There was once a time when Hyrule, a usually peaceful kingdom, was attacked by an evil being of shadow named Zant and at the same time, threatened by an even darker evil named Ganondorf. However, both were defeated and thwarted by a young hero named Link. Afterward everyone in Hyrule was thankful to the hero even though most didn't know most of the details of how he did it. This in turn gave some fame to his hometown Ordon Village which made many move into and settle down in the village. However, some time after Link saved Hyrule and before any new residents moved to Ordon, the hero left not only the village but the entire Hyrule in order to see the rest of the world knowing he was no longer meant to stay. Many in Hyrule who knew Link missed him well but knew they all had to move on including Link's childhood friend Ilia who a couple years after, married a man about her age who moved into Odon from Castle Town.
Meanwhile, Zelda the princess of Hyrule became queen after Hyrule recovered from the dark event which people started calling the Twilight Invasion and then married the nephew of an old friend of her family.
Between Ordon and Hyrule, things were looking up, especially once Ilia and Zelda each gave birth to a child of their own, however ten years after the Twilight Invasion, Hyrule was forced into war with a kingdom west of Hyrule called Wanlo which intended to take the power of Hyrule. During this war, Hyrule focused mainly on defense hoping to find a chance to end things peacefully though during the process, many good people fighting in the war were killed including both Zelda's husband, who as the royal consort had to lead the Hyrule army, and Ilia's husband, who fought as one of Ordon's best fighters. At one point, the king of Wanlo was killed and even though no one in Hyrule knew how it happened, the remnants of Wanlo's army surrendered and gave up.
With peace restored in Hyrule again, Hyrule decided to not capture anyone from Wanlo and then look toward the future.
