This is the final part for Motonui!
Maui: "CHEE-HOO! gamePsycho11 doesn't Kingdom Hearts, Square Enix, or Disney. If he did, Disney would stop with the live-action remakes!"
Chapter 22: Motonui Part III: Te Ka & Te Fiti
It was now nighttime and the group was back out at sea.
Maui was lying on his back, depressed,
"Hey it's okay, it's okay
We're dead soon, we're dead soon~"
"You know what; you've been singing that ever since we left that island!" Axel exclaimed. "Stop being so negative!"
"Can you at least try?" Aqua asked.
"...Giant hawk," Maui said...only to turn into several different animals except for a hawk.
"You're just out of practice," Mickey said. "It happens."
Moana nudged Maui with her oar, "Alright, break time's over. Get up."
"Why?" he questioned. "You gonna give me speech, say I can beat Te Ka, cause I'm "Maui"?"
"We're here too, you know," Donald reminded him.
"Yeah, we'll be fighting Te Ka along with ya," Goofy said.
Unfortunately, that didn't lift Maui's mood, he just sat up and turned his back to them.
Kairi noticed the tattoo at the top of his back; the one Tamatoa had revealed,
"How do you get your tattoos?"
"They show up...when I earn them," he replied.
"How'd you earn that one?" Moana pointed at the one Kairi was focused on. "What's that for?"
"...I got it from the island of Nunya," Maui answered. "As in 'Nunya Business'."
"Hey, don't be like that," Kairi remarked. "She just asked."
"Well, she shouldn't have, and don't you ask either."
"What about me?" Sora chimed.
"Any of you," Maui shot back.
Moana kept poking him with her oar, "I'm just gonna keep asking."
Maui grabbed the oar and threw her off the boat, but the ocean gently put her back on it.
"You don't wanna talk, don't talk," she sighed. "You wanna throw me off the boat, throw me off. You wanna tell me I have no idea what I'm doing, I know I don't. I have no idea why the ocean chose me, but my island is dying, so I am here. I thought it would just be me and you, but we met them, and we want to help. But we can't if you don't let us."
At first, no one said anything...until...
"I wasn't always a demigod," Maui started. "I was born to human parents."
Moana, Sora, and the rest of the gang looked at him...or rather, at the tattoo depicting Maui and his parents.
"They threw me into the sea, like I was...nothing."
"...Oh, Maui..." Aqua whispered.
"Then the gods found me, gave me the hook and made me 'Maui'," he continued. "And, back to the humans I went. I gave them islands, fire, coconuts, anything they could ever want."
"You took the Heart for them," Moana realized. "Everything you did was for them, so they'd love you..."
'Because his parents didn't...' Kairi thought.
"It was...never enough," Maui muttered.
"Must've been tough, trying everything you could, and you still felt like you weren't appreciated," Riku added.
Moana sat next to him, "Maybe the gods found you for a reason. Maybe the ocean brought you to them, because it saw someone worthy of being saved. But the gods aren't the ones who make you Maui, you are."
Mini Maui created a press against his left pec, like he was giving his counterpart a hug. Maui patted his pec, "Okay, okay...I love you too, buddy."
It was now daytime, and everyone was instructing Maui on transforming. First, a bug.
(Cue "Logo Te Pate" from Moana)
Maui cringed and attempted to transform into a bug...and it worked!
That was until Moana's pet chicken, Heihei, tried to eat him. Maui turned back into himself, now having Heihei's beak on his finger. Then he turned into an iguana, jumped into the water and turned into a shark.
He then leapt out of the water, turning into a giant hawk, with golden brown feathers and his hair was still on his head. He flew over to a field of rocks that were nearby, maneuvering around them.
Then, using his hook, he sliced through them before turning back into a hawk again!
"Yeah!" Moana cheered, and that's when Maui smirked, playfully, before turning into a whale!
"Uh-oh..." Kairi squeaked...right before they all got splashed!
Still, they laughed in enjoyment.
Maui turned back into himself as landed back on the boat, where he and Moana high-fived. Then, he and Mini-Maui did a little "secret handshake".
"Next stop, Te Fiti!" Kairi exclaimed.
"...You know what?" Maui asked. "Let's have Moana take us."
Moana gasped silently, for this was the first time Maui ever called her by her name and not "Kid". Using the skills Sora, Kairi and Riku taught her, and some new stuff from Maui; Moana led the voyage to Te Fiti.
It was now dark, and there seemed to be some smoke in the air, blocking out the stars. The off-worlders were a little tense about the environment, but Maui looked at Moana, smiling.
"What?"
"I've figured it out," he answered. "The ocean used to love when I pulled up mountains, because your ancestors would sail the seas and find them. All those new lands, new islands, and the water connected them all. And if I were the ocean, I think I'd be looking for a curly-haired non-princess to start that again."
Moana was happily stunned, "That is, literally the nicest thing you've ever said to me. Probably should've saved it for Te Fiti."
"I did."
The group looked up to see a ring of hardened lava on the horizon.
"Is that what I think it is?" asked Sora.
"Welcome to Te Fiti," Moana began, "The final stretch of your journey."
Moana handed Maui the Heart, then he turned into a hawk and flew towards the lava. Sora summoned his Keyboard and flew after him, Mickey riding along with him. More smoke came from the lava, and it crackled with purple lightning. Then, some fireballs flew towards the two flyers, but they managed to avoid them.
Once they were right on top of the smoke, Te Ka appeared, roaring!
"Holy crap!" Axel cursed as Te Ka soon emerged. "He's huge!"
Te Ka knocked Maui out of the sky, causing him to drop his hook and the Heart!
"MAUI!" Sora called to him as he kept maneuvering around Te Ka's giant, molten covered hands. Maui recovered, grabbing the Heart and his hook as he fell, and turned back into a hawk, only to knocked down again and he fell into the ocean. Mickey jumped off the Keyboard and dove into the water, just as Maui recovered again. Mickey grabbed the Heart, then grabbed onto Maui, who transformed into a shark and began to swim away.
"LAVA BALL!" Goofy shouted as a huge ball of lava came their way, but Aqua used her Waterga magic to douse it out before it could hit. Te Ka leaned towards the heroes, causing his hand to accidently touch the water, making him roar in pain and his hand cooled down.
Moana and the off-worlders noticed this just as Maui and Mickey hopped back onto the boats, but Maui was a little winded.
"There!" Mickey pointed to an opening between the rocky barrier.
However, Te Ka noticed them.
"Look out, you guys!" Maui shouted as Te Ka threw a lava ball at them...but he jumped in the way, holding his hook up.
Until Sora flew in, deflecting it with a Reflega spell.
"Turn around!" Maui told them.
"No!" Moana argued.
"We're not turning back!" Riku added.
Te Ka brought his fist down toward them, but Maui blocked it with his hook, creating a giant purple shockwave that blew the boats away! As Te Ka recoiled in pain, a massive wave carried Moana, Maui and the off-worlders away. The shockwave also knocked Sora out of the sky, and he fell into the ocean.
Once the boats stopped moving, everyone recovered.
"Everyone okay?" Mickey asked.
Donald and Goofy's eyes were spinning from dizziness, everyone else was groaning and rubbing some aches.
"Wait, where's Sora?!" Terra questioned.
The ocean gently brought said teen back onto the boat, where he groaned in exasperation.
"Are you okay, Sora?" asked Kairi as she held him.
"Dizzy and soaked, but otherwise, fine," he slurred out.
Moana groaned as she woke up. She checked her supplies, seeing that Heihei was alright.
"You alright?" Aqua asked her.
"I think so," she replied.
Everyone then turned to Maui, who had his back to everyone.
"Maui, are you okay?" Yuffie asked.
Maui turned around, revealing that his hook was cracked and sparking with purple electricity.
He looked mad, "...I told you to turn back..."
"Maui, don't get mad at her, okay?" Kairi asked.
"Look, we can fix it," Terra told him.
"It was made by the gods," Maui argued. "You can't FIX it."
"Next time will be different," Moana assured him. "Te Ka was stuck on the rocks, it can't go into the water because it's made of lava."
"She's right, we can find a way around," Axel said as everyone got to fixing any damage to the boats.
But Maui shot them down, "I'm not going back."
"What?" Moana questioned. "We have to restore the Heart."
"My hook is cracked," he elaborated. "One more hit, and it's over."
"Maui, you have to restore the Heart!"
"Without my hook, I am nothing."
"That's not true-"
"WITHOUT MY HOOK, I AM NOTHING!"
"All right, enough!" Riku shouted as he stood in the way. "You know what's wrong with you?! You're some guy with an inferiority complex, desperate to please everyone because your parents abandoned you! Besides, we're in this because you stole the Heart in the first place!"
Even though Maui knew he was right, he was not about to admit it,
"No, we're here because the ocean told Moana she was special, and she believed it."
He dropped the Heart and turned to leave.
"Screw you, Maui!" Kairi snapped. "Try to shift the responsibility away from yourself, but you know the world falling into darkness is your fault!"
"Goodbye," Maui said bluntly, completely ignoring her.
"So that's it?" Sora questioned him. "You're just gonna run away?!"
"I'm not killing myself so Moana can prove she's something she's not!" Maui argued.
"You can run if you want, but we're staying!" Terra told him.
"Then you're all fools," Maui said.
Maui turned away and tried to transform, but his hook crackled with electricity from the damage. He tried again, turning into a hawk in a purple flash instead of a blue one, and flew off.
"MAUI!" Moana called out in desperation, but he ignored her.
"COWARD!" Yuffie shouted after him, but the demigod still flew away.
"Ah, who needs him, anyway?!" Sora dismissed.
But Moana felt like her spirit had been crushed,
"You guys take it."
"But, Moana-" Aqua tried to argue.
"I'm not who the ocean thinks I am!" Moana exclaimed, with tears in her eyes. She held out the Heart to them, "Please!"
With reluctance, Kairi took it, but then everyone saw a bright light in the water, coming towards them. It was a glowing manta ray, or spirit, or something!
"Whoa...!" Sora whispered. "Are you guys seeing this?!"
"Uh, yeah...but we don't believe it!" Aqua answered.
"Wait...a manta ray...?" Moana whispered. "So that means...!"
"You're a long ways past the reef," a voice spoke as a blue glow appeared behind the ground, causing them to turn around and see an old woman, smiling at them...or rather, at Moana.
"...Gramma?" Moana whispered.
"Guess I chose the right tattoo," Moana's grandmother, Gramma Tala, said jokingly as she looked to the manta tattoo on her back.
"GRAMMA!" Moana exclaimed as she ran up and hugged her.
"Aww," Kairi cooed, softly.
"I'm so sorry," Moana cried. "I tried Gramma, but...I couldn't do it."
"It's not your fault," Tala assured her. "I never should have put so much on your shoulders. If you are ready to go home, I will be with you. Your friends can finish what you started."
Moana looked at the off-worlders, who nodded, then picked up her oar and was about to put it in the water, but...she hesitated.
"Why are you hesitating?" Mickey asked.
"I don't know," she answered, not sure herself.
Tala's spirit stood up and walked over to her granddaughter, and she began to sing,
"I know a girl from an island
She stands apart from the crowd
She loves the sea and her people
She makes her whole family proud~
Sometimes, the world seems against you
The journey may leave a scar
But scars can heal and reveal just
Where you are~"
"The people you love will change you
The things you have learned will guide you
And nothing on Earth can silence
The quiet voice still inside you~
And when that voice starts to whisper,
"Moana, you've come so far"
"Moana, listen"
"Do you know who you are~?"
"...Who am I?" Moana asked before she started to sing, too.
"I am a girl who loves her island,
And a girl who loves the sea,
It calls me~"
I am the daughter of the village chief,
We are descended from voyagers,
Who found their way across the world
They call me~!"
At that moment, ghostly ships began to appear around the group, sailing past them.
"I've delivered us to where we are
I have journeyed farther
I am everything I've learned and more
Still it calls me~!"
One of the spirits nodded his head in respect as he sailed by.
"And the call isn't out there at all
It's inside me
It's like the tide
Always falling and rising~!"
More spirits sailed by them, then Moana hugged Tala and stood proudly.
"I will carry you here in my heart
You remind me
That come what may
I know the way
I am MOANA~!"
Kairi tossed her the Heart, which she caught easily, then Donald and Aqua used their magic to fix the rest of the damage to the boats. Kairi also finally sensed the thing she suspected about Moana since she met her; she had a heart of pure light, just like her, Rapunzel and the other Princesses.
"That, was, pretty amazing!" Axel gasped.
"Alright Moana, lead the way!" Sora cheered.
Moana smiled, checked the current and the stars, and unfurled the newly repaired sail, catching the wind. The off-worlders followed after her.
Eventually, they made it back to Te Fiti. It was daytime again, but the sky was covered in dark clouds, and black soot fell from it.
"Te Ka can't follow us into the water," Moana said. "If we can make it past the barrier islands, we make it to Te Fiti."
Te Ka appeared again, roaring! Sora leapt into action, followed by Kairi, Aqua and Mickey! Kairi changed to her Angel form, Sora and Aqua summoned their Key-Gliders, while Mickey rode along with Sora again.
While they were busy, Moana made her way to the island. Riku steered the boat around to also get Te Ka attention.
"Over here!" Aqua launched a Blizzaga spell at Te Ka's face, making him recoil in slight pain, but he recovered and tried to swat her out of the sky. Sora summoned his Sleeping Lion key, jumped off the Keyboard and sliced off Te Ka's hand, saving Aqua!
"Nice save!" Aqua called, but then she gasped as Te Ka quickly regrew his hand.
"Watch out!" Goofy cried as Te Ka threw a lava ball at them, again, but this time, Terra jumped up and deflected it with his Keyblade.
"Got it!" he exclaimed.
Moana made it through the opening in the rocks, and continued on to Te Fiti. Te Ka realized the off-worlders were distracting him, so he picked up a big rock and threw it at Moana! The rock didn't hit her, but it created a big wave that knocked her overboard!
Quickly swimming back up to her boat, Moana saw Te Ka reaching for her, then a hawk cry echoed around the area and Maui flew in! He sliced off Te Ka's left hand and flew over to Moana's boat.
"Maui!" Moana exclaimed.
"I don't believe it!" Axel shouted. "He came back!"
The flyers went over to them.
"I had feeling you'd be back," Mickey said.
Maui shrugged.
"Maui, I'm sorry about-" Kairi began.
"Don't be," Maui stopped her. "You were right."
"But you're hook," Sora pointed out. "One more hit-"
"Hey, Te Ka's gotta catch me first," he boasted. "I'm with you guys; go save the world, chosen one!"
"Maui, thank you," Moana smiled.
"You're welcome," Maui replied. "CHEE-HOO!"
He soon turned into a tiny beetle and flew up to Te Ka before transforming into a whale, making a massive belly flop and splashing the lava demon with water, causing him to shriek as if in pain while Moana made her way past him. Sora, Kairi and Aqua flew around, casting Blizzard spells at Te Ka.
Maui turned into an iguana and ran across his arms and shoulders,
"Hot, hot, hot-hot-hot!"
Mickey jumped over and sliced off Te Ka's right hand, making him scream in pain!
"Hey, Te Ka!" Maui stood on the left arm, and pointed at himself. "Shark head~!"
"Huh?" Te Ka muttered, right before Maui chopped his arm off, again, causing him to scream.
"Watch out!" Donald cried as Maui tried to fly away in his hawk form, but Te Ka managed to knock him down! He fell onto a small rock in the water, now in his human form. Sora and Kairi flew over launched some Water and Blizzaga spells at Te Ka, making him recoil in pain, but then he smacked the two teens into the water!
Mickey fell as well, but was saved by Aqua, who was still flying. Te Ka saw Moana was almost to Te Fiti, so he threw a fireball at her!
"MOANA!" Maui called out in worry.
The Ocean tried to block the fireball, but Moana still ended up getting knocked into the water, but luckily, the Ocean caught her and brought her to land.
"Get the Heart to the Spiral!" Maui shouted before he turned to Te Ka, who let out a roar as he attempted to throw another fireball at Moana...but not if he could do something about it. He looked down at his damaged hook, which crackled, then at Mini Maui, who held up his hook as if to say "Let's do this!"
Maui jumped toward Te Ka, roaring with determination as his hook glowed purple! Just as Te Ka was about to throw the fireball, Maui struck his chest, creating a big shockwave that knocked Moana off her feet, blew Aqua and Mickey out of the sky and into the water, and threw Maui onto another rock!
Maui solemnly looked at what was left of his hook, which was just the handle now, as Moana made it to the top of the island. But, to her shock, the Te Fiti island was gone! Sora and Kairi flew up to her, also shocked.
"Te Fiti's gone?" the former questioned in disbelief.
They turned to Te Ka as he screeched in pain, holding his chest before he moved it, revealing a spiral pattern. Moana looked at the Heart, seeing the same spiral, then she, Sora and Kairi realized; Te Ka WAS Te Fiti! On the off-worlders boat, the others realized the same thing.
"Well, that's a plot twist NO ONE saw coming," Axel commented.
Te Ka created another fireball, but Maui distracted her by shouting a Polynesian chant. Te Ka raised her right arm into the air, prepared to crush the demigod with the fireball, until Moana held the Heart in the air, making it glow brightly.
She walked down the mountain, to the sea,
"Let her come to me."
The ocean parted, creating a dry path for Te Ka to come through. Moana began walking down it, while Te Ka screeched and started crawling towards the girl with murderous intent.
Despite this, Moana kept walking toward, without a shed of fear, and began to sing,
"I have crossed the horizon to find you
I know your name~"
Everyone watched awe and worry at what they were seeing.
Moana walked onto a rock,
"They have stolen the Heart from inside you
But this does not define you~"
Te Ka made it to where Moana was and towered over her, glaring.
"This is not who you are~"
Te Ka's face went from angry to sad and calm. The glow of the lava died down as she leaned toward the girl.
"You know who you are~"
Te Ka brought her face to directly in from of Moana, who walked closer and placed her forehead against hers,
"Who you truly are..."
Te Ka closed her eyes...and that's when Moana put the Heart inside the spiral on her chest...and suddenly, it started pulsing as plants began to grow out of the molten rock. Soon, it crumbled away...revealing Te Fiti, who smiled at Moana in gratitude.
"Te Fiti...!" Moana whispered in awe while Te Fiti made her way back to her spot in the sea while the Ocean carried Moana, Sora and friends, and Maui to land. Te Fiti placed her left hand on the ash covered land, and instantly, lush greenery, flowers and trees grew all over the place. Moana and the others were all placed on the newly restored grass by the ocean. Even Heihei was spat out.
Axel chuckled, "The chicken lives."
"Sorry about your hook," Aqua said to Maui.
"Well, hook, no hook; I'm Maui," he replied, smiling.
Te Fiti held the heroes in her right hand and brought them up to her, smiling at them. They all bowed to her, though it took gesturing from Kairi to get Maui and Axel to do it. Te Fiti glanced at Maui, who stood and acted like he was just caught with his hand in the cookie jar.
"Te Fiti! I...I mean, uh- how ya been?"
She just glared at him like a scolding mother.
Maui cleared his throat and bowed his head,
"Look, what I did was wrong. I have no excuse...I'm sorry."
Te Fiti smiled before she opened her left hand...revealing Maui's hook. He gasped before he looked at Moana, whimpering and biting his lip.
"...It'd be rude to refuse a gift from a Goddess," Moana said.
"Ha!" Maui exclaimed before he picked up his hook...revealing the Keyhole underneath!
Mickey aimed his Keyblade at it, and a blue beam shot from the tip, going through the keyhole. There was the sound of something being locked and a brief flash of light before the keyhole disappeared.
"CHEE-HOO!" Maui cheered at his getting his hook back, but Moana lightly punched his side, making him calm down and bow. "Thank you, your kind gesture is deeply appreciated. Chee-Hoo!"
He turned into a bug and flew away. Te Fiti brought the heroes closer to her face, where Moana placed her forehead against hers, then the goddess placed them down on the beach. Then, everyone turned and saw that their boat had returned to normal, and even had flower petals on it to decorate it!
Te Fiti's size became humongous and she laid down on her side in the ocean, becoming the rest of the island. Later, everyone had gathered some fruit for Moana's return trip and loaded it up.
Heihei stumbled into the pile of fruit, where Maui wiggled his foot,
"Gonna miss you, drumstick."
"You could come with us, you know," Moana told him. "My people are going to need a master way-finder."
"They already have one," he replied, lifting up his tooth necklace to reveal a new tattoo forming above his left pectoral. It depicted Moana and the off-worlders, sailing their boats.
Moana hugged Maui tightly, and he hugged back. He had tears forming in his eyes, too. Despite everything...it was clear he'd miss her. He put her down, and Mini-Maui waved bye to her, and she waved back.
"See you out there, Maui," she said.
"See you out there, Moana," he replied. "CHEE-HOO!"
He turned into a hawk and flew into the air and the ocean did a little waterworks show in celebration before the demigod flew off.
Moana then turned to the off-worlders,
"What will you guys do?"
"We have to go our own way, as well," Riku answered.
"Thanks for everything guys," Moana hugged each of them, and only Axel was hesitant in returning it, but he did.
"By the way, are you ever gonna have your own tattoos?" Yuffie asked.
"As a matter of fact, yes," Moana replied. "A manta ray on my back, to honor my Gramma. Te Fiti's Heart on my left shoulder. And on my right shoulder, Maui's hook and a key, for you guys."
"Sounds good," Kairi answered. "Who knows? Maybe we'll cross the seas again to meet, someday."
"I'm looking forward to it," Moana replied.
