Now that the emotional climax of the story has been reached now is time for thing's to all go downhill so the character's can really be the heroes they need to be also hinting that Dana's creators are indeed part of our at least in the employ of a shadowy cabal that seeks total world domination similar to what was hinted in Stripes' backstory where Stripes story it was about control of medicine and healthcare in Dana's situation it is control of sex and the relationship between the sexes
Glass Joe and Dana lay down to rest at about 5 in the morning and finally woke up sometime in the late afternoon at about 1 or 2 in the afternoon.
Seeing no other option, they simply continued to follow the jeweled tunnel until finally they emerged, not in the swamp they entered the cave in, but in a bright and sunny meadow somewhere North of the Mystic Swamp...To Joe suddenly the world more beautiful than it ever had been before, or at least it seemed more beautiful than it had been for years for him.
Following the map he had been given they found the gave of the Snake-Witch and gave her the bottle of water from the Pool of Truth so she could make the potion that would hopefully restore Dana's true personality…
Not wanting to fret over weather or not the potion would work, Joe led Dana to the nearby village where they stopped for a late lunch/early supper at a cafe, Joe had to admit they did pretty good for what were clearly English cooks doing French food as Joe and Dana split a croque monsieur.
Upon finally returning to Third Earth New York City Joe noticed dark clouds were overhead, he didn't like the look of that...Seemed like a potentially nasty storm was gathering...So he simply wanted to return to his apartment...But then he heard Dana gasp with fright as they passed as newspaper stand and when he turned his head and saw what she saw he felt the blood drain from his face as well…
There, on the tabloids...The front page story was 'Glass Joe's Mutant Girlfriend created to be a sex slave!'
Joe quickly opened up the paper and saw everything that had been revealed to him about Dana's origin was now in that paper! But how?! Why?! Who could have blabbed?!
But before Joe could potentially burst a blood vessel over this, he noticed Joe was trembling violently.
"We need to get back…" Dana said her voice sounded deeper like before
Upon returning to his apartment, Dana quickly began grabbing grabbed what few things she had there.
"I'm sorry Joe…" She said her voice alternating between her soft child-like salve voice and her deeper normal voice "...Particularly after everything you did...But...Now that the secret's out I have to leave and never see you again!"
"What?!" Joe exclaimed "Why?!"
"Because that paper revealed the plan I told you about!" Dana cried "Now that it will be the talk of town the scientists who created me will make their move to recapture me! If they catch me with you they will kill you for knowing too much!"
Her voice sounded mostly the normal deep contralto voice and Joe was beginning to realize, that it seemed her need to protect him from her creators seemed to be overpowering the hypnotic command to obey her master, so if he commanded her to stay she could disobey because the priority to keep him safe was more powerful then the priority to make him happy by obeying him.
Before he knew it he felt her arms wrap around her neck "I'm sorry…" She said as she wept "...But this is the only way...My creators have some very powerful backers...And they are very interested in the plan for common men to have Mutant Animal substitutes, so they can have harems of human women to themselves...They don't care what they have to do to make their dream a reality!"
As Dana wept, a wave of tenderness swept over Joe, remembering what that pink and purple Cat-Girl said about her own human boyfriend and kissing...Joe decided to give Dana a tiny kiss on the cheek…
And he realized there was no offensive animal odor because Dana kept herself very clean, and in keeping his lips tightly pressed he didn't get any fur in his mouth...Was that all he was afraid of?
"Then…" Joe said softly "...Au revoir Dana…"
The Mutant Doberman pulled away the tears had clearly matted the fur on her cheeks and with her purse over her shoulder she went out the door.
But as Joe stood there and thought about what just happened, the more he thought about it...Listening to his heartbeat steadily increase...He felt a funny feeling start to stir...Where women will say 'feminine intuition' Men will have 'gut feelings' seems like the same mechanism then only difference is woman like soft sounding words and men like hard sounding words and Joe realized he couldn't let her go...He realized she had saved him from his despair...She had saved his soul!
He ran out to the fire escape, it was already beginning to rain...And that's where he saw it!
Dana was already captured! He could see several humans wearing what seemed like full body suits with that seemed like gas masks on their faces they had already placed a muzzle on Dana's face and had her handcuffs as they were taking her to a red van with the words on it 'International Brain Trust'
"NON! NON! NON!" Joe cried and without a second thought he began climbing down the fire escape but too late they threw her into the van and quickly drove away!
Was originally going to have Joe quietly realize the depth of the IBT's plan but I realized that didn't fit in this chapter
