CHAPTER 04 - CALLINGS
TOPH
"That's enough for today!" Toph commanded. She flicked out her arm, and the Dai Li that stood in formation matched her motion, giving a proper salute that carried the weight of collective respect. The eastern division of the Dai Li were her pride and joy, having mastered earthbending well enough to satisfy her high expectations.
Toph considered taking them to the next level and instructing them in metalbending, but held off. She had originally intended to begin her own metalbending academy, but changed her mind, wanting the secret art that made her the very best to stay with her and only her. It was selfish on her part, and she acknowledged that, but she had other reasons for it too.
Toph wore a uniform that separated her from every other member of the secret police. Her outfit was adorned with metal plates that had been polished to the point of reflection.
"Break out!" Toph ordered, turning from them and placing her arms behind her back as the milita exited the room in single file.
Toph held their training sessions underneath the palace, out of view from anything that would provide distraction. She had constructed the training course herself and across the grounds lay scattered enormous sheets of metal that were lodged into the ground standing upright. She had disassembled several Fire Nation airships and personally brought them underground on her own. There were pillars of earth and slabs of stone laid out in no pattern. Everything was randomly laid out and there was a reason for it. Toph believed that fighting was messy, and being a good fighter meant being the calm of a storm.
Toph tested the Dai Li agents via trail by combat, facing them all at once. Despite their status as the most elite force in Ba Sing Se, not a single solider nor any entire division had bested her in combat training. Her intention was not for them to beat her, but to push them hard enough to be able to keep up with her. If they could, they were worthy enough to be Dai Li. Her metalbending gave her an incredibly unfair advantage over them all, but that was the purpose of their training; to hold your own when the odds were stacked against you.
Once the troops were gone, Toph took the next hour for herself and practiced on her metal bending. She had begun to mix up her attacks and had created several new forms which allowed her to switch seamlessly from earth to metalbending. Her movements were fluid, and sharp, nothing like how slow she had been during the war.
Panting and exhaling heavily, with her hair falling out of place and strands sticking to the sweat on her forehead, Toph made the decision that she had trained enough for the day and headed home.
Toph lived a solitary life for the most part, not being much in the way of friends. She did have a few acquaintances before, but her ability to sense when someone was lying ensured that didn't last long. It was a both a blessing and a curse to be able tell when people were dishonest with her, and partially it soured the idea of meeting anyone. Aside from that, when it came to dating, Toph kept a heart of stone. It's not that she didn't want intimacy, of all kinds. She was a fully grown woman after all, but it was simpler to just pleasure herself and avoid any headaches.
With her being blind, she had a better feel for her body than anyone else ever could (or so she thought). Its not like she knew for sure anyway, as she had never actually had sex before. It was a bit of an insecurity. Toph had never even had a boyfriend and at age 17 was pretty embarrassed about it. Since she had no idea what she looked like, it wasn't like she could say for sure that her looks weren't a problem. Katara had called her pretty a long time ago, but that wasn't the person she desperately wanted to hear that from.
It was midday as Toph strolled through the shopping district of the Middle Ring. Her feet feeling the vibrations around her gave her complete clarity over her surroundings. There were traders selling imported perfumes, merchants arguing prices, and tailors discussing fabric quality. Toph focused her direction on a shop down to her right,
Toph had heard stories about how their reputation for weaving together exotic fabrics to create stunning dresses and outfits. Even some of the aristocrats bought from here. With nothing else to do, she entered the establishment called Opulence.
"M-M-Miss Beifong! H-How can I be of service to you today?" stuttered the shopkeep, clearly surprised at her arrival.
"Just Toph is fine," she corrected, preferring to go by her own name, and not that of her family. "I'm looking for a new dress. Something I can wear for a special occasion. What do you have?"
"Oh…y-yes. Apologies, Miss. Toph." The woman continued to stammer. "We have an assortment of fine fabrics from every nation, but in your case, I believe green would be your color. I can have this finished by tomorrow."
Toph had no clue what green or any color was, but knew it was her signature look and wanted something along those lines. She reached her fingers into her metal wrist guards and conjured up a golden coin. Placing it on the countertop, she nodded and headed out the door. "Good. You know where to have it sent then."
She stopped once more to eat a bowl of noodles, since she wasn't the best when it came to keeping food stocked as she knew she should. After she walked across the stone bridge that lead to her district. During certain parts of the year, the cherry blossom petals would liter the ground; she loved how soft they were when she walked over them. It was one of her favorite things about living here actually.
At home, Toph used her metalbending to undo her uniform and cast it aside as she jumped into the shower. When she was younger, she didn't fancy bathing due to her anxiety with water, being unable to swim and all. She used to cover up her fear by claiming she wore a "healthy layer of earth". Nowadays, she loved coming home and decompressing in the mist of a nice hot shower.
Once inside, she removed her pin and her hair came loose down to her lower back. She ran her fingers through and inhaled as the steam from the water thickened in the air Toph began to feel heat, but not from the water slipping onto her bare body. She felt her womanly desires calling her, and she became flush between her legs. Ignoring it, she continued washing the earth out of her onyx hair. She messaged her breasts with soap, which had grown the most in the last year, forcing her to bind them under her uniform.
Toph was about done, but the pulsating sensation in her lower region, started to ache. She took her fingers, which were thinner now that she was older and delicately moved her hand down past her navel until she could feel the cluster of nerves that kept begging for attention. As she parted the head of her lips, Toph threw her head back and moaned in pleasure as the droplets pattered down her face.
She was a hardened fighter, a warrior, yet still a woman, but she kept that side to herself. Her fingers traced the outlines of her opening in circles as her desire pooled more and more. She laid her other arm against the wall of her wash room and thought of the man she missed. Toph refused to say his name, and at this moment just wanted to play out the dream she had kept secret.
She pictured the smallest things, like the sound of his voice and the weight of his muscled body on top of her as she started weaving between gasps and high-pitched moans. Her hips swayed back and forth slowly against the pressure of her fingers. Toph pictured herself straddling him tightly as his hands would run up her body caressing her soft breasts. He would then take control and sit upright facing her, his entirety fully pressed inside of her and pull back her hair which would only make her grab him by the neck and ride him faster.
Fuck...
She could feel the pressure, the surge of warmth causing tingles across every inch of her porcelain body. It wasn't enough; she wanted more. For the first time Toph pressed two of her fingers inside of herself, and the sensation of pain and pleasure consumed her. Her toes curled and she heard cracks form and split a few of the granite tiles under her as she came harder than she ever had, letting out a loud moan. Gasping for air, she stood as the water trickled down her legs, and her knees started to shake. She couldn't believe how desperately she needed that. In this moment, she was herself, not the Blind Bandit, not Master Beifong, no. She was just herself. For all the ego, pride, and rough exterior she wore similar to her armor she hated how soft she truly was. These flashes and vivid dreams of pure intimacy she had time and time again while bathing were as close to reality she could ever hope for with him.
Honestly, she knew this was why she had closed herself off to the people and things around her. It made her feel stupid, and sad all at once, so when she left the shower, that weakness stayed in there too. She didn't need, nor want those emotions, she told herself. She spent a few minutes drying off and didn't worry about dressing in her usual nightgown and just fell back onto her bed.
She used her metalbending to remove her special bracelet that had been gifted to her and began to play with it, forming shapes of every kind. She couldn't help it any more and said his name out loud like a whisper as held what he'd given her.
"Sokka..."
So much for being tough.
