Fairy Tail Chapter 4

It had been a week since Natsu had left the guild to find Laxus, and it was quickly becoming a pain to track down the second-generation dragon slayer. It was like he couldn't stay still. His scent would only linger in a town or place for a few days, sometimes a week, and then zip off in a random direction. If Natsu didn't know any better, he would swear Laxus was on vacation and was sightseeing.

So far he had tracked down the scent to the port town where he had first met Lucy, which had brought a tear to his eye. Then the trail led him to the resort where they had met Erza's former friends. Then to the waterfall where Lucy had summoned the Spirit King. Then all the way to the top of Mount Hakobe. Then it got on a train.

His nightmare.

But Natsu would not stop; he could not stop. The Guild depended on this. The train rode east; at every stop, he would check the scent; every hour, he would also check the scent to see if Laxus got off somewhere in between. Mages, after all, did not need to wait for a train to stop in order to get off.

Somehow, the scent led him to the far east side of the kingdom. Where the border was, there was also a jungle, and wouldn't you know it, the scent led into the jungle. Cause, of course, Laxus would go into the jungle. Why not? He was on some vacation or some shit after all.

Travel by train had made Natsu very, very grouchy. He was ready to find Laxus and get back to the guild as soon as possible, but even when he didn't know it, Laxus was making Natsu's life hell unintentionally.

This was also the border of Bosco.

Now, why the hell was Laxus heading to Bosco? 'That bastard making me do all this work.'

Not wanting to trek through the forest, Natsu decided to fly over it for as long as he could. Flight by fire was not a skill he used often; he had only used it in his fight with Jellal at the tower of Heaven and then just a few more times after that; it was very taxing on his magic reserves.

It had been about 5 minutes of flying, and the scent had never been stronger since he started looking for Laxus.

He was close!

Natsu could smell it.

After another 10 minutes of flying, he spotted a camp and landed near it. As he landed Laxus poked his head out of the tent looking as if he just woke up.

Still catching himself and waking up, he shook his head a few times to get his bearings and then looked at Natsu.

Then went back into the tent.

"Get back out here, you bastard!" Yell Natsu. "I'm real!"

"Ugh, Natsu, what are you doing here?" Laxus said as he got out of the tent. "If I remember correctly, it should be the S class trials, and I know the Old man was going to pick you to compete."

Laxus is a very tall and muscular young man with orange eyes his blond hair is slicked back, its numerous spiky strands pointing backwards, though some falls down in a small tuft on his forehead. He has a distinct lightning bolt-shaped scar on his right eye, and much like his father and grandfather, his eyes have dark circles, with each of them possessing a single, prominent eyelash jutting outwards.

He was dressed in simple travel clothes, consisting of a large, hooded light cloak, a dark shirt under a long light jacket closed by a simple belt, loose dark pants ending below his knees, and boots reminiscent of his old greaves.

Hearing Laxus talking about the master brought back memories, however, now was not the time to reminisce.

"Laxus, I'm not sure how to tell you this.." Natsu began.

Laxus, seeing Natsu hesitate, knew something was wrong. Natsu was never one to hesitate. While Laxus in his old rage might seems like he didn't pay attention to his fellow guild mates, he was paying very close attention. After all, no matter what, they were members of Fairy Tail.

"..but the Master and everyone involved in the S class trials have disappeared, and we need you to come back to the guild to sign some papers so the council or your father doesn't and take it or shut it down." Natsu spewed out without taking a breath.

"Huh? What do you mean disappeared?" Laxus asked, then settled his mind as he comprehended that his grandfather might be gone. "Slow down and explain Natsu."

So Natsu did, trying not to cry or break as he told Laxus what Doranbolt and Lahar told them, how a dark guild attacked the trials, how an S-class dark mage claiming to be Zeref summoned a Dragon to wipe out the entire island. He then explained how the council and the legal stuff was keeping them from saving the guild.

Laxus sat there in front of his tent listening to Natsu explain and wishing all of this was a bad dream. The old man was really gone, it just didn't seem possible. As the sadness went away, rage came into replace it. One would expect him to be bad at Natsu or even the old man or the ones who were with him, but no, Laxus was enraged at the council, those bastards had given him an emergency mission to check out some old ruin at the edge of Bosco. They knew what had happened and intentionally gave him a mission away so he would not be aware of this or help the guild.

The more he thought about it, the more he got angry and he started leaking magical power.

"Laxus?" Natsu asked as he noticed him getting angry and leaking power.

Hearing Natsu called out to him snapped him out of his daze as he processed the information. He then explained what he thought the council was trying to do by giving him this mission.

"Can't you just leave the mission and come back?" Natsu asked he now processed what Laxus said, he hated to suggest this since abandoning a mission was one of the worst thing a mage could do.

"Normally, yes, I could, but this was presented as a request for the greater good and security of the kingdom, if I abandon this without even trying or bring back some information, they could use this to bar me from being a mage in Fiore, or even declare me a dark mage," Laxus explained. "I wouldn't put it past those bastards. They've always had it out for us."

"So you need to complete this as fast as possible then." Natsu said. "Ill help you, what's the mission?"
