John felt a hand get gingerly placed on his shoulder while he held Amélie close as she calmed down from her sobs. He looked over quickly to see Angela looking at the screens, still horrified at what she was seeing. He rubbed his hand over Amélie's back as she got her breathing under control, helping her calm down.
"Th-thank you, John." Ams said as she caught her breath.
"You know I'm here for you, Ams." he replied as he pulled her in tighter for a moment, then slowly pulled away. He finally turned to the Swiss Doctor and asked, "I assume you want to talk in private?"
"Y-yes. I would very much like that." she said, finally pulling her vision from the horrors on the screens.
"Then you'd better lead the way since I don't know this place." he said as he stood up and looked back to Ams. "I'll be back in a bit."
"Alright." she said as she wiped the remaining tears from her face.
John quickly turned around to everyone else in the room and announced "If I find out anyone harassed her while I'm gone, the offender will be set on fire." he then proceeded to follow Mercy out the door, up the stairs, and into a bedroom and shut the door behind him before sitting on the foot of the bed. "Alright, you probably have a few hundred questions, so start where you want."
"Alright, the obvious starting point I can think of is Are you and Amélie in a relationship?"
"Short answer? No. You remember how close her, Frenchie, and I were before my reenactment of the Titanic?" he asked, getting a nod of acknowledgement. "I wasn't there for them when all that shit happened. Helping her is kinda my way of making up for that."
"Alright, how are you alive? People don't just come back from the dead a decade after they died."
"I fought through hell itself to make my way home."
"Be serious." she complained.
"I'm dead serious." he said with a grin, which quickly failed as he thought for a moment. "Or I suppose undead serious...?"
"*sigh* Alright, why haven't you come to me before?" she asked, her emotions starting to show as her voice began to tremble. "I know you've been back for almost a year now, and in all that time I haven't heard a thing. Why?" she asked again, tears appearing in her eyes.
"The big question..." he sighed. "Look, when I first got back, I was in rough shape. It took me hours to hobble my ass to that facility just to get put under and have most of my limbs ripped off and replaced."
"The machine doesn't rip the limbs off." she huffed.
"Not at the point yet." he responded. "I spent a few hours getting the facility up and running, not to mention the week I spent replacing my gear and the replacement limbs with better quality ones that did what I needed. After all of that I finally got the base access to the web and did a deep dive on Overwatch and you. You can imagine what came up."
groan* "That damn story about me and Genji..." she complained.
"Exactly." he confirmed "I didn't find out until a lot more recently that you two weren't actually a thing, by that point, I was already ass deep in omnic forces and couldn't go to you anyway."
"Alright. I have one more question. Do you still love me?"
"Well I was pretty fucking heartbroken when I found out about you and the wind-up toy, so I'm going with yes." he laughed as she groaned and he reached out his arms to hers and held their hands together. "I fought through hell itself just to be with you." he said softly. "I would make that fight a thousand times over if it meant I would be with you." he said as he pulled her into a hug. "I have loved you since I jumped onto that transport a lifetime ago. I will love you until the day... well I wanna say 'until the day I die', but I've kinda already done that once." he laughed as he held her close.
"I knew you would make that joke." she laughed as she held him tightly "I love you, missing bits and all. I just didn't want to find out you didn't love me anymore."
"I could never stop loving you." he reassured her as they sat together holding each other tightly.
