The moment the rings disappeared from around them they all jumped in different directions. Their first priority was to find cover.
To all of their surprise they weren't met by anyone. The hallway was completely empty.
Jack was lurking from behind the pillar he had chosen for a cover. It seemed they really had luck for their first time on their escape. But he didn't want to celebrate too early.
He hand signed Teal'c to go ahead. They would go to the hangar.
As they had expected there weren't many Jaffa in their way. A few times they had to abruptly chance direction or take cover but all in all their way was fairly clear.
At the hangars they just decided to run.
It was Teal'c at the front to choose their vessel. He went straight for the Tel'tak closest to them. The others followed. Jack was the rear this time and kept everyone in his view to make sure they all would reach the space ship with success.
Of course they didn't stay unnoticed. From behind him he could voices growing louder and louder, shouting orders. Only mere seconds later the first hits of Zat could be heard.
They sped up to finally reach the safety of the vessel.
Without being this time SG-1 entered the Tel'tak. Again surprisingly lucky for this day the vessel was actually empty. Daniel stood by the door immediately and only waited for Jack to enter. He had already pressed three of the four symbols on the panel to close the door. The moment Jack passed him he only needed to push the last button and the door shifted close. Just the right moment as the last thing the archaeologist saw where the storming soldiers.
Teal'c was already sitting in the cockpit's seat and handling the steering. Carter sat on co and was tipping with fire to open the hatch for them. They all were breathing heavily.
Jack felt nervousness rise again in him. They were so close. They really were.
Teal'c started the Tel'tak and made it fly in the hangar. Thank god the ship they had chosen seemed to be of good quality without any errors. Their escape came more and more into reach.
"Now!" Carter shouted, her fingers still flying over the controls.
Teal'c needn't to be told the direction he needed to head to find the hatch. While they could still hear and feel the blaster shots of the staff weapons Teal'c made the ship turn almost itself fully and accelerated.
Yes, their escape so much seemed in reach.
The hatch was almost open by now. But then it started to close yet again.
Jack could feel his nervousness rise into unexplored heights.
He could hear Carter gasp for air as she threw herself into the controls yet again. Someone was about to stop their escape by closing the hatch manually from the hangars.
They were almost out. Carter was tipping as she was about to die but still the hatch kept closing.
"Hold tight" Teal'c ordered them. Even his voice wasn't as relaxed as it normally used to be. This didn't help Jack's nervousness the least.
He and Daniel reached for the large control table behind the pilot's seats. Jack could see Carter using her legs to find hold. She still needed her hands in her desperate attempts to reopen the hatch.
Then the Tel'tak flipped to the side. The ship had his own gravity but still as they were within in the large mother ship it was only partially working. They felt the flip and everyone gripped hard on what ever they were already clinging to. Carter had by now stopped her tipping as it wouldn't matter anyway. Her hands came up almost too late to stop her body to crash into the wall of the ship.
They all hold their breaths. Even Teal'c.
This was going to be a close call.
General Hammond was closing the folder.
He leaned back into his large arm chair. He really needed to talk with Colonel O'Neill about the way to write an accurate report yet again. The colonel would never learn this.
Hammond turned his chair to look out of his office. Through the window he could see the briefing room with its large table. His place was at the front. Then there were normally the Colonel and the Major on either side of the table closest to him, Dr. Jackson and Teal'c opposite. He could hear the Major doing her speech, Jack looking lost next to her, but he himself didn't understand her talk either. He saw Dr. Jackson listening eagerly, folder crashing and rolling in his hands and actually understanding her while the Jaffa sat there only listening stoically and nodding occasionally.
But now the room was empty.
A short moment of loss overcame him. He always feared the day SG-1 might never come back.
But now he needed to speak with the Colonel. He stood up.
No, he thought with a smile. You couldn't write anything along the lines of
"The spontaneous Plan F that had finally worked after Plans A to E had miserably failed."
