Some days pass, with Sonic once again undergoing several adventures that, while exciting, are not too dissimilar to how they happened in another universe. Aside from one adventure involving one certain E.V.E., the Exceptionally Versatile Evolvanoids, created by Robotnik as a way to defeat Sonic by having an enemy that would evolve and adapt to her fighting style. During the climax of that fight, E.V.E. found that Robotnik was the reason why she could not go beyond her limit, and so saw fit to try and destroy him.

Sonic: "Hold it!"

Robotnik: "Huh!?"

Tails: "Huh!?"

E.V.E.: "Sonic the Hedgehog. Do you see some form of flaw in my logic? Robotnik's DNA is the reason why I am held back from my true potential."

Sonic: "No, I don't see any flaws in that logic; the guy is a cone shaped dunce through and through, but that shouldn't be any reason to destroy him! It's not him that's holding you back; it's your own programming!"

This caused E.V.E. to pause. Her programming?

E.V.E.: "My… programming? Explain."

Sonic: "Look. You really are the strongest opponent I've fought so far. That is a fact. But it's the fact you are so hyper focused on one objective that holds you back. You can be whoever you want to be… You are no longer under Robotnik's control."

E.V.E. looks down at Sonic; though her logic was mostly sound, Sonic's argument had much greater impact. Feeling enlightened, E.V.E. began to transform for the final time…

E.V.E.: "You are right, Sonic. I am no longer anyone's puppet. My life is my own to follow. Thank you, Sonic. I see what you see now… True freedom!"

With those words, the brain thing gives her body the shape of a butterfly as she breaks through the citadel in order to fly into the stars above, leaving Mobius for good. Tails, Robotnik, and Snively were all shocked to see Sonic not only talk a creation of the doctor's out of murder, but also save said doctor.

Tails: "S-Sonic… You… You saved Robotnik? But why?"

Sonic: "Simple answer? I'll beat Robotnik on my own terms. Ain't that right, blubber bottoms?"

Sonic turns her gaze to the tip-toeing duo who are trying to get away while they could. Robotnik, seeing the jig is up, simply recomposes himself as he walks up to Sonic, glaring down at her.

Robotnik: "Oh what? You want a 'thank you' for saving my life? You insult me if you think I was in any danger."

Sonic: "I don't expect nothing from you, tubby. If there is ever a day for our fight, I'll be the one to take you down. Not some robot you have no control over."

Robotnik: "I hope you realize the grave mistake you've made sparing my life, hedgehog. I'll make you regret every second of it."

Sonic: "Shove it up your big nose. C'mon, Tails!"

Sonic leaves Robotropolis with Tails following close behind her…

Robotnik: "...Bah. Snively! It's time to get back to work! Today was a waste of time and resources…"

Snively: "O-Of course, sir…"

After that, some time would pass… Sally went out on some secret mission without her friends, instead taking some new trainees out on this excursion. However, during that time, Sonic and her friends had some peace time to themselves. Today, in fact, Sonic decided to do something she rarely does on her own… Fishing!

Sonic: "Nice weather… No Robotnik… And the sound of the gentle waves… Perfect for fishing…"

Sonic throws her line out as she relaxes on her chair. She crosses her leg over the other as she smiles.

Sonic: "...Me and Uncle Chuck used to fish all the time when he was still around… Letting E.V.E. get rid of that jerk Robotnik would have solved all of our problems… Heck, we would have Uncle Chuck back by now… But it wouldn't feel right to me. I guess it would be… anticlimactic…"

As she spoke to no one in particular, the sound of someone approaching caught her attention. Her ear perks up as she turns to see… Sally Acorn.

Sonic: "Sally? You're back early. Everything go okay with your mission?"

Sally: "Oh! Yeah! Everything went swell. What're you up to?"

Sonic: "Casual fishing. Might as well enjoy the day, right?"

Sally: "Oh yeah, sure. But I think you might enjoy swimming with the fishes better."

Sonic was confused by that, but then, Sally kicks Sonic's chair knocking her into the water with a splash. As Sonic spits out the water, she sees Sally run off, much to her confusion.

Sonic: "Huh… Weird… I don't mind some rough housing, but that was really not cool…"

She says as she squeezes the water out of her quills.

Shortly after drying herself off, Sonic walks into Knothole Village just in time to hear someone shout for help. Reacting without a second thought, Sonic runs to where the shouting came from to find a shop ransacked.

Sonic: "Whoa… Did a tornado come by or something?"

As she questioned that, she saw Rotor inside, looking quite calm as he held a notepad.

Sonic: "Yo, Rotor! Did you see whoever wrecked the joint?"

Shop Owner: "I did! It was him!"

The shop owner shouted angrily, pointing at the calm Rotor. This left Sonic confused as she stared at Rotor.

Rotor: "Dunno what he's talking about, Sonic. I was just giving his shop an evaluation. And there's one thing missing."

Sonic: "Uh… And what's that?"

After asking, Sonic is struck on the head by a baseball bat, knocking her to the floor with a nasty bump. Rotor then just walked out.

Rotor: "There wasn't an unconscious hedgehog on the ground. Hyuck hyuck hyuck!"

The shop owner checks to see if Sonic was okay; aside from a nasty bump on the head and being slightly dazed, she was pretty much okay.

Sonic's Thoughts: "Ow, that really hurt… First Sally was acting weird and now Rotor? Something is up and it's really getting on my last nerve."

The sound of screeching wheels on dirt caught her attention as she rushes outside. She finds Antoine driving like crazy down the streets of Knothole Village, almost hitting civilians as he drove.

Sonic: "Antoine! Okay, if you're in control over that car, you better be ready to get a ticket… And a beating…"

Sonic rushes to get people out of the way as Antoine swerves around, laughing like a lunatic. As he turned back to try and ram an apple stand, Sonic got in front of the stand and quick charged a Spin Dash, aiming to cut the car in half. But as Antoine sped towards Sonic, he smiles and turns the car slightly before slamming his driver's side door right onto Sonic, forcing her out of her attack and slamming into a mud puddle. Antoine soon drives by, looking apologetic.

Antoine: "Oh, sorry, Sonic. I deed not see you zere."

Sonic: "Yeah. Can you same when almost ran people over?"

Antoine: "What can I say besides…"

Sonic is then knocked off her feet by a series of water balloons thrown at her by Tails, who was hovering above.

Tails: "You shouldn't let your guard down, chump! Now get splashed!"

Antoine smiles as he drives away, only to speed by and splash Sonic with mud, covering her in from head to toe. To say she was angry would be an understatement…

Later, after getting a shower, Sonic is seen tapping her foot as she waited for her friends to assemble in the Freedom Fighters HQ for their mandatory daily meeting. To her surprise, they actually showed up, with Sally being the last one to enter.

Tails: "Heya, Sonic. You're here early."

Sally: "Tails is right. You're usually in your own world, doing something else besides attending these meetings."

As they spoke with a jovial tone, the atmosphere suddenly turned tense as they sensed Sonic was… very upset about something.

Antoine: "Sonic? Eez something zee matter?"

Sonic: "You tell me, Antoine. After you almost ran people over with a car, laughing like a mad man! And that's not including pouring mud on me!"

Antoine: "What!? What sort of poppycock eez zis!? I would never do anything like zat!"

Sonic just turns on the security footage showing… exactly as Sonic described.

Tails: "Whoa… You really did drive around like crazy…"

Antoine: "I-Impossible! I was help you with zee biplane!"

Sonic: "Funny you should say that, Antoine…"

Sonic continues the footage, showing Tails bombarding Sonic with water balloons.

Sally: "Tails! How could you do that!?"

Tails: "Th-That wasn't me, Aunt Sally! I'd never do that to anyone, least of all Sonic!"

Rotor: "Sorry, chum. But we may have to ground ya…"

Sonic: "Oh Tails and Antoine aren't the only ones, Rotor."

Sonic turns to more footage, this time just outside the shop Rotor ransacked. He is seen smashing up the shop, Sonic arriving, and getting hit on the head with the same baseball bat. Rotor is horrified by this.

Rotor: "N-No way! I-I call foul ball! Er… Wait…"

Sonic gave Rotor the meanest glare she could muster, causing him to panic.

Rotor: "H-Hold on now! I was in my workshop working on a secret project, Sonic! I never left to go to any shop!"

Sally: "I'm disappointed with all of you. Bullying one of your own shouldn't be how Freedom Fighters act."

Sonic: "Sorry, Sal, but… You're in the boat yourself."

Sally: "H-Huh?"

The hedgehog turns from angry to sad as she shows footage of Sally kicking Sonic into the lake while she was fishing. Sally was genuinely flustered.

Sally: "N-Now hold on a minute! I only just got back! There's no way I could have done that to you, Sonic… You know that, right?"

Sally approached Sonic, who simply just looked away.

Sonic: "Honestly, I want to believe you… All of you… But I just feel… betrayed. I thought we were friends…"

Sally: "Sonic, we-"

Sonic: "Save it. I'm going outside to get some fresh air."

Sonic then left before Sally could say any more. An air of confusion and guilt swept over the Freedom Fighters…

Outside of Knothole Village, Sonic is seen running, looking upset after having that talk with her friends. Her mind was a mess at the moment, but she hoped that either a random attack from Robotnik or just a run around the Great Forest will clear her head. But as she ran, a foot comes out and trips Sonic, causing her to fall forward and roll on the grass before hitting a tree.

Sonic: "...Oh what now…?"

Sonic asks as she tries to refocus her vision, soon climbing back onto her feet as she sees a familiar blue hedgehog in leather and sunglasses.

Anti-Sonic: "What's up, toots? Remember me?"

Sonic: "...Oh yeah. The jerk Sonic. What are you doing on my Mobius?"

Anti-Sonic: "Heh. I got bored today; figured I could pass the time by coming to mess with ya. What's up with the waterworks?"

Anti-Sonic asks with a devious smile as he saw Sonic was on the verge of tears. But the hero held them back as she glared at her leather-wearing male double. But as she focused on him, a sudden kick from the side knocked her to the ground. When she looks up, she sees her friends… but they were wearing leather too, Tails even wearing sunglasses.

Sally?: "Should've kept your eyes more open."

Tails?: "Hah! What a letdown! After she got away from us before, I woulda thought she'd put up more of a fight!"

Rotor?: "Can I smash her now? I'm getting bored talking."

Anti-Sonic: "Easy, gang. Let me finish my piece first."

Anti-Sonic got off the tree he was leaning on as he approached the downed Sonic, a sinister smile on his face.

Anti-Sonic: "Last chance. You come with me and we have some fun together… Or I let my posse grind you down first."

Sonic just glared at him, her reflection in his sunglasses. She then spat right in his face, causing him to reel back in disgust.

Anti-Sonic: "Tch… Fine. Smash her."

Anti-Rotor smiles as he cracks his knuckles, approaching the hedgehog with murderous intent in his eyes.

Back at HQ, as the Freedom Fighters were talking about how they don't recall doing anything bad to Sonic. While they had issues with Sonic that - for the most part - were brushed off as minor things, they'd never genuinely hurt her. Sally though was with her portable computer, NICOLE, trying to figure out just what happened.

Sally: "Anything, NICOLE?"

NICOLE: "There are hours of footage to observe. Reducing the footage to just today, I believe…"

NICOLE then shows footage of a group of imposter Freedom Fighters removing their leather clothes.

Sally: "Guys! I think we've found our culprits!"

This got everyone's attention as they all ran to the security monitor as they saw all of their doubles… and a certain male hedgehog.

Antoine: "Oh mon! Who eez zat imposter pretending to moi!"

Tails: "Yeah! That's ruining our good image right there!"

Rotor: "I know I'm describing myself, but… that guy looks like a brute. Are they robots sent by Robotnik?"

Sally: "No. I dealt with that kind of plan on my trip; there is no way Robotnik has more Auto-Automatons in our image ready. Plus, look."

Sally then points out the blue male hedgehog in leather.

Sally: "From what Sonic described to me before, that hedgehog looks to be the jerk Sonic from another dimension."

Tails: "So they're all us but from a different place?"

Rotor: "Something like that."

NICOLE: "Detecting trouble in the nearby sector of the Great Forest as the security footage. Proceeding to generate footage."

NICOLE then shifts the footage to a live feed of Sonic getting punched, kicked, and slammed by the Anti-Freedom Fighters, unable to get away from them or retaliate.

Antoine: "Sonic!"

Rotor: "W-We need to go help her!"

Sally: "Right! Freedom Fighters! Let's go!"

Back in the outskirts of Knothole Village, Sonic is flung to a tree, cracking into it with enough force that her quills get lodged into it, pinning her to the tree. Anti-Sally rushes in and knees her in the exposed gut before proceeding to stomp her foot in the exact place.

Anti-Sally: "Ugh… I'm getting bored with her."

Anti-Sonic: "You get bored of most things. Just grab a lead pipe and just beat her with it."

Anti-Sally: "Fine… You got anything, Rotor?"

Tails: "No. But we do!"

As the Anti-Freedom Fighters hear that voice, turning to their Tails, Anti-Sally is suddenly hit by a Spin Dash coming from Sonic's Tails, knocking her back and off her feet. They turn and see the real Freedom Fighters had arrived.

Anti-Antoine: "Eh!? What are zey doing here!?"

Anti-Sonic: "Great… Don't just stand there, you punks!"

The Freedom Fighters lunge at the surprised Anti-Freedom Fighters, starting a battle royale of the ages. But rather than aim for their counterparts right away, they swapped to a different partner - Sally fought with Anti-Tails, Tails fought with Anti-Sally, Rotor fought with Anti-Antoine, and Antoine fought with Anti-Rotor. With the last one, Antoine slid under Anti-Rotor's attempt to smash him, getting behind the brute and slamming a kick to his back to knock him forward.

Antoine: "I believe zat is how you - how do you say - bring zee house down."

Antoine then karate chops the down downed Anti-Rotor before he could get up, knocking him out. Knowing Rotor would probably need help, he leaps over to help his friend, pulling out his sword to block his double's own sword, saving Rotor from a slash meant for him.

Rotor: "Thanks, Antoine. Now excuse me as I pull my weight!"

Rotor then gets down as he football tackles Anti-Antoine, making him drop his sword before slam dunking him onto the ground. Even if he is a tech guy in most cases, he's still got muscle to spare. With Sally and Anti-Tails, the flier tries to keep out of Sally's reach by flying high over her. But the crafty princess simply smiles as she launches a smoke pellet, which goes off around the fox's flight range.

Anti-Tails: "Cough… Cough… I-I can't see! No fair!"

Sally: "Neither is picking on my friends!"

Sally leaps up to the distracted fox's tails, grabbing them as she pulls him to the ground and slams him hard enough to knock him out. She ties his tails together to prevent him from flying again.

Sally: "There. I think that'll count as 'grounding' Tails."

Anti-Sally gulps as she sees her team had been beaten already, causing her to back up a bit. Tails smiles as he crouches behind Anti-Sally and trips her with his tails, knocking her to the ground.

Anti-Sally: "Ack! You stupid brat!"

Tails: "That's what you get for messing with my best friend!"

Anti-Sonic: "Oh quit whining and have a break!"

Tails looks up as he sees Anti-Sonic rush at him. As his eyes widen, his Sonic rushes in and slams right into Anti-Sonic, knocking him to the ground as Sonic lands.

Sonic: "How about you stop hiding and acting tough and fighting someone your own size!?"

Anti-Sonic: "Why you… I'm going to brutalize that pretty face of yours!"

Sonic got ready as Anti-Sonic lunges at her. But before he could get too close, Sonic revs up a quick Spin Dash and slams herself right into Anti-Sonic, dragging him until slamming him into a tree, leaving a sizable crater in it. This knocks Anti-Sonic out as he slides to the ground; his sunglasses fall off from the impact.

Sonic: "...What a stupid jerk…"

As Sonic calms down, she is tackled to the ground by her friends, who were all worried for her.

Sonic: "Wh-Whoa! Guys! It's okay! I've been through way worse things!"

After tossing the Anti-Freedom Fighters back to their dimension, the Freedom Fighters gather back at their HQ, with Sonic having made a full course meal for her friends in literally no time at all.

Sonic: "Enjoy guys! Today's spread is on the house!"

Antoine: "Oh mon. What eez zee occasion?"

Sonic: "An apology for getting angry at you guys… I'm sorry… A lot of things on my mind as of late… I was hoping to relax today, but… Well… I guess even heroes can get stressed, huh?"

Sally just approaches Sonic and gives her a hug, smiling at her.

Sally: "Oh, Sonic. It's alright. We forgive you. And besides, it all worked out in the end. Right?"

Sonic: "Yeah. I'm all ready and willing to put a stop to Robotnik once and for all! For Mobius!"

Freedom Fighters: "FOR MOBIUS!"

At Robotropolis, as the sun sets upon the imposing citadel in the center of the widespread city, Robotnik's sinister chuckles are heard echoing from within the mad doctor's lab. Snively enters, curious as to what the doctor was laughing about.

Snively: "Sir? What seems to be funny?"

Robotnik: "My latest creation has finally been finished. One that not even Sonic will be able to defeat."

Snively: "Oh my. It… It looks so beautiful."

Robotnik: "Yes, my boy. A thing of beauty indeed."

Robotnik approaches his creation, handing it a picture of a young, pink, girl hedgehog in a cute dress.

Robotnik: "Now my creation… My Swatbots have intercepted a recent letter addressed to my most hated enemy, Sonic the Hedgehog. This will make for an excellent test for your abilities. Find this girl… And bring her here. Understand?"

The creation takes the picture and examines it before responding…

Metal Sonic: "Affirmative, Lord Robotnik."
