Observing the passing crowd of students from her position by the academy's main gate, Sona Sitri waited for the arrival of Millicas and his peerage. The young hire of the Sitri household couldn't help but dread the upcoming interaction, not in a small part because of her last proper meeting with the youngest Gremory, and all the times they have crossed paths ever since.

'He is going to be a nightmare to deal with.' she knowingly lied to herself in the privacy of her mind while Tsubaki patiently waited by her side. She didn't have anything against Millicas, having grown up together at most his attitude would get her momentary upset with him when he was too much to handle but, for some time now, they have had a complicated relationship. 'I can already feel the upcoming headache of dealing with his attitude, one Gremory is more than enough.'

So distracted was she with her thoughts that she didn't see the object of her distress approaching her until he opened his satan-forsaken mouth to greet her as always managing to upset her with his disregard for the social norms.

"Long time no see Sunny." He said smiling happily at the black-haired King. Sona turned around to see his idiotic face and reflexively took hold of his necklace to drag the taller boy closer to her face while ignoring the surpliced stares of the other students surrounding them.

He knew quite well how she felt about him using that nickname in front of others.

"I told you a thousand times not to call me that Millicas." She said with a restrained growl under her angry tone. At the sight of her angry face, the redhead laughed merrily.

'Still got it!' Millicas thought at how easily he could upset her. She was always so stoic that he came to love getting different expressions out of her. His favourite and the hardest at times to get was the soft smiles she would rarely show others that seemed to illuminate her surroundings like the sun.

Hence his nickname for her.

"I missed you too Sunny." He said teasingly. Sona easily seeing what he was trying to do took a second to ignore the accursed childhood nickname and turned to address her queen, giving the pair of girls behind Millicas no more than a cursory glance.

"Tsubaki please escort Rose-san and Alvan-san to their homeroom teacher." She ordered her friend and right hand.

Not waiting for a second to see if her request was being followed Sona dragged Millicas by his tie to the student council room inside the school building, concentrating more on getting him out of sight than on who the scene looked to others.

As the two high-class devils made their way into the academy Sona thanked Lucifer that Millicas was more interested in seeing the sights of his new place of education than in further bothering her by talking.

The less he talked, the greater the chances were for Sona to end the day without having the one conversation she had been ignoring for a long time.

At the back of her mind, she noticed the looks and whispers that the student they passed on the journey gave them but it wasn't the first time she had dragged a troublemaker to her office so it wasn't out of the ordinary.

In her rush to be done with the redhaired menace, Sona forgot the fact that she normally ordered one of her fellow council members to walk troublemakers to the student council room and the times that she escorted them herself she didn't bodily drag them by the tie as if dragging a misbehaving dog.

Millicas´ smug look certainly wasn't helping the number of rumours the heir of Sitri would have to deal with during the next week thanks to the wild speculations of the student body. Already tales of an illicit romance between the two of them where been spread around the student body.

But that was a story for another time.

Inside the homeroom of class 2-B, the students talked to each other while waiting for their head teacher to arrive and begin the school day.

"Did you hear? It seems we are getting some transfer students coming in today." A girl said to her friends while waiting for their first-period class to begin.

"Yeah Ako-chan from class C saw them by the entrance when she arrived, two girls and a boy." Another one responded.

That wasn't the only conversation about the new transfer students around the room. At the back of the classroom, an infamous trio of male students had their own, if unusually focused, conversation regarding the new transfer students.

"Are you sure you are not going mad Matsuda?" a glass-wearing boy asked his friend fully believing that his friend was crazy.

Known to the student body for his glasses, his black hair and his unnatural ability to correctly measure the three sizes of any girl with a simple look Motohama, the Perverted Glasses and a member of the Perverted Trio couldn't believe the statement that one of his best friends had just shared with them.

"I'm telling you I know what I saw!" a boy with a shaven head angrily explained himself, his fist slamming loudly on his desk to the annoyance of his classmates. "That prude bitch of a president was dragging this delinquent-looking bishōnen I have never seen before to her lair."

With his shaven head, his loud delusions and his obsession with girls of a more petit build if not outright younger age than strictly legal Matsuda was a known member of the Perverted trio nicknamed Perverted Baldy and in the opinion of the majority of the student body the most dangerous of the three In the opinion of many members of the student body with younger siblings.

"We believe that part Matsuda." A boy with spiky brown hair placated his friend with a practised ease having been the designated middleman of the group for a long time. "We are just saying that it is more likely that the guy did something to upset Shitori-Kaichou than they are in some kind of illicit relationship."

The de facto leader of the Perverted Trio known for his love of big breasts and his more down-to-earth nature when compared with his fellow perverts Hyoudou Issei was considered the most harmless of the three even if like his companions he was hated for the harassment of the female population of the academy the trio regularly partake in with their pepping and other perverted activities.

"I'm telling you guys I bet the new guy has some shit on Shitori and right now he is balls deep inside her self-entitled ass," Matsuda said with a lecherous grin.

"I think you spent too much time last night with your doujin man," Motohama responded exasperated at his friend's imagination. He wanted to see the student council president put in her place like any self-respecting pervert would but Matsuda's latest was a touch too unreal.

Their conversation and the others going around the classroom were cut short when the door opened and their sensei finally arrived. Making her way to her desk in front of the chalkboard the middle-aged brown-haired woman addressed her students.

"All right everyone settle down please, I have an announcement to make." The teacher ordered. After a minute or so, all the students moved away from their friend groups and sat on their assigned desks while quieting down. "As some of you may have heard, we have some new transfer students joining us today."

Not paying too much attention to her students exited murmuring between each other the teacher turned slightly to the opened door at the head of the classroom. "You two can come in now."

Under the excited sight of their new classmates, two girls entered the room at the behest of their newly assigned teacher.

The taller one of the two was a shorthaired twin-tailed blond girl with a calm expression on her face, her greenish-blue eyes scanned the room patiently observing the other students. The uniform of the academy accentuated her well-endowed figure nicely, easily catching the eyes of her new male classmates.

The shorter one was a crimson-haired girl eagerly looking at her new classmates with a wide smile and sparkly silver eyes shining with curiosity, her cute demeanour and lovely figure made some of the guys in the room excited to get to know her.

Between the eager whispers exchanged between the students at the sight of their new classmates one of the members of the perverted trio stood out from the rest by the sheer tactless disregard of other opinions of himself and his friends.

"88-60-87cm on the blond and 82-57-89cm on the red one." Motohama shared happily with his fellow perverts, regrettably for them his excitement led to his voice not being as quiet as it should have been making it so nearly everyone in the room heard him showing his 'talent' to his friends.

Instantly recognising what he was talking about from personal experiences with his ability the female members of the class turned around to glare at the perverts, cursing them loudly for their actions. The teacher could only sigh in exasperation as the class descended into madness as it always seemed to do at least once a day not even 5 minutes after starting.

While her master had previously warned her about the trio's notoriety Tarte could feel her anger shimmer underneath the carefully neutral smile she displayed to her new class.

The knowledge that the glasses-wearing pervert had accurately shared her private measurements with the rest of the class, something that she hadn't had the chance to share and show her beloved Master yet, made her furious.

So much so that in the privacy of her mind she began to consider many ways to permanently deal with the boy, from the other student's reaction no one would miss him.

Those plans extended to his balding friend when even over the commotion Tarte could read his lip to see that the one named Matsuda was complying about how much of a shame it was that Ruby was just a little bit taller and curvier than his ideal girl because of how innocent she looked.

The world would be a better place without those two.

However, the hidden assassin was temporarily distracted from her raising anger and murderous plotting by her younger companion tugging softly at her sleeve to get her attention. "Tarte, what did that boy mean by these numbers?" the innocent girl asked whispering in her friend's ear.

'I hope Master is having an easier time with his class.' Tarte thought already exasperated with her upcoming time at the academy and classes hadn't even started yet

Roughly a couple of minutes before Tarte and Ruby joined their new class Millicas and Sona reached the empty room of the Kuoh Academy Student Council.

Having silently followed the fuming girl dragging him across the school Millicas observed the room's decorations while Sona shifted some of the paperwork on her desk around, giving his old friend a moment to focus herself.

The big room was primarily occupied by a multitude of small desks with individual chairs meant to be used by the different members of the student council. Both sidewalls were decorated with three big library-style bookcases each to organize various types of document folders and books. In the centre of the room, a table surrounded by eight chairs separated the entrance of the room from the back. Finally, in the back under the wide windows sat the bigger desk Sona used for her work.

Except for some bits and ends like some tasteful and useful decorations like a tea set, a chessboard and the like the room was perfectly organised if slightly spartan.

Not too dissimilar in Millicas' opinion to how Sona decorated her childhood room back at the Sitri Manor.

"Did you need to call me by that nickname in front of everyone?" Sona finally said after calming down from her embracement-fuelled anger, snapping Millicas from his observation of the room. "We are not children any more Millicas. We are young devils representing our Houses and need to take things more seriously nowadays."

"You say that but from my perspective, you are taking things too seriously," Millicas said in an unapologetic tone of voice. "We haven't seen each other in such a long time you expect me not to be happy with seeing you?"

Hearing his explanation a complicated look settled on the black-haired girl's face, her Amethyst eyes guiltily focusing on the paperwork in her hands to not look Millicas in the eye.

"Has it been that long?" Sona said tensely, trying to ignore the comment and move on from the primary reason she hadn't been looking forward to Millicas attending the academy when Rias first told her of the agreement. "We saw each other during Rias' Birthday party a couple of months ago."

"We barely talked more than a couple of sentences to one another before you gave me the slip." He said, not willing to let the matter drop Millicas fully ignored the attempted dismissal. "If you ignore the social gatherings we were forced to attend to by our status, we haven't properly talked to one another since your 14 birthday, so around 3 and a half years ago."

The remainder of their last proper interaction filled Sona with guilt. She had been doing her best to ignore the feeling ever since that day and even knowing that with him moving into Kuoh the conversation was going to happen sooner or later, she wasn't ready for it.

Sadly for Her, it appeared that Millicas' patience with her had finally run out.

"Millicas." She said, softly pleading with him to not say anything more with just the imploring tone of her voice. Seeing the guilt in her eyes Millicas just took the nearly forgotten paperwork from her hands and quickly signed it after just giving it a cursory glance.

Having known Sona since they were children the thought of her trying to slip some unknown clause in the joint oversee agreement meant to officially add Millicas as an extra owner on the Kuoh territory alongside Rias and Her never even crossed his mind.

A heavy silence filled the room as he signed over the paperwork. "I will drop this by Rias in the afternoon so she can sing it too then I will have it delivered to the underworld for proper filling," Millicas said with a defeated sigh before turning around to leave the room, deciding to just leave their conversation at that and find his assigned classroom by himself.

Even after so long, he couldn't bring himself to hurt her.

"It wasn't because of you." She finally forced herself to say after seeing him walk across the room to the door. The sadness in his eyes and her guilt pushed her to not run away from the conversation this time.

"I know that, Sona." He replied softly. "I understand better than anyone why you did it and I don't blame you for it but it doesn't change the fact that you have been ignoring me ever since you threw away our engagement."

Between the old and storeyed alliance that the Gremory and the Sitri houses have maintained over the millennia ever since their progenitors first stood side by side during the beginning of the great war and the close friendship between Millicas' parents and Sona´s Sister, it hadn't surprised any noble devil when the two households announced the engagement between the two of them when the two pure-blooded devils were young children.

The fact was, that in the original canon timeline, Sona had been engaged to an older devil that she despised and at a young age managed to break the engagement using her skill in chess as a way to do so. But because they were so close in age thanks to the universal calibration, she and Millicas were engaged from in this timeline instead.

However, even if she was content with the engagement at first, 8 years later, by the time she was 14 years old; she challenged the agreement with that same method and broke the arranged marriage with Millicas.

"Both of us were raised by controlling and overbearing families, me with my mother's overprotectiveness and you with your parent's micromanagement of your future as expected of the heir of a pillar family." He said gently to her without turning away from the closed door in front of him.

Seeing that he wasn't even looking her in the eyes while he talked to her hurt more than she expected it to as if a knife was being twisted in her chest.

"So, believe me, I get it. You saw an opportunity to take control of your life, to truly have a choice in something meaningful, and you took it," Millicas said while turning around to look at her guilty expression with sad but compassioned eyes. "Considering the things, I have done and still do to rebel against my controlling parents? The secrets I have kept from my friends and family? I would be the underworld's biggest hypocrite if I didn't understand you, Sunny."

Unable to see him at the moment, Sona let her sight drop to the ground in front of her while leaning against the desk behind her.

There was nothing she could say to him that he didn't know. He had understood her intention back when he willingly accepted her challenge to the chess match that broke their engagement and he still understood her now 3 years later.

Didn't make the guilt she felt at how things had turned out and how much her thirst for control and freedom had hurt him so callously any leaser.

Distracted as she was with her feelings and thoughts Sona didn't realise that Millicas had closed the distance between them until she saw his legs enter her line of sight once he had reached her.

With a gentle touch, he took hold of her chin and raised her face slightly so they could see each other's eyes.

"So even if you broke my heart back then there is no need for you to still feel guilty about it," Millicas said, his voice barely louder than a whisper and a fond smile on his face.

That was the crux of the issue, the reason Sona had tried to cut down their interactions after the engagement was cut off.

While she had been content with the agreement for years, she knew before she challenged it that Millicas was perfectly happy with it.

Because while she was fond of him and liked him, he had been in love with her.

"Just because you have moved on from it, the fact remains that I wounded you with my actions" Sona said remorsefully, her vision wavering slightly as a couple of tears dropped down her beautiful face.

"And I forgave you, just because you are no longer my fiancée doesn't change the fact that you are still my friend and I don't want you to blame yourself for following your heart." He smiled at her widely as his fingers wiped away the teardrops on her face with a kind touch. "At least I hope you are still my friend, as you know I don't have an excessive supply of those."

A heartwarming giggle escaped the distraught young woman as his forgiveness lifted a weight the usually reserved devil had been carrying around for a long time. "Shouldn't I be the one that asks if we are still friends," Sona remarked a small smile finding its way into her face.

Elated at finally moving past the biggest hurdle in restoring his relationship with one of his oldest friends Millicas gave her a wide smile in return.

"Well Sunny, you should know that there is a no-return policy on any friendship you ever acquired with me." He said to her with a slightly arrogant tone of voice. "After all you don't return gifts and my friendship is the greatest gift of all."

Sighing with fond exasperation at his overconfidence and self-assurance Sona felt as if she had walked back in time to when they were just little kids running around the gardens of Gremory Manor with Rias without a care in the world.

"Then I suppose I'm stuck with you for the time being" Sona simply said before moving a little bit closer and hugging her friend tightly. He returned the hug instantly his wide arms encircled her smaller figure, making Sona realize how much he had grown since the last time they hugged each other.

"I missed you, Milly." She whispered into his chest, her head resting against his shoulder.

"I missed you too, Sunny." He replied his face softly nuzzling the top of her head.

After a moment or two the pair stepped away from each other and shared a tender smile, their old friendship rekindled.

Seeing the clock on the desk behind Sona, Millicas realized that he would be late for his first day if he didn't leave quickly, their conversation and reunion had taken a surprisingly long amount of time.

"I should go now or I will be late" He explained with a chuckle.

"You are correct, it would set a bad record if you arrived late on your first day, you already look like a delinquent no need to confirm your classmates' suspicions." She replied teasingly with a tiny smirk on her face.

He turned around and moved back to the closed door only to once again stop before exiting the room.

"Oh, I nearly forgot!" Millicas exclaimed remembering something he wanted to say to her while going over their conversation in his mind.

"Something wrong?" Sona asked.

"Yeah, I didn't want to leave without correcting you about something you said before." He said as he turned around, a serious expression on his face. Looking her in the eye Sona was taken aback by the determination she could see in his eyes.

"I haven't given up." He stated resolutely. Slightly stunned at his declaration Sona couldn't even ask what was he talking about before he continued. "I never stopped loving you."

Sona's heart skipped a beat when she heard him say that.

"The reason you broke our engagement was because you wanted to have a choice in your future." He explained before smiling at her widely. "So as long as it is your choice, I don't need to let go of my love for you I just need to make you fall in love with me."

"What kind of moronic reasoning is that." She said taken back by his heartfelt confession.

Sona could feel her face blush brightly in embarrassment at his declaration, her heartbeat turning into a loud drum that echoed in the background of her mind.

She couldn't process what he was saying, she couldn't fathom how he could still love her like that after how she broke his heart.

Not letting her comment stop him he just narrowed his eyes at her, his smile turning into a confident smirk as if he had found something in her reaction that somehow validated his actions.

"So I Don't care how long it takes Sona Sitri," Millicas said loudly using her name instead of his nickname for her to show how serious he was being with his declaration.

"Be it a day, a year, a decade or a century as long as you don't say to my face that you can't ever love me back and mean it from the bottom of your heart, I will always love you." He said before his tone shifted, his eyes looking at her with so much affection in them that she couldn't respond to him.

"And I will make you fall in love with me" he finished in a tender tone of voice. His piece said she turned around one last time and left the stunned girl alone to her thoughts.

It was only after the bell signalling the start of the school day that Sona could control her conflicting emotions and her widely beating heart enough to speak again.

"How can you say something like that with a straight face?" She complained out loud to the empty room. "Idiotic Milly."

Unseen by everyone, the usually stoic girl was smiling while she complained about her stupid childhood friend.

A smile so bright that illuminated the room like the morning sun.
