Barry Allen couldn't help but sigh as he looked at the calendar and saw today's date. March 18, 2013, as in the 13 year anniversary of the day his mom died. He could still remember that night clearly as day. In fact, it would be near impossible for him to forget that day. Or rather, that night.
The day itself had been normal. Well, aside from the fact that Barry once again had to deal with the fact that his father was gone. Henry Allen had vanished off the face of the earth when he was supposedly at a medical conference, but Barry had never believed that. He had memories of his father leaving for days at a time and always coming back with these weird explanations. Until the day he hadn't.
So that had left Barry to be raised by his now single mother Nora, who he could tell was still holding out hope that one day her husband would return. But it wasn't just the two of them, because Barry also had a little sister, Chloe Allen, who'd been 3 years old at the time.
But then everything had changed that night. Barry had woken up hearing Chloe's cries and he also heard something happening downstairs but first, we went to check on Chloe.
"Is everything okay Chloe?" Barry asked his little sister.
"I had a bad dream." Chloe whimpered as she let her big brother hug her.
"It's okay. Why don't we go downstairs and get some fresh water to help you calm down and also get mom to help you." Barry said and Chloe nodded, right as they felt the house begin to shake.
"What's that Barry?" Chloe asked him.
"I don't know." Barry said as he picked his little sister up and went downstairs to investigate.
When they arrived in the living room, both Barry and Chloe were horrified at what they saw.
Their mother, looking more terrified than either of them had ever seen before, was surrounded by what looked like a tornado of red and yellow lightning.
"Mom!" Barry shouted.
"Barry, take Chloe and get out of here. Run!" Nora shouted, since despite her terror at what was happening, her concern for her children won out.
However, Barry was frozen in shock and terror, he couldn't get his feet to move, despite hearing his little sister's cries as he managed to make out something in the lightning. What looked like a man in a yellow suit, but before he could give it any more thought, suddenly, in a blur of yellow lightning, he and Chloe were in the middle of the street and he could hear the sirens blaring as Chloe screamed her head off and held onto Barry for dear life.
"What just happened?" Barry asked as he rushed home to see his dad's friend and the father of his best friend Iris, Joe West in front of the house as the police had arrived.
"Barry, Chloe, thank god you're both okay. How did you get out here?" Joe asked as he rushed up to them, quickly taking Chloe from Barry's arms and tried to calm her down as she kept calling out for her mommy.
"I don't know. Joe, is my mom okay?" Barry asked and before Joe could respond or stop him, he rushed inside to see cops in the house and saw something covered by a blanket.
"Barry, don't." Joe said, trying to stop him, but Barry was too quick and ran over to the blanket and pulled it away to see his mother's dead face with a stab wound in her chest.
"Mom." Barry said as he fell to his knees.
"Barry, I promise we will find who did this." Joe said as he helped Barry up and led him back outside, already making plans to take him and Chloe in, since he couldn't stand the idea of letting them go into the system and he knew Iris would never forgive him if he did.
