CHAPTER 77
The next day, everyone gathered at Nathan's house, an atmosphere charged with tension and worry. Bill, with his firm posture, led the group, but his heart was squeezed by the delicate situation involving the family. Cody, Robert, Willian Thatcher and Jerson joined the meeting, each sharing the anguish that hung in the air.
Sitting around the table, Elizabeth was encouraged to share every detail, from the moment she received the threatening note to the moment Nathan found her. Her every word echoed in the room, charged with tension and emotion. It was difficult for her to relive the moments of terror she had experienced at the hands of that criminal.
As Elizabeth recounted her experience, expressions of shock and indignation appeared on the faces of those present. Elizabeth's pain was palpable, her hands trembled slightly, but she carried on, determined to face that challenge with courage and determination.
At the end of her account, a heavy silence filled the room, everyone absorbing the gravity of the situation. It was clear that something had to be done to guarantee the family's safety and put an end to the torment they had faced.
Lee arrived on the scene at just the right moment, bringing with him a crucial discovery: Wade had withdrawn a considerable amount of money from the bank that very day, coming from a direct transfer from Hamilton. The silence in the room was deafening at this revelation, as everyone processed the information and its possible implications.
Willian cast a meaningful glance at Jerson, a silent communication that did not go unnoticed by Bill and Nathan. The gears of reasoning began to turn, each mind present connecting the dots and forming conjectures about what this could mean.
Allien, with a tense countenance and eyes filled with dark memories, recounted the harrowing details of what she had faced at Wade's hands. Her account brought out a wave of empathy and indignation in the room, each person there feeling the need to act in the face of the injustice she had suffered.
However, the most moving and tense moment came when little Jack decided it was his turn to speak. With a trembling voice, he poured out his story without interruption, revealing the horrors he had experienced and unleashing a mixture of emotions in those listening. Hearing an innocent child's account of the trauma he had endured was a painful blow for everyone in the room, reinforcing the urgency of resolving this situation and ensuring the family's safety.
- My mountie horse I lost, the man barely threw me hard against the wall, he pushed me, then he told me to sleep. He shook Allien, he caressed her arm, then he pulled her by the leg ... she screamed, he told her to shut up, he hurt her... he hit her... he hit her... he hit her... and she cried non-stop screaming he hit her...
That boy had a different, still look in his eyes, something Nathan recognized in the midst of the tears as anger. He was angry about what they had done to his sister.
- Calm down... little brother, I'm fine and I'm here.
The boy smiled and looked at his mother. It was as if something was going through his head, everyone noticed his eyebrows ...
- Mom! Get him... he hit me and Allien. Make that face at him like that.
And putting his hands on his waist, he made an angry face, imitating his mother.
- I'm going to get him, my son. Nobody, nobody messes with my children.
- That's right, Mom. The boy said and started laughing.
Nathan looked at Bill and Willian Thatcher, it could have been a simple conversation between mother and son, but they all knew Elizabeth, and if she had the chance, she would get that man. They had to keep a close eye on her, because she was unpredictable when she was angry.
Lee stayed with Elizabeth, while Nathan went to the police station to fill out the paperwork about the children's rescue. Robert would return in the afternoon to stay with Allien and have dinner with the family.
They all went to the police station, where Willian told them all about Jerson's graces and the things the lawyer had discovered before he was fired, and two high-value transfers that matched Wade's withdrawals.
Willian had asked Charles and Julia to return to Hamilton during the night and they would follow as quickly as possible and try to find out something, but he was almost certain that his wife Grace and his daughter Viola had fingers in that kidnapping. Soon they would receive some news, as Willian had sent Charles with a document giving him powers to investigate.
Jerson, with a grave countenance and steady eyes, shared details of the threats made by Grace as soon as she learned that Willian had ordered Elizabeth's name to be restored to the estate. The tension in the room increased as Jerson's every word echoed in the room, revealing the extent of Grace's hostility.
Meanwhile, Nathan was visibly upset, his emotions overflowing and echoing off the walls of the police station. His speech was loud and uncontrolled, reflecting the intensity of his emotions about the situation. Anger boiled inside her, fueled by injustice and the desire to protect her family at all costs.
- How could she think of doing anything to my wife and children? Is she her daughter?
Willian, head down, could only listen to all this, and as a father he understood Nathan's feelings. Besides, until a while ago, he was exactly the same as Grace and Viola.
Bill held Nathan, who was pacing back and forth.
- It was this, Bill, that Elizabeth feared. All along, she had been afraid of this family hurting our family. She was right to fear them and want them to stay away.
- Please, my son! William said.
But Nathan couldn't see anything in front of him, he hated them. He needed time ... time to think.
- Mr. Willian Thatcher, you'll forgive me, but right now we need peace. We need to be together to know how to fight your family. Nathan was indignant.
- I understand, Nathan. I'll give you time. But know that I, Julia and Charles, are with you and will not allow anything to happen to Elizabeth and the children.
Nathan took a deep breath. He knew that during these months, Willian had been there for them, and it would be unfair for him to take the blame for his family.
- I'm sorry, Mr. Willian. I just got nervous.
- I know, son. But I'm with you.
- You know that whoever is guilty, as soon as I find them, I'll send them to prison. And if your daughter and your wife are involved, I will also ask for punishment for them. Nathan said.
- I will also be on his side. Bill said.
- Nathan. Whoever they are, I hope they pay for their crimes. And I warn you, here's the best lawyer in Hamilton, and I guarantee he'll be able to help you a lot. Willian said.
- I'm at your disposal. Seeing Miss Elizabeth in such despair was the worst thing I've ever seen in my life. I never thought I'd see those tears so painful.
Jerson said that he had known Elizabeth since she was born. She was such a cute little girl, there was no one who didn't fall in love with her, always smiling at everyone and always kind. And hearing that eased Nathan's heart a little.
That evening, Robert told Allien at dinner about their relationship and got Allien's parents' approval, as long as he was respectful and they didn't think about anything more serious until she had graduated from school and was ready to become a nurse.
The two young people had already made plans for marriage after her graduation as a nurse, but neither Nathan nor Elizabeth knew yet... with a chocolate cake, that dinner ended, with much celebration for the new baby Grant...
It's a nice, family-oriented ending to this chapter.
