Alright everyone, welcome to the final chapter of this story. I hope you all enjoyed reading what I've written in not just this chapter, but also the entire story along with "Star Perfectionist." It was truly a pleasure working on that tale, and "Optipinkstic." Hope to see you around!
Chapter 10
The weekend came and went, and then on Monday and Tuesday, so did the last of Sabrina and her classmates' final exams. But it wasn't an uneventful few days. Chloe, who, like Miss Bustier, Mr. Damocles, and all the other students in her class except her ex-BFF, had forgotten about Vivica and her enrolment, decided to get revenge on Sabrina by having her father, Mayor Bourgeois, get the girl expelled and her father removed from his job the moment Monday arrived. However, Officer Roger, having taken Sabrina's conversation with him last week about him having the right to stand up for himself if the mayor got him unlawfully fired to heart, refused to allow himself or his daughter to be fired/expelled, and arrested the mayor, planning to keep him behind bars until his daughter's final exams were over.
Chloe, of course, found it utterly ridiculous that Roger got away with arresting her dad, since he was the mayor of the city, but when Sabrina told her that it wasn't against the law to arrest a mayor (which was true), she, for the first time in her life, felt utterly powerless. She'd never thought that one day Roger would realize he could have power over the mayor if he just let himself arrest him would come, and to see it finally arrive was more than the spoiled teen could handle. So, she spent the rest of final exams in tears, and her classmates spent the rest of final exams at peace (well, as at peace as you could be with exams to complete). But no one felt more at peace than Sabrina. Finally, her ex-BFF was no longer a problem, and as much as nobody else on Earth didn't know this, she had the Star Darlings to thank for helping her become the girl she was today.
Eventually the dismissal bell rang on Tuesday afternoon, signalling that the final day of school was over. All the students raced out the doors, excited to celebrate the arrival of summer break, except for Chloe, who simply walked, waiting for her dad to get out of jail so she could boss grownups around again.
As Sabrina got out of Collège Françoise Dupont, she saw her father waiting for her and rushed over to hug him. Hugging her in return, Officer Roger asked, "Ready to celebrate summer break?"
"More ready than ever, Daddy," replied his daughter.
They got into his car, and as she put on her seatbelt, Sabrina inquired, "So…how's Mayor Bourgeois doing?"
"He's very anxious to get out of prison," said Roger. "Today he promised he wouldn't try to placate Chloe again no matter how hard she pushes him."
Sabrina laughed. "Chloe's not going to be very happy when she finds out about that!"
Roger nodded. "I'm trying not to be nervous about what might happen when that happens."
"Don't be nervous," Sabrina advised him. "Like I said, you don't have to let people control everything you do."
Smiling, Roger started the car and began to drive his daughter home. As they went, Sabrina looked out the window next to her and grinned. A pinkish shooting star was flying across the sky, descending closer and closer to the horizon. That could only mean one thing…
"Daddy," she said, "could we stop by Place Des Vosges on the way home? I really want to ride on the merry-go-round there after spending all that time studying and completing exams!"
"As you wish," answered Roger. He then brought her to the place she'd mentioned, where he parked the car and let her come out of it. Once her feet touched the ground, Sabrina saw a familiar girl standing near the merry-go-round: Libby, disguised as a Wishling.
"Sabrina!" Libby excitedly exclaimed. She rushed forward and hugged her best friend, who gladly returned the hug. "Oh, I'm so happy to see you…"
"Me too," said Sabrina. Then, seeing the slightly confused expression on her father's face, she told him, "This is Libby, my new BFF. We met two weeks ago at school."
"Oh," said Roger. "Well, I hope you have fun together."
"I'm sure we will!" Sabrina assured him. She then followed Libby onto the merry-go-round, where they each sat on a plastic animal. Then the merry-go-round began to slowly spin around in circles, taking the two girls with it.
"So, how are things with your other friends?" Sabrina asked.
"Actually," Libby said, after glancing at Roger to make sure he wasn't listening to their conversation (which he wasn't), "they're pretty good. During the last few stardays, I found four times about boys and pink and parties, and the other Star Darlings didn't do anything to prove they didn't want to hear about them. Instead they just let me talk about them, which is what they said they were going to do. And this time they didn't try to convince me that I have a problem either. They just let me chatter away!"
"I'm glad to hear that," said Sabrina, smiling. "And um…how did the Shining Star Dance go?"
"We're actually hosting it tonight," replied Libby. "But um…speaking of the Shining Star Dance…the other Star Darlings and I were wondering if you wanted to take part in it with us."
"Me?" Sabrina asked, surprised. "But I'm not a Starling!"
"We can help you dress up like one if you want. And don't worry about the non-Star Darling students at campus recognizing you from what happened at our concert. Lady Stella erased their memories of your identity reveal, and Vivica's. So as long as you stay disguised as a Starling, you should be okay."
"Oh," said Sabrina. She smiled. "Well then, count me in!"
"Alright," said Libby. "Now we just have to find a way to get to Starland without your dad seeing us."
"I know just what to do," stated Sabrina. She then hopped off the merry-go-round, walked up to her father, and asked, "Daddy? Can I go to Libby's house to hang out and have a sleepover? It's not far from here."
"Sure," said Roger. "I'll see you tomorrow!"
"You too," his daughter replied. After that, Libby got off the merry-go-round as well, and Sabrina followed her out of Place Des Vosges and down the street. They then entered a deserted alley, where Libby took off her backpack, unzipped it, removed her folded-up shooting star from it, zipped it back up, and slung it on her back. After that, she unfolded the shooting star, took Sabrina's hand in hers, and attached them both to the object, which then took off into the sky and flew into outer space.
Sabrina screamed and laughed with pleasure as she and Libby zipped past the moon and into Starland's atmosphere, where they landed on the top floor of the Wishworld Surveillance Deck. There, to Sabrina's surprise and delight, Lady Stella and the other Star Darlings were waiting for them, smiles on all of their faces.
"Sabrina!" Gemma exclaimed, rushing over to hug her. All the other Star Darlings hugged her next, one by one, except for Scarlet and Cassie, who stood back, preferring to simply greet her and not hug her.
"Oh, we're so glad you're here," said Sage.
"Yeah," said Leona. "The Shining Star Dance just wouldn't be the same without you."
"Thanks for inviting me, everyone," smiled Sabrina. "Now…how exactly are you going to help me dress up as a Starling?"
"Well, to start, I picked out a starmendous dress for you to wear to the dance," Adora told her. She then took her hand, which had been hidden behind her back, into view, revealing what was in that hand: a very beautiful dress that was covered by sequins, which were emerald green on one side and gold on the other side.
"Oh, wow…!" Sabrina whispered in excitement.
"And this is so you will look as sparkly as we do," said Piper. She sprinkled some glitter onto the loyal Wishling, and within a few starsecs, she looked just as sparkly as Lady Stella and the Star Darlings did.
"Oh, I look…startacular!" Sabrina exclaimed, looking down at the outfit she was wearing and her hands. "But um…what should we do about my hair colour?"
"That can stay the same," said Gemma, fluffing her own orange locks. "Orange is a pretty popular hair colour on Starland."
"Oh. Okay."
Lady Stella's Star Zap beeped, and she looked at it. "The headmaster of Star Preparatory just holo-texted me," she said. "He and the boys from their school have just arrived at Starling Academy."
"OMS!" Libby squealed. "Now the Shining Star Dance can start! Oh, it's gonna be so super starry…!"
Sabrina noticed Scarlet sigh wearily, but the moment the fuchsia-haired Starling noticed the Wishling looking her way, she quickly changed her expression into a cheerful-looking smile. Okay, so maybe things weren't perfect. But the important thing was, Libby was happy, and the other Star Darlings had learned from their mistakes.
"Come on everyone!" Libby told her friends. "Let's go meet the boys! I can't wait to introduce you all to Ganymede!"
Adora gave Sabrina the dress before following the other Star Darlings and Lady Stella, led by Libby of course, down the Flash Vertical Mover of the Wishworld Surveillance Deck. Once they were gone, Sabrina put the dress she'd been given on over her clothes and then peered over the edge of the deck, watching as her Star Darling friends and their school's headmistress met up with all the boys, including a lavender-haired one that she recognized right away thanks to the photo of him that Libby had shown her. Ganymede. But mostly, she watched Libby, and how happy she was. As far as she was concerned, this was the best starday ever—and nothing could possibly spoil the fun.
Smiling, Sabrina went to the Flash Vertical Mover and used it to make her way to the Wishworld Surveillance Deck's ground level. If that's what was going through Libby's mind, then she was in total agreement. With the other Star Darlings having learned from their mistakes and such a beautiful occasion having arrived, this really was going to be a perfect day.
The end.
