"Ow!"
"Oh sorry, there Sarah. Are you ok?"
His sister nodded as she rubbed the bump on her head that he caused by mistake due to his negligence on throwing the ball too hard, resulting in a headshot.
He sighed as he went into the dining room for a moment to grab the first aid kit before rushing back to the backyard and putting a band-aid on her head.
"There you go Sarah! It shouldn't hurt anymore!" He even gave her head a little kiss to make the pain go away.
"Stop it Reggie! I'm not a little kid anymore!" She exclaimed as she lightly punched him in the arm for it.
He chuckled at her embarrassment. She really didn't like being babied at all, but he couldn't help himself. It was the older brother's instinct in him.
After a minute or two of just standing in the grass, he looked up at the sky and noticed that the sun was already going down.
That meant their parents would be back from their job soon.
He sighed.
They didn't like it when they came home to a messy backyard, so he picked up the ball and put it in his room before getting back out there and cleaning up any remaining debris from the outside, especially the leaves. Sarah helped out as well by removing some of the leaves, carrying plastic for him to throw the trash in and also giving him some water.
Once that's done, he patted her in the head for a job well done, which earned him a light punch for still "babying" her despite the fact that she enjoyed it.
Going back inside the house, they watched some cartoons and just passed the time until they heard their car coming up. He and his sister went to the front door and waited until it was opened which they bowed afterwards.
"Welcome back Mother and Father!" The siblings greeted their parents in unison, not aware of their disapproving glances upon Sarah.
"Are you sure this is a good idea Sarah..?"
"Come on Reggie! You said you would help me with this! Don't tell me you are backing down from this and letting her get away with it aren't you?"
"No of course not, but isn't this a little…extreme for just a revenge prank?"
"Compared to her putting gum in my hair!? No way! This is just the perfect dose of medicine for that little rat."
He sighed but decided not to say anymore as he poured countless amounts of edible bugs into the locker of Sarah's bully as his sister was on lookout duty. It took a while to buy these many bugs without their parents finding out but if it made his sister happy…then he'll do it…
Even though they were far more…effective ways to get revenge.
After placing all the bugs, he took out a spray that emulated the scent of horse shit. This one his sister actually found out about it through her friends and asked to borrow it for this particular prank. He got his mask on before spraying it bit by bit into the corners of the locker, the foul stench quickly permeating. He could even see his sister slightly gagging because of how strong the smell was.
"Reggie! They are coming!"
He nodded as he closed the locker and quickly grabbed another spray and sprayed the area with scented lemon, masking the scent of the horse shit before the duo both ran and hid behind a column.
"That has got to be the worst spray I have ever smelled in my life."
His sister grinned maliciously. "Told you this stuff was nasty. And this is the perfect revenge! Let's see how she likes her shit to be messed up."
He rolled his eyes as footsteps became much louder, forcing him and his sister to keep quiet.
A trio of girls rounded the corner, talking about girl stuff that he had no interest in. Instead his focus was on the middle girl with the purple dye on her hair. That's his sister's bully Samantha.
She had a haughty look on her face as she walked with her friends. Her clothes were very expensive and fashionable. She looked like a total princess from a storybook.
However he knew the truth. Underneath that sweet princess mask was a bitch that took pleasure in tormenting his sister. And her friend were just as bad, if not worse than her.
Samantha stopped in front of her locker.
The trio talked about things that he didn't care for. All he cared was the moment Samantha opened the door.
He could hear his sister snickering at what was about to happen.
The brunette opened the door and a torrent of bugs spilled out of the locker and onto her. She shrieked in surprise as the other two girls started laughing and pointing at her.
Samantha started shouting and screaming at them, only making them laugh harder. She growled and started stomping her way towards the girls, chasing after them as the girls laughed and ran away.
After they were out of sight, he and his sister came out from hiding and laughed at the scene.
It was a beautiful sight.
Reginald had to admit, that was one of the funniest pranks that they pulled off.
As they left the school, he looked at Sarah who was smiling gleefully at the job well done.
"So was it worth it Sarah?" He had to ask, even though it was kinda obvious.
"Yup! The bitch got what she deserved after months of endless torture for me. She just wouldn't take no for an answer when she told me to buy this or that for her and decided to make my life miserable." She sighed with contempt. "Glad that I managed to get a bit of revenge against her."
"You could just tell the teachers you know? Or ask our mother and father to get evidence for their bullying. You know they would do it for you right?"
Sarah looked away, her face neutral at the solution that involved their parents. He never understood why Sarah never liked them. Sure they were always busy and perhaps a bit harsh towards them but they just wanna do what's best for their children. To become the people that they could be proud of.
Maybe it's because he is the older one that he can see it from that angle? He isn't sure but either way, he just hopes that Sarah would come around eventually.
"Hey Reggie?" She whispered softly as they made their way into the bus station.
"Yeah?"
"Can you…" she bit her lip, her expression mixed in worry and apprehension before taking a deep breath and looking straight into his eyes. "Can you always stay by my side? No matter what happens? Can you promise me that you will never leave me?"
He was confused by the question. Surely she should know by now that he will never leave her side right? After all, he is her younger sister, someone that he should take care of already by default.
But he decides to reassure her with a smile on. "Of course Sarah! You're my little sister! I won't ever leave you alone. We're family after all!"
"Yeah…family." She gave him a brief smile before turning away but for one moment he noticed her frown before her head was turned away.
He wondered why she looked so sad that day…
I woke up in my bed, dazed and confused. My head was pounding a bit as my alarm was blaring annoyingly at me.
I took a deep sigh as I recalled those…dreams I had. Those felt…real. Or rather as if I was watching it on a screen, similar to how my dreams would go but this time…it also felt slightly different.
It was as if there was a haze in my mind when I tried to recall those memories. Like they were kept in a lock and key.
I shake my head. It didn't matter right now. The only thing that mattered is that somehow…Reginald's memories have not been removed from my mind at all, only locked away.
I looked at the time, still too early to be preparing for school. So instead, I decided to get one of my empty notebooks and write down the dream I had.
It may not be much to me…but its a start and hopefully, I can get into the bottom of the issue that plagues Reginald and Sarah soon.
September 14, 2009
High school…the bane of my existence…is what any edgy teenager, adult and SI would say if they were forced to repeat it again.
For me personally? I could give less of a damn since well…it's school. Love it or hate it, school is part of our lives and there's not much we can do about it.
Sure it's annoying to go through it again, depending on your past experience in high school, it could actually become a nightmare that one might be forced to relive through again or be a blessing. For me, it's sort of a mixed bag for me. I never even had the chance to go highschool due to my issues with my home life and had to do a strange curriculum called ALS (Alternative Learning System) where they cram all the lessons from Grade 7-10 and jam it in one school year and after passing the exam, you would be given a highschool diploma.
This system's purpose is to help out people that have financial issues and needing to get a job ASAP, people that stopped going to school due to their personal issues like me or actual lazy bums that just wanna cheat the system and not go to school at all.
So my experience in high school is what you would call "abnormal" and I was content with it. Now I have to deal with potential gangs, capes in hiding and a brain tumor that would force me to tinker…what fun.
Bad enough that I didn't have a normal highschool back home and now I'm forced to attend highschool with a higher educational system than mine. This will be a struggle.
Luckily for me, I arrived at school with some time to spare before my class would start so I should be able to find my classroom…and get my schedule since I couldn't find it anywhere in the house.
Dang it Reginald! Where the hell did you dump your schedule!?
I let out a sigh as I went straight to the front desk or the guy who handles bills for the school and asked him. "Hello Sir, can you please give me my timetable for my classes? I lost them at home and can't find them anywhere."
The accountant looked at me tiredly before letting out a grumble. "Kids these days, always losing their important shit in school…" I don't think he meant that to be heard by me but I let it slide as he laid his hand out to me. "Need to see your ID kid."
I nodded to him as I gave him my school ID. He takes the ID and leaves to the back rooms for the moment, presumably to get my schedule for my classes.
As I waited for the guy to return, my eyes glanced around the hallway, watching the trickling of students coming in either casually or running down like they were late or something. This was an atmosphere I hadn't seen in a long time, usually satisfied with being holed up in my room to either waste my time away at the computer with video games or doing some online freelancing like customer support, etc.
It does bring a chill down my spine though as now I realize that I need to interact with people who are younger than me and are essentially brats since their brains haven't fully developed to be empathetic to the people around them. Hurray for teenagers I suppose.
One moment later, I felt the guy coming back as he handed me the schedule for my classes. "Here you go, this is your one and only free schedule paper I'll give you. Lose it again and you'll need to pay $2 dollars for each one."
I bowed to him and thanked him as I went ahead to read over to my schedule to see what subject I'd be starting with.
Social Studies aka History is my first subject for the day and I have to go to a different classroom for that subject. Why do American schools force you to switch classrooms for different subjects (barring labs and P.E) when you can just stay in one classroom and have the teachers go to you instead. It seems needlessly complicated to be honest.
I believe that the Philippines isn't the only country that has a school system like ours. I think Japan and Italy have the same system too though I can't remember the rest.
Anyway it doesn't matter, I got to class and sat…somewhere. Yeah I didn't know which seat is mine so I'm gonna wait to get yelled out to get out of someone's seat first before finding my own through trial and error. Unless there is no assigned seats of course in American schools too.
And sure enough, my soon-to-be-remembered classmate asked me to move back to my seat. Had to ask where my seat was since I don't remember where it was. He looked at me weirdly for a few moments before pointing to my chair in the corner over by the window…
What are the odds that I got the typical MC seat in every damn anime I've seen?! It baffles the mind truly.
I said my thanks to my classmate and took my seat, placing all my notebooks and my history books and waited for the teacher. My mind buzzes with countless ideas on how to send information from the computers to your brain using a chip that is attached straight into your brain.
I groaned as I decided to grab an empty notebook and sketch out Tinkertech ideas to keep my mind sane. I'm not good with keeping stuff to myself so putting it through a medium like drawing should help me out even though I ain't a good artist.
I can feel the stares from some of my classmates, probably curious in what I was drawing but I paid them no mind as my current sketch is that of a 3d printer that can transform data from computers and materialize it into existence.
Soon the teacher arrives and school begins for me…this will be a long day.
Yup, it was long and tedious. History class more so.
I couldn't find a subject, more boring than History and its not just because of the fact that I need to learn all of American History (which is partially the case), but because of the fact that History…isn't that useful in the real world.
The other subjects have far more applicable uses for us in our modern day lives but History just tells us stuff from the past that is biased in their view. I remember a quote that stated that only the winners could write history in their own viewpoint, making it essentially useless to learn, if not outright detrimental in certain cases since it could potentially lead to fights that could have been avoided otherwise.
Anyway, History bored me to death, so much so that I was just drawing my designs for my Tinkertech at that point while trying to make sure I didn't get caught at all. Never thought I would be thankful to a parasite for giving me the distraction I needed.
In any case, the rest of the morning classes were…difficult to say the least. The next being Physics.
It has been a while since I have learned Physics and the ALS program didn't include it in its curriculum so it was very difficult to catch up to everybody. Whatever the teacher taught, it flew right over my head which sucked.
Thankfully though, school has only just started about a week ago so I should be able to catch up to all the lessons that i have missed out on…only issue is that all the lessons that were taught here are way too advance for me since the education in the Philippines isn't as advanced as it was here so it might take me a while for me to learn everything.
If only I could build that Data Glasses which would allow me to learn everything at a rapid rate…and now my mind is filled with ideas on what to build again to help with school…great fucking fantastic. This is gonna be a thing now isn't it? Me having problems and my mind conjuring up with Tinkertech on what to build to solve that problem huh?
I slammed my head at the cafeteria table, just simply being over this crap. Luckily for me, the last subject before Lunch was English and Arts &Craft so it was a breeze for me to get through them even though some of the lessons elude me, it's still far more manageable than History or Physics.
Still though…not getting recess time in school was a bit of a shock to me. But I think that's because High School students in America don't have recess to promote growing up or something like that. Kinda irritating but it's whatever.
Lunch sucks though and it's not just because I didn't have my own cooked lunch prepared for me (dang i got really spoiled being cooked lunch by my grandparents every time i go to school.), but it's because of the fact that the lunches here…are terrible.
I remember watching a video recently on how terrible the quality of food in school cafeterias are, prompting some students to start a movement on TikTok and YouTube to petition for improvement in the food itself. Seeing the food online and the ones being served right now…yeah I can see why students had to do it. It was bad.
I can actually smell some of the bad odor from some of the items in the menu and it was kinda disgusting not gonna lie. I'm not sure if this is a school made for rich people and that the staff here just suck at cooking or maybe there is some sort of corruption going on here like in Winslow or whatever; point is, food sucks here and I don't think I can muster myself to buy food from here.
At the very least, they have vending machines here that sell junk food. I'll take my chances with those over the slop that they are feeding these people. Maybe I should also do a petition as well, see how that goes for me.
After buying some chips, I went over to one of the empty tables and sat down, putting down some of the books of Physics and History as I tried to go over the lessons that were taught today. I haven't fully grasped everything that the teacher taught me due to my very outdated knowledge, not to mention that it's been a few years since I last went to school so my mind is still trying to get used to going back to school but I should be able to manage this time around.
At least I hope so anyway.
"Shit no fucking empty tables around to put my crap down."
I looked up to see a half-Caucasian and half-Asian descent with pale blue eyes and straight black hair, carrying what seemed to be a ton of books about chemistry and physics about nuclear fusion. Weird topics to be learning about but I paid it no mind. The girl looked frantically around until she spotted me.
She came over with her books and just placed them all down on the table, covering up some of my books and my chips.
"Oi! What the heck?!" Naturally I was quite annoyed at how rude the girl was but she paid it no mind.
"Oh stop being a cry baby. There are no other tables around that I can use and yours is the only one that is mostly empty. Besides, just move your stuff over there and let me study this shit in peace."
Her casual dismissal of me and how rudely she just took over my table ticked me off quite a bit but I let out a sigh of resignation and just let it go. It ain't worth it getting angry over something so small after all. Other people would have taken offense to them and either insist they apologize to them or tell them to leave the table for being a rude bitch but I could care less at all.
I simply grabbed my food and my books, moved them to the other side of the table and continued reading them.
After about 5 minutes though I felt something weird and looked up from the book only to find the girl staring at me with a blank look on her face.
"Uhhh… What is it?"
"Why the fuck are you not reacting at all? I was an asshole to you earlier and just forced you to give up the table without any hesitation. Aren't you at least going to be pissed off at me or something?"
I just blinked a few times in confusion, "Why should I get angry over such a small thing? There's no point. Even if I get angry over it, the table would still have been taken. You wouldn't leave it regardless and if I make a big deal out of it, it would just make things worse."
She blinked in confusion as if she was confused by my reaction. I had a weird feeling that I wasn't supposed to react like that. Was she someone I interacted with in the past or do I have some sort of reputation in school that I'm not aware of. Hopefully it's the former and not the latter.
Luckily she clears my confusion with a cough. "It's… surprising I suppose. Most people would be very irritated with me by now and would have either moved away or kicked me out of the table."
"Perhaps. Most people would but I could care less. Just don't do that next time to me and it will be fine ok?"
My statement should have put her at ease but if anything, she became even more confused. Oh god this isn't good. Did I do something? Am I acting too weird to her? Too many questions, not enough answers. This isn't good.
"But you should have heard of the rumors about me by now! Or are you acting as if my presence doesn't bother you and you're secretly angry at me! Well spit it out!" She slammed her table and glared at me while my face just showed complete befuddlement.
What the fuck is up with this girl? Is there something I missed here that I should have known about? Maybe she has a reputation of sort s and she is expecting to be treated in a specific manner? Either way, I can feel the stares of other people as they are now engaged in this unnecessary drama that is being unfolded right now. So I gotta just nip this in the bud.
I gave her a deadpan state as I responded: "I'm irritated at how you treated me earlier but I didn't bother reacting since it's a waste of my time. I would rather simply use the time I have to just continue to study than acknowledge your rude behavior. But it would be nice if you just didn't do that again to me. I would very much appreciate that."
For a few moments, silence permeates between the two of us as we both state right at each other, willing to see who would back down first. I kinda want to back down since she looks kinda intimidating (doesn't help that this is the first time that I pissed off a woman and don't know how to deal with that.) but I don't want her to think I'm an easy target for her to bully so I stand my ground, despite the shakiness in my hands.
After a few more moments of silent staring, she relents as she returns back to her books, ending the confrontation there. The crowd that formed around us dispersed afterwards with some of them leaving their displeasure on how anti-climatic the fight ended up being.
But what did catch my attention is the insults being thrown at the girl. Some of them called her "Miss Know it all" and "Smug Asshole" and other insults, including calling her a "Gorilla" of all things. It seems I was correct that the girl did indeed have a reputation that is less than stellar to say the least.
I shake my head in disappointment. Teenagers gotta be assholes I guess. I was hoping those ridiculous bullying scenes that you would watch on T.V were exaggerated but it appears they got their example from real-life bullying by insensitive jackasses.
Damnit. I'm a 21 year old man and already ranting like a 60 year old cranky man. Give me a break already!
The subjects for the rest of the day weren't too bad. Science and Foreign Languages, which was Russian. Not sure why Reginald picked that language but not much I can do other than just deal with it.
Science was just as fun and interesting as i remember it to be even if its way too advance for me to learn at the moment, i had fun with the subject.
Russian though…yeah that was a tough one not gonna lie. I actually failed to keep up with that one and just simply nodded and tried to copy classmates' pronunciation of certain words. Needless to say, I failed on that subject, hard, harder than even History.
It also seemed to give me another idea on how to build a language database where It collects words from different languages and tries to translate them, similar to the Google translate I had back in my world…once I finished building his other ideas of course.
Exhausted by all of the classes, I rode the school bus home, went straight to my room and just plopped my dead body on the bed, losing consciousness after a few seconds.
This is my life now, a life I need to get used to.
