"Are you seriously wearing shoes on the bed?" A low cold voice asks and I am burst from the deep sleep I was in. I sit up in surprise, my heart pounding from shock and I'm met eye to eye with the Dark Man again.
I glance down at my dirty shoes, resting on top of the blankets. Which do have a little dirt on them now as they rest beneath my feet.
"what the fuck are you doing here?" I spit out. He looks worse than yesterday somehow. His hair as messy as mine as it spills slightly over his shoulders and he stares at me with his hands in his pockets.
"You'll do well to watch your language Akumu" he states back. Completely ignoring my question. "Here." He tosses a pile of gray fabric onto the ground at my door. "Get dressed. We are starting training."
I just realized I have no idea who this guy is.
I look at him in disbelief. "Training for what?" I glare at him and glance down at the clothes as I'm sitting up on the mattress across from them.
"Hero training." He says without batting an eye and walking out. I hear the locks click again. This fucking guy.
I sit up and feel my heart start to steady itself after he leaves. I look down at my shoes and back at the hump of clothes on the ground. I click the toes of my shoes together and a piece of dried mud falls off.
Note to self: no shoes on bed.
I stretch out and stand to grab the thin grey t shirt and baggy pants off the ground. Are these even my size?
I hold one up to me and the hem of the shirt goes almost mid thigh. I sigh and take off the layers I have on currently.
I pull off my sage green jacket. Which now is more of like a burnt brown color and is covered in holes. I have a long sleeve and a black t shirt under that which I remove as I'm left in a bulky training bra I stole from a dumpster 3 years ago. It goes almost to my belly button and is flat as fuck but does the job. I throw the new gray shirt over it and slide off my long camo pants as well. Sliding on the grey sweats that THANKFULLY have a tie so I can actually wear them. They dangle off my legs and I bend down to roll the cuffs of the pants so I don't trip over them.
I glance back over to the mirror on the wall. Now that I'm not covered in layers, I look at my bare arms, a little dirty, and frail and thin. I knew I had a small frame but I never took much time to consider it. I sigh and head towards the door. I twist the nob but it doesn't open. Oh right. It's locked.
"I'm ready now!" I yell as I bang my fist on the door. The locks click and the dark man opens the door.
"Let's go." He says and holds the door open.
I cross my arms and stand in the doorway. "Who are you?" It came out like more of a demand than a question.
He looks back at me for a moment but doesn't hesitate. "I'm Shota Aizawa. Your teacher."
"For 'hero training'?" I say, using my fingers as quotation marks.
"Yes. Now move. You're wasting time." He lets go of the door and shuffles away. I stand for a moment but as the door falls, I catch it and follow after him.
The area of the house is much more bright now. I can see the kitchen and living room, straight out of a movie poster or the commercials they have on the outside of buildings. I've seen them a few times in magazines but never in real life. The kitchen has hanging lights over a floating counter that's not connected the area with a stove and oven. I notice that unlike the magazines I've seen, there's no decoration or personality to the kitchen at all. The walls are all white and there's no pictures or anything to signify that someone lives here.
"Who's is this? Does someone live here or is it just empty?" I ask as I look around, entering the living room.
I hear Aizawa scoff as he walks towards the door.
"It's mine. And next time you will take your shoes off at the door." I look down at my muddy shoes as I walk through the house. But it finally clicks and my head snaps up.
"Yours?!"
Aizawa swings the front door open. "Yes."
Why am I staying in this dudes room? Who the hell is this guy?
I follow him out of the room. As we step outside I notice the light coming through the hallways windows. Looks like it's probably 9am? Based on where the suns at. What time of year is it? Spring? Must be-
My thoughts are cut off as he speaks. "You will be training with me 2 times a day until I decide you are ready to join a real class."
I watch him as we walk. His back is turned towards me but I can tell he's walking slower than his normal place.
"A real class? Like for school?"
I feel a little hesitation from him but he responds "Yes. Like for school. You will be doing class work along with physical and mental preparation for hero work."
"I'm not a hero." I say firmly. Walking a little faster to catch up to him. As I'm finally standing next to him, I realize how big this guy is. I'm a solid 5'3 and this guy is almost a foot taller than me.
He ignores my comment and continues. We happen upon a large flight of stairs and I watch him as we go.
"Today I'm going to be testing your quirk. Seeing how you use it in a practical sense." Practical? "If you don't give it your all then I'll see no point in having you attend this school. Do you understand?" He pauses at the end of the stairs and looks at me. His large frame a little smaller than me while I stand a couple stairs above. His hands haven't left his pockets.
"Sure." I say coldly. Most of me doesn't even want to give this creep the time of day but I have to until I can figure out a plan to escape.
We head outside the large hotel like space and not too far away is a large field. We stand in the center with a large white ring laid in the grass.
"The rest of the students have already completed these trials. Now you have to prove you deserve to enroll with them." Aizawa says as he stares down at me. He hands me a ball. "Throw it as far as you can."
I look at the ball. "I don't understand how this is a trial."
He shoves the ball forward towards me. "Use your quirk. And stop being a smart ass."
I almost feel shocked that he would curse already. "Yeah alright whatever" I mumble as I take the ball. Grazing his fingers with mine. He DID say to use my powers.
I activate my quirk. My eyes filling with black smoke and stars as I pull out his fear. But I pause. I look over my shoulder to face him.
I can't. I look back and throw the ball with all my might. It lands about 30 feet in front of me and I turn around to face him.
"That was disappointing" He says as he turns around to show me the meter. 43 feet. Checks out.
"My quirk isn't gonna do anything in stupid tests like this."
"Then your quirk is useless."
I look at him in utter shock. Excuse me? Useless because I can't throw a fucking baseball?
He continues. "Your quirk is not going to solve all your problems for you if you use it like you are. You need to find more ways to use it to your advantage." He pauses. "Throw it again."
I don't have anything stored that will allow me to throw very far. The best I could do is..
I focus my energy on my hands. I feel my eyes turn black again and I can feel trickles of smoke pour from the pit of my palms. I try to hold it back. Waiting for it to build. I close my eyes and pull my arm back, gripping the ball tightly. And I launch.
I use the smoke to propel the ball as much as possible.
I turn around and Aizawa is already holding the screen towards me "80 feet. Still not great but double what it was before. Let's move on."
I pant slightly and feel my eyes slide back to normal. Before nodding slightly.
Aizawa makes me do a few more dumb trials. Standing long jump, a grip test and a 50-meter-dash. I don't do well on all of them but he makes me try over and over again.
I'm panting heavily by the time we're done. I breath after the dash and rest my hands on my knees while I bend over. Aizawas checks his watch.
"Come on. We have to go back to the dorm."
A dorm. That's what it's called.
"Why? What time is it?" I ask as I huff in exhaustion.
"12pm. I'll have someone drop some food off for you soon." He responds and gestures me to walk with him back.
"Drop food off? Will you not be there?" I say as I start to catch up with him. My poor short legs doing double the steps.
"No. I have to go teach." He says as he shoves his hands back in his pockets.
"Teach who? You train other people too?"
He glances at me for a moment as we reach the familiar stairs we came down earlier. "I teach a class."
I look at him for a moment. "Wait like a lot of people? My age?" I ask a little too eagerly as we reach the top of the stairs and the long hallway. But this time, it's not empty like before. I see a couple students in gray and green uniforms that are frantically scurrying off somewhere.
"Yes." He says shortly as we reach door #6. He opens it for me.
"You have to stay in your room while I'm gone." He leads me past the living room and kitchen again. "For now."
I walk a little disappointedly to the door of 'my room'. Sad that I wouldn't get to finally explore the so called dorm that I'm sharing with.. a teacher? My teacher??
"Why am I sleeping here? In this place?"
He looks at me. "In my dorm?" He asks. "Because I'm the one who can control that quirk of yours... Your door and the apartment door have alarms on them so don't even think about trying anything." He doesn't even give me a moment to process before he turns, shuts the door and I hear 3 locks click again. I'm getting awfully used to that sound. I sigh.
