prince, is in a better position to answer that. Why don't you ask him?" He stammered
"Lord Trajan…can you tell us please?" Aura begged with puppy-dog eyes that Mare and Ninya were also displaying as she turned her gaze to an equally flummoxed Henry.
"SUZI YOU BASTARD! I CAN'T TELL THEM THAT…then they'd know what my girls and I get up to every night. Do you want Bukubukuchagama mad at me?!" The fact that Albedo and Narberal were wearing similar expressions of startlement and embarrassment wasn't helping! But as he stammered and hemmed and hawed for an excuse, he got an unexpected but not unwelcome reprieve.
(My beloved Lord Constantine…forgive my abrupt communication, but I urgently require your council regarding our mission) Solution's voice suddenly spoke into his mind.
"Oh thank Kami…" (What's happened, Solution? Are you or Sebas in any danger?) He asked, grateful for the diversion but curious and somewhat worried as to why Solution would be contacting him.
(We aren't in any danger currently, Lord Constantine. But I fear Lord Sebas may have gone rogue. His actions over the past couple of days have put our mission at great risk, but when I confronted him about it and requested to report it to either yourself or Lord Ainz, he told me not to since he believes it is a trifling matter) Solution explained. (As much as I did not wish to go against Lord Sebas' wishes, I believe the risks his actions pose to our mission and your plans supersede his concerns. I beg of you, my beloved…please come to the capital and set Lord Sebas straight before our operations are compromised!)
"That's odd…Sebas is completely loyal to Nazarick and myself…why would he take actions contradictory to our wishes?" Henry pondered. "This definitely warrants our attention, plus it gives me a reason to get away from here…" (I understand. I will convey your words to Father and depart as soon as possible. Expect me presently, my darling Slime)
(Thank you, my darling Constantine! I shall await your arrival!) Even via Message, Solution's longing and gushing were clearly audible. Henry quickly cut the connection and got to his feet, much to Albedo's dismay as he went to a knee before Ainz. "Father…forgive my abruptness, but I request your permission to depart with all haste."
"For what purpose, my son?" Ainz asked, slightly put out by Henry's sudden request.
"Solution contacted me just now. She fears her and Sebas' mission could be compromised and asked for my assistance," Henry quickly surmised. "Having listened to her concerns, I believe I should see to this personally…with your permission."
"I see. You have my permission and blessing. Go to the capital and do your best to resolve any concerns regarding their mission. Once we are done here, I will expect an explanation from both yourself and Solution as to what happened," Ainz acceded with a firm incline of his head. With one last nod and bow, Henry had Demiurge create a Gate back to Nazarick and quickly departed through it.
"I wonder what that was about…but since Sebas and Solution are involved, I can leave it in Ise's hands until we finish up here…speaking of which, time to wrap this up to avoid any awkwardness…" "You see, Aura…since they believe their culture is on the verge of collapse, their instinct to preserve their species has kicked in which led them to…well…" Ainz left his words hanging, hoping that would be enough.
"Yes…that is only natural…" Demiurge conceded.
"Such a tawdry display can be forgiven in that case…" Narberal muttered, red-faced at thoughts of her nights of passion with her beloved giving the results the lizard couple were aiming for
"Right…totally fine…leave it to Lord Ainz to clear things up!" Aura sighed as Ninya and Mare nodded frantically, causing Ainz to sag with relief.
"Seems like they bought it…let's hope that was enough to satisfy them for the moment…" "That's enough, all of you," he commanded firmly, ceasing the chattering that had arisen from his words as everyone looked back to him once more. "For now, we ought to take some time for ourselves in these next few hours. I am sure you are all eager to watch Grand Marshal Fengxian's upcoming display of might, so let's make sure we are all well-rested before then."

It was the fourth hour after the midday sun when the time allotted to them by the 'Great Ones' expired, and as its radiant light started to stop below the tree line on the edge of the Razor Tail territory, the warriors, elders and spiritual leaders of the Lizardmen tribes gathered in an orderly formation to await whatever destiny would come for them. As the sun glinted off their spears and polished pieces of armour, repaired and renewed during the breathing period, Zaryusu Shasha and the other chieftains, minus Crusch, accompanied by Zaryusu's fully healed and revitalized pet hydra Rororo, stood at the head of their assembled kinsmen, weapons bared and ready as they awaited the arrival of the undead forces' strongest warrior and his chief lieutenant.
They weren't kept waiting for very long as a contingent of the undead forces appeared from the forest and assembled opposite the Lizardmen tribes in neatly organised rows. But instead of launching an attack, every undead unhooked their spears and shields with the precision of a well-drilled army and started clanging their armaments together along with their feet in a haunting, rhythmic beat. As the chieftains and the warriors all watched on, slightly unnerved by seeing the undead act with the same well-oiled timing, they almost missed seeing several trees being sliced clean in half at the forest's edge as the undead started to part ranks, leaving a wide gap down the centre. Eventually, the whole area of the forest behind the gap gave way like the parting of the Red Sea as a massive figure emerged from where the trees had once stood.
This figure was massive, easily dwarfing the tallest among the Lizardmen. It resembled a giant insect walking on two legs and possessed two massive shoulders, off of which hung four muscular arms which were adorned with dazzling golden bands and other ornaments. What appeared to be two solid blocks of ice could be seen growing out of the creature's back as it slowly approached them, its massive chest adorned with a golden breastplate, and clutched in the outermost arm of the two on its left-hand side was a colossal double-bladed axe which stood as tall as the creature itself.
"Is this the undead's strongest warrior that the one called Ainz referred to earlier?" Zaryusu wondered as he and his fellows watched the giant creature approach. Despite its bulk, its strides were considered and measured, and even from where they were standing the Lizardmen could tell this creature had the stance and posture of a skilled warrior. "Even with the five of us working together, I don't fancy our chances against this thing…"
But as the creature reached the front of the undead ranks and paused, the words that came from it, spoken in an odd guttural-like tone, were both unexpected and incredibly worrisome for all the living souls who heard them. "Greetings, Honoured. Warriors. Of. The. Lizardmen. Alliance. I. Am. Cocytus, A. Servant. Of. The. Great. Ones. And. Chief. Lieutenant. To. The. Grand. Marshal. Of. Nazarick's. Forces. And. Its. Strongest. Warrior, Grand. Marshal. Fengxian." The creature then meandered off to the side slightly before taking a knee, as did the rest of the undead forces who by now had stopped the rhythmic banging of their weapons. "On. Behalf. Of. The. Master. Of. Nazarick, Ainz. Ooal. Gown, And. His. Adopted. Son. And. Heir, Crown. Prince. Edward, Allow. Me. To. Introduce. He. Who. Has. Chosen. To. Grace. You. With. His. Presence. And. Who. Will. Display. For. You. His. Unparalleled. Might. Against. Your. Chosen. Champions, The. Grand. Marshal. Of. Nazarick, One. Of. The. Almighty. Supreme. Beings. And. My. Honoured. Teacher…Lord. Fengxian!"
As the Vermin Lord finished his speech, another figure came forth from the gap in the forest. Though not as tall as his lieutenant, he was no less an intimidating sight. Clad all over in black armour, along with a fearsome helm from whose eye slits emanated a fearsome red glare, and bearing a massive halberd that was, just like his compatriot's battle-axe, as long as he was tall, the 7-foot, 3 inches mountain of armour and muscle took his time in making his way to the front of his forces who had all bowed their heads even lower when confronted by his presence. In his fearsome armour, carrying his deadly weapon and carrying himself with the air, grace and stature of a seasoned warrior who was confident in his victory, just the sight of him was causing the greatest of the Lizardmen warriors, even with their numerical advantage, to further question just how much of a chance they stood against him.
"Chieftains, warriors and all assembled members of the Lizardmen tribes," the figure spoke in a deep voice with a growl-like echo, no doubt caused by his intimidating helm, that oozed both command and respect. "I am Grand Marshal Fengxian, leader of the armies of Nazarick and loyal servant of Ainz Ooal Gown. On behalf of my master and my Crown Prince, I have come to do battle with the greatest of your warriors and test your mettle. Per the terms set forth by my ruler…should your chosen warriors defeat me, we will leave and never before you again. But should you lose, you and the rest of your tribes will submit to the rule of Nazarick." He then buttled his halberd against the ground below him as he spoke his next proclamation. "Let those who have been chosen come forward and declare themselves!"
The four Chieftains and Zaryusu looked between each other and nodded grimly before stepping forward, hoping against hope that the sight of more than one warrior stepping forward might unnerve the towering goliath slightly. Yet it was all for nothing as their opponent seemed to have expected it would be these five who approached him.
"Shasuryu Shasha, chieftain of the Green Claw tribe and leader of the Lizardmen Alliance, will fight on behalf of the tribes!" Their leader declared with the rest following suit immediately.
"Zaryusu Shasha of the Green Claw tribe will also fight on behalf of the tribes!"
"Zenberu Gugu, chieftain of the Dragon Tusk tribe, will fight on behalf of the tribes!"
"Kyuku Zuzu, chieftain of the Razor Tail tribe, fights for the tribes!"
"Sukyu Juju, chieftain of the Small Fang tribe, also fights for the tribes!"
Fengxian nodded, impressed and honoured by their bravery in the face of their impending defeat. He could see it in their eyes that they knew they were outmatched even at a 5-to-1 advantage but were resolved to fight anyway on behalf of their people. He would give them the same courtesy and respect and engage them to the full extent of his abilities. "I hear your names, brave chosen, and salute your courage! May you fight well and honourably!" He then nodded to Cocytus who, upon rising to his feet, extended an arm and conjured two pillars of ice that served as a makeshift gate between the five Lizardmen leaders and the rest of the tribes which he then proceeded to walk towards. "Once the battle is joined, anyone else who dares to pass that gate will have their lives forfeited at Cocytus' hands. We would rather no more blood be spilt this day, so I advise you to heed this warning and not do anything stupid."
Judging from the passing glances exchanged by the rest of the warriors, it would appear there were no bloodthirsty fools among this bunch as they all appeared to accede to this request, no doubt in fear of what these two massive and powerful warriors could do to them. Now that they were sufficiently pacified, Fengxian turned his attention to the five standing opposite him as he proceeded to twirl his blade skilfully between his two muscled arms before pointing the bladed edges directly at them, the light of the evening sun glinting off its keen edge as the piercing red light of his helm seemed to pierce their very souls. "Come at me, you who are the greatest warriors among the Tribes. Show me your skill!"
The five warriors looked between each other and nodded grimly, communicating their intent with their eyes as they all proceeded to start jogging towards the giant warrior opposing them, a coordinated front of lethal intent who would give all their heart and strength on behalf of those who believed in them. The towering chieftain of the Green Claws led the charge, his massive broadsword raised high and his scarred body quivering with anticipation. At his side calmly jogged his brother, the mighty Zaryusu whose dark eyes were cautiously observing their opponent's stance, probing for any weaknesses and finding none. On Shasuryu's other side confidently marched Zenberu, baring his own halberd and sweeping it in front of him in wide and menacing arcs meant to unnerve his foe. Kyuku moved in a wide arc to their left, his double-bladed spear held cautiously in front of him as he sought to make a rush on the goliath's flank when the battle commenced, whilst on the right-hand side Sukyu expertly twirled his ornamented sling as he prepared to pepper their foe with ranged projectiles.
Though he was outnumbered, Fengxian studied their approach and stances carefully as the five made their way towards him. Even from just this opening show, he had a good sense of who would be the more problematic to deal with and who would be the easiest to subdue, but even so, he would allow them to press the offensive initially to get confirmation of his thoughts.
The five Lizardmen warriors swarmed at the massive Nephilim as a unit, determination etched upon their faces as they began a coordinated assault that was meant to overwhelm their opponent. Shasuryu took the lead, his broadsword slashing towards Fengxian with lethal intent, but his first attack was comfortably parried by Fengxian forcing him to fall back and regroup. But the Grand Marshal was given no time to rest as Zaryusu leapt through the air, Frost Pain bared and aiming square for the gap in the massive warrior's helm. He met the attack with the massive shaft of his weapon before using the momentum of the traveler's charge to fling him overhead with the intent of sending him sprawling to the ground, but the cunning warrior sensed the intent and was able to land on his feet, although the jarring impact caused him to stumble slightly.
In order to buy time for his comrades to recover, Zenberu went blow for blow, halberd against halberd, against their opponent. Whilst the massive Lizardman was skilled with his weapon, Fengxian's mastery of Heaven Piercer allowed him to quickly seize the advantage and force Zenberu onto the defensive, a fighting style the Dragon Tusk chieftain was unfamiliar with. But just as Fengxian took the advantage, he was forced to counter an attack from his flanks as Kyuku, perhaps sensing an opportunity, rushed in to jab at the Nephilim's flank with his spear. This forced the Grand Marshal into a temporary 2-on-1 battle as Zenberu and Kyuku swung and stabbed at him from opposing sides, hoping to overwhelm the Grand Marshal with their combined assault. This proved to be in vain though as Fengxian, perhaps sensing Kyuku's lack of skill compared to the others, delivered a powerful stroke that sent Kyuku, though he'd blocked the blow with his weapon, skidding back along the marshy ground.
Zenberu pressed the attack once again only to find himself quickly back on the defensive, but again he was bailed out as the Shasha brothers had regrouped and launched themselves back into the fray in the hope that a 3-on-1 assault this time would overwhelm their foe. But much to both their amazement and dismay, Fengxian kept up and looked to be holding his ground with relative ease as he blocked, dodged and parried their respective blows whilst delivering the occasional powerful strike that would send his respective opponent stumbling away, bringing the fights back down to 2-on-1 momentarily. Perhaps recognising his lack of strength and skill compared to the others in the face of this mighty foe, Kyuku circled their skirmish and launched quick and precise jabs when he sensed an opening, only for his blows to be stopped too as their foe's weapon appeared to be in all the right places at the right time. As for Sukyu, he was peppering Fengxian with accurate shots from his sling, but his projectiles may as well have been peas for all the good they were against the goliath's armour.
By letting his opponents dictate the pace of the fight and focusing on a more defensive stance initially, Fengxian was able to fully understand the ebb and flow of each of his opponents' respective combat styles and suss out their strengths and weaknesses as a result. Out of all of them, Zenberu possessed the most raw power which made him the focal point of their combined offensive, whilst Zaryusu's agility and intelligence allowed him to make precise strikes against any openings the massive warrior presented. Whilst strong and skilled in his own right, Shasuryu's main role was as the inspiration and rallying point, willing his comrades on even though they were fighting an uphill battle, and Kyuku and Sukyu were being the opportunist attackers, allowing their three comrades to take the main brunt of the fight and only launching their respective assaults when they sensed an opportunity. As he blocked and countered their blows, Fengxian quickly formulated a strategy to take out the weak links and thereby swing the fight in his favour.
The opportunity presented itself shortly afterwards as Zenberu charged at him alone, his blade arcing downwards. Fengxian took the blow as he normally did, but this time used the momentum of Zenberu's charge to skilfully spin around, keeping the blades of their weapons locked with his right hand whilst using his left arm to trap Zenberu's weapon behind his back. As the Dragon Tusk chieftain tried and failed to pull his weapon out of Fengxian's mighty grip, Shasuryu charged in from Fengxian's other side and swung his blade downward, only for the warlord to shift the angle of his weapon just enough to catch the massive broadsword on its blade, effectively pinching him there as the Green Claw leader tried in vain to push it back. Seeing their opponent occupied by the others' attack, Zaryusu charged in to strike at his exposed front, only for the mighty warrior to raise his right boot and kick the unsuspecting warrior right in the chest, sending him sprawling once again. (If you want a visual of how this would look, search for the Dynasty Warriors 8 cutscene where Lu Bu fights Zhang Fei, Guan Yu and Liu Bei at the Battle of Hu Lao Gate)
"Brother!" "Zaryusu!" The two chieftains called out. Sensing their attention was diverted out of concern for their comrade, Fengxian lashed out with a burst of strength they hadn't yet witnessed that sent them stumbling away, thus presenting Fengxian with an opportunity to go after the two weaker warriors. Shifting back into a two-handed grip, Fengxian launched himself with a burst of speed towards the exposed Sukyu, only for Kyuku to bravely stand between him and the charging warlord with his spear at the ready. However, the power and speed of Fengxian's charge was too much for the Razor Tail chieftain to withstand as he was shoved aside unceremoniously, leaving Sukyu vulnerable without any chance to dodge or counter the warlord's attack. He fired one last projectile in desperation towards his opponent's head, but Fengxian's senses were keen. He easily sidestepped the attack before launching one of his armoured fists against the diminutive Lizardman's jaw, the force of which sent Sukyu crumpling to the ground unconscious and out of the fight.
Kyuku, in a rush of blood upon seeing his comrade fall, attempted to strike Fengxian from behind in the wake of his attack on Sukyu. But his clumsy charge was easily countered, and after a quick exchange of blows Fengxian was able to easily disarm his opponent before jabbing the butt of his weapon at the chieftain's chest with such force that it cracked the Bone Dragon Armour and took all the breath of Kyuku's body. As his opponent crumpled to his knees, Fengxian dropped his blade before grabbing Kyuku in both arms and delivering a powerful backbreaker across his armoured knee with such force that Kyuku's spine nearly shattered, rendering the chieftain immobile and unable to continue.
With two opponents down, Fengxian picked up Heaven Piercer and turned back to the other fighters who had only just recovered from his previous blows. As he charged back towards them he focused on Shasuryu first, swinging his halberd in vicious arcs that were aimed to wound and cripple the Green Claw chieftain, but the mighty Lizardman parried the blows with skill, his broadsword proving to be a shield against Fengxian's relentless onslaught.
Yet Fengxian's attacks grew only more relentless to the point he was able to forge a gap in his defences, but just as Shasuryu was about to join his comrades in defeat Zaryusu and Zenberu rejoined the fight themselves. With a determined expression on his brow, Zaryusu lunged with Frost Pain as he sought to relieve the pressure off his brother, the legendary blade shimmering with elemental power. Fengxian met the blow head-on, the clash of their weapons echoing across the plain. Zenberu attacked from the other side with a whirl of force, but Fengxian was able to successfully parry his attack too, his superior strength clearly evident as he held back their combined assault.
Even as the Lizardmen tried their best to rally and seize back their numerical advantage, it was quickly becoming apparent both to them and everyone else watching that the advantage was now firmly with Fengxian. Even with his confidence in his honoured teacher's skill and power, Cocytus found himself completely awed as the Grand Marshal began to dominate his opponents, whilst on the other side the Lizardmen warriors were both astonished and daunted by how easily this single warrior was overpowering the strongest of their fighters.
Having now decoded his opponents' fighting styles, Fengxian's moves became a symphony of precision and power as he began to overpower his flagging foes. Though they continued to put up an admirable resistance, it wasn't hard to spot that their morale and strength were now flagging in the face of such a powerful foe, and as they tired Fengxian was able to start focusing on his opponents one by one. Shasuryu fought with a ferocity born from desperation and determination, his broadsword clashing with Heaven Piercer in a flurry of strikes. But Fengxian's strength proved insurmountable as, with a swift and sudden twist of his halberd, he disarmed Shasuryu, sending the chieftain's broadsword flying. The chieftain staggered, his scales marred with exhaustion as Fengxian pressed his advantage, landing a series of blows that left Shasuryu gasping for breath before, with a final, thunderous strike, he sent the leader of the Lizardmen Alliance to the floor, unconscious.
Seeing his leader fall, Zenberu let out a roar of defiance as he lashed out at Fengxian, his halberd whistling through their air. He attacked the warlord with unyielding determination, yet Fengxian was able to anticipate and counter his ever-tiring moves. Eventually, the Dragon Tusk chieftain's strikes became slower and slower, and after one particularly exhausted swing, Fengxian was able to counter with a devastating blow to Zenberu's side that caused the massive Lizardman to grunt in pain, his grip on his halberd failing. Sensing the opportunity, Fengxian disarmed Zenberu with a massive sweep of his halberd. Now disarmed and with his strength completely spent, the Dragon Tusk chieftain fell to his knees, allowing Fengxian to incapacitate him with a mighty blow to the side of his massive skull that sent him crashing against the ground, completely out for the count much like his comrades.
Thus, the hopes for the Lizardmen's continued independence now squarely rested on their last remaining warrior, the heroic and stalwart Zaryusu who had been responsible for uniting the Lizardmen in the first place. Though his scales were battered and his body weary, Zaryusu stood defiantly in the face of his mighty opponent, his eyes determinedly meeting the crimson glow emanating from Fengxian's terrifying helm. As a warrior who valued such honour and unwavering resolve, Fengxian acknowledged Zaryusu's defiance with a respectful nod, a silent gesture that honoured his and his fallen comrades' indomitable spirits.
As those watching looked on with bated breath, the two combatants circled each other, their respective auras of ice and dark brushing against each other creating an air of tension all around them. Zaryusu was the first to make a move, lunging at Fengxian with Forst Pain bared in a burst of energy. The strikes and those that came after were skilful and required total concentration on Fengxian's part to block against, but everyone watching could see that even with this burst, the traveler's strength was waning against Fengxian's inexhaustible might. But even as Zaryusu's strength waned and his strikes grew more sluggish, Fengxian never underestimated any of his blows even as they became much easier to block and dodge. Though he was tiring, the warrior's spirit refused to buckle, his determination to fight on evident with every swing of his blade.
But eventually, even Zaryusu's spirit and strength had to give out against Fengxian's unholy might and seemingly invincible defences. He launched one final burst of strikes, each one of them imbued with Frost Pain's frozen aura, but Fengxian was able to deflect and parry each one of his blows before, with another manoeuvre that was too fast for the average eye to comprehend, Fengxian brought his blade across and disarmed Zaryusu, sending Frost Pain skidding across the glass as the exhausted warrior fell to his knees. But even with his defeat imminent, Zaryusu refused to be cowed. He met Fengxian's helmeted stare with a tired yet unwavering glare of defiance, a gesture which Fengxian respected once more with another nod of acknowledgement before, with one last powerful strike, incapacitating Zaryusu and sending him, much like the other chieftains, crashing to the ground as he fell into unconsciousness and thus decisively ending the battle.
A hushed silence fell over those watching now that the sounds of battle had ceased as Fengxian raised himself back to his full height. Though he had won, he knew that the Lizardmen fighters had faced him with honour and had showcased their martial prowess and unwavering spirit even in the face of his unmatched strength, and he now fully intended to show them the respect that they had undoubtedly earned, even in defeat.
Gripping his halberd in his left hand, he powered down his dark aura before removing his helm, allowing those assembled to witness his unholy and disfigured features. But in contrast to his ugly appearance, Fengxian dropped his helm at his feet and, after gazing at each of the individual fallen warriors surrounding him, raised his right hand over his heart before proceeding to thump it forcefully five times, one for each of the brave warriors that had faced him. And as if by some unspoken command, Cocytus proceeded to do the same straight afterwards, and once his gesture of honour was finished the undead forces banged their weapons against their shields the same number of times as they too honoured their worthy opponents.
Though their efforts had in the end been for nought, the Lizardmen had earned the respect and admiration of the forces of Nazarick and their masters, thereby joining the exclusive club of the following New Worlders that had also earned this honour: Gazef Stronoff, Nfirea Bareare, Enri Emmot and the fallen warriors of the Swords of Darkness.

Once the dust had settled on the climatic battle between the Grand Marshal Fengxian and their five strongest warriors, four of whom were their chieftains, the ranks of Lizardmen warriors and the rest of their people, alongside Crusch Lulu, the last remaining conscious chieftain, nervously awaited their fate.
Fortunately, or unfortunately depending on who you asked, they didn't have to wait for that long as the sound of clapping suddenly broke out. As everyone turned towards its source they saw a group of burly undead bearing an ornate throne on their shoulders, and on this throne sat the Great One himself: Ainz Ooal Gown in all his resplendent glory, his golden staff clutched in his right hand. Behind him, on a long and elegantly cut red carpet that ran from the edge of the forest and was being constantly lain down by another group of undead, strode his Guardians.
Upon seeing their ruler approach, Fengxian, Cocytus and the undead forces around them quickly fell to their knees and bowed their heads. Perhaps sensing that, as the only chieftain currently standing, she would be required to formally and verbally acknowledge their vassalization, Crusch hesitantly strode forward and knelt beside Fengxian, all the while doing her best not to look at the broken body of her beloved and the rest of the chieftains.
"Well fought, Grand Marshal Fengxian. Never before have I seen such a magnificent display of martial prowess," Ainz congratulated his general as soon as he got within earshot.
"I am glad that my meagre skills and efforts proved to be of satisfaction to you, my Lord," Fengxian answered deferentially. "The chosen warriors I battled are to be commended as well. They fought valiantly and with honour, even when they saw they could not win, and have earned my deepest respect."
"I am pleased to hear it. If they have impressed you that deeply, then they truly are worthy warriors," Ainz replied graciously as the undead lowered his throne to the marshy ground. His crimson gaze, and the eyes of the other Guardians, all turned to the albino Lizardman kneeling at the Grand Marshal's side. "I assume you are here to speak on behalf of the Lizardmen tribes?"
"Y-yes, Lord Ainz," Crusch hesitatingly spoke up, doing her best to keep her composure in the presence of such powerful beings. "I am Crusch Lulu, chieftain of the Red Eye tribe, and as of this moment the representative of the Lizardmen Alliance."
"Thank you for coming to speak with us, Representative Crusch," Ainz acknowledged. "I assume you have come to honour the agreement made by myself and your representatives earlier?"
"I am indeed," she replied before lowering her head and falling to both knees submissively. "As the speaker for the Lizardmen Alliance, I hereby declare the surrender of all the tribes to the Ruler of Nazarick, Lord Ainz Ooal Gown. We will serve you without resistance, and abide by any and all guidance that you and your chosen representatives will give us."
Ainz nodded once before replying. "I, Ainz Ooal Gown, Ruler of the Great Tomb of Nazarick, accept your words and your surrender. I swear on the name I bear that your people will be treated considerately and with great respect given the valour and honour with which you and your chosen warriors have acted today." He looked up at the ranks of assembled Lizardmen who, as if by some unseen signal, all lowered their heads and bowed to acknowledge their submission before the Great One.
"My lord…if this foolish servant may be so bold as to make a request of your mighty name," Crusch spoke up again, causing one or two of the Guardians to seethe at her boldness. "Could you please restore the health and broken bodies of those who fought against your champion, so that they too may formally acknowledge you as their ruler?"
Ainz chuckled good-humouredly which slightly unnerved all those in earshot before directing the request to his champion. "What do you think, Grand Marshal Fengxian? Should I have their bodies restored?"
"I do, my Lord…as Representative Crusch said, they deserve the opportunity to acknowledge our superiority. I also have a few words I would like to speak to them, if I may be permitted?"
"Very well then, bring them before me." Quickly rushing to follow their master's request, the ranks of undead quickly but respectfully brought the broken and unconscious bodies of Zaryusu, Zenberu, Shasuryu, Kyuku and Sukyu before him. Once they were all gathered and laid before him, Ainz directed Mare and Ninya to use their magic to heal their wounds and bring them back to consciousness, the sight of which brought awe and joy to the hearts of the assembled Lizardmen through witnessing the power and compassion of their new ruler.
"Zaryusu!" Upon seeing the one she loved be the first to be brought back to consciousness, Crusch flung herself unashamedly upon him, hugging him tightly. "You're okay! I was so worried!"
"Crusch? What's going on?" Zaryusu asked dazedly as the other chieftains also regained consciousness.
"You and the others were defeated and knocked unconscious, but after hearing my plea the Great Ones showed great compassion in healing your wounds and returning you to us," Crush told him with a small sob. "Oh Zaryusu…" Giving into her relief she leaned in and proceeded to cry all over his shoulder, a show of relief and compassion that lightened the dark hearts of those from Nazarick that were watching.
"If Ise were here, I bet he'd be smiling or shedding a tear at this sight…" Fengxian thought to himself as he came forward to stand before Zaryusu and the others. "Warrior Zaryusu, you and your brethren fought valiantly and with honour this day. Though you may have been defeated, you have all undoubtedly earned my respect for the rest of your days, and I would consider it one of the greatest of honours if you and your brethren would fight alongside us in whatever battles we may face in the future."
For a brief moment, neither Zaryusu nor his brethren knew what to say in response, so flummoxed were they that the Grand Marshal whom they had all fought tooth-and-nail against merely a few moments before was not only formally acknowledging them but also desiring to have them fight by his side in the future. But before they could speak, their attention was diverted to the undead sitting on the throne who chose that moment to address them. "My Grand Marshal speaks wisely, and I share his sentiments…having your strength and valour working alongside us would be a great boon for Nazarick," he added. "And I have already made the vow on my name to treat your people with respect and ensure their prosperity for all time to your fellow chieftain here. All that's left to decide is if the rest of you will willingly share in it."
The rest of the chieftains and Zaryusu looked between themselves, but the reality was they had little choice. They had made the agreement earlier, and as an honourable race, they would stick by their word. And so in full view of their kinsmen, they also pledged their loyalty and servitude to Ainz and Nazarick which pleased the Overlord greatly. "You have made the right choice, and I look forward to watching your people grow and thrive under our rule." He then turned his gaze to Cocytus. "Cocytus, you will remain here as our representative and keep watch over the tribes to ensure they remain loyal. I expect you to give yourself fully to this task."
"You. Honour. Me, Lord. Ainz," Cocytus exclaimed with a deep bow. "I. Shall. Give. My. All. To. See. Your. Wishes. Fulfilled."
"Lord Ainz…I wish to make a request also," Fengxian spoke up, kneeling before his lord. "I would like to take the strongest warriors among the tribes, including those who fought against me, as my bodyguards that I will train personally. Under my tutelage, I will make them the fiercest fighting force in all the land."
"Granted…I will ensure they have a home among us," Ainz acceded. But before anyone else could speak up, Crusch flung herself to the floor before both Supreme Beings, a desperate expression on her face.
"My lords, please hear this unworthy servant's final request!" She begged. But before she could speak further, Albedo had summoned her battle-axe and banged the hilt against the ground in great anger.
"The Supreme Ones have been more than generous towards you and your people…how dare you take advantage of their compassion to indulge your selfish desires!" She snarled, causing the albino chieftain to cower in fear. The other chieftains looked to intercede for her but were stopped by a raised hand from Fengxian.
"That's enough Albedo…let us at least hear them out before you do anything rash," Ainz said to placate the furious Guardian.
"If I may speak, Lady Albedo, I believe the point my lord is making is that he wishes to present himself as an open-minded and benevolent ruler who does his best to listen to the concerns of his people," Demiurge spoke up. "As the supreme ruler, he has every right to deny a request he does not believe to hold any merit, but given how these Lizardmen have willingly surrendered to us and wish to devote themselves to us, it may be prudent to at least hear out what Representative Crusch has to say."
"I see…forgive me for speaking out of turn, Lord Ainz," Albedo apologised with a contrite bow as the rest of the Guardians seemed to once more be in awe at their master's wisdom.
"Thank you, Demiurge…" Ainz stammered before returning his gaze to the prostrating Crusch. "Speak your wish."
"Please, oh gracious one…Zaryusu is very dear to me," Crusch admitted in front of everyone. "Twice now has he nearly died in battle, and that is two times too many for my heart to take. If you could, please…allow me this small mercy. Allow Zaryusu to remain by my side, and we shall lead our people to the best of our ability under Lord Cocytus' supervision."
"Crusch…" Zaryusu breathed. Never would he have thought that Crusch would be so open and honest with her feelings in public.
No one expected the resulting bellowing laughter from the undead that followed. "HAHA! A simple request, and one easily granted. Who am I to stand in the way of love when my son and heir has four beauties of his own?" Albedo and Narberal blushed heavily at their master's words whilst Shalltear looked at her beloved with renewed lust and desire. "So be it. Zaryusu and Crusch will remain here and lead the tribes under Cocytus' guidance. In return, the other chieftains and warriors of their choosing will return to Nazarick with us to train under Grand Marshal Fengxian's expert tutelage."
This met with everyone's approval, and after a short period where those Lizardmen who were journeying to Nazarick bid farewell to their loved ones and relations, Ainz, Fengxian and the rest of the Nazarick forces, minus Cocytus, and those Lizardmen who were leaving with them departed through a Gate back to the Great Tomb.
And so ended the first, but by no means last, military subjugation by the Empire of Nazarick on a foreign territory or kingdom. With the Lizardmen now subdued, they were free to return their attention back to the kingdom of Re-Estize, more specifically the capital where trouble was starting to brew.
And there we have it, the end of the Lizardmen arc! I hope you all enjoyed the ride as much as we did! It was really fun to write for all the chieftains and Zaryusu, and they won't be disappearing completely as the other chieftains are coming back to Nazarick whilst Zaryusu and Crusch get to live their happy love life now that their people are under the rule of the Supreme Ones!
The Albedo-chair was all my co-author's doing and I absolutely loved putting that scene together, especially seeing how turned on Albedo and Shalltear (and to an extent Narberal) were at being treated as mere chairs for Ainz and Henry, and their resulting embarrassment! Adding on to the original scenes was the entire fight between Fengxian and the Lizardmen. I knew I wanted it to be unique since Fengxian is a different style of fighter and I wanted to give the Lizardmen a decent fightback, but at the end of the day he was simply far too strong and overpowered them easily and that had to be shown. But instead of killing them, he let them live so that they could continue to learn from him in the future.
You may be wondering why Ainz was more gracious and respectful in his interaction with the Chieftains. Simply put, Henry's positive karma is having an impact on the way Ainz does things. Whilst Ainz is the ruler, he takes as much advice as he can from his subordinates when he needs a second opinion, and both Henry and Fengxian were instrumental in the subjugation of the Lizardmen being a more peaceful and cordial affair. Plus, they had genuinely earned his respect through their displays in the two battles beforehand.
And as you may have gathered, Henry has a part to play in the next arc. What sort of part, you may be asking? You'll see
(daniel: And this is it for the arc! This has truly been a great ride! And yep, I had way too much fun in the Albedo-chair scene! Plus it's always great to help steer Nazarick into a better direction, as while I'm all for world conquest and domination, doing so in a pragmatic and compassionate manner that benefits all involved is the end goal here.)
For those watching, I hope you enjoy the finale of Attack on Titan tomorrow, and as usual, I will aim to get the next chapter up in two weeks' time. Until then, on behalf of myself and my co-author daniel, thank you all once again for all the love and support you've all shown this story, it really means the world to us, and we'll see you all again in the next chapter of the Nazarick Triumvirate!
