I got on the train for the first time, grinning from ear to ear.

I boarded the train, dragging my black Hogwarts trunk behind me up the steps. Ron followed, heaving his own I got in, and I told Ron " I'll check this side for an open compartment." Then I strode down the narrow corridor. At the front of the train was a small compartment with four kids my age. I pushed the door open "Um. Hi. I was wondering if I could sit there?" I pointed to the seat next to the curly-haired girl. "Everywhere else is full." The taller girl nodded and said "Sure. I don't see why not" I smiled and pulled out my wand "Wingardium Leviosa" my trunk floated up into the luggage rack. I stowed the wand and sat down. "I'm Leo. " the curly-haired Latino boy said, breaking the uncomfortable silence. "This is Reyna, Hazel, and Will" he pointed to each of them. When I didn't say anything, he asked "What's your name?" Mind you he said this so fast I barely had a chance to say anything. "Nico Weasley" I replied before he could say more else. Soon the lunch trolly stopped by our compartment. "Anything off the trolly dears?" I shook my head. "None for me. Mum made sandwiches" I pulled two corn beef sandwiches out of my aviator jacket pocket. Hazel dug a handful of gold from her pocket and said "We'll take the lot. What can that get us?"

My eyes widened at the sight of so many galleons. "How do you have so much gold?" I asked incredulously. Hazel looked at me. At this angle, her brown curly hair glittered in the light, and her gold eyes shimmered with mischief. " I come from a very wealthy family: the Levesques." Embarrassed, I switch the topic. " I can't place your accent Leo, where are you from?" he hesitated for a minute and said: " my mum is from Texas, and my da's from Wales" "Texas? As in the United States," I asked. " yeah" suddenly the sliding door rattled, and I unlocked it. " Ron what are you-" "Boy, the boy from the platform" "What about him?" " he is Harry Potter!" he grabbed my arm and dragged me out through the corridor.

Lee was showing people his pet tarantula. Ron veered away and pulled me into a compartment with the black-haired boy. " you must be Harry" I said. " Harry, this is my brother Nico. Nico, this is Harry" Ron introduced. " pleased to meet you." I said. Ron pulled out his wand. " Want to see some magic Harry?" he raised his wand in, pointed it at Scabbers. " Su-" he was cut short by a girl with frizzy brown hair " Have either of you seen a toad? A boy named Nevilles' lost one. Oh, are you doing magic? Let's see it then." Ron grunted. " Sunshine, daisies, butter, mellow, turn the stupid, fat, rat, yellow!" a blast of white light gushed from his wand.

When it faded, Scabbers was the same old brown as before. " George gave it to me. Probably knew it was a dud." " Are you sure, that's a real spell?" The girl said. "Well, it's not very good, is it? I've tried a few simple spells just for practice and it's all worked for me. No one in my family is Magic at all, it was ever such a surprise when I got my letter, but I was ever so pleased, of course, I mean, it's the very best school of witchcraft there is, I've heard-I've learnt all our Sett books off by heart, of course, I just hope it will be enough-I'm Hermione Granger, by the way, who are you?" she said this all very fast. Harry looked at Ron and seemed relieved to see by his stand face that he hadn't learnt all the set books off by heart either. "I am Ron Weasley," Ron muttered. "Nico Weasley," I said. "Harry Potter," said Harry. "Are you really?" Asked Hermione. "I know all about you, of course-I got a few extra books for background reading, and you're in modern medical history and the rise and fall of the dark arts and great wizarding events of the 20th century." I sort of zoned out for a while. "-Better get changed. I expect we'll be arriving soon. Oh, you have a spot of dirt on your nose by the way. There." She interrupted his thoughts and left.

I got into a boat with a blood boy and two girls. In the entrance hall, I anxiously waited for Professor McGonagall to return. I didn't flinch like the others when the ghosts floated through the walls. I waved at a ghost with bloody chains wrapped around his neck. He smiled and waved back. When they entered the hall, they filled into one big clump of soon-to-be-sorted students.
