Planning a Rescue
Jessica shook her head as she finished checking over Jake's treated injuries.
"Eddie and Terry did a good job." She noted to Jake.
Jake bit his lip and shook his head. "I should...I need to help them, I still can't believe those monsters took them all, they need-"
"Jake, you're in no shape to help the others right now." Jessica reminded him gently. "They can handle it, they've been encouraged by you, they'll make it, they'll save the ones they love, and Kelsey."
Jake sighed but nodded. "I know, I know...I just hate being helpless like this, are...are you okay?"
Jess sighed too. "Yeah, thanks to you. I feel guilty."
"Don't, I'd do it again in a heartbeat, you know that." Jake smiled back at her and looked over at the others. "You guys, I wish I could help you but…"
"Don't worry, we've got this." Eddie said with a nod. "We can do this, we've been working out what's going on and where to go."
"So, what's the plan?" Holly asked warily.
She hated the fact that she'd be left behind, but all the parents would be, they were dealing with the main trio of Symbiotes, only the Avengers themselves could stand a chance against them.
"Scream has taken up in a location in Hell's Kitchen, we know that she has Tanya, Michelle and Nathan with her and is holding them captive there." Terry explained. "So, Eddie, Amanda and I will be going there."
The other two nodded in confirmation.
As the trio went to suit up, the others looked at the remaining Avengers, the older ones, Stephanie, Matthew, Barbara and Thomas.
Thomas nodded. "We're going after Jeff, Olivia and Kelsey, we will bring them back, don't worry."
Holly shook her head. "I can't help but worry, but I have faith in you, hurry back, we'll take care of things here."
They all nodded and the other four went to suit up too, their destination was over in the Astoria district.
"Alright, we'll be here, we'll keep things under control." Nancy agreed.
"Our biggest problem at the moment is gonna be...what is Venom up to, we know Scream is holding half the hostages, Carnage the other half." Jonathan added.
There was a pause before Robin added. "We better be careful, there had to be a reason why Venom took them...why they're doing this."
"You think it's a distraction?" Jane wondered aloud.
Robin nodded and the others shared worried looks, realizing that might indeed be the case. But it left them with no other option. There wasn't much they could do right now, not with Jake injured and the others had no choice but to go and rescue the hostages. Also, for all their bravery, none of the parents stood a chance against Venom and they all knew it. Which left them unable to do much but wait, tense and on edge, while the other Avengers suited up and left the hideout, ready to seek out and rescue the hostages. Meanwhile, Mike and Will turned to Jake, still being tended to by Jessica.
Approaching their son the two sat down by his bed while Jess smiled.
"Jake, that was...you're doing such an incredible job." Mike said. "We've seen you, not just fighting, but the other things you've done, you've done so much for your friends, for everyone here."
"I just…" Jake replied, biting his lip, flushing. "I'm just trying to do the right thing. It's not easy."
Will shook his head. "The right thing rarely is, but it's good that you're doing that, not to mention, you're clearly an amazing leader."
"He's right, the others really listen to you and you're doing an amazing job." Jess agreed.
Jake blushed harder but managed to smile.
"I...thanks, I just hope I can keep things together and also recover." He said at last. "Even if we do save them, we're not gonna be able to finish the main three Symbiotes here...we need to be ready, if we're going to stop them once and for all."
"Well, Dr. Connors said he had something so we just need to hope it works." Mike said softly.
Jake nodded in agreement. "Right now, guess we just have to wait for the others to return, successfully. Meanwhile I can focus on getting better."
The others nodded at that, all of them hoping against hope that they would be able to successfully get their loved ones back.
