Rose Tyler held her left hand up to let the sunlight catch the jewel. The yellow sparkled brightly, illuminating her face. The diamonds surrounding it cast a rainbow on the bed. It was the perfect ring.
John stirred next to her and she turned to face him. He was so adorable when he slept. His hair was slightly mussed and she gently ran her fingers through it, the sunlight once again catching a facet of the diamond. She smiled softly.
As John continued to sleep, Rose thought back to last night when he had asked her to marry him. She had no idea he had been planning this. She suspected it would happen some day, but didn't think it would be this recent. Yet, it didn't feel rushed. Given that they have known and been in love with each other for years, this just felt like the next step.
When they arrived, they checked into Glennan House and couldn't believe the view. Living in London, they don't get to see much of the countryside. But this place was so beautiful. They entered their suite and after making things feel like home, decided to tour the grounds.
After texting Clara, of course.
While it was definitely just a trip for them, John's little sister still wanted updates. Rose wondered why; it was simply a vacation. She had asked Clara to come with them; after all, she was her best friend. But Clara said no. Once John explained that he wanted some time for just them, Rose understood. No matter how much she loved her best friend, she could sometimes be in the way when it came to their relationship. And Rose was eager for some John time after everything they both had been through.
Rose sat on the bed and noticed John take extra care of a suit jacket. She asked why he was treating it so delicately; it wasn't like he didn't have other suit jackets. He just said because he didn't want any wrinkles for their romantic dinner tomorrow night. The blonde chuckled, satisfied with his answer.
They held hands as they walked around the property. It was absolutely gorgeous! And several people stopped to talk to them. One recognized the two from the trial. He said he was happy that it turned out in their favor and he hoped River Song went away for a long time. John smiled and relayed some of the incidents that didn't come out at the trial, such as kissing him without consent that New Year's Eve. The man smiled at Rose and told John he had a beautiful girlfriend to which John wrapped his arm around her waist securely.
"That I do," he said proudly.
Stopping at a moor, the young couple stood in awe of the beauty of the island. They could see for miles. The wind gently blew in their faces. John almost wished he had brought the ring along as this would be a good time to ask her. But he wanted to stick to the plan.
"John," Rose sighed and laid her head on his shoulder.
He smiled, not saying anything and wrapped his arm around her while kissing the top of her head. They watched the sky's colors change as the sun began to set. It was the perfect scene; just the two of them with no worries.
"I wish we could just stay here," she said quietly. He hummed in response.
Rose lifted her head and pressed her lips to his. "Thank you for suggesting this place for vacation. I'm so in love with it already."
He kissed her back, gently. "Me as well."
Resuming her kiss, her lips strengthened against his. Soon, they couldn't tell where one stopped and the other one began. The sun had almost completely set and cast a red hue over them.
Pulling back for a breath, Rose said "I love you so much, Dr. John Smith. Sometimes I worry that I'll lose you, that someone like River Song will come along and you'll leave me."
He pressed a kiss to her forehead. "Never, Rose." He held her tighter. "You had my heart from that first day in high school and it has only grown stronger." He had so much he wanted to tell her, but he had to hold himself back until tomorrow night.
It would be the longest twenty-four hours of his life.
They continued kissing for a few more minutes before heading back to the bed and breakfast for the evening. They ordered take out and cuddled up in bed, watching old movies and just relishing in each other's company.
John Smith stirred in the bed and opened his eyes, looking into the cinnamon ones of his gorgeous fiancée. He couldn't believe she was his. She had said yes! To him! John Smith. The bowtie-wearing, floppy-haired scientist with a stalker that he didn't even know about until recently. Rose Tyler was an international model; she could have anyone she wanted. And she chose him.
Leaning forward, he kissed her hard and rolled them in the bed so he was on top. Today was a good day to remain in bed, ravishing his fiancée.
The day of the proposal was bright and warm. It was the perfect day. They lounged in their suite for a bit before heading down to breakfast. For the amount of money they were paying, they wanted to make use of the room. The owner of the bed and breakfast knew about John's plan and had ordered a bottle of champagne and some strawberries to be delivered to the room that night. She smiled brightly at the couple, making eye contact with John.
He winked at her, and her heart fluttered. He was too cute for words. Rose Tyler was a very lucky woman.
They spent much of the day exploring the area. Scotland was beautiful. Rose had been there once for a shoot, but never had time to experience it. It was a simple fly in, shoot some pictures, fly out. Very business-like. This was John's first time in Scotland. He was ecstatic to be there with her.
In the early afternoon, they returned to their room to relax and get ready for dinner. John tried to concentrate on his book while Rose showered; he wanted nothing more than to join her. But he held himself back. This trip was to be about more than just sex, though sex was starting to play a major role since they arrived.
I've become addicted, he laughed to himself.
Rose had packed a blue sundress with a matching bolero jacket and nude flats. She wore her hair in a ponytail and had on a sapphire necklace that was given to her by a client from a shoot years ago. The necklace laid perfectly on her chest, accenting her cleavage.
John wore a plain white shirt with matching blue pants and jacket. He patted the inside jacket pocket for the twentieth time that day to ensure the ring was still there. Sighing, he smiled at his hopefully soon-to-be-fiancée. She was gorgeous. He kissed her cheek and they descended the stairs.
"Have a great time," the owner said as she smiled brightly at them. She would wait to deliver the goodies to the room just in case the answer was no. Sadly, she had seen that far too many times in her career.
Dinner was an absolute pleasure. John ordered a bottle of wine and they split dessert. Rose talked and flirted with the servers as they recognized her. John found it funny that even in this part of the world, they knew this beautiful woman. HIS beautiful woman.
The restaurant had an attached dance hall next to it, so the couple popped in. They spent an hour just swaying in each other's arms, not hearing the music. Other patrons found it amusing that they did their own thing when fast songs were playing. But no one dared break their romantic bubble.
Afterwards, they took an Uber back to the bed and breakfast and walked one of the moonlit trails. The place was even more stunning in the darkness. Fairy lights lit the place up and lawn lights glowed on the cobble path, so they had no trouble seeing. Rose had been having the time of her life. She couldn't believe they were there. The moon shone brightly, illuminating her. She looked like a goddess.
Stopping at another moor, she took a step closer and breathed deeply. The ocean water was salty and clean and refreshing. Closing her eyes, she spoke.
"Thank you for bringing me here, John."
No reply.
Opening her eyes, she turned around and gasped. John Smith was kneeling before her, holding up a small, black satin box. In it sat the most beautiful ring she had ever seen in her entire life.
"John?" she whispered.
He swallowed. Here goes nothing.
"Rose Tyler," he started, his voice shaking a bit. She smiled softly. "I told you yesterday that you had my heart since high school. That was not a lie. Every day I thought about you, even when I shouldn't have. When I had buried my feelings, I often wondered why I would still react when when you went out with someone. I tried to play it off as a protective friend, though I was clearly wrong. My subconscious never let me completely let go of us being together."
She smiled wider and nodded, taking his free hand. The moonlight bounced off of the diamond making the yellow glow in the dark.
"Ever since we began dating, my life has improved dramatically. Even with everything that happened, it only made us stronger. People tried to tear us apart, and they failed. I was never really able to fight my feelings and I definitely can't do that now. I love you so, so much, Rose Tyler."
He swallowed, looking deeply into her cinnamon eyes.
"If you will do me the honor of being my wife, I promise to love you every day. I will do right by you. I will make myself worthy. God knows you deserve the best."
She squeezed his hand. I already have the best, she thought.
"Rose Tyler," he said quietly, as though to not break the spell around them. "Will you marry me?"
She stared into his green eyes a moment longer, tears threatening to spill over. She nodded vigorously.
"Yes! Yes of course I will."
Grinning widely, John stood up and pulled her to him. He smashed his lips to hers and she kissed back just as intensely. Then he took the ring out and placed it on her finger.
"Oh John," she said as she stared at it. "It's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen."
"Second only to you," he replied. She kissed him again, passionately this time. The moonlight made the jewel glow again.
"Thank you so much."
He pulled back and kissed her hand. "Thank you for accepting."
They kissed again, the heat between them growing. Knowing what was coming next, they walked back to their room. John nodded at the owner who immediately sent the champagne and strawberries up.
Once the order was received, the two lovers couldn't keep their hands off each other. The passion in the room was more than it had ever been between them.
"Fuck me, John," Rose said as he slipped her bra off. He picked her up and placed her on the desk in the room. She wrapped her legs around him instantly, drawing him to her center and feeling how hard he was against her. She rubbed her core against his clothed erection, needing his heat. John Smith groaned as he grew harder. He dove for her neck and her eyes fluttered closed.
"Fuck me so hard that even River Song will hear us from her prison cell."
John laughed against her skin. "You wish, my command."
They didn't leave the comfort of their room for two days.
