Chapter 3

Jake's bar

Jason had been sitting at the bar for the last few hours. He had 2 empty beer bottles in front of him and was nursing a 3rd. The bar had gotten progressively louder as he sat there. Jason didn't mind it though. It gave him the opportunity to block out what had happened at the mansion. He almost couldn't believe the audacity of Edward to give that type of ultimatum, but at the same time, he had to laugh at the old man's last attempt to get him into ELQ.

Jason wanted to beat his head against the bar top. There was no way in Hell he was going to let the old man get the last word. Jason knew first hand just how manipulative his grandfather could be. He had solidly put Jason between a rock and a hard place. He desperately wanted the money that Edward was dangling in front of him, but the price was higher than he expected.

ELQ held no appeal to Jason whatsoever. Even if he was willing to give up a year of his life to do any type of internship, he knew that he would be unhappy. He wouldn't be able to work at his shop, and that made him angry.

The other request left a foul taste in Jason's mouth. How was he supposed to get some poor girl to marry him and give him a child? He was single for a reason. Since the accident, he had been with a few different women, all of them one night stands. He just couldn't see himself settling down and having a family.

Shit! I'm so screwed…

Hearing a small ruckus in the corner by the pool tables, Jason looked over to see a familiar looking small, dark haired woman trying to pull her arm away from a guy that looked like he was a couple in himself. He watched as the woman pushed against the guy, but he just held on tighter. Jason frowned, trying to place the woman. Finally, his brain clicked.

Elizabeth Webber. She's friends with Emily.

He watched as Elizabeth slapped the guy holding her. Without consciously thinking about it, Jason left his barstool and walked toward the couple. He reached them just as the man balled his fist, preparing to hit Elizabeth.

Jason grabbed the jackasses arm, and pushed him back. He grabbed his throat and squeezed. "Are you really stupid enough to try to hit a woman? Get the hell out of here before I beat the shit out of you!" Jason told the asshole. He dropped him on the ground, and watched as the cockroach scurried away.

Jason turned toward Elizabeth and was surprised when she shoved him. "What the hell is your problem, Jason? I didn't need or want your help. I had it under control," Elizabeth practically screamed at him. Jason threw his hands up, palms out.

"Hey, I just thought I was helping you out, but if that's the way you wanna be, fine! I'll go back to my barstool and let the next asshole rough you up without interference. You're welcome, by the way," Jason growled out. He turned to do just that, and was surprised to feel her hand wrap around his arm.

"I'm sorry, okay! I… Thank you for helping. I shouldn't have yelled at you like that," Elizabeth told him, her grip on his arm not relenting. Jason looked down pointedly and Elizabeth finally let go.

"What are you even doing here anyways? Are you even old enough to drink yet?" Jason looked her up and down. She had on a black leather tank top and tight black jeans. Her hair was a riotous curly mess.

Elizabeth looked affronted. "I'm 22 years old, thank you very much."

Jason's eyebrow rose. That news surprised him. He could vaguely remember her moving to Port Charles a couple years after his accident. She had immediately become friends with his sister Emily. He had seen her in passing multiple times, and they had even had a few short conversations. However, once she started dating Lucky Spencer, he hadn't really seen her around as much. Which begged the question…

"Where's your boyfriend? Does he know you're in a bar trying to pick up men?"

Jason watched as Elizabeth gasped, and was shocked to see tears forming in her eyes. His eyes widened as he saw Elizabeth crumble to the floor before his eyes. He followed her down, and without thinking about it, pulled her into his arms.

Elizabeth turned into him, her tears wetting his shirt. Jason looked around, and felt uncomfortable with the amount of people that were watching them. "Let's get out of here so we can talk more freely," Jason said into her ear. Elizabeth nodded, and waited till Jason gained his feet. He reached down and pulled her up. "Come on," he said, grabbing her hand and leading her toward the bar. He grabbed his leather jacket and tossed some money down. Heading toward the door, Elizabeth grabbed her jacket as well, and the two walked out the door.

Once they were outside, Jason walked over to his motorcycle. He grabbed the helmet and held it out to Elizabeth. "Ever been on a bike before?" He asked her. Elizabeth shook her head. "Well, come on. This is how I alleviate stress."

Elizabeth took the helmet and put it on. Jason straddled the bike and turned it on. Elizabeth climbed on behind him, grabbing his waist. Jason turned toward her. "Just hang on and lean into the curves with me. If you don't like something, just yell," he told her. Elizabeth nodded and then proceeded to scream as he took off down the road. Her laughter drifted behind them as they drove away from Jake's.
