It was a calm day in Cabot Cove, Maine where the weather was still warm enough to have the windows open as the songs from the birds and the crash of the waves filled the house along with the sea scent – creating a calming vibe in the home of Jessica Fletcher as she placed two mugs of coffee down on her kitchen table where she sat with her dear friend Seth Hazlitt.
"We certainly have to invite Leanne Cole, Henry Matthews and Jason Watson. They've been instrumental in helping me writing the book."
Jessica commented as they were discussing who to invite to the party to celebrate the release of her most recent book and she had her former students, Leanne, Henry, and Jason help her write it.
They had also heard of Leanne and Henry's recent break – up and Jessica was hoping that the party would help distract Leanne and Henry and allow them to talk cordially to one another unlike the fight she had happen to overhear a few days prior.
Seth nodded and one name popped into his head,
"Sure, Jess, but what about inviting Perry Mason? The famous defense lawyer in LA? His receptionist, private investigator, and secretary are big fans of your books. I'm sure they would all be tickled pink to receive an invitation."
Jessica thought about it for a few minutes as she nodded,
"Sure, why not? Besides, I've always wanted to meet him." Jessica and Seth smiled as they continued to make the guest list for the party.
Once the invites were sent and a few days had passed,
It was the nicest day in Suite 904 in the Brent Building in Los Angeles, CA with Della sorting through the mail as the team was wrapping up their current case as she gasped with delight,
"Gertie, come here!" She motioned Gertie to her side as the receptionist practically ran to Della's side with a smile as they looked at the envelope and giggled seeing who it was from while Paul Drake Jr walked in and smiled at his Aunts as he chuckled,
"What gives, ladies? You two are grinning like Cheshire cats." Della smiled and handed him the envelope as he looked up with a childlike grin,
"Wow, Uncle Perry's pretty lucky. I love her books, especially her most recent one although I haven't finished it, it's pretty good so far."
Perry Mason was working in his office – finishing up work when he heard the rather excited chattering from just outside his door as he walked out with a smile,
"Uncle Perry, here." Paul said as he handed Perry the envelope as he looked at it.
"Jessica Fletcher. Huh, I wonder what she has to say."
He opened the envelope to reveal an invitation,
"Jessica's inviting me to a party she's throwing to celebrate the release of her most recent book." Della smiled as Paul spoke up,
"You and Aunt Della go. Aunt Gertie and I can hold down the fort here. Right, Aunt Gertie?" Paul asked as he looked to Gertie as she smiled,
"Go on, Mr. Mason. You've worked hard on this most recent case; you and Miss Street deserve a vacation." Perry nodded with a small laugh,
"Say no more, go on. I'll call Jessica now." The group dispersed as Perry placed the call as Jessica's phone rang,
"Hello?"
"Is this Jessica Fletcher? Perry Mason speaking."
Jessica smiled,
"Hi, Mr. Mason. I take it you got my invitation."
Perry nodded with a chuckle,
"Yes, and I'm calling to accept it with one condition, that I can bring my secretary, Miss Della Street, with me. Our private investigator and receptionist encouraged us to go. We just finished a case here in LA and that we needed the vacation."
Jessica grinned,
"Of course you can bring her. To be honest, I've been wanting to meet you for quite some time. We've heard of your triumphs in the court room here in Cabot Cove and it would be an honor to have you come out here to our small community."
Perry smiled as he felt a blush creep onto his cheeks,
"Then it's settled. Della and I will be out to Cabot Cove in the next few days."
Jessica smiled,
"Can't wait to see you in person. Have a nice day, Mr. Mason."
Perry chuckled,
"Call me Perry."
Jessica smiled,
"Call me Jessica. Goodbye, Perry. See you soon."
Once Perry hung up the phone and Della walked in,
"Go home and start packing for Maine. We leave in two days."
I hope you all enjoy this.
