Chapter 05: The Seven Kin of Purgatory
Tenrou Island – Cliff
The explosion that Azuma made started to die down as dust continued to fill up the area. "With this, I am closer to victory." Azuma said.
Wendy, Panther Lily and Carla winced before they saw Yuya shielding them with his body. "You okay?" Yuya grunted.
"You're hurt." Wendy saw burns on Yuya's body.
"Don't worry about, I've been in worse situations." Yuya stood up.
Yuya LP: 4000→1500
"Hey, where did that other guy go?" Yuya noticed that Mest was gone.
"Looks like he took advantage of the attack to slip away." Panther Lily guessed.
"He's probably heading to the Magic Council." Carla said.
"We'll worry about him later. Right now, we need to focus on the opponent in front of us." Yuya said as they all looked at Azuma.
Azuma LP: 4000
"Wait, that attack was supposed to damage both players, why does he still have all his points?" Panther Lily was confused.
"He must've cheated. That's the only explanation." Carla accused.
"No, he had a plan." Yuya narrowed his eyes.
"That is correct." Azuma answered. "Tower Burst would've dealt me damage if I hadn't discard the Monster Card known as Hollow Tree! It's Monster Effect allows me to avoid Effect Damage inflicted onto me. Furthermore, so long as this card remains in the Graveyard, my opponent will take 500 points of damage at the End Phase of their every turn."
"Which means Yuya will take more damage." Wendy got worried.
"That being said, since I activated Tower Burst, I'm not allowed to summon a monster. I end my turn." Azuma finished his turn. "Now, try to take me down, if you can."
Yuya LP: 1500, Hand: 1
Azuma LP: 4000, Hand: 3
"My turn! Draw!" Yuya drew his card and smiled. "I set one card and activate the Magic Card: Treasure Cards from the Heavens! This allows both of us to draw until we have six cards in our hand!" Yuya drew six new cards while Azuma drew only three.
"Using the Scale 4 Entermate Trump Witch and the Scale 8 Synthesis Magician, I set the Pendulum Scale!" Yuya set his scale and a tiny witch along with his Pendulum Magician that specializes in Xyz appeared in columns of blue light.
"With this, I can simultaneously summon monsters from Levels 5 to 7! Swing, Pendulum of my soul! Draw an arc of light across the ether! Pendulum Summon! Appear! With your wondrous and beautiful dichromatic eyes! Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon (ATK: 2500, LV: 7, PS: 4)!" Yuya summoned his ace.
"A dragon…" Wendy looked at Odd-Eyes with awe.
"What a majestic sight." Panther Lily admitted.
"It is beautiful." Carla commented.
"Next, I Normal Summon Entermate Rakudown (ATK: 500, LV: 4, PS: 2)!" Yuya summoned a camel with two humps.
"Battle! Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon! Direct Attack! Spiral Strike Burst!" Odd-Eyes unleashed his breath attack on Azuma.
"Useless! From my Graveyard, I activate the Trap Card: Great Tree Arc: Chain Burst!" Azuma took a card from his Graveyard and showed it. "When I'm attacked directly while I have this card in my Graveyard, by banishing this card, all monsters that are currently on your field are prohibited from attacking!" Wooden chains trapped both Odd-Eyes and Rakudown.
"Furthermore, at the End Phase of my opponent's turn, all monsters affected by Chain Burst are destroyed and the opponent takes 800 points of damage!" Azuma revealed.
"That amount of damage is greater than his Life Points." Panther Lily did the math.
"So, it's over." Carla said.
"It's not over yet! I activate Trump Witch's Pendulum Effect! Once per turn, during the Battle Phase, I can select two monsters and use them as material for a Fusion Summon!" Yuya revealed. Trump Witch created a spiraling vortex. "I fuse Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon and Entermate Rakudown!" Both monsters went into the vortex.
"Oh beast that survives the scorching land. Become one with the mysterious dragon, and create a new power! Fusion Summon! Come forth! Ferocious Dragon with luminous feral eyes! Level 8! Beast-Eyes Pendulum Dragon (ATK: 3000, LV: 8)!" Yuya summoned his Fusion Monster.
"You got around my trap?!" Azuma was surprised.
"Battle! Beast-Eyes Pendulum Dragon! Direct Attack! Hell Dive Burst!" Beast-Eyes unleashed his attack and it struck Azuma hard, making him grunt in pain.
Azuma LP: 4000→1000
"Alright!" Wendy cheered.
"He turned the tide of battle!" Lily nodded in approvement.
"One more attack and it's over!" Carla declared.
Suddenly, the ground started to shake. "Huh? What now?" Yuya looked around.
"It seems my comrades have arrived." Azuma looked behind him. "And the fateful meeting of the two masters of Fairy Tail is at hand."
"Two masters of Fairy Tail?"
Edge of Tenrou Island
Makarov grew into his giant stance as a black ship approached the island. "Be gone!" Makarov ordered with venom. "Turn back or suffer the wrath of Fairy Tail."
"Keep moving forward." The Master of Grimoire Heart ordered. The ship continued to move towards the island, forcing Makarov to attack the ship. He was able to get one hit, but it became too fast.
"Prepare the Magic Cannon: Jupiter!" A large cannon extended from the ship and aimed towards Makarov. "Since it's your cannon, I'll let you be the one to fire it." The Master looked next to him to another man, who smiled.
"Oh, how long I've waited to hear those words." The man smiled. "Fire!" The cannon fired at Makarov, but he still remained standing as the cannon only gave him a burnt mark.
"Tch, he's still alive."
"Relax, you'll have your revenge on him soon enough. For now, I'll handle him. You take care of his children."
"Sir."
"Caprico, head to the island and have our forces take control of it."
"Sir." A goat like man headed for the island and past Makarov.
"Run if you like, but there is no escape." Makarov formed magic energy in his hands. "I'm going to give you till the count of three to get out of my sight! Otherwise, you and your comrades will see the other side of oblivion!"
"The ultimate magic spell that vanquishes whoever the caster sees as their enemy. One of the three great Fairy Spells."
Tenrou Island – Cliffside
"Wendy! Yuya!"
"Carla! Lily!"
Everyone turned to see Natsu and Happy running towards them.
"Natsu!" Wendy was relieved to see one of her friends.
"Guys, Grimoire Heart is attacking the island!" Happy shouted.
"We already know. I'm dealing with him right now." Yuya said as he looked at Azuma.
"Natsu Dragneel. The one who defeated Zero of the Oracion Seis. Son of the Fire Dragon King, Igneel. You are a strong opponent we've been warned about." Azuma said.
"You want to go? Then let's go!" Natsu prepared to fight.
"Unfortunately, I don't have time to waste on a second-rate fighter. My current fight is with Yuya Ryuga." Azuma said.
"Second-rate?! I'll show you second-rate!" Natsu was gonna charge in until Yuya extended his arm to block him.
"This is not just you're fight. Everyone on this island is in danger. I can handle this guy, you go and help your friends." Yuya said.
"I can stay, back you up." Natsu said.
"You're arrogant to think you can defeat us, look above us!" Azuma pointed up. They all saw Caprico dropping orbs which popped to reveal armed soldiers. "We easily outnumber you and our master is about to do away with your master." The soldiers started surrounding the members of Fairy Tail.
Fairy Tail – Forest
Gajeel and Levy stood back to back as the soldiers surrounded them. "There's a lot of them." Levy said.
"Then let's take care of them quickly. Iron Dragon Roar!" Gajeel unleashed his breath attack.
Tenrou Island - Clearing
Naruto ran out into the clearing and looking left and right. "Come on, where the hell are those guys?" An explosion occurred in front of him and smoke started to rise.
"There!" Naruto ran faster.
Tenrou Island – Edge
"1…2…3! Time's up! Fairy Law!" Makarov began to unleash his Fairy Law spell with shining gold light.
"Don't be so hasty!" The master of Grimoire Heart did a similar pose, but with dark energy instead. "Grimoire Law!"
"What?!" Makarov was shocked by the spell.
"These spells serve their intensive purposes. However, should neither of us back down, the results will cause a scar of cataclysmic proportions on this world!"
"Y-You're…" Makarov recognized the master as he stopped his Fairy Law. "Master Precht!" Makarov acknowledged the man.
"Precht is no more. I am…Master Hades!" Hades revealed his name. Hades stopped his Grimoire Law but summoned chains that easily beat Makarov, forcing him to go back to his regular form and land on the island.
"I've seen you've traded your ideals for a darker road." Makarov said.
"It seems that you still haven't changed your view of that black and white world. I thought making you master would have changed that, but it seems I was wrong." Hades said.
"I don't give a damn; I see my enemies clearly." Makarov stood up. "Be as it may, I don't want to fight you. Leave now."
"I'm afraid that is not an option for me. You see my priority is not only the destruction of Fairy Tail, but for the deaths of these three individuals." Hades showed a poster to Makarov making his eyes widen.
"Yuya Ryuga, legendary hero who defeated the dragon of time and space, Genesis. Naruto Uzumaki, Jinchuriki of the Nine Tailed Demon Fox. And Natsu Dragneel, son of the Fire Dragon King Igneel." The poster had pictures of Yuya, Naruto and Natsu.
"What? Why?! Why do you want those boys?" Makarov asked.
"If you really want to know the reason, then defeat me. Not that you can even if you tried." Hades said.
Makarov closed his eyes. "I don't know much about those other boys…but Natsu is one of my children and I won't let any harm come to them!" Makarov waved his arms and Hades followed they both launched magic energy at each other.
"Purge the darkness oh ray of light!" Makarov unleashed rays of light.
"That's not enough, Makarov! Swallow the light through shadow and terror of darkness!" Hades made a shield of darkness to absorb the light.
"In that case!" Makarov did another spell, but Hades was faster. "What?! He cast the Amaterasu Formula 28 circle like it was nothing!"
"This is the difference between us!" Hades unleashed his spell. However, Makarov used light to defend himself.
However, Hades used chains to trap Makarov and started throwing Makarov around like a toy, beating him mercilessly. "This is how I embrace the dark arts!"
Makarov suddenly sound himself surrounded by dark circles. "Maximum Defense Magic Circle! Three Pillar Gods!" Makarov summoned three pillars.
"Amaterasu Formula 100!" Hades unleashed his spell which engulfed a quarter of the island.
Tenrou Island – Cliffside
"Right now, our soldiers are taking on Fairy Tail, and as they are doing that, my fellow Kin of Purgatory are searching this island for the Dark Wizard Zeref." Azuma explained.
"Zeref…" Natsu's eyes widened. "Is he talking about that guy?" Natsu remembered Zeref.
"Natsu…are you thinking…" Happy looked at Natsu worriedly.
"They're after the guy we met earlier, yeah. I do." Natsu said.
"What are you talking about?" Carla asked.
"Natsu and I actually met Zeref earlier. He was saying some really mean stuff like Fairy Tail holding Natsu back." Happy said.
"Oh, so you know where he is." Azuma heard.
"Hey, you're facing me. Unless you're a coward." Yuya called out.
"Don't worry, Azuma, I'll get the answers out of that punk!"
Appearing was a man with long yellow hair, red eyes and yellow, red blue robes. "Zancrow." Azuma said.
"Another member of Grimoire Heart." Yuya narrowed his eyes.
"So, you're the famous Fire Dragon Slayer. Heh, talk about weak." Zancrow insulted.
"What did you say?!" Natsu got mad.
"Your flames are nothing more than sparkles. This is real fire!" Zancrow created a magic circle and black flames shot out.
"Fire doesn't work on me!" Natsu prepared to eat the flames.
"Natsu, wait! Those flames are dangerous!" Wendy shouted. The flames hit Natsu and like Wendy said, the flames were dangerous as Natsu couldn't eat them.
"Wh-What? Why can't I eat them?!" Natsu exclaimed.
"These flames…they feel…divine…" Yuya's eyes widened as he felt the flames, flames that were as powerful as an Egyptian God.
"Natsu, this guy's fire is that of a god!" Yuya shouted.
"A god?" Natsu questioned.
"That's right! My flames are superior to yours because they were made to slay gods! And everyone knows gods are more powerful that puny dragons!" Zancrow boasted.
"A God Slayer…" Wendy trembled.
Tenrou Island – Ruins
"There's too many of them." Lucy panted.
"They just keep coming." Loke said.
"I'm getting really pissed off here." Gray growled.
"Same here." Cana gritted her teeth in frustration.
"Shadow Clone Jutsu!"
In a puff of smoke, multiple Naruto clones appeared and they instantly gave the masked robed men a merciless beating.
"What magic is this?!" One of the robed men backed away.
"Rasengan!" He was instantly struck in the back by Naruto's Rasengan that he was blown towards a crowd of men and they were all blown off the edge of the ruins and into the sea. "That's how we do things ninja style."
"Hey, what are you doing here?" Gray growled.
"Uh, you're welcome. I saved your asses so a little gratitude would be nice." Naruto said.
"We had things under control." Gray said. "We don't need an outsider's help."
"Oh, I get it. I see what's going on here. Look, you seem like a nice guy, but I don't swing that way." Naruto said.
"What?!" Gray got completely flustered while Lucy, Cana and Loke chuckled. "Why are you saying things like that?"
"Well for one, you're taking off your pants right in front me." Naruto said.
"Argh, damn it!" Gray didn't realize he was doing his habit and quickly put his pants back on.
"And two, you're obviously putting up a tough guy act to try to get me to see you in a more…uh…what's the word…flirtatious way?" Naruto guessed.
"Will you stop it!" Gray shouted. "Man, you're just like Natsu. Annoying as hell."
"Oh?" Naruto raised an eyebrow. "So, is Natsu…you're best friend?"
"What?! No way! We hate each other!" Gray argued.
"I don't know Gray. You're fights have actually toned down a little bit." Loke said.
"Yeah, and you both are getting along better than before." Lucy added.
"We're comrades but we're not best friends. We're rivals. That's it." Gray said.
"Rivals, huh?" Naruto said with a smile.
"You have a rival?" Lucy asked.
"I do…and he's my best friend…even though he tried to kill me." Naruto said, making the others gasp. "It's my fault though, for not listening to his problems and focusing only on myself. Don't take Natsu for granted."
"Shut up…it's none of your business." Gray mumbled.
"Hey, up there." Naruto pointed at the top of some ruins where there was a goat in a suit standing.
"I can feel his power. He's strong." Loke said.
Fairy Tail – Base Camp
"We made it!" Levy smiled as she and Gajeel made it back to camp. "Erza! Mirajane, we—" Levy stopped in her tracks when she saw Erza, Mirajane and Lisanna all passed out, covered in bruises and wounds.
"No way…how?!" Levy was confused.
"It can't be those masked creeps. Those guys are too strong to lose to scum like them. It had to be someone else." Gajeel said.
"You think it was one of the Seven Kin?" Levy asked.
"Our Master has a right hand man."
Levy and Gajeel heard a girl's voice and saw a girl with short pink hair speaking in a monotone voice. "He wants vengeance against those who did him wrong. But first he must deal with the traitors before completing his revenge."
"Hey, who are you?" Gajeel asked.
The girl pointed at Gajeel. "You…are a traitor to him…and he will make you and the Water Wizard pay." The girl then sprinted away.
"Hey!" Gajeel chased after her.
"Gajeel, wait?!" Levy called out but Gajeel was already gone.
Makarov vs Hades
Makarov laid on the ground in defeat as Hades approached him. "You have grown stronger boy, but alas you still cannot defeat me."
"Why? Why are you doing this?" Makarov asked.
"The gates of the multiverse have been opened Makarov. And we of Grimoire Heart have pledged our loyalty to an organization that will allow us to restart the world from the beginning."
"An organization?" Makarov questioned.
"The Dark Phoenix. Powerful individuals who have learned of their fate to be defeated before their dreams could be realized. They wish to eliminate the current world order and restore it in their own image." Hades revealed.
"But…one can overcome fate…you taught me that…" Makarov moaned.
"Oh, Makarov. No one can overcome fate. Before the multiverse was open, the path was set. I know because I would have lost to Fairy Tail had I come here alone with Grimoire Heart. The Dark Phoenix showed me my defeat at the hands of your children. Especially Natsu Dragneel." Hades said.
"But the Dark Phoenix have not only granted me the ability to see the future, they have allowed me to alter fate. They've blessed me with powers that are beyond our world. With that said, the appearance of Yuya Ryuga and Naruto Uzumaki has caused fate to be altered once more. At this point, no one knows who will have victory. At least, not yet."
"What do you mean?" Makarov asked.
"A member of the Dark Phoenix is on this island. You know him of course. The legendary Black Wizard Zeref." Hades said.
"But Zeref was 400 years ago." Makarov argued.
"Zeref is very much alive. And I will find him. He will grant me the power to finally rid this world of Fairy Tail." Hades said.
"But…Mavis…" Makarov finally lost consciousness.
"Go forward my Seven Kin of Purgatory! Ultear Milkovich! Zancrow! Caprico! Rustyrose! Kain Hikaru! Meredy! Azuma!" Hades ordered.
Yuya vs Azuma
"Let us continue our battle, Yuya Ryuga. It's still your turn." Azuma pointed out.
"I end my turn!" Yuya finished his turn.
"At this moment, my Hollow Tree deals you 500 points of damage!" An explosion hit Yuya and he was blown back.
Yuya LP: 1500→1000
Yuya LP: 1000, Hand: 2
Azuma LP: 1000, Hand: 6
"My turn! Draw!" Azuma drew his card. "With this, my victory is assured."
"What?" Yuya questioned.
"From my hand, I activate the Magic Card: Fusion!" Azuma played the Fusion card. "This card allows me to use monsters on my field or in my hand as materials for a Fusion Summon! I fuse the two Dark Monsters in my hand!" Azuma showed the cards. "Predator Plants Darling Cobra! Predator Plants Fly Hell!"
"What?! Predator Plants?!" Yuya's eyes widened.
"Two beautiful flowers with an insect-alluring fragrance! Now become one, and from the hell beneath your petals, give birth to a new terror! Fusion Summon! Appear! Poisonous dragon with hungry fangs. Level 8! Starve Venom Fusion Dragon (ATK: 2800, LV: 8)!" Azuma brought out a familiar dragon to both Yuya and Odd-Eyes.
"No way…" Yuya trembled.
"Starve Venom!" Odd-Eyes called out.
"Why do you have that card?! That belongs to Yuri!" Yuya shouted.
"This is now my card." Azuma smiled.
"Bastard…well how about this! Reverse card, open! Fusion Cancel! This sends one Fusion Monster back to the Extra Deck and Special Summon its materials from the Graveyard! I return Starve Venom to you're Extra Deck!" Starve Venom disappeared and the Predator Plants from before came back.
"Interesting…but not good enough. I activate a second Fusion from my hand!" Azuma played another Fusion Card.
"Another Fusion?!" Yuya exclaimed.
"Fusion Summon! Starve Venom Fusion Dragon (ATK: 2800, LV: 8)!" Azuma brought back Starve Venom. "I should thank you for cancelling my earlier Fusion."
"Shit…" Yuya cursed.
"I activate Starve Venom's effect! Once per turn, when it's Fusion Summoned using only monsters on my field, I can make this card gain Attack Points equal to the combined Attack Points of all Special Summoned monsters on my opponent's field!" Starve Venom gained power from its wings.
Starve Venom Fusion Dragon (ATK: 2800→5800)
"It's stronger than Beast-Eyes!" Lily shouted.
"Battle! Starve Venom Fusion Dragon, attack Beast-Eyes Pendulum Dragon! Acid Venemous Blast!" Starve Venom unleashed its attack on Beast-Eyes.
"Counter Trap: Attack Nullfication! This negates your monster's attack and ends the Battle Phase!" Yuya played his other set card.
"Useless! Quick-Play Magic: Tree Fist! When my opponent activates a Magic or Trap card during the Battle Phase, I can activate this card! It negates my opponent's card activation and destroy it!" Yuya's card was destroyed.
"Now begone! Beast-Eyes!" Azuma ordered. The attack got closer to Beast-Eyes.
"Yuya!" Wendy, Carla and Lily cried out.
"I activate my Continuous Trap: Life Force! I pay 400 Life Points to make the Battle Damage 0!" Beast-Eyes was destroyed but Life Force activated protecting Yuya from the damage.
But then, Yuya was electrocuted by Life Points, making him grunt in pain.
Yuya LP: 1000→600
"So, you're survived by the skin of your teeth. I admire your tenacity." Azuma said. "I set one card and end my turn!"
Yuya LP: 600, Hand: 2
Azuma LP: 1000, Hand: 2
Tenrou Island – Fairy Tail Base Camp
Erza moaned as she started to wake up. "Erza, are you okay?" Levy asked.
"Levy…" Erza moaned.
"Ow, my head." Mirajane rubbed her head.
"I'm gonna feel this for a while." Lisanna rubbed a bump on her head.
"What happened here?" Levy asked.
"We were about to head out to face the enemy, but then Juvia attacked us." Mirajane explained.
"Juvia did this?" Levy was surprised.
"She just attacked us out of nowhere. She easily overpowered all of us." Lisanna admitted.
"Her power was nothing like it was during the exams. And Juvia isn't the type to attack a comrade like this. I think she's being mind controlled." Erza said.
"Mind controlled. By who?" Levy asked.
"I don't know, but it has to be a powerful wizard." Erza said. "Wait, where's Gajeel? Wasn't he with you?"
"He chased after a member of the Grimoire Heart. I hope he's okay.
Tenrou Island – Forest
Gajeel panted as he kept running. "Man, that brat is fast." Gajeel then stopped when he saw some of Grimoire Heart's soldiers on the ground defeated.
"What the?" Gajeel looked around.
"Drip, drip, drip."
Gajeel turned and saw Juvia in the distance. "Hey, Juvia!" Gajeel called out but Juvia kept walking away.
"Hey!" Gajeel ran, but suddenly it started to rain, making it harder for him to see and keep his footing as Juvia kept getting further away. "Juvia! What are you doing?!" Gajeel called out.
He then saw the silhouette of another person with Juvia. "Who is…" Gajeel tried to get a look at the man, but couldn't see his face.
"Well done, Juvia." The man spoke, sending chills down Gajeel's spine. He knew that voice.
"Yes…Master…" Juvia bowed.
"Let this be the start of our guild's resurrection." The man turned and his cape showed a familiar symbol to Gajeel.
"It can't be…" Gajeel tried to get closer but soon Juvia and the man disappeared. "Damn…I didn't think he would be here." Gajeel knew the man and the symbol that he bore on his cape. It was because he had that same symbol before.
"Master Jose."
