After a few days of researching, Cornflower finally figures out Moon's location after going through thirteen years of criminal databases. Turns out, he is on probation, residing on the southern outskirts of town.
Second and the others reach the shack as King and Cornflower arrive at Moon's small cabin of a house. It's smaller than King's, the more he looks at it.
"Find as much evidence as you can, and I'll get as many answers as I can." King says to Red that morning when they get to the house.
"Got it."
King stares at the house, a pit of unnerving dread filling his stomach. Was Moon really as bad as he was thirteen years ago?
Was he the reason behind Midnight's behavior?
What if he had something to do with this entire thing?!
"Hey! Earth to King!" Cornflower snapped his fingers to get his attention.
"What?!"
"You good? You did that…spacing out thing you do."
"Yeah, I'm fine."
"You sure?"
"I'm fine. Let's just get this over with."
Cornflower pressed his hand to the door, and in an instant, it was ripped open.
"WHO THE HELL ARE YOU PARANORMAL BEINGS?!" The man screamed.
King flinched. The amount of resemblances he had to Purple's biological father made him think they were almost the same person.
But what shook him more was how weird he was acting.
"We're…not…paranormal beings. You are Midnight's father, and we are searching for your son, who's been missing for a couple of years now." Cornflower said.
He shot King a glance that confirmed the unnerving feeling they both were sharing by now.
This guy was really weird.
"Impossible. Midnight's with his mom…"
"No. He ran out on her a couple years ago and since then, five teenagers have gone missing because of him, including his son and my daughter."
Moon backed off a little bit. "How is this possible?"
"Your convictions have led Midnight's step-father to believe that he could end up like you, raping children and holding them captive for months on end."
"Midnight would never do such a thing!" Moon snapped.
It was taking all of King's willpower not to beat the man senseless.
"Well, since we're here, he obviously would." King grumbled.
Moon grabbed King and shook him viciously. "I'll tell you one thing. Midnight would never do such a thing to any innocent child. My son and I are not the same person. He would never touch anyone in such a way." He growled.
King flinched underneath the man's touch.
Don't. Get. Mad.
Whatever you do, don't let your temper get the better of you.
"Let him go, or I will have you in jail for aggravated assault." Cornflower warned.
Moon reluctantly let him go.
"Your son has kidnapped, raped, abused, and tortured five teenagers in two months, and for all we know, one of them is dead. And so far as we know, you're at fault for it. Now, you can give us information, or I will take you in by force.
"Detective Cornflower, we have some bad news." A voice on the radio.
"What is it?"
"Midnight has opened fire on the missing kids."
King's heart dropped further than it ever had before.
"Any injuries reported?" Cornflower asked, ushering King back to the car.
"We're unsure of any injuries. We've got police chasing after him, but we're not sure if anyone is hurt."
King's mind is racing.
Purple's injured.
Purple's dying.
Purple's dead.
Cornflower started the car. "What about the others at the old shack?"
"They've been informed of the situation, and they might have a piece of information that can help. Thank the kids for that."
King was a ball of anxiety the rest of the trip.
Please don't be dead, Purple. Please don't be dead.
As soon as King and Cornflower step inside the station, Green tackles King into a hug.
"Is Purple okay?! Is he alright?! Is he dead!?"
King pats his head. "I'm just as scared as you all are."
Yellow looks up from where he was in Blue's arms. "You get anything from Moon?"
"Besides a charge of aggravated assault, no. I'll probably drop it later, but who knows. What did you guys find?"
Second gave King a photo with a note on the back of it. It was a picture of him and Purple. Purple's favorite photo.
He turned it around and read the note Midnight had left behind.
"Your kids dead soon, King Orange."
King's heart dropped even further.
"You said people were after them, correct?"
"Yes. They should radio in soon. Cornflower, you should join them."
"Yes. King, you guys should go home. We'll take it from here, and call you when we find Purple and get him to a hospital.
"
"But-he's my kid, and I need to help rescue him!"
"We can't risk any more people getting hurt. I know you love Purple as much as I love my daughter, but I need you to go home and keep those kids safe."
"Alright."
"I promise, I will bring your son back. No matter what it takes."
King sighed. "Come on, kids, let's go home."
"You think…Midnight is going to hurt Purple?" Green asked on the drive home.
"I don't know, kid. After all he's done to him already, what are the chances he'll do more or less?"
"You're right. But, the gunshots…what if Purple got shot?!"
"Greeny, stop overthinking it. Midnight isn't that heartless." Red said.
"He might've spared Purple last time, but the entire group got out this time! Ruby's getting released from hospital tomorrow, and if she finds out her friends got shot dead-"
"KING, LOOK!" Yellow screamed, pointing at a cube in the middle of the road.
King immediately slammed on the brakes, and Yellow got out and grabbed the cube.
"What is that?" Blue asked.
"It's another memory cube." King said.
Yellow tapped the top of it, and a holographic image appeared above it.
"At least it isn't committing cannibalism this time." Blue muttered under his breath.
King looked back into the backseat and stared at the image.
His heart dropped when he saw Purple and the other kids.
"Purple!"
"It's a memory of when they escaped! Midnight must've left in disguise at some point in the night and left it there!" Yellow exclaimed.
The gunshot noises filled the car, and they saw that nobody was thankfully hit with a bullet, which eased King's worries a little.
"Thank Alan they weren't hurt."
Midnight suddenly grabbed Saffron, who was protecting Purple from the bullets, and whispered something to him, before dragging them all away.
And the holographic image disappeared.
"Green."
"Y-yes?"
King stared at him, a look of pure dread crossing his face. "Call the police. We've got evidence."
The reunion is soon I promise-
Anyways, keep running up those hills, dreamchasers! And stay tuned!
