The next morning is the morning King dreads.
Cornflower has vanished into thin air, off to rescue Purple, most likely.
With the map solved, the residences raided, and all the information they can really get, there isn't much that they can do but wait.
With the recently discovered memory cube they already had, they used that to find the location if they needed to step in.
Which, knowing Cornflower, they probably would have to, not that they cared.
King had a kid to rescue, and he wasn't going to pass up that chance to rescue him if he had that chance.
Purple hears the mayhem before he can see it.
The group wakes up to hear a familiar female voice ambushing Midnight, with glass being shattered more times than they can count.
"Ruby?"
"It's the cops! They came to rescue us!" Purple yells in excitement.
"It's about time." Sage grumbles, although they all sense his relief to be out of this hellhole.
Midnight crashes through the door of the tiny room, and all four of them jump up.
Ruby runs downstairs afterwards, and noticing Midnight has a gun, jumps on him and attempts to wrestle the weapon from his hands.
Midnight throws it from his hand accidentally, and Lilac jumps for it.
Midnight throws the other girl off of him and jumps for Purple.
"Don't go anywhere near him! I will shoot!" Lilac screams out of fear.
Midnight grabs the gun from her hands swiftly and opens fire, almost hitting Purple in the process.
Ruby screams for cops to get downstairs, and Midnight freezes. "You little shitheads are going to pay for this." He snarled.
He jumps for Purple, gun held tightly. "I should've killed you while I had the chance."
*Bang! Bang!*
Purple regains his senses and scrambles away from Midnight's limp body seconds later.
Lilac helps him up. "What the fuck just happened?" Sage whispers, staring at the body.
The kids are frozen in shock at what just transpired. "Is…is he dead?" Lilac asks quietly.
Purple, who can barely stand at this point, notices Midnight's chest slowly rising up and down. "He's still alive, but barely." He says.
"Purple's right." Cornflower enters the room. "And holy hell, Ruby wasn't lying. You guys look terrible."
"Three months worth of hell can do that to you." Saffron said, staring at Purple.
"Okay, well, let's get you guys out of here and to the hospital."
Purple's mind goes blank. He's hardly able to comprehend "hospital" in his brain before realizing he's malnourished, dehydrated, and probably weaker than he was a couple weeks back. He stares at the bandages on his wrists. The slits are another thing. Doubled with everything he's been through.
He notices Cornflower on the phone with someone before everyone goes black.
King is a wreck, to say the least.
He, Second, and his friends are either pacing the living room, or dying from anxiety.
It has gone from keeping King from running outside to his car, to keeping him from having a full-on panic attack.
And it wasn't going very well.
Green had spent about an hour trying to get a hold of Cornflower to see if Purple was alright.
It wasn't going very well. King sighed as he leaned against the wall, holding the frame of him and Gold in his hands.
He was not losing another kid.
Not now, not ever.
Hours later, towards nightfall, Green jumps for his phone hearing it ring.
"It's Cornflower!" He screams.
The house falls silent and listens to Green talk to Cornflower for a few minutes before he drops his phone after hanging up.
"What? What happened?!" King asks.
"Purple's in the hospital." Green manages.
Cornflower is pacing the floor, waiting for King and the others to show up. Purple's been in the ICU, and surgery, for a few hours now, and it's been driving him nuts.
As if being summoned, King and the others burst through the door in a panic. "Where is he?!" King asked in a panic.
"ICU. He's gone from almost dead to barely stable. He's been in surgery for about two hours now with all the slashes Midnight got on him."
Green asks him what seems like a million questions while Second and the others try to calm King down. I
t's gonna be a long wait, for all they know.
Another couple of hours goes by, and Green is awoken to the sound of a door opening.
"How is he?" He hears Cornflower ask.
That snaps him back into reality.
Purple.
"He's stable now, and we were able to patch up the injuries we were most worried about," The doctor begins.
King has awoken, and is staring at the doctor with intensity. "However, he's been slipping in and out of reality. He still thinks Midnight has a hold of him, and we're not sure why."
"Minor case of Stockholm Syndrome," Cornflower theorizes. "How is Midnight, by the way?"
"He's in a coma, and we're unsure if he'll make it through the night. He's suffered a lot of internal bleeding."
King is worried about Purple. From what he knows, Purple's been raped and tortured more times than he can count.
"Dear God. What about the other four?" Second asked.
"All five have been assessed for rape, and all we know is Purple's is the worst. The others are stable and are mostly unharmed. One had a bullet wound, but that's been patched up. I'm sure the others had some horrific things happen to them, but I know for a fact Purple's seen the worst of it."
King's thoughts have been racing for hours. Midnight isn't making it through the night? What about Purple? Is he going to get worse? Or better? Is he going to die? No, he can't die.
King needs him, and he needs King.
He's fighting to stay alive for him.
Please, Purple, don't die.
"Hang in there, kid. You can do this…" King says to himself, wiping away tears of anger.
If Midnight lives another day, so help him Alan.
King must've fallen asleep, because he wakes up to Green sobbing on the floor.
"What? What happened?!" He asks frantically.
Second looks at him. "Purple's dying."
King's world shatters, and he freezes. "Wh…What? No! He can't be! This has to be a dream! He…he can't be…"
"Sorry, but it's true. He's dying."
King's entire world has fallen into pieces at his feet.
He's dying.
He's dying.
He's dying.
"KING!"
"KING!" King snaps awake upon hearing his name.
"What-what happened?"
"You were having a nightmare or something, so we decided to wake you up. And good news!"
"What?"
"Purple's awake!" King freezes. Was it just a dream? It had to be.
"Where is he?" Second grabbed his hand and partially dragged him into a room.
He wasn't lying.
Purple was caught between Blue and Yellow bombarding him with questions, and Green's hugging him and refusing to let go.
"I can't get Green off. Trust me, I've tried." Red said.
Green notices King and instantly lets go.
"Purple…"
He somehow looks better off than King thought.
Yes, he's got IV's in his arm, and bandages on his wrists, and looks paler than when he last saw him two months ago, but better than he thought.
And alive.
"We're gonna go check on the others." Second grabs Green and drags the others out of the room.
Leaving King and Purple alone.
"Purple…your…." King is speechless with relief. His kid is alive, even after all the suffering he's been put through, he's alive.
Yes, he's been raped, and tortured, and abused for three months on end, but he's alive.
He pulled through all of the hell he was put through and survived.
"King…"
King jumps back into reality and hugs the kid tightly.
"You're alive…"
AND WE ARE ALIVE! HUZZAH!
Anyways, keep running up those hills, dreamchasers! And stay tuned!
