Chapter two:
Trix watched as panic registered across Emily's features. Richard dropped the pictures he had been holding and reached for Emily before she could flee. The ladies watched as Emily began to fight Richard's grasp—it was clear that this was never supposed to be mentioned and now Emily didn't know how to face Trix.
Emily managed to get out of Richard's hold and disappeared from the living room. Trix was left in the shocked silence while her son chased down his wife. How does one face such a secret being revealed? They could hear Richard trying to reason with Emily; to have her tell her side of the story to the ladies.
"Oh,yes! Let me tell your psychotic Mother about those pictures. She already hates me, Richard, and she has since the moment I walked back through her door." Trix was confused, what did Emily mean by "back through her door"? Had she ever met Emily before? No. She most definitely hadn't. The more Trix thought about it the more she wasn't quite sure.
"Emmy, please. I know you never wanted this to be known. You have nothing to be ashamed of, my love. Just talk to them. Explain what happened. They have never experienced what you've been through, but they will listen."
The ladies could hear Emily scoff in response. Trix could hear Emily's attitude in her response, "They've never had to starve. They've never been pawed at by the most vile men and then later have them knowingly smile at you when out at parties. They've never had to watch as their husband beat the living daylights out of someone…" what Emily was going to say wasn't heard in the living room.
"It doesn't matter what they think afterwards, Emily. You are my wife and I have never cared because I knew the truth. Give them the chance by telling them about all of this. If nothing else, it will do you good to finally say it to someone else." The could hear Richard and Emily walking back towards them. They hadn't said a word to each other while the two younger Gilmores were gone. Once Emily was visible, she began to pull away from Richard. Trix watched as he gently grabbed Emily's chin and lifted her face upwards. "It will be alright. Afterwards, I'm going to hunt down the bastard that sent that package. They won't get away with this, Emily." She didn't say anything in response, but instead turned towards the women sitting in her living room. It was time to face the consequences of her long held secret.
They watched as Emily took a deep breath and walked back into the room. She made her way towards the picture covered table. No one said anything as they watched Emily go through the many pictures that were scattered in front of her. She picked up two and looked at them with such sadness in her eyes. Emily handed the picture of her and Richard to Trix. Emily sat back down with Richard at her side, "He didn't know it at the time but he saved my life. I had been contemplating ending it all for a while at this point. I had been arrested so many times in the six years I had been an escort and I didn't see a way out." Emily turned towards Richard, "then this big man with a bow tie and the brightest blue eyes stepped in and rescued me. He took me to dinner and genuinely listened when I expressed my opinion about whatever we were discussing. He didn't want anything from me. Afterwards, he took me home. I could see the shock on his face when he dropped me off at my dorm at Smith." Emily turned towards Trix when she stopped talking. "He didn't realize who I was until much later. He showed up at my dorm a week later when he figured it out."
Trix was confused by this, "what do you mean when he figured out who you were?" Who else could she be other than Emily and how could her son know her if they just met at the hotel. What in the world is going on?
Emily handed Trix the second picture she had picked up.
