Someone slipped alcohol in Kaito's drink, so he's rather tipsy. He calls Hagiwara to pick him up.
Once at home, the other members of the Police Academy Force fuss over him.
"M'fine! Just... a bit drunk?" Kaito says, dizzy and flushed.
They asked Hagi what happened, and he told them.
Heavily sighing in relief that it wasn't the worst case scenario, they do their best to put Kaito to bed and prepare for the hangover tomorrow morning.
"Ya know~... I love you guys," Kaito says without much thought as he's put to bed, Matsuda forcing him to lay down.
"We love you too, Kaito-kun," Hiro replies, patting his head as Furuya puts a blanket on him.
"No... really... you guys are the only reliable and trustworthy adults in my life! I'm not lonely anymore! So... thank you," Kaito then takes another pillow from Date, hugging it as he passes out, falling asleep.
The adults are so shocked by Kaito's sudden confession... before groaning and screaming, "Aaaahhhh!" while facepalming or smothering their voices into pillows.
They don't know how to feel about this. Obviously, they're very happy that Kaito feels comfortable and safe around them enough to call them reliable and trustworthy. However, being the only adults he feels this way towards when before he'd met them, he was lonely? That saddened them, and it stung.
All of them agreed to make sure Kaito felt loved tomorrow.
Coincidentally, it was Kaito's birthday.
When Kaito woke up, he groans, a hand on his forehead, "Ah...my head..."
"That would be the hangover," Hagiwara smiles.
A grumbling Kaito was handed some painkillers and a cup of water. He took the pills and downed the water with practiced ease.
In the kitchen, Kaito saw a grand breakfast. Chocolate chip pancakes, bacon, eggs, rice, bread, coffee, all of his favorites.
"Happy Birthday, Kaito-kun!" Hiro and Zero smile, wearing matching aprons.
Of course, Matsuda and Date brought the gifts and flowers to celebrate.
"Happy Birthday!" Matsuda smirks, ruffling Kaito's head as Date pats his shoulder.
Eyes tearing up in happiness, Kaito smiles, "Thank you!"
Honestly, he'd felt alone before but now... he's not alone anymore. He's surrounded by reliable and trustworthy adults, and he can finally just be a kid again, just be himself.
Again, from the bottom of his heart, "Thank you...!"
Matsuda and Hagiwara got him some modified card guns, which he'll test out later with Hiro and Zero's permission, of course.
Kaito hugged them, "Thanks, Jin-nii, Hagi-nii!"
They're stunned for a moment before hugging back, "Of course, little bro!"
Date didn't know what to get him as he's not as close to the kid as the others, so he got Kaito a bouquet. A mix of white and blue roses.
Kaito also hugs him, "Thanks, Date-san!"
Date smiles, hugging back a bit too strongly, "You're welcome, Kaito-kun."
As for Hiro and Zero... they actually had a cake in the fridge. Bringing it out, they all smile as Kaito's eyes sparkle in delight at the chocolate cake.
After the cake was set down on the table, Kaito kisses both Zero's and Hiro's cheeks, "Thanks, Hiro-san, Rei-san!"
"A-Ah... you're welcome," Hiro and Zero lightly blush as it seems Kaito has some underlying feelings towards them, different from the others...but they'll talk about it later. Maybe tomorrow. For now... it's time for cake, which Kaito has already happily dug into without any prompting from anyone.
'Well...at least he's happy,' they all huff in amusement as they each get themselves a slice before Kaito ends up eating the whole thing.
