Chapter 3: Help me, help you

A/N: Hello everyone! I am so sorry for not updating this story in months! I was so focused on the main story that this was on the back burner. And since we just saw that tear jerker of an episode of Helluva Boss I felt like we all needed a little pick me up by seeing Jenny and Blitzo forming their special bond.

Let's get on with the story!

Disclaimer: I don't own Helluva Boss; I just own my characters.

Enjoy!

"Jennfier Marie, how many times have I told you to not sit on that bridge?!"

Jenny flinched at the tone of her grandma's voice. It seemed creepy Herbert had decided to tell her grandma about her being on the bridge and falling off it. He also blabbered about her running off with the devil but luckily her grandma didn't pay attention to that part since he was always spewing crazy stuff. She could explain sitting on the bridge but she didn't think she could create a good enough lie about Blitzo.

Her grandma had her hands on her hips as she continued her scolding.

"You could have been seriously hurt! You can't swim to begin with so you could have drowned if the water level was high! Not only that who knows what's lurking in that nasty water."

Jenny sunk further into her seat the more her grandma scolded her. It was bad when a kid got in trouble with their parents but when you got in trouble with your grandmother, then you were a dead man walking. You never piss off a grandma.

"Sorry grandma" she said weakly.

Her grandma's stern look went away and she sighed.

"Well, you're not hurt so I'm grateful for that. Just don't do that again. I almost had a heart attack when Herbert told me about that. Although he was more concerned that he saw a devil running around town"

"I wouldn't believe anything that creepy prevent says" Jenny scoffed.

"Jennifer!"

"What it's true! He's always at the park checking the young moms and their kids. I'll bet you anything he has a basement full of pictures of them"

Her grandma swatted the back of her head.

"You watch your mouth, young lady. Yes, he's a bit odd but his mind is starting to go. He's just an old man who wants to enjoy watching the birds at the park"

"Sure he does" Jenny said flatly.

"Anyway, why were you at the bridge in the park? You hardly ever go there" her grandma asked.

Jenny made a face and bit her lip.

"I was just thinking about how school went. And my teachers were-"

"Oh speaking of school, I saw Mrs. Thompson when she stopped by the diner. Her son is in the same History class as you. Apparently there's a big project you guys have to work on together?" Her grandma interrupted.

Jenny mentally swore in her head. Fucking Mrs. Thompson! She was such a Chatty Kathy! She just had to brag to everyone about what was going on in town. It's no wonder why her husband took on long 'business trips'. So much for keeping this school project a secret.

"Well, that's true about the project but I'm not working with her son. We're supposed to partner up with classmates" Jenny explained.

"Oh that's wonderful! I'm sure everyone was begging to partner up with you since you're so smart. Who is helping you with this project?"

Jenny sweated a little. She couldn't tell her grandma the truth that no one wanted to partner up with her. She didn't know what compelled her to do it, but she just blurted out a name without realizing it.

"Brandon"

She kicked herself. Brandon? Where did that come from?!

Her grandma looked puzzled.

"I don't seem to recall you having any classmates named Brandon" she said.

"That's uh…that's because he's new! He just transferred to our school a few days ago!" Jenny quickly said.

"Since he doesn't know anyone yet, I tried to be nice and offered to partner with him on our history project"

"Oh that's so sweet of you. You're always thinking of others" her grandma cooed.

She looked at the clock in the kitchen and jumped.

"Oh dear, I'm going to be late for work! You can tell me all about your new friend when I get off of work, ok? Don't study too hard and stay out of trouble"

"Suuuure" Jenny said with a fake smile.

She waved her grandma goodbye with the fake smile still on her face. When she was by herself, her smile dropped and she banged her head on the kitchen table.

"Fuuuuuck!" she whined.

She really screwed up now. Her grandma wasn't going to forget about this and would want to know who became friends with her granddaughter. She had to figure something fast before she found out the truth!

"I need to find a Brandon"

/

Blitzo poked a pair of binoculars out of a bush and looked around the park for his target. His first day on the job didn't go off to a great start but new jobs weren't always going to be great. He was determined to kill this target and he wasn't going to go back home until he did. Mostly because he wouldn't get paid until he killed his target.

He found the old guy named Herbert alright. The old fart was sitting on a park bench just enjoying the scenery as all the parents watched their kids play on the playground. Every now and then the old man would spot something and take a picture of it.

Blitzo smiled darkly and pulled out his gun.

"Don't move, you old bastard" he said to himself.

The barrel of the gun poked out of the bushes and was aimed at Herbert. Slowly he put his finger on the trigger and kept his eyes on his target.

"What are you doing?"

Blitzo jumped and dropped the gun in response. Swearing, he poked his head out of the bushes to see who startled him. Jenny raised an eyebrow when she saw the Imp. She thought she wouldn't see him again after yesterday and yet he was still here.

"How are you still here?"

"None of your business, bitch" Blitzo spat.

"How did you even know I was here?"

Jenny just poked his horns with an amused look.

"Last I checked we didn't have bushes that grew black and white horns out of them" she teased.

"Why are you even hiding in the bushes?"

"I'm working ok?!" Blitzo snapped.

"Now if you'll excuse me, I need to get back to my target"

He looked back at the park and saw that Herbert got up and started walking away.

"Damnit!"

He whipped around and glared at Jenny.

"Now my target got away because you distracted me! Thanks a lot!"

Jenny tilted her head in confusion.

"Why are you after Herbert the Pervert? You trying to get back from yesterday?"

"Like I said, he's my target. Someone paid me to take that old geezer out. I almost had him and you let him get away by distracting me" Blitzo said.

"Take him out? You mean like…kill him?" Jenny asked slowly.

Blitzo's eyes grew wide when he realized he said too much. Now he really needed to kill her so she wouldn't say anything to anyone!

Jenny took a step back in shock.

"Are you like a grim reaper or something?" she asked.

"Do you see me wearing a black robe and holding a scythe?" Blitzo asked flatly.

"I'm a hitman. I kill people Sinners ask me to kill"

"Sinners?" Jenny asked.

"Sinners are humans souls who ended up in Hell because they sinned when they were alive. Hence the term 'Sinners'. Keep up with the program" Blitzo explained.

He shouldn't have been telling her about the workings on Hell. But since he was going to kill her after this there was no point keeping quiet. She was getting a sneak peak of where she was going.

Jenny mulled over what she had just heard. It was a no brainer that it was scary that he was trying to kill someone. But at the same time since he was from Hell it shouldn't have been that surprising. And it's not like he was trying to kill Herbert because he was a serial killer. He was just doing his job. You couldn't judge someone just trying to make a living-even if it mean taking away someone else's life.

"I guess you're taking care of unfinished business for people" she tried to joke.

"You could say that" Blitzo said dully.

"I don't ask what happened in my client's past that they wanted to have someone dead. As long as I get paid I'm helping with the overpopulation crisis up here"

"Past" Jenny muttered to herself.

A lightbulb went off in Jenny's head. Sinners were dead souls who were once alive…that meant most of these souls were from a long time ago...around the time period she had to do her History project on. She looked at Blitzo and had a crazy, gleeful look on her face. He was from Hell so that meant he could see these past souls!

Hello project buddy!

Blitzo didn't like the look Jenny was giving him and went to reach for his gun.

"You're starting to freak me out, kid"

Jenny got real close to him and looked eager.

"You said Sinners are people who died right? That means everyone who died in different time periods are down there, right? Particularly during the early 1900's era to WW1?"

"That's a very particular time frame but sure?" Blitzo said.

Jenny gripped his shoulders.

"Can you hear me out on a problem I'm dealing with?"

"My job is to kill someone, not give a history lesson" Blitzo spat.

"I could yell really loud and let those moms down at the park look up here and see you" Jenny pointed out.

"Make it fast" Blitzo said.

Jenny told him about her morning and how she made up a story to her grandma about having a partner for her history project

"And I'm too chicken shit to tell my grandma that truth cause if I do, she'll go postal on the school cause they're 'excluding me' for being an outcast. While I wouldn't mind seeing that shithole go up in flames I really don't want my grandma to go to jail and learn how to make toilet wine and a prison shank"

"Oh that's easy! You just need a toothbrush and-"

Jenny swatted him on the arm.

"Don't give me that info! I can't explain how I know all of that to my grandma!"

Blitzo rolled his eyes and crossed his arms.

"Why is it such a big deal that you have a partner for your school project? Don't you have friends who can help you with that?"

"If I had friends would I be asking an Imp from Hell to help me on a history project?" Jenny asked.

"Touche" Blitzo said.

"As sad - well I wouldn't call it sad, I'd say boring- as your little story is, I don't see this benefiting me in anyway. I only do stuff for others if I'm getting paid. And I know for a fact that a High Schooler like you wouldn't be able to afford me, Sugar Tits. The only thing I can help you with is telling you how toilet wine is made cause you're gonna have to tell your grandma the truth and watch her wrinkly old ass go to jail for arson"

"You won't help me?!" Jenny said.

Blitzo pretended to think it over then nodded.

"Yep, that's exactly what I'm doing. Now if you excuse me, I have an old man to kill and a wallet to fill"

He jumped back into the bush and went back to looking for Herbert. That old fart had old people legs so he couldn't have gotten far.

Jenny scowled and crossed her arms. She should have expected this. Now what was she going to do?

Another lightbulb went off in her head and she smiled evilly. If Blitzo was going to play dirty then so could she.

"Yeah, you have a point" she sighed.

"Who would want to help someone who knows where Herbert lives. And all they had to do to get that information was to help out with a silly history project"

Blitzo stilled. Jenny dramatically spun around and started to walk away.

"You have fun with trying to get Herbert. Now I'll just spend my day trying to find someone who-"

Blitzo grabbed her shoulder and stopped her.

"Not so fast, Bitch"

Jenny turned around and looked at the Imp over her shoulder. Blitzo crossed his arms and tapped his foot.

"So let me get this straight: if I help you with your history project, you're willing to tell me where my target lives? And let me kill him?"

"He's a creepy old pervert and he's going to die eventually" Jenny pointed out.

"You help me with my problem and I'll help you with yours. Help me, help you"

Blitzo thought it over. Obviously it was a bad idea to get a human involved with his line of work. But if he didn't kill Herbert soon his client would get tired of waiting and he wouldn't get paid for wasting his time being topside. But then again he was going to kill Jenny anyway so it shouldn't be a problem. It was just a stupid school project after all.

"Fine, I'll help. Shouldn't be that hard to find out stuff about the 1900's" he said.

Jenny pumped her fist.

"Yes!" she cheered.

"You really saved my ass again! I can handle most of it since I know a lot of stuff from that timeline. I just need you to write some stuff out so it looks like another person besides me is working on this project. You just need to pretend to help out so my grandma won't ask questions"

"You are going to get so far in life with lying like this. Politicians beware" Blitzo said sarcastically.

Jenny looked at the clock in the park and saw what the time was.

"My grandma should be getting off of work soon so I better go" she said.

"We'll meet up here tomorrow. We can swap notes and put a game plan together. Oh and for the papers, use the name Brandon when you're writing them"

"Do I look like a fucking Brandon to you?!" Blitzo snapped.

"It the first name that popped up in my head. And if I use your name my grandma would want to know what your 'real name' is cause she hates nicknames" Jenny explained.

Blitzo made a face.

"Out of all the names that you could have picked, you thought Brandon was the perfect choice?"

"I already told her that name so it's too late for me to come up with a new one" Jenny said flatly.

"I'll see you tomorrow, Brandon"

Blitzo flipped her off as she walked away laughing.

"Oh I'm for sure going to kill her now. Brandon? Really?" he grumbled.

What did he just get himself into? Oh yeah, he wanted to get paid. He just had to help her with her project and that would be the end of this. This new job was turning into a bigger headache than he thought it would be.

Oh well, he would just help Jenny and that would be the end of these little encounters.

Right?

A/N: Jenny and Blitzo's friendship is slowly forming! In general, do you think Blitz would be a good partner to have for a class project?

Hope this was a fun, silly chapter!

Please tell me what you think!

Take care!
