Chapter 5: Animal Cracker Lover

Alpha stepped into the cell of their latest inmate, cutting off her conversation with her stick-in-the-mud holy weapon. The blonde elf had a plastic bag held in her hands as she approached the Princess. "Princess, 'tis time for torture."

Ex glared at the dangerous elven woman. "What dastardly plan do you plan to use against the Princess today, Alpha?!"

Alpha smirked in confidence, reaching into her bag to reveal her latest torture method. She held out the item with a strong declaration. "Today's torture shall begin with this bag of Animal Crackers!" It was a silly colorful bag filled with crackers that were shaped into cute animal designs. The cartoon illustration on the bag was of a dog dressed like a detective. "Our intelligence division has received an important tidbit of information about the Princess' sweet tooth. These sugary treats shall make do for today."

If capable of doing so, Ex would've wiped the sweat from his hilt. "I'll be honest, you nearly had me there, Alpha. It is true that the Princess indeed has a sweet tooth, however she has only revived the most balanced and delicious of sweets from our top chefs! A bag of treats that can be acquired from any common store would never-"

CRUNCH!

"Princess?"

Princess froze as she chewed on one of the animal crackers. It seems that during his usual spiel the young Princess had taken the bag from Alpha and started eating it. Sweat poured down her face as her holy weapon continued to burn holes through her skull. "Why are you already eating them?"

"PFFFT!" Princess spat out the crackers before she could swallow them. "W-WHAT?! M-My body must've reflexively reached for the bag! C-could Miss Alpha have put some spell on me?!"

"No, no, this is a result of your desires running rampant."

"Curse you, Miss Alpha! Using your deceptive tricks against me!"

"Again, she didn't do anything."

Ex went ignored again as the Princess and Alpha squared off against one another. The Princess stood with the respectable air of someone with her status. "Don't underestimate me, Alpha! I'm still the Captain of the Legion's Third Imperial Army! I was once surrounded by over 100 beasts during a winter storm! Having spent all of my stamina and with no sensation left in my hands, my lungs were burning, my body was freezing, yet I never felt fear! I never gave up, swinging my holy blade until the very end!" She looked back down at the delicious bag of treats, remembering the taste in her mouth moments prior.

"T-this pathetic excuse for a torture…" She tossed the bag away, which was caught by Alpha. "WILL NEVER MAKE ME SUBMIT!" Princess declared with a childish burst.

"Good work, Princess!" Ex exclaimed, then turned his attention back to Alpha. "How's that, Alpha?! The Princess won't bow her royal crown to some pathetic treat! Crackers aren't anything special!"

"Ex…!"

"Eh?" He looked over to see the Princess was giving him a death stare.

"Don't ever insult Animal Crackers again. They're the treats of the Gods." She threatened.

"Y-yes…my bad!"

Alpha didn't look worried at all, in fact, she smiled at the Princess. "I see, it seems you've grown stronger, Princess." Her compliment caused the prisoner to blush with a goofy smile. "However, I never believed that would be enough to defeat you."

"W-what?!" Princess gasped.

The blonde elf pulled out something else from her bag, a skinny long container. She held the crackers under her arm as she tore the container open slowly. A familiar sweet scent attacked the Princess' nose, blowing her back into the cell's wall like a punch to the gut.

"P-Princess?!"

Princess struggled to her feet, panting heavily, her eyes showing disbelief. "N-no… Miss Alpha, you wouldn't!"

"Yes. Hot melted chocolate." Alpha revealed her newest piece. She dipped a cracker into the chocolate, slowly pulling it out to ensure the Princess got a good look at it. "Would you like to try it?"

"Y-you can't, Princess!" Ex shouted as he watched his valiant wielder take the chocolate covered cracker from Alpha. "For the hope and safety of our kingdom, you must endure it!" Princess took a small bite of the chocolate cracker. "Princess!"

The young girl fell to her knees as her eyes exploded with color. "T-this taste! The crunchiness of the cracker fused with the melted sweet texture of the chocolate feels like a symphony of glee on my taste buds! I-I-I must endure!"

"Oh Princess, by the way…" Alpha gained the Princess' attention. "There's a special golden penguin cracker hidden inside the bag."

"It's over."

The Princess talked.

Alpha examined the newly gained secret. "I see, so the King enjoys spending his weekends walking on the beach. This could prove useful for the future."

Behind her, the Princess continued dipping her animal crackers into the hot chocolate. She giggled happily when she found the special golden penguin cracker. "I finally found it! I'm gonna savor this one for as long as I can~!"

Ex just sighed, wondering why he still has any hope left.
