"Hello" = Normal Talking

'Hello' = Thinking

[Hello] = Telepathy

Anyway.

Enjoy.

A vast expanse of darkness surrounded him. He didn't know for how long he stayed there, but every time his consciousness came back, the only thing he saw was darkness.

That was until, while he was "Sleeping", a bright light enveloped him.

Cosette was walking to Sycamore's laboratory. The professor was going to send her to retrieve a zigzagoon for the lab. The poor thing had been abandoned by a trainer. Sadly, said trainer was never found, he was smart enough to use an unmarked pokeball.

She is used to these types of tasks befitting an errand girl, but her being the newest assistant at the lab doesn't help.

She won't quit though. All of those sleepless nights at college will not be wasted. Since she was offered a place as an assistant in Sycamore's lab, she knew her suffering was worth it. And it's not like she hasn't done anything at the lab, her contributions have already made strides in the study of Pokemon change, enough to earn the professor's trust and let her in on the secret he has been studying for the last couple of years.

Mega evolution, or at least that's what the professor and someone named the "Mega Evolution Guru" called it. The ability for Pokemon to evolve beyond their normal limit when both the Pokemon and the trainer have some type of bond. The technicalities are not clear since information about the phenomenon is sparse, along with the fact that the stones needed for triggering evolution are incredibly rare. However, there is a theory about type energy being somewhat related to them.

She yawned as she looked around the streets of Lumiose City. Compared to other big cities in the world, Lumiose was quite pleasant to be in. It was clean, and the streets were not filled with people frantically walking to their jobs like in Castelia. She still remembers her brief time in that city… It was incredibly stressful. Even if she herself wasn't in a hurry, watching people like that just stressed her for some reason.

Cosette was brought out of her thoughts by the sight of a young girl with lavender-colored hair lying on an empty street. She looked quite frail, as if a simple breeze would take her away. This sight was, while not unheard of, incredibly rare in Lumiose. And even then, they would never get to this point. Cosette was tempted to just call the police and let them take care of her, but looking at her, it was clear that she needed food urgently.

Cosette proceeded to approach the girl and lift her. 'She's so light…' She thought. The girl barely weighed anything, probably because of malnutrition. 'How did it get this bad?'

In the end, she decided to just run to the lab and ask Professor Sycamore for help, since it was the closest place she could take her to.

He opened his eyes and saw the face of a girl with magenta-colored hair and brown eyes. She was frowning.

That was all he saw before sleep took him again.

Cosette arrived at the door. Since her hands were occupied, she used her feet to knock on the door. "Professor Sycamore! Sophie! Alain! I need your help here!" She called and waited. Moments later, Sophie opened the door.

"What's wrong Cose-" She looked at the girl in Cosette's arms, the girl looked incredibly frail.

"I found her on the street… We have to help her."

"...Bring her to one of the guest rooms, I'll call Professor Sycamore." She said, before running to Prof. Sycamore's office. Meanwhile, Cosette brought the girl to the guest room and laid her on the bed.

'How did she end up like this?' Cosette thought, concerned about the girl's well-being.

Suddenly, said girl twitched and slowly opened her eyes…

'Where…?' The girl looked around the room, still confused about where she was. The only things she could remember were walking back from a friend's house, then a vast expanse of darkness, and then the face of a girl with magenta-colored hair.

It was incredibly confusing.

She also felt… weak… Incredibly so. She could barely move her arms, and getting up was a herculean struggle.

Also… 'Why am I referring to myself as a woman?' Before she could notice the serious lack of her "Little brother", she was brought out of her thoughts by a voice from her right.

"You are awake!" Cosette said loudly. To that, the reincarnated groaned and held her head.

"Too… Loud…" A hoarse voice came out.

"Ah! Sorry… How do you feel?"

"Um…" She was definitely hungry and thirsty, but she didn't want to say it so as to not impose on her.

"Hmm… you look hungry… Don't worry! Professor Sycamore will bring you food!"

'Sycamore? That name reminds me of something…' The girl looked at her savior. '...Isn't that one of Professor Sycamore's assistants from the Pokemon anime? I didn't watch Pokemon XY so I'm not sure…'

"What's your name, miss?"

"Uhhh…" 'W-What was my name? I… I can't remember…?' She couldn't recall her name. No matter how hard she tried to remember, she just couldn't. She also noticed how any and all memories of her family were gone. Did she even have any family? "I… c-can't re- *Cough*"

"Stop! I understand you… let me bring you some water," Cosette said, before leaving the room.

'... What is happening? Sycamore? I'm sure I've heard that name before…'

"Hel?"

'Hm?' She heard a strange muffled sound from her right. Looking to her right, she noticed a curtain covering a window. "He- *cough* H-Hello?"

"Heli! Helioptile!"

'Helioptile? Isn't that a poke-' Then it clicked! Sycamore. That's the name of the professor in the X and Y Pokemon games! 'N-No way…' Using all of her remaining strength, she reached for the curtains and pulled…

'...C-Cute!' Was the first thought that passed through her head when she saw the creature. It reminded her of a lizard. A goofy-looking one though. It has a mostly yellow body, with the tip of its tail, head, and feet black.

The helioptile waved at her, before turning around and walking off.

From where she was looking, she could only see the Pokemon and a bit of grass, as such, she used all of her remaining strength to position herself in front of the glass and look outside. When she did, she was at a loss for words. "Wow…" Wherever she looked, there were Pokemon. She could see a small group of Weedle and Caterpie on the branches of a tree, below them were two Kakuna hanging from the same branch, and in the trunk of the tree, a single Metapod.

A little bit farther away was a group of water-type Pokemon like Azurill, Psyduck, and even a Squirtle hanging out on a small lake. She could swear she saw some other Pokemon that seemed to be camouflaged from the rest of the water types.

But the most amazing, and kind of terrifying Pokemon out of all of the ones she could see in the garden, was an absolutely beautiful and massive Garchomp. She sat on the ground, looking out for any problem that arose in the garden. The dragon noticed her staring… and waved at her, before resuming her watch.

'... A Garchomp waved at me… Am I in a dream?' She pinched her cheek. "Ouch!..." She wasn't. If the pain she was feeling throughout all of her body wasn't telling enough.

Pokemon… magical fictional creatures from the franchise of the same name. To think that she would ever get to meet such wonderful creatures. The most amazing thing is that it was instantly noticeable how intelligent they are compared to the normal animals she knows. A normal animal wouldn't wave at her and look like they meant it. These were creatures with intelligence comparable to humans, the only reason they don't make cities and governments the same way humans do is because they are held back by their own instincts. Though they don't seem to mind this, they are more than satisfied being companions to humans or living alone or with their packs.

A knock on the door brought her out of her mindscape and back to the real world. Entering the room was none other than Professor Sycamore, the man had black hair and wore black dress pants with a blue shirt and a lab coat. He had the look of a man you could depend on. 'And man… He is good-looking!'

"You must be our new visitor, right?" He said. She tried to say something, but her dry mouth couldn't form words anymore. Suddenly, a blue cat-like Pokemon, a male Meowstic, appeared in the room with a glass of water, the psychic cat levitated the glass and gave it to the girl, who greedily gulped down the whole glass. The glass then disappeared along with the Pokemon, before appearing again with a full glass and giving it to the girl.

She wanted to ask what pokemon that was, but the state of her throat didn't let her. Sycamore noticed this though.

"Meowstic. He's our resident psychic Pokemon. He seems to have taken an interest in you. I wonder, why's that?" Meowstic locked eyes with Sycamore, and then a look of understanding appeared on the professor's face. "I see… Oh! I haven't introduced myself, haven't I? I'm the regional professor of Kalos, Augustine Sycamore. A pleasure to meet you, miss." He said. "It seems you are not in shape to talk normally, as such, I would normally use the assistance of Meowstic over her. But there seems to be a problem… He can't read your mind for some reason… He described it as if there was a wall blocking him from entering the surface layer of your mind."

'Reading my mind? He said something about the surface layer… so maybe that "Layer" is the one most accessible to psychic Pokemon or something like that?... Maybe I can give him access or something?' She tried doing… something… but it's hard to do it when you don't have some kind of reference.

"I see what you are trying to do there… Meowstic said that you should try to envision it like opening a door," The professor said, and she began to do just that. After a bit of trying, she could finally hear something.

[Hel- Hello? Ah! Can you hear me now, young lady?] A voice in her mind said, Meowstic if she had to guess. It sounded way too deep for a cute little cat.

[Before I connect you with my master, I would like to explain how this telepathy works. Right now, we are connected using only the surface layer of our minds, which means I can only hear what you want me to hear, your deeper thoughts are still hidden from me. Think of it like talking out loud and thinking inside your mind, I can only hear one.]

'That is… Incredible! That means he can't hear what I'm thinking right now, right?' Going by the lack of response, the answer seems to be yes.

[Now, try to talk to me. Don't worry if you don't get it the first time.] She decided to envision it like talking with her mouth, having an image of herself talking inside her mind.

[Umm… Can you hear me?]She said, noting how her voice sounded feminine rather than masculine. 'Maybe my… uhhh… "Inside voice" or something? Sounds the same way as my normal voice?'

[I can hear you loud and clear, miss. You have a nice voice] Hearing that compliment made her blush a little. [Now I'll connect you with Master Sycamore if it isn't too much of a problem.]

[It's ok] With her permission, Meowstic connected the transmigrator and the professor. She noticed how a third "Presence" entered their "Link".

[Sorry for going about it in such a roundabout way… But since you can't talk normally at the moment, I felt this way was better, especially since we wanted to ask you something in a more private manner.]Sycamore said. [Don't worry about the food, Sophie should be preparing something right now.]

[Thanks… Umm… So what did you want to ask me?] She asked.

[Meowstic wanted to know how you have mental protection. It's not uncommon for some people to have it, but usually, there's always a visible psychic Pokemon providing it, since Pokeballs seem to mess with psychic abilities… But there isn't any Pokemon giving you that protection]

'Mental protection? I have one? That's…' [I'm not sure… everything feels hazy since I woke up. I can't even remember my name…]

'Maybe some psychic blocked her memories… That's troublesome…' Thought Sycamore.

[Hmm… Meowstic didn't detect any falsehood in your words, which honestly just makes things more complicated. But anyway, I'm sure we can solve this issue later. Food is coming!]

Just as he said that, Sophie entered the room with a tray of food. "You aren't in the best shape, so we'll start with tiny amounts of food. Are you okay with that, sweetie?" Sophie said in a sweet tone, receiving a nod from the girl.

"Since you can't remember your name, how about we come up with one now?" The professor suggested.

'A new name…? Indeed, I don't know how to refer to myself now, but it feels like abandoning my previous identity this fast may be bad… But maybe there's a reason why I can't remember anything about my life before…' She noticed her lack of… freaking out about being somewhere else besides home, which is probably because of her missing memories.

[Can I think it over? It feels weird abandoning my previous name, even if I can't remember it…]

"That's ok, we'll let you eat first."

After enjoying her first meal since waking up, she was left on her own to think. The girl looked outside the window to the garden, utterly fascinated by the Pokemon living their lives in the garden, especially that massive garchomp

'So… beautiful…' The games did not do justice to how beautiful and imposing garchomp was. She had no doubts that the dragon would have no problem ending her with a simple swipe of its claw.

This specific one though radiated a serene and protective aura. It was clear what her purpose was.

'... What now…' Finally out of her internal gushing over the powerful dragon, her thoughts finally came to the more important topic.

Her mind, to put it simply, was a mess.

She was sure she had a life before this, but any time she tried to remember details from it, the only thing that came up could be best described as "static".

She could only remember very minute details, like what she was doing before waking up in this world.

She was laying on her bed, petting her cat, and listening to music in silence.

The only things she could remember were the minimum needed to actually function as a normal human.

And that maybe, just maybe, she was a man before ending up here. But even that was blurry.

The only thing she could remember with absolute clarity was, of course, Pokemon.

'... It's kind of weird to remember only that. But honestly? I'm glad.' She could not completely tell you why she thought this, but she had a feeling that, in her own words, "It was for the better"

She had to be honest with herself, the chances of returning to her own "world" were miniscule. 'I mean, is there even a point in returning if I don't have any attachments?...'

'Ah… I'm… crying?'; Touching her cheeks, she felt the wet feeling of her tears… "But why? I don't feel sad…" More tears came after, which was confusing for her. 'Why?'

[Is something wrong, miss?] A deep voice asked her. Turning her head away from her hands, she saw meowstic standing in the middle of the room. [... You seem sad]

[Ah… I'm not… it's just, I can't seem to stop crying for some reason. I don't actually feel sad]

The meowstic seemed to ponder for a moment, before looking back at her… then disappearing and reappearing on the girl's lap. [You are not the first person to have gone through a similar thing. Though rare, there are cases of people appearing without memory of their pasts. Even weirder, there is never a trace of them in any database. It's as if they never existed in the first place.]

The meowstic sat himself on the girl's lap, leaning on her stomach. [One thing they all share in common is that all of them have a tendency to suddenly start crying, even without feeling sad.]

'So there's probably more people like me?... Though it does sound like what happens in Alola…' The girl rested her head on Meowstic's head and hugged him.

[While I'm not completely sure if it will work, I hope my presence will help alleviate whatever is making you cry]

They stayed like this for multiple minutes, her tears slowly subsiding. 'Somehow… I do feel better…' A warm feeling arose in her chest. [Thanks, Meowstic]

[I'm glad I can be of service]

Soon, sleep took her.

(A.N)

I really like Meowstic.

I started writing this one a while ago, but forgot about it. Now I'm picking it up again, if at least to finish the first chapter. I always wanted to make a Pokemon fanfic.

Romance will not be a big part of this fic, there may not even be any romance at all…

I do like romance though… so maybe?

I finished writing this while listening to "Rainy Day, Teary Day" from FGO and "Lingering Traces" by Sayaka Yamamoto.

I wonder what Pokemon I should give her as a starter…

Why Kalos as the starting region? Because Pokemon Y was the first Pokemon game I completed when I was younger, so it has a special place in my heart (Even with all it's problems). (I technically played black 2 first, but I only had that game in English and I didn't know English at the time)
