Kouga moved swiftly and silently through the dense forest, his senses heightened as he searched for prey. The early morning sun filtered through the canopy, casting dappled light on the forest floor. The air was crisp and fresh, filled with the sounds of nature awakening for the day.
He paused, crouching low to the ground, and listened. The rustle of leaves and the distant call of a bird reached his ears, but he focused on the faint sound of movement nearby. Kouga's keen eyes caught a glimpse of a deer grazing in a clearing up ahead.
With a practiced ease, he began to close the distance, his movements fluid and controlled. The muscles in his legs tensed as he prepared to spring. In an instant, he launched himself forward, covering the distance in a blur of speed.
The deer sensed danger too late. Kouga's powerful leap ended in a swift, clean capture. He held the animal with respect, a silent thanks for the sustenance it would provide his pack.
Kouga quickly and efficiently prepared the deer, ensuring that nothing would go to waste. He knew the importance of providing for his pack, especially with whelping season and the needs of the pups growing every day. His thoughts briefly wandered to Kagome, who had shown such concern for the pack's well-being. Her presence was a comforting thought as he worked.
After securing the deers legs and gutting it, Kouga hoisted it over his shoulder and began the journey back to the den. His path took him through the forest and up the rocky terrain leading to the mountain entrance. The scent of pine and earth filled his senses, grounding him in the moment.
As he approached the den, he could hear the familiar sounds of his pack. The pups were playing near the entrance, their laughter and playful growls a welcome noise. Ginta and Hakkaku were busy with their morning duties, ensuring the den was secure and organized.
Kouga entered the main den, greeted by nods and smiles from his pack members. He made his way to the central area where they prepared food and set the deer down. Ayame, looking radiant in her pregnancy, approached with a curious smile.
"Kouga, you've returned with a good catch," she remarked, her eyes flicking to the deer meat.
He nodded, a satisfied grin on his face. "We'll have a feast tonight. How are you feeling?"
Ayame placed a hand on her belly, her expression softening. "Better, thanks to Kagome's tea. It really helps with the nausea."
Kouga's heart warmed at the mention of Kagome. "I'm glad to hear that. Kagome is amazing. She cares so much for everyone."
Ayame nodded in agreement. "She does. And she's strong too, to travel all this way with you."
Kouga chuckled, his eyes glinting with pride. "She insisted on walking, you know. Wanted to enjoy the journey."
As they spoke, Kagome emerged from one of the tunnels, her eyes brightening at the sight of Kouga. She walked over, her smile radiant.
"Kouga! You're back. How was the hunt?" she asked, her voice filled with genuine curiosity and concern.
"Successful," Kouga replied, his grin widening. "We have enough meat for a few days."
Kagome's eyes lit up with gratitude. "That's wonderful. Thank you, Kouga."
He felt a swell of pride at her words, the connection between them growing stronger with each passing moment. "It's all for the pack, and for you."
Kagome blushed slightly, her cheeks tinged with pink. "I appreciate it. We all do."
Several of the pack members came over to retrieve the deer from next to Kouga and begin preparing it to roast. The hunting party had come back with several deer, boars, and some foraged herbs and vegetables.
Kouga headed towards the waterfall to rinse off, Kagome following after him as they discussed the hunt and what foraging was available locally to the den. The flow of conversation putting both of them at ease.
Kouga stood underneath the falls letting the cold water run over his heated skin as Kagome was pulled away by a pack member to discuss some herbal remedy she gave them. He paused another moment, before walking back out and shaking out his fur and hair.
"Ack! Kouga! You're getting me all wet!" Kagome raised her arms to block the rain of water coming from Kouga.
He smirked as he slowly approached her. "Am I now..?"
Kagome backed away with her hands raised. "Now Kouga, theres no need to-" Kouga pounced. Hugging her and wiping his wet arms all along her waist and back. She pushed against his chest and pulled free squealing as she ran away. Kouga followed after shaking water off of him at her as he went. The den filled with their squeals and laughter.
