At last, school was practically over for the day. All classes, activities, and events were over. Most employees and students had deserted the facility, the only ones staying behind were those who had stuff to do on the school grounds after hours.
Wulf and Rena walk down a spacious hallway, attempting to search for the exact room written on the slip of paper that was given to them. They were looking for a room labeled CR-4 on the second floor.
As they reached the end of the hallway, they eventually spotted an oak door labeled CR-4. They stopped in front of it as Wulf glanced at the paper.
"Well, this should be the room," he said, storing the paper back into his pocket.
"Indeed, it is." As Rena started to walk up to it, Wulf had a quick moment of realization and promptly walked past her. He gripped the sleek silver handle and opened the door for Rena.
"Why, thank you, Wulf." Her gratitude aroused a slight blush across his cheeks.
"You're welcome, Rena." She walked past him into the room. Wulf sighed, flushing any color from his face as he followed behind her.
As the door behind them automatically closed, the two took one look around the room. It was certainly far more interesting than they would've imagined.
The walls were painted red, with a large circular window covered in white framing built into the room's east wall. Various shelves, tables, and boxes sat up against the walls and in the corners of the room, lying on the rather dusty wood-paneled floor. What looked like a balcony hung high above the floor with metal stairs allowing a pathway up to it.
They walked up to the center of the room to inspect a rather peculiar object. A big and square brick-like machine with metal painted grey and a computer screen along with various buttons installed underneath the screen along with a slot for something to connect into.
On two sides of the machine were two holes caved into it with soft black mats inside. The size of the holes and the mats on the ground clearly indicated a human was supposed to step inside of it.
Suddenly, they heard a clanging sound coming from a closet beneath the room's second floor. Hearing this triggered Rena's instincts, causing her to raise her arms as if expecting an ambush.
Then, they heard somewhat muffled voices from the closet. The two got closer, as the voices got clearer.
"It's not my fault this closet is disorganized!" Said one voice. "Well, it's not like you ever help me when I try cleaning it!" Responded the other.
Just then, a teenage boy looking to be around the same age as Wulf walked out of the closet looking back into it. "That's the problem though, I never see you clean it!" He exclaimed.
He looked in front of him to see Wulf and Rena standing there confused. The boy was startled and gasped.
Just then, a small, blue-furred dog like Digimon sporting a red tie around his head sprinted from the closet at the boy's side. It put its hands up, which sported red boxing gloves, and showed its sharp teeth.
"Master! Intruders!" The Digimon warned, standing up to the boy's thigh with its height.
Rena saw this stance by the Digimon but seemingly didn't think too much of it, not even raising her arms in case of a sudden attack. The boy looked down at the Digimon, sighing and trying to calm it down. "Calm down, Kai. Me and Zach have been expecting them.".
As Kai lowered his arms, another boy exited the closet. "Hey, what's going on?".
As he saw Wulf and Rena together, his eyes lit up and he walked to the other boy's side. He rubbed his hands together and placed them on his hips.
"Well, I was wondering when you two would show up." He looked at Wulf. "I'm Zach, Zach Rush. You must be her Tamer."
Wulf shook Zach's hand. "Yeah, my name is Wulf Becker.".
"I'm Jason Tagaki, nice to meet you." Wulf shook hands with him next, and then Jason looked down at his Digimon.
"This is Kai, he is a Gaomon. My apologies, he can be rather overly protecting at times." He explained as Kai bowed.
"It's quite alright, I'm the same way," Rena told him.
Zach grinned confidently, showing his perfect white teeth. He also seemed to be around the age of Wulf, though looked more upbeat than him. He had sleek brown hair that was styled into a sharp haircut and sported a pair of white goggles around his head. He stared at Wulf and Rena with his emerald-green eyes.
Jason on the other hand gave a more sincere and calm smile. He was Japanese and had short and uncombed jet-black hair with brown eyes.
"Let's talk upstairs." Zach headed up the stairs with metal clanging as the others followed behind him. Upon reaching upstairs, Wulf looked around to see a much more casual area compared to downstairs.
A round wood table lay in the center with a wide green couch backed against the wall, along with a few plastic chairs lying around. A large flat TV was planted on a wide low table, underneath was what looked like a video game console and some games.
"Wow, this place looks cool." Wulf was certainly impressed.
Sleeping soundly in one of the chairs was an Agumon, its clawed hands folded across his chest as it quietly snored. Zach looked at this Agumon, approaching it and tapping it on its dinosaurian-shaped head.
"Hey, Victor. Time to wake up, we have guests." It abruptly woke up and nearly lost its balance in the chair.
"Oh! Rena, you've finally arrived with your Tamer." It exclaimed getting out of the chair, showing it to be about the same height as Kai as it stood next to Zach.
"Wulf, this is my Digimon, Victor, he's an Agumon. Rena, you already met him at the cafeteria." Zach presented as Victor waved in a friendly manor.
With everyone introduced, Zach and Jason went towards the couch. They sat down on it, their Digimon jumping up to sit with them.
"Have a seat." Zach gestured at two chairs placed next to the couch. Wulf and Rena sat down and looked at the two.
"So, what was this about Digimon Fighting?". Wulf asked.
"So, me and Jason heard about a new Digimon on the school grounds. Everyone we saw was talking about her, we hadn't seen anything like it." Zach readjusted himself on the couch and kicked his feet up on the coffee table. "Now, we're both super into Digimon Fighting. If you aren't aware, my father is the Lance Rush."
Wulf tilted his head. "Who is that?"
"You don't know who my father is? He was the first leader of the All-Stars, the IDBL team representing the US and Halcyon." Zach seemed genuinely surprised, though Wulf still didn't quite seem to know.
"The International Digimon Battle League? The global tournament held every year between teams of the best Digimon Tamers? My father led the All-Stars to victory in the first-ever tournament twenty years ago." Zach explained more.
"Oh yeah, that big thing I hear about every summer," Wulf said.
"Wow, guess you aren't too familiar with Digimon." Zach chuckled, then cleared his throat to get back on track.
"Anyways, Digimon are our lives, and when it comes to fighting, we always like to experiment with new things. When we heard of a new Digimon no one had seen before in the school, we just had to check things out." He explained.
"Well, I'm glad you guys think Rena is awesome. What do you mean by experiment?" Wulf just wanted to know.
"I think we should just get to the point." Jason abruptly butted in. "We love to see new Digimon in action and witness firsthand just how strong they can be. Especially since fighting them helps make our Digimon stronger."
"So, does that mean you guys want to fight Rena?" Wulf asked.
Zach stood and cracked his knuckles. "Oh yeah, we're curious to see how she is in the BattleSphere."
It seemed as if everything Zach said just filled Wulf with more questions. "BattleSphere? What the heck is that?"
Zach looked genuinely surprised again and covered his face with his hand, trying to hold in a laugh. "Nothing, I'll explain in a bit."
Jason stood as well. "So, Rena. Do you want to fight our Digimon?"
"When you first told me about this in the cafeteria, I was curious," Rena smirked, then stood up. "Now I'm convinced, I would like to try seeing how your Digimon fair against me."
Just as the two boys looked at their Digimon with eager faces, Rena had just one warning to tell them. "I must warn you, however. I was not bred here in Halcyon or any other Haven city. I came from the Digital World itself. I fought many genuine battles for survival out there, so I take any fight I'm in very seriously." Now this was intriguing to Zach and Jason.
They both grinned and rubbed their hands, ready to see what Rena could do. They look down at their own Digimon, who seemed just as eager.
Wulf finally stood and looked at Rena. "Good luck, Rena. I guess we'll see how this goes."
Rena put her hand on his back and reassured him with a wink. "Trust me, Wulf, this will be nothing."
