Blood
I say blood bc if you read about Ruby's injuries last chapter(and her surgery), you can probably imagine there wa of blood.
Enjoy!
The less Lilac spoke about Purple's possibility of dying down there, the more Ruby and Saffron thought of sneaking out to steal food.
From where they were, it wasn't a long walk to a road, but still not a short one, and from the road, an even shorter walk to the closest grocery stores.
It'd be easy to steal food from those stores, rather than going into the actual town and stealing food from there.
These stores had few customers per day, and since they were so understaffed, a major reason why, it was a piece of cake the few times Ruby and Saffron did steal from the stores.
Only, they just stole boxes from outback that had small bags of chips and bottles of water, nothing major.
However, by the two month mark, and Ruby's escape, they didn't have enough food to last more than a few weeks if they rationed it.
Which meant they had to escape soon, and it didn't take long for them to notice Purple's condition getting worse.
The bruises were larger, and Sage could tell they were causing him to move less, the slits Midnight got on his wrists were poorly bandaged, seeing as they only had rolls of thin white bandages and nothing else.
And what was worse was despite the food, he was the most dehydrated and malnourished.
Two months had taken a toll, not just on Purple, but on all of them.
Purple, mostly, however.
Even though they knew Midnight didn't bother trying to kill them, they still had a feeling that if Purple got to a certain point in weakness, Midnight would just kill him completely. Just to put him out of his misery.
They couldn't bear to think of that.
So the four of them started doing everything they could to try and get him help.
Making sure he was getting enough food and water per day was thrown out the window as soon as they knew it wasn't helping. Purple was getting weaker by the hours, and sicker by the days.
Ruby finally decided, on a night they knew Midnight would come and do god knows what, one of them would ambush him and escape.
Ruby had concluded that the only choice that the kids had as a way of survival was for them to sneak out that day, steal medical supplies to keep Purple alive for a few more weeks, and then run away to find help.
Ruby was also the first to volunteer as the person to find Purple help.
None of them expected Midnight to have a knife that night.
He slashed at the door relentlessly, and it was hard to tell with his now seemingly permanent glazed eyes if he was drunk or not.
It was hard to tell with him.
Ruby prepared herself for her to duck under Midnight and escape out the door, hopefully snatching the key to the cellar from him and chasing him out before locking the others in there, and chasing Midnight upstairs before running out of the house and into the woods.
Midnight had a hardened stare as he looked for Purple, who was hiding behind Sage.
"Your tyranny ends now." Saffron growled.
Midnight smirked. "Well then, children. Bring it."
The knife gleamed in the moonlight. It scared them all.
"Sage, get Purple into another cellar." Lilac ordered.
Sage helped Purple up on unsteady feet, and tried getting him to the door, but they weren't fast enough.
Neither was Midnight, since before he could get Purple pinned to a wall, Ruby grabbed his knife and slashed at him.
She got a good hit in the shoulder before he could get a hit on Purple, who scrambled away as fast as his weakened body could let him.
Midnight brought the knife down on Purple, who put his uninjured wrist in the way and dodged, earning another slit in the process.
Ouch.
Ruby took her chance and grabbed the key from Midnight, catching his attention.
"YOU LITTLE SHITHEAD! GIVE IT BACK!" He screamed.
Ruby jumped outside and found a rock they had put as a landmark for the police if they ever reopened the case. She took it and threw it at the window at the end of the hallway before scrambling away.
She hid the key in her pocket before scrambling upstairs, Midnight hot on her tails.
He finally pinned her and after a few slashes at her, she finally got him in the face and ran away.
She rammed her arm into the door until the locks broke, and threw another rock at Midnight before falling down the stairs and half crawling, half running into the trees.
She didn't bother checking if he was alright. She didn't give a fuck.
Her vision began to get blurry by the second, and she felt her breathing labor.
She noticed the road ahead, and quickened her pace to as fast as she could possibly go.
Come on, Ruby. Get somewhere and have them call the hospital. Get Cornflower and King and everyone and then Purple will be okay.
Come on, Rubs. You can do this.
Her thoughts carried her to the store they most commonly stole from, and she dragged herself in, blood forming pools on the ground from her injuries.
"Oh my gosh! What the hell happened?!" The cashier quickly asked.
"Call…call a hospital…now…" Was all she could muster before she passed out.
She awoke in a hospital bed, bandages all over her body. Her head throbbed with pain, and with her blurry vision, she saw the key sitting on her nightstand.
"She's awake if you two adults want to talk to her." Someone said outside her room.
Adults?
What did she…
King and Cornflower stepped into the room.
"C-Cornflower?" She asked weakly.
"Yeah, it's me. Where's everyone else?"
"I…locked em in the cellar." She pointed to the key on the nightstand. "Midnight doesn't know I took it. I was trying to protect Purple."
"Good job, kid." King said to himself.
"Are the others alright?" Cornflower asked.
"Mostly. We were barely able to stop Midnight from raping Purple again, and Lilac got a few good slashes with his blade before he got me. I'm only here because he chased me out and I couldn't get back in to save the others."
"And the others? They're locked in that cellar, right?"
"Yeah. And until the cops find the shack…they're not getting out."
"How long is that gonna take?" Cornflower asked. "I was already planning on reopening the case as soon as I was informed that you were in the hospital, but it could take months for them to be found. Is there any food or water in there?"
"We've been sneaking out in disguises to get food and water, so any thefts from the southern outskirts of town came from me or Saffron. They have food down there, but not enough to last more than a few weeks."
"Then we've gotta get moving. I've got cops swarming the woods, and if you could try and give me an address, we might find them faster."
"There's a small problem. Purple's handwriting is barely readable. We have an address, but we can't read it." King noted.
"That's it's registered address. 87 Blockwoodow boulevard? It's registered address, but it's in the middle of the woods, far from any roads."
"So that means?"
"You find Blockwoodow boulevard, you find Purple and the others."
Totally did not procrastinate on this.
Anyways, keep running up those hills, dreamchasers! And stay tuned!
